MOUAU Chemistry Education Cut-Off Mark 2027/2028 and Admission Requirements

MOUAU’s minimum for Chemistry Education is 150 in the UTME, with MOUAU as first choice. See the subject combination, O’level and Direct Entry rules, how screening works, a safe target score and the CAPS steps.

The MOUAU Chemistry Education cut off mark is 150 in the UTME. That is the minimum Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike set for every course in its 2026/2027 screening notice, and MOUAU must be your first choice. The university has not published a separate cut-off for Chemistry Education, so 150 gets you into screening and a higher score is what gets you admitted.

2027/2028 update: MOUAU cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.

Below you will find the official numbers, my safe target score, the UTME subjects and O’level rules for Chemistry Education, a point about how the course name appears on JAMB’s list, how MOUAU screens applicants, a worked example and every step through CAPS.

Any year, Chemistry Education onlyNot publishedNo separate merit cut-off for this course in any MOUAU source I reachedNo official figure

MOUAU uses one floor of 150 for all its courses, and Chemistry Education has no departmental figure of its own. Blog pages that print a “MOUAU departmental cut-off” for Chemistry Education cite no MOUAU document, so read them as guesses. The real merit line is decided after screening and is never made public.

Safe target score for Chemistry Education at MOUAU (my advice)

Because MOUAU publishes no merit cut-offs, the bands below are my planning advice for science education courses at a federal university, not MOUAU figures.

Your UTME scoreMy read for MOUAU Chemistry Education
Below 150Not eligible to register for MOUAU screening
150 to 164Eligible; you will need a strong one-sitting O’level
165 to 179Fair to good chance
180 and aboveStrong for this course

For the 2027 UTME I would aim for at least 175. Chemistry Education draws fewer applicants than pure Chemistry or the health courses, which helps you. MOUAU still ranks every applicant and weights O’level sittings, so a clean single sitting with a good Chemistry grade can carry you past someone with a few more UTME marks.

UTME subject combination for Chemistry Education at MOUAU

Myschool’s reprint of the JAMB brochure page for Education and Chemistry shows the O’level and Direct Entry lines but leaves the UTME line blank. The combination most universities use for Chemistry Education is below. Treat it as the usual pattern and confirm it on JAMB’s e-brochure before you register.

UTME subjectChoice
Use of EnglishCompulsory
ChemistryCompulsory
Two of Biology, Physics and MathematicsPick two

Which course name to pick on the JAMB form

MOUAU is not named on Myschool’s Education and Chemistry page, and the separate Chemistry/Education page showed no university list at all when I checked. MOUAU’s College of Education lists the degree as B.Sc (Ed) Chemistry, and its part-time call listed it as Chemistry Education. When you register, look at the course names JAMB shows under MOUAU and pick the chemistry teaching option. If you are not sure, ask at the CBT centre before you submit, because a wrong course costs a change-of-course fee later.

O’level requirements

RequirementWhat the brochure and MOUAU say
Credits neededFive credits, at not more than two sittings
Subjects in the brochure lineMathematics, Chemistry, English Language and two of Physics, Biology and Agricultural Science
Exams acceptedWAEC, NECO, NABTEB
SittingsMOUAU weights the number of sittings, so one sitting is better
Awaiting resultMOUAU told candidates not to register for screening until results were out

The brochure line is clear on Chemistry and Mathematics, so a pass in either one ends your chances. Physics and Biology are the safer pair to complete the five, because they also match your UTME subjects.

Direct Entry

  • Brochure line: two A level or NCE passes including Chemistry and one other science subject.
  • NCE holders: an NCE with Chemistry as a teaching subject fits this line, which makes Direct Entry a natural step for college of education graduates.
  • What MOUAU itself said: the 2026/2027 notice as reprinted gave no Direct Entry details, so watch the portal for a separate DE announcement.

Does the 2026 NCE change affect this course?

No. JAMB’s 2026 NCE guide moved candidates for colleges of education onto a separate NCE registration with no UTME, and it ended 100 and 200 level degree admission into colleges of education from 2026/2027. Those rules are about colleges of education. MOUAU is a university, and its B.Sc (Ed) Chemistry Education degree is still filled through the UTME and CAPS. If you hold an NCE already, it counts towards Direct Entry here, as the list above shows.

How MOUAU screening works

MOUAU’s 2026/2027 notice, signed by the Registrar, Dr (Mrs) Nkeiruka Charity Mbanasor, set out these rules for UTME candidates:

DetailMOUAU 2026/2027 screening
Who could applyCandidates with 150 or more in the 2026 UTME who chose MOUAU first; others could first change to MOUAU on the JAMB portal
Registration opened6 June 2026, online through www.mouau.edu.ng
Registration and validationportal.mouau.edu.ng
Fee₦2,000 through Remita, by card or cash at any bank
O’levelWAEC, NECO or NABTEB results uploaded to JAMB CAPS at an accredited CBT centre
How O’level countsThe notice says O’level results and the number of sittings are weighted
Awaiting resultsCandidates still waiting for 2026 results were told not to register until the results were out
Payment problemsportal@mouau.edu.ng
Closing date and test dateNot stated in the notice as reprinted

The notice does not describe a written Post-UTME test, so I would not plan around one. Expect MOUAU to rank Chemistry Education applicants on the UTME score and the O’level result, with one sitting counting in your favour. Keep checking the portal in case a test or an extra step is announced; the notice itself told candidates to check back for screening results and admission status.

Worked example for a Chemistry Education candidate

MOUAU has not published an aggregate formula. This example only measures the gap to the minimum and to my safe target, so treat it as illustrative.

Take Ngozi, who scored 168 in the UTME with English, Chemistry, Biology and Physics. In one WAEC sitting she has B3 in Chemistry, C4 in Mathematics, C5 in English, B2 in Biology and C6 in Physics.

