CCU Early Childhood Education Cut-Off Mark 2027/2028 & Admission Requirements

Early Childhood Education is on JAMB’s course list for Coal City University but not on CCU’s own programme list or the NUC results. See the 150 minimum, JAMB’s subject rules, and the CCU and Enugu alternatives.

The CCU Early Childhood Education cut-off mark would be 150 in the UTME, the JAMB national minimum for universities in 2026/2027, because Coal City University, Enugu, has published no cut-off of its own for any department. But there is a bigger problem than the score. Early Childhood Education is on JAMB’s course list for CCU, yet it is not on CCU’s own list of education programmes, and the NUC has no accreditation result for it at CCU. I cannot confirm that CCU runs it.

2027/2028 update: CCU cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.

Do not register CCU and Early Childhood Education in the UTME until CCU’s admissions office confirms in writing that it is admitting into the course. If you want CCU, its accredited education degrees include Guidance and Counselling, Educational Management and Education and English Language. If you want Early Childhood Education itself, UNN lists a B.Ed. in it, and colleges of education offer it at NCE level. Both routes are explained below.

Does CCU offer Early Childhood Education?

I checked four sources, in the order a careful candidate should check them.

SourceWhat it shows
JAMB’s CCU course list (Myschool reprint)Lists both “Early Childhood Education” and “Early Childhood and Care Education” among 50 CCU courses
CCU Faculty of Education page (last updated 1 February 2024)Lists Business Education, Education and Biology, Education and Computer Science, Education and Economics, Education and English Language, Education and Political Science, Education and Social Studies, and Educational Management and Guidance and Counselling pairings. No early childhood programme.
NUC Accreditation Results 1990 to 2025Nine CCU education rows (Business Education, Education Biology, Education Computer Science, Education English, Education Economics, Education Political Science, Educational Management, Guidance and Counseling, Social Studies). No early childhood row.
CCU 2026/2027 admission advert (Myschool reprint)The reprinted text did not list education programmes

JAMB’s list shows what a university has registered with JAMB, sometimes years earlier. A university’s own faculty page and the NUC’s results show what it actually teaches and has had inspected. When they disagree, as they do here, I trust the university and the NUC. The double entry on JAMB’s list (two names for what looks like the same course) is a further hint that the listing is old or was never taken up.

It is possible that CCU has started the programme since February 2024 and not updated its page. If so, CCU can tell you in one email or visit. Ask for three things: confirmation that Early Childhood Education is admitting for your session, the exact JAMB course name you should register, and its NUC approval status.

If CCU confirms the course, I would treat 160 as a comfortable target. Early childhood degrees are not heavily competitive, and your O’level and early application would matter more than the last ten marks.

JAMB subject combination and O’level for Early Childhood Education

These are JAMB’s rules from the brochure entry for Early Childhood Education. The entry has no CCU remark. The separate “Early Childhood and Care Education” brochure page is an empty template on the reprint, so the rules below come from the main entry.

RequirementJAMB general rule
UTME subjectsUse of English and any three subjects
O’levelFive credits including English Language
Universities that also demand MathematicsEKSU, IAUE, UNIBEN and UNILAG name Mathematics in their remarks
Direct EntryTwo A-level passes in relevant subjects; several universities also accept NCE in Primary or Pre-Primary Education Studies with a teaching subject

“Any three subjects” sounds free, but think about where you might end up. If CCU says no and you switch to one of its other education degrees, those have stricter rules. Education and English Language, for example, needs Literature in English in the UTME. I would write English, Literature, Government and Christian Religious Studies (or Economics), which keeps both Early Childhood Education and the Arts education pairs open. And get a Mathematics credit at O’level even though the general rule does not demand it; many universities do.

Alternatives if you want CCU

These CCU education programmes appear on both CCU’s own list and the NUC’s results, so their status is not in doubt.

CCU programmeNUC status (maturity)Why it suits an early childhood candidate
Guidance and CounsellingFull (2030)Child development and learner welfare are central
Educational ManagementFull (2028)Leads to running schools, including nursery and primary schools
Education and English LanguageFull (2028)Literacy teaching is the core of early years work
Education and Social StudiesFull (2028)Broad subject that primary teachers often teach

Check each programme’s UTME rule before you switch. Guidance and Counselling and Educational Management at CCU are offered as pairings with a teaching subject, so the subject you pair with sets your UTME combination.

