GOUNI Applied Biology Cut-Off Mark 2027/2028 & Admission Requirements

GOUNI’s cut-off mark for Applied Biology is 150 and the form is free, but JAMB has no Applied Biology entry for GOUNI. See the nearest JAMB courses, subjects, O’level, fees and alternatives.

The GOUNI Applied Biology cut-off mark is 150 in the UTME. Godfrey Okoye University, Enugu set 200 for Medicine and Surgery and Law, 180 for Nursing and 150 for every other programme in 2026/2027, and Applied Biology is in that last group, level with JAMB’s national minimum for universities. The form is free. There is one complication you must sort out before you register, though: JAMB has no course called Applied Biology on its list for GOUNI.

2027/2028 update: GOUNI cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.

Check this before you register

Applied Biology is on GOUNI’s 2026/2027 form list, its course list and its fee schedule, but JAMB’s course list for GOUNI has no Applied Biology entry. The nearest JAMB entries for GOUNI are Biology and Biological Science(s). Before you register the UTME, change course or pay anything, e-mail GOUNI’s admissions office and get a written answer on which JAMB course it uses to admit Applied Biology students. If you would rather avoid the question, GOUNI’s Biotechnology and Microbiology are on JAMB’s list under their own names.

Below I set out what each of the two nearest JAMB entries requires, what GOUNI’s own Biology handbook asks for, how the university decides, the fees, what you would study and the alternatives if you want a course with a clean JAMB match.

GOUNI has never published a separate Applied Biology score that I could find, so 150 is the number to plan with. For this course, the JAMB course name and your O’level usually matter more than the score.

Is Applied Biology on JAMB’s list for GOUNI?

No. I checked Myschool’s reprint of JAMB’s 55 courses for GOUNI on 30 October 2026. It includes Biology, Biological Science(s), Biotechnology and Microbiology, but nothing called Applied Biology. GOUNI’s own pages, on the other hand, list Applied Biology as a B.Sc. in the Faculty of Natural Science and Environmental Studies, and the curriculum page posts a B.Sc. Biology handbook rather than one titled Applied Biology.

The likeliest reading is that Applied Biology is GOUNI’s name for the biology degree JAMB records as Biology or Biological Science(s). That is my inference, not something GOUNI has said, which is why the written confirmation matters. CAPS only lets a university offer you a course that sits on your JAMB profile, so choosing the wrong entry can hold up your admission.

JAMB entry for GOUNIUTME subjectsO’levelGOUNI remark in the brochure
BiologyBiology, Chemistry, and Physics or MathematicsFive credits incl. English, Biology, Chemistry, and Mathematics or PhysicsDirect Entry: “same as in Microbiology”
Biological Science(s)Biology, Chemistry, and Physics or MathematicsFive credits incl. English, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology and one other scienceO’level: five credits in English, Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics and Biology, at not more than two sittings

The UTME subjects are identical, so whichever entry GOUNI names, your exam subjects stay the same. The safest O’level is the stricter one: English, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and Physics in not more than two sittings. That satisfies both entries and GOUNI’s handbook.

What score should you aim for? (my advice)

Applied Biology is not a crowded course, and GOUNI decides forms one at a time. These bands are my own reading, not a GOUNI rule:

Your UTME scoreMy read for GOUNI Applied Biology
Below 150Not eligible through UTME this year. JUPEB at GOUNI is the main alternative.
150 to 164Eligible, provided the JAMB course name and your O’level are right.
165 to 179Comfortable at GOUNI, and above the 160 that UNN and ESUT set for their biology degrees.
180 and aboveComfortable. Consider Biochemistry or Microbiology at GOUNI too; they have exact JAMB entries.

