The CCU Mathematics cut-off mark is 150 in the UTME, which is JAMB’s minimum for all universities for 2026/2027. Coal City University, Enugu has not published a departmental cut-off for Mathematics, and it did not announce its own figure at the JAMB 2026 policy meeting. Score 150 or more, register the right subjects and have the O’level credits, and you are eligible.
2027/2028 update: CCU cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.
Mathematics is on JAMB’s course list for CCU as Mathematics, it appears in CCU’s 2026/2027 admission advert, and the university’s science faculty names it as one of its four current degrees. One thing is different from CCU’s other science courses: I could not find any NUC accreditation result for CCU Mathematics. I explain what that means further down, along with the subject combination, O’level and Direct Entry rules, screening, a worked example, a safe target score and the CAPS steps.

CCU Mathematics cut-off history
| Session | Figure | What it is | Status |
|---|---|---|---|

AbsTechConnect, a blog, gave 150 as CCU’s cut-off in May 2026 without citing a CCU document. It is the same as the national minimum.
Safe target score for Mathematics at CCU (my advice)
Mathematics is not usually an oversubscribed course, and at a private university the NUC quota is usually the main limit. This is my advice, not a CCU rule.
| Your UTME score | My read for CCU Mathematics |
|---|---|
| Below 150 | Not eligible this session |
| 150 to 164 | Eligible; a realistic chance with complete O’level |
| 165 to 189 | Comfortable |
| 190 and above | Strong; UNN and ESUT (160 each) are also open to you |
For a 2027 candidate I would aim for at least 165, with a strong Mathematics credit (B3 or better) and Physics or Chemistry.
UTME subject combination and O’level for Mathematics at CCU
The JAMB brochure entry for Mathematics carries no remark for CCU, so these general rules apply.
| Requirement | Mathematics at CCU |
|---|---|
| JAMB course name to register | Mathematics (Coal City University) |
| UTME subjects | Use of English, Mathematics and any two of Physics, Chemistry, and Economics or Geography |
| O’level | Five credits including English Language, Mathematics and Physics or Chemistry |
| Exams accepted | WAEC, NECO or NABTEB (CCU has not published its own list) |
| Sittings | Not stated by CCU |
| Direct Entry | Two A-level passes in Mathematics and another science subject; or NCE merit in Mathematics and one of Physics, Chemistry or Economics |
Choosing your two other UTME subjects
The brochure wording allows Physics, Chemistry, and either Economics or Geography. The most common and safest pair is Physics and Chemistry. It keeps Computer Science at CCU open as well, since that course needs Physics. If you are an arts-leaning student strong in Mathematics, Mathematics, Physics and Economics also fits the rule.
What the O’level rule leaves open
The brochure fixes English, Mathematics and Physics or Chemistry, which leaves two credits for you to choose. Further Mathematics, Biology, Economics or Geography all make sense. A good Further Mathematics grade is worth having; it will not replace the Mathematics credit, but it shows the department you can handle the work.
How CCU screening works for Mathematics
| Detail | What is known for 2026/2027 |
|---|---|
| Advert | CCU invited applications for undergraduate programmes (Myschool reprint, 18 May 2026); B.Sc. Mathematics is listed under Natural and Applied Sciences |
| Applicant groups | UTME, Direct Entry and transfer candidates (AbsTechConnect, 24 May 2026) |
| Portal | portal.ccu.edu.ng |
| Form fee | ₦2,000 according to AbsTechConnect; not confirmed by CCU |
| Test, date and format | Not published |
| Aggregate formula | Not published |
| Other routes | JUPEB, IJMB and pre-degree forms advertised for 2026/2027 |
Worked example
CCU has published no test or aggregate, so the sum that matters is how far above the minimum and my target you are.
Take Ebuka, who scored 171 with B2 in Mathematics, C4 in English, B3 in Physics, C5 in Chemistry and B3 in Further Mathematics in one sitting.
- Eligibility: 171 minus 150 = 21 above the minimum.
- Against my target: 171 minus 165 = 6 above it.
- O’level check: English, Mathematics and Physics at credit, plus two more credits. He qualifies.
- Advice: apply early, upload his O’level to CAPS and accept quickly when the offer appears.