  1. Eligibility: 168 minus 150 = 18. She clears the MOUAU minimum by 18 marks.
  2. Against my safe target: 175 minus 168 = 7. She is a little short.
  3. O’level check: credits in Mathematics, Chemistry, English, Biology and Physics in one sitting. That matches the brochure line exactly and earns the one-sitting advantage.
  4. My advice: register for screening, keep MOUAU first, and watch CAPS closely for an offer in Chemistry Education or a nearby science education option.

Compare Ifeanyi with 191 but a C6 in Mathematics from a second sitting. His UTME score is well above my target, so he should still be fine, but under MOUAU’s weighting the second sitting may cost him a few ranking points.

How to apply for Chemistry Education at MOUAU, step by step

  1. Get your JAMB profile code: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN.
  2. Register the UTME with MOUAU first: choose Chemistry Education with English, Chemistry and two of Biology, Physics and Mathematics. If you already registered with another school as first choice, do a JAMB change of institution before MOUAU’s screening opens.
  3. Upload your O’level to CAPS: do it at a JAMB-accredited CBT centre. MOUAU’s notice requires your WAEC, NECO or NABTEB result there.
  4. Register for screening: when MOUAU announces the exercise on www.mouau.edu.ng, register and validate on portal.mouau.edu.ng with your JAMB registration number.
  5. Pay the screening fee: ₦2,000 in 2026/2027, on the Remita invoice the portal generates. Print every receipt and slip.
  6. Watch the portal: MOUAU posts screening results and admission status there, and the decision then shows on JAMB CAPS.
  7. Accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, choose Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS, and accept. JAMB gave candidates four weeks to accept in 2026.
  8. Pay acceptance and clear: MOUAU has not published its acceptance fee or school fees in any source I reached. Pay only the amount shown on your MOUAU portal invoice.

Warning

Some websites sell “MOUAU departmental cut-off” lists, and some people sell admission “slots”. MOUAU’s notice gave one minimum of 150 for every course, and every genuine offer appears on JAMB CAPS. Pay MOUAU only through the Remita invoice from its portal.

JAMB set 31 October 2026 as the date for public universities to finish 2026/2027 admissions. If you applied in 2026, check CAPS now. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status you may see, and how to check your JAMB result covers what to do once your 2027 score is out.

Studying Chemistry Education at MOUAU

Chemistry Education sits in the Department of Science Education, College of Education (COED), on the Umudike campus about 10 km from Umuahia in Abia State. The COED page lists the department’s B.Sc (Ed) options as Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Integrated Science and Computer Science Education. MOUAU itself was set up by federal decree in November 1992 as a university of agriculture.

What you study

  • Chemistry content: general, organic, inorganic, physical and analytical chemistry, with practical laboratory work.
  • Education courses: educational psychology, curriculum and instruction, measurement and evaluation, and methods for teaching chemistry.
  • Teaching practice: supervised teaching in secondary schools, a standard part of every B.Sc (Ed) in Nigeria.
  • General studies: the courses every MOUAU student takes, plus a final-year project.

MOUAU’s own pages I reached do not state the duration. Four years through the UTME is the usual length for a B.Sc (Ed) in Nigeria, and Direct Entry students normally start at 200 level.

Accreditation

I could not confirm the current NUC accreditation status of Chemistry Education at MOUAU. The course is on the university’s official department list, which is a good sign, but ask the department before you pay acceptance and make sure your admission letter names Chemistry Education.

Part-time route

MOUAU has also run part-time B.Sc programmes through its Centre for Continuing Education. Myschool’s report of the part-time call for 2023/2024 (12 September 2023) listed Chemistry Education among the courses. That is an older notice, and part-time entry rules and fees were not stated in it, so treat it as a possible fallback and confirm the current call on the MOUAU portal.

Careers

  • Chemistry teacher in public and private secondary schools
  • Laboratory work in schools and colleges
  • Examination bodies, textbook publishing and tutorial centres
  • Postgraduate study in chemistry or science education. To teach in Nigeria you are expected to register with the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN)

Every one of these shares MOUAU’s 150 minimum. For UTME practice, use our JAMB Chemistry syllabus for 2027 and the JAMB Biology syllabus.

Mistakes that cost Chemistry Education applicants a MOUAU place

  • Treating 150 as an admission score: it only lets you register for screening.
  • Choosing MOUAU second: the notice asked for MOUAU as first choice.
  • No credit in Mathematics or Chemistry: both are named in the brochure line.
  • Picking the wrong course name: check the list JAMB shows for MOUAU before you submit.
  • O’level not on CAPS: the notice requires the upload.
  • Registering on awaiting result: MOUAU asked candidates to wait until results were out.

If MOUAU is not your first choice yet, read JAMB change of institution. If you registered a different course, JAMB change of course explains how to switch.

MOUAU Chemistry Education cut off mark: frequently asked questions

Is 150 enough for Chemistry Education in MOUAU? 150 lets you register for MOUAU screening, because it is the minimum for every course. To be safe, aim for 175 or more and a one-sitting O’level.

What subjects do I need for Chemistry Education in JAMB? The usual combination is Use of English, Chemistry and two of Biology, Physics and Mathematics. Confirm it on JAMB’s e-brochure, because Myschool’s reprint did not show the UTME line.

Can I use two sittings for Chemistry Education at MOUAU? Yes, up to two sittings are accepted, but MOUAU’s notice says the number of sittings is weighted, so one sitting gives you an edge.

Can I enter Chemistry Education at MOUAU with NCE? The brochure accepts NCE or A level passes including Chemistry and one other science for Direct Entry. MOUAU has not published its own DE notice for 2026/2027, so check the portal.