Alternatives if you want Early Childhood Education itself

  • UNN, Nsukka: the Department of Educational Foundations lists a B.Ed. in Early Childhood Education (department page last updated in 2018). UNN’s 2026/2027 screening minimum was 160 for candidates who chose it first. Confirm on UNN’s portal that the course is admitting.
  • Colleges of education (NCE): Early Childhood and Care Education is on JAMB’s course list for Enugu State College of Education (Technical), among others. For 2027/2028, NCE candidates do not sit the UTME but must register with JAMB, and they are admitted through CAPS. (Nairametrics reported the exemption as starting with the 2027 cycle; JAMB’s June 2026 NCE guide shows it already applied in 2026. Either way, no UTME for NCE in 2027.) An NCE with merit can later lead to Direct Entry into a degree.
  • Change of course or institution: if you already registered CCU and Early Childhood Education, you can correct it. See our guides to JAMB change of course and JAMB change of institution.

One rule to know about the NCE route: JAMB’s June 2026 guide for NCE registration says no college of education may admit into 100 or 200 level of a degree from 2026/2027, including affiliated degrees. Everyone enters a college of education through the NCE.

Worked example

Take Amarachi, who scored 158 in English, Literature, Government and CRS, with five credits including English and Mathematics. She wants early years teaching and likes CCU.

  1. Eligibility: 158 minus 150 = 8. She clears the minimum.
  2. Programme check: she emails CCU’s admissions office before paying. If CCU confirms Early Childhood Education, she proceeds.
  3. If CCU says no: her UTME subjects already fit Education and English Language (Literature plus Arts), so she can take a change of course within CCU.
  4. If she insists on the course: at 158 she is two marks short of UNN’s 160, so the realistic route this year is CCU’s alternatives or an NCE in Early Childhood and Care Education.

How to apply to CCU, step by step

  1. Confirm the course: get CCU’s written answer on Early Childhood Education before you register or pay anything.
  2. Profile code: text NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to it.
  3. UTME registration: choose Coal City University and the course name CCU confirms, with subjects that fit it.
  4. O’level on CAPS: upload your result at a JAMB-accredited centre once it is out.
  5. CCU application: apply at portal.ccu.edu.ng and keep your printout.
  6. Accept on CAPS: at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, open Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS, and accept within JAMB’s four-week window. Our JAMB CAPS guide has the screens.
  7. Acceptance fee: CCU has not published its acceptance or school fees in any source I could open. Pay only what the portal invoice shows, and only after CAPS shows the course you expected.

Warning

If anyone offers you “CCU Early Childhood Education admission” for a fee, walk away. CCU’s own pages do not list the course, every genuine admission appears on JAMB CAPS, and JAMB has said admissions outside CAPS are illegal.

What Early Childhood Education involves

Wherever you study it, a B.Ed. in Early Childhood Education in Nigeria usually takes four years and prepares you to teach and care for children from birth to about eight years old. Typical courses cover child development and psychology, play-based learning, early literacy and numeracy, health and nutrition of young children, children’s literature, special needs, classroom management and teaching practice in nursery and lower primary schools. Graduates teach in nursery and primary schools, run or supervise early years centres, and work with child welfare programmes. You register with the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) to teach.

Nigeria’s national policy puts at least one year of pre-primary education before primary school, which is why private nursery and primary schools look for trained early years teachers.

CCU Early Childhood Education: frequently asked questions

Sources and updates

The 150 minimum, the 30 November 2026 private-university deadline, the four-week acceptance window and the warning on admissions outside CAPS come from JAMB’s 2026 policy meeting as reported by the News Agency of Nigeria (11 May 2026); the 2025 figure is from Nairametrics (8 July 2025). The two course names come from Myschool’s reprint of JAMB’s CCU course list, and the subject rules from the JAMB brochure entry for Early Childhood Education, both checked on 30 October 2026. CCU’s programme list is from its Faculty of Education page on ccu.edu.ng (last updated February 2024). The CCU education accreditation rows are from the NUC’s Accreditation Results 1990 to 2025 publication (September 2026). UNN’s programme is from its Department of Educational Foundations page, and UNN’s 160 from its 13 July 2026 screening notice. The NCE rules come from JAMB’s 2026 policy meeting (TheNigeriaLawyer and Nairametrics, 11 May 2026) and JAMB’s June 2026 NCE registration guide. The form fee and applicant groups are from AbsTechConnect and are unofficial. Checked on 30 October 2026.