UTME subject combination and O’level for Applied Biology at GOUNI

RequirementApplied Biology at GOUNI
UTME subjectsUse of English, Biology, Chemistry, and Physics or Mathematics
O’level, GOUNI handbookFive credits: English and Mathematics plus three relevant sciences, preferably Biology, Chemistry and Physics
Agricultural ScienceThe handbook says it may be considered, but only alongside Chemistry and with at least a credit in Physics
SittingsNot more than two (JAMB remark for GOUNI under Biological Science(s))
GOUNI form pageFive credits in the course’s subjects, English and Mathematics included
Direct Entry, GOUNI handbookFive credits, two of them at A-level, for a three-year programme from 200 level

Which UTME subjects to write

I would write English, Biology, Chemistry and Physics. It meets both nearest JAMB entries and also fits Biotechnology, Microbiology and Biochemistry at GOUNI, so you have somewhere to go if GOUNI tells you to switch to a course with an exact JAMB name.

Awaiting result

You can sit the UTME and fill the GOUNI form while waiting for WAEC or NECO, but CAPS will not move until the result is uploaded.

Direct Entry and JUPEB

GOUNI’s Biology handbook admits Direct Entry students with five credits, two of them at A-level, into a three-year programme from 200 level. JAMB’s general Biology line also mentions NCE merit, and its GOUNI remark for Biology simply points to the Microbiology rules. Because the JAMB course name is the open question here, confirm the Direct Entry course name with GOUNI too. The form page tells Direct Entry applicants to use the current JAMB Direct Entry form.

GOUNI also runs JUPEB on campus; ask the JUPEB office which three subjects it pairs with this course. The programme lasts nine to eleven months, the on-campus form costs ₦10,000 and you need five O’level credits in not more than two sittings. A good JUPEB result is a route into 200 level. Since JAMB’s June 2026 guide, colleges of education no longer admit anyone into 100 or 200 level degree programmes, so a degree through a college is no longer a back door. Your real options outside the UTME are JUPEB, A-levels, or an ND followed by Direct Entry.

How GOUNI screens Applied Biology applicants

GOUNI’s official form page does not describe a Post-UTME test for undergraduates. You fill an online form, the admissions office checks it against your UTME score and O’level, and the decision comes to your e-mail. The page mentions no written test, no interview and no aggregate score for Applied Biology.

Worked example (illustrative)

GOUNI publishes no aggregate formula, so this example only checks the score, the subjects and the JAMB course name.

Nnamdi scored 164 in English, Biology, Chemistry and Physics, and registered GOUNI with the course Biology. His WAEC (one sitting) has credits in English, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Geography.

  1. Score: 164 is 14 above GOUNI’s 150.
  2. UTME subjects: fit both Biology and Biological Science(s).
  3. O’level: the five science-heavy credits from one sitting meet every version of the rule.
  4. Course name: before filling the GOUNI form for Applied Biology, he e-mails admissions to ask whether Biology on his JAMB profile is the right entry. If GOUNI names Biological Science(s), he does a JAMB change of course first.
  5. Next step: fill the free form, watch his e-mail, accept on CAPS.

Admission odds and advice

  • Settle the JAMB name first: it is the one problem on this course that a high score cannot fix.
  • Keep Physics: GOUNI’s handbook and the Biological Science(s) remark both expect it.
  • Fix your institution early: GOUNI can only propose candidates who have it on their JAMB profile.
  • Keep every e-mail: a written answer from GOUNI is your evidence at clearance.
  • Timing: JAMB set 30 November 2026 as the 2026/2027 admission deadline for private universities, and GOUNI repeated it in its news post of 12 May 2026. That window runs until 30 November 2026. JAMB announces the 2027/2028 dates each year, so expect a similar private-university date but check it when it comes out.

