CCU Education and History Cut-Off Mark 2027/2028 & Admission Requirements

Education and History is on Coal City University’s JAMB list but not on its own B.Ed. list and has no NUC result. The 150 minimum, subjects, what to confirm and CCU alternatives.

The CCU Education and History cut-off mark would be 150, JAMB’s national minimum for universities for 2026/2027, because Coal City University, Enugu, has not published a higher figure for any course. Education and History is on CCU’s JAMB course list, but it is missing from CCU’s own list of B.Ed. programmes, and the NUC has no accreditation result for it at CCU. Confirm with CCU in writing that the course is admitting before you choose it in JAMB.

2027/2028 update: CCU cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.

Here is what each list shows. CCU’s JAMB course list includes Education and History, which is the exact name a candidate would register. CCU’s Faculty of Education page, which lists fifteen B.Ed. programmes across its two departments, has no History Education programme. The NUC’s Accreditation Results 1990 to 2025 list (September 2026) has nine Education rows for CCU and none of them is History. If you want a teaching degree at CCU with a Full NUC result, Education and Social Studies and Education and English Language are the closest options.

A course can stay on JAMB’s list after a university stops admitting into it, or before it starts. The faculty page is the university’s own description of what it teaches, and it is the strongest evidence here, so I would treat the course as unconfirmed until CCU says otherwise. Ask three questions: is the course admitting for 2027/2028, has NUC approved it, and is there a lecturer for the History side of the degree?

Safe target score for Education and History at CCU (my advice)

If CCU confirms the course is running, these bands are my judgement, not a CCU rule. The same bands apply to the alternatives below.

Your UTME scoreMy read for Education and History at CCU
Below 150Not eligible for any university course in Nigeria this session
150 to 169Eligible. A place is realistic if your O’level subjects match the course
170 to 199Comfortable for an education course at a private university of CCU’s size
200 and aboveStrong. Your O’level and documents become the only real questions

I would aim for 180 or more in the 2027 UTME. With a course whose status is uncertain, a stronger score matters more, because it keeps a public university and other CCU courses open if this one is not admitting.

UTME subject combination and O’level for Education and History

RequirementEducation and History
UTME subjectsUse of English, History, and any two of CRS/IRS, Literature in English, French, Yoruba, Geography or Physics, Economics, Government and Hausa
O’levelFive credits: English Language, History and three relevant Arts subjects
Direct EntryTwo NCE merit or A-level passes in History and one other relevant Arts subject
CCU-specific remark in the brochureNone

History is compulsory in the UTME under JAMB’s main line, and some secondary schools do not offer History, so check now that yours does. Government is a natural partner subject; History, Government and CRS, or History, Government and Literature, are common choices.

The brochure’s main O’level line does not name Mathematics, but several universities add it in their remarks, including Godfrey Okoye University in Enugu, which asks for a Mathematics credit. CCU’s own 2022/2023 guidance asked for English and Mathematics across its programmes, so get a Mathematics credit to be safe. A few universities in the remarks accept Government in place of History at O’level; CCU is not one of the institutions named.

If you hold, or are thinking about, an NCE: JAMB’s 2026 policy meeting exempted NCE programmes from the UTME, and colleges of education stopped taking degree students at 100 and 200 level from 2026/2027, so everyone there now starts with the NCE. An NCE with good grades in your teaching subjects is also a Direct Entry route into a B.Ed. at a university such as CCU. Direct Entry candidates still register with JAMB and are admitted through CAPS.

Alternatives to Education and History at CCU

All of these are on CCU’s JAMB course list. The second column shows where else CCU lists them, and the third gives the NUC result.

Course (JAMB name)On CCU’s B.Ed. or faculty listNUC result at CCUFit for you if
Education and Social StudiesYes (Education Foundation)Full, maturity 2028You wrote History or Government with other social science subjects

Outside CCU, check the JAMB brochure for universities that list Education and History in their institution remarks, and confirm each one’s NUC result the same way before you register.

How CCU screens applicants

CCU has not published its 2026/2027 screening details in any source I could reach. The Myschool reprint of the 2026/2027 advert (18 May 2026) invites applications into the university’s undergraduate programmes, but the part that can be read gives no dates, no fee and no word on a written test. The table separates what was published for an earlier session from what is still unknown.