Then Chiamaka, a Direct Entry candidate with an NCE merit in Mathematics/Physics. The JAMB rule accepts NCE merit in Mathematics and one of Physics, Chemistry or Economics, so she fits, provided she registers Direct Entry with JAMB and her college clears her on the JAMB portal.
Admission odds and advice
- Low competition, real quota: Mathematics rarely fills on score alone, but each programme’s NUC quota still caps the intake.
- Do not register Industrial Mathematics: it is not on CCU’s JAMB list. Register “Mathematics”.
- Make CCU first choice before it proposes candidates on CAPS.
- Know the deadline: JAMB set 30 November 2026 as the 2026/2027 deadline for private universities.
Who CCU Mathematics suits
I would recommend it to a candidate who scored between 150 and 160, who likes Mathematics, and who wants to stay in Enugu city. Below 160 the public options at UNN and ESUT are shut, while CCU’s floor is 150. If you scored 180 or more and fees are a concern, I would try UNN or ESUT first, mainly because their Mathematics programmes have longer track records. Whichever you pick, settle the accreditation question with CCU before you pay.
How to apply for Mathematics at CCU, step by step
- Profile code: send NIN, a space and your NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the line linked to your NIN.
- UTME registration: choose Coal City University and “Mathematics”, with English, Mathematics and your two other subjects.
- O’level on CAPS: upload your result at a JAMB-accredited centre as soon as it is out.
- CCU form: apply at portal.ccu.edu.ng, pay the fee the portal shows and print the slip.
- Screening: follow the portal and ccu.edu.ng for dates, since none have been published.
- Accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, open Check Admission Status and Access my CAPS, and accept within four weeks. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status.
- Acceptance and clearance: CCU has not published its acceptance or tuition fees anywhere I could reach; pay only what the portal invoice shows.
Before you pay
CCU Mathematics has no published NUC accreditation result yet. Before you pay acceptance and tuition, ask CCU’s admissions office in writing to confirm the programme’s current NUC status. Also, apply only through portal.ccu.edu.ng and never pay an individual for a place.
Studying Mathematics at CCU
Is CCU Mathematics accredited?
This is the part you should read carefully. Here is what I found:
- CCU runs the course: the Faculty of Natural and Applied Sciences page on ccu.edu.ng lists Mathematics among its current undergraduate degrees, it is in the 2026/2027 advert, and JAMB lists it for CCU. Admission into it through CAPS is legitimate.
- No accreditation result yet: the NUC’s “Accreditation Results 1990 to 2025” publication (September 2026) lists CCU programmes from Accounting to Sociology, with Biochemistry, Computer Science and Microbiology under Sciences, but no Mathematics line. I also found no NUC report page for CCU Mathematics.
The likely explanation is that Mathematics is newer than CCU’s other sciences. The NUC normally accredits a programme for the first time when its first students reach the later years, so a course approved to start can be running before it has an accreditation result. Many new programmes are in this position, and it is different from a “denied” result. I can’t confirm the start date from public sources, though, so treat accreditation as not confirmed and ask CCU directly.
What you study
CCU has not put its Mathematics curriculum online. A Nigerian B.Sc. Mathematics normally takes four years:
- 100 level: calculus, algebra, coordinate geometry, introductory statistics and computing, plus physics and general studies.
- 200 and 300 levels: real and complex analysis, linear and abstract algebra, differential equations, numerical analysis, mechanics, probability, and industrial training.
- 400 level: topology, functional analysis, optimisation, mathematical methods, electives and a project.
Careers
Mathematics graduates go into teaching, banking, insurance and actuarial work, data analysis, software and research. Combining a Mathematics degree with programming and statistics skills is, in my experience, the fastest way to make it pay in the Nigerian job market.

Mistakes that cost Mathematics applicants a CCU place
- No Physics or Chemistry credit at O’level: the brochure needs one of them.
- Registering Industrial Mathematics: not on CCU’s JAMB list.
- Leaving CCU as second choice: fix it with a JAMB change of institution.
- O’level not on CAPS.
- Not checking accreditation before paying fees. A written answer from CCU’s admissions office is enough.