Many private universities in Nigeria admit on UTME score plus O’level, sometimes with a short interview, instead of a scored Post-UTME test. I can’t confirm which method CCU used in 2026, so prepare for both: keep your UTME result slip, O’level certificates or statements of result, birth certificate, local government identification and passport photographs in one folder.

Worked example

With no published aggregate, compare your score with 150 and my target, check your O’level, and keep a backup ready.

Chidinma scored 177 in English, History, Government and CRS, with credits in English, History, Government, CRS and Mathematics in one sitting.

  1. Eligibility: 177 minus 150 = 27. She clears the minimum by 27 marks.
  2. Against my safe target: 177 minus 180 = minus 3. Just under it, still inside the eligible band.
  3. O’level check: English, History and three other subjects. That fits the brochure line.
  4. Advice: ask CCU in writing whether Education and History is admitting. If it is not, her Government and History subjects fit Education and Social Studies or Education and Political Science, after a change of course on JAMB.

Any 50:50 aggregate you see printed for CCU is a website’s guess; the university has not published one.

How to apply to CCU if Education and History is confirmed

  1. Get your JAMB profile code: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN.
  2. Register the UTME correctly: choose the course named Education and History under Coal City University and write the subjects in the table above.
  3. Put CCU on your form: make Coal City University your first choice. If you chose another school, do a JAMB change of institution at a CBT centre or JAMB office.
  4. Upload your O’level to CAPS: do this at a JAMB-accredited CBT centre as soon as your WAEC, NECO or NABTEB result is out. CCU cannot offer you admission on CAPS without it.
  5. Apply on the CCU portal: go to portal.ccu.edu.ng, choose the option for degree programmes, generate an invoice and pay. A 2026 blog put the form at ₦2,000, the same figure reported for 2022/2023. CCU’s own 2026/2027 notice was not available to me, so go by the amount on your invoice.
  6. Submit and print: enter your JAMB registration number, complete the form, submit it and print the application form and your UTME result slip.
  7. Accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, choose Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS. Accept the CCU offer and print your JAMB admission letter. JAMB allows four weeks to accept or reject an offer.
  8. Pay acceptance and clear: CCU’s acceptance and tuition fees were not published in any source I could open. Get the figures from the portal or the admissions office before you pay anything.

Before you pay

Get written confirmation from CCU’s admissions office that Education and History is admitting and NUC approved before you pay any acceptance or school fee. Every genuine CCU admission shows on JAMB CAPS.

JAMB set 30 November 2026 as the 2026/2027 admission deadline for private universities, a month after the 31 October 2026 date for public universities (News Agency of Nigeria, 11 May 2026). JAMB also said any admission made outside CAPS is illegal. If you sat the 2026 UTME and chose CCU, keep checking CAPS. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains what each status means.

What Education and History usually involves

CCU has published nothing on this course, so this is the general pattern for a Nigerian B.Ed. in the subject. A UTME entrant normally spends four years.

  • History content: Nigerian and African history, West Africa, the Atlantic world, colonialism and independence, and historical methods.
  • Education content: foundations of education, educational psychology, curriculum, teaching methods, and measurement and evaluation.
  • Methods of teaching History: lesson planning and the secondary school History curriculum.
  • Teaching practice and project: a school placement and a final-year research project.

Graduates teach History, Social Studies and Civic Education in secondary schools, and some move into archives, museums, cultural agencies and examination bodies. Teachers in Nigeria register with the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN), which includes passing its Professional Qualifying Examination, and that registration assumes a degree from an accredited programme. That is one more reason to confirm the NUC position first.

Mistakes that cost History Education applicants a CCU place

  • Choosing the course in JAMB without asking CCU first: it is not on the faculty’s own list.
  • No History in the UTME or O’level: JAMB’s main line requires it in both.
  • No Mathematics credit: not in the main rule, but CCU and Godfrey Okoye University have both asked for it.
  • Paying acceptance without written confirmation: ask for the NUC position first.
  • Missing the CAPS window: accept or reject within four weeks.

If you are aiming at the 2027 UTME, read when JAMB 2027 registration starts, and after the exam use our guide on checking your JAMB result and what to do with the score. History, Government and Literature papers reward wide reading, so start past questions early.