How to apply for Applied Biology at GOUNI, step by step

  1. Get your JAMB profile code: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN.
  2. Register the UTME correctly: choose Godfrey Okoye University and the JAMB course GOUNI confirms in writing (Biology or Biological Science(s)), and write English, Biology, Chemistry, and Physics or Mathematics.
  3. Upload your O’level to CAPS: do it at a JAMB-accredited centre as soon as your WAEC or NECO result is out. GOUNI cannot propose you on CAPS until the result is there.
  4. Make GOUNI your institution: if you chose another university first, do a JAMB change of institution to GOUNI. The form page says the admission is completed with a JAMB admission letter, so this step cannot be skipped.
  5. Fill the GOUNI form: open the admission form page on gouni.edu.ng, choose your course under the Faculty of Natural Science and Environmental Studies and submit. The form costs nothing for this faculty.
  6. Check your e-mail: GOUNI says the decision comes within three working days.
  7. Accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, open Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS, and accept the offer. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status you may see.
  8. Pay and clear: pay the acceptance fee through the university’s own online payment platform only (GOUNI warns that payments into personal accounts are at your own risk), then print your JAMB admission letter for clearance.

How much is Applied Biology at GOUNI? (last published fees)

The newest GOUNI fee schedule I could find is the 2025/2026 session fees structure. The 2026/2027 schedule was not online when I checked, so use these figures to judge the size of the bill and expect some change for 2027/2028.

Item (2025/2026)AmountNote
Applied Biology tuition, first figure₦820,000Under the heading “Tuition and accommodation fees”
Other three yearly figures₦790,000, ₦740,000 and ₦750,000The schedule does not label which level each figure belongs to
Acceptance fee₦30,000100 level only
Matriculation fee₦20,000100 level only
Online course registration and ICT₦60,000Every level
Library fee₦20,000General charges
Parents’ Forum fee₦10,000General charges
Medical and drug test₦10,000100 to 300 level
Faculty and departmental fees₦5,000 and ₦3,000All faculties except Law

There are smaller charges as well, such as student affairs, sports, sanitation, entrepreneurship, health insurance and ID card fees. Tuition is paid per session: 60% in the first semester and the remaining 40% within three months of resumption. The other fees must be cleared before course registration. The schedule lists Applied Biology by that name, with the same figures as Biotechnology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Industrial Chemistry and Physics. Ask the bursary what the tuition line covers, especially accommodation, before you budget.

Studying Applied Biology at GOUNI

Is GOUNI Applied Biology accredited?

  • GOUNI’s own statement: the accreditation page says all its programmes have NUC accreditation, without a list of programme results or dates.
  • Department page: GOUNI’s Applied Biology course page (updated 5 October 2025) says the department’s programmes follow NUC’s minimum academic standards and that the biology programme was added with the approval of the University Senate and NUC. It gives no accreditation result.
  • NUC publication: the NUC’s “Accreditation Results 1990 to 2025” document (September 2026) is online, but the copy I could read stops before universities starting with G, and a search of NUC’s report pages turned up no report naming this GOUNI programme.

Applied Biology was not among the 13 GOUNI programmes reported with full NUC accreditation in 2021, and I found no later result either way. I am treating its NUC status as not confirmed. Put this question in the same e-mail as the JAMB course name.

What you study

GOUNI’s B.Sc. Biology handbook (2023 to 2028) is the closest curriculum the university has posted. The course page describes a four-year degree, and the handbook sets 120 units to graduate, 60 of them from Biology options. If GOUNI’s Applied Biology follows a different handbook, ask the department for it.

LevelMain courses in GOUNI’s B.Sc. Biology handbook
100 levelGeneral Biology I and II with practicals, General Chemistry and Physics I and II, Elementary Mathematics, Introduction to Computing, Mammalogy
200 levelGenetics I, Introductory Ecology, General Physiology, Biological Techniques, Developmental and Cell Biology, Hydrobiology, Biostatistics, Freshwater Ecology, Environmental Impact Assessment
300 levelGenetics II, Population Biology and Evolution, Biogeography and Soil Biology, Nigerian Fauna and Flora, Systematic Biology, Field Course I, Coal Microbiology and Biotechnology, Oceanography, SIWES
400 levelPlant and Animal Breeding, Wildlife Conservation, Pest Management, Applied Biotechnology, Bioinformatics, Molecular Biology, Fish Biology, Hydroponics and Aquaponics, Aquapreneurship, Field Course II, Project

SIWES (BIO 300) is at 300 level, with placements such as fish farms, pest control units, zoological gardens, water and sewage works and biotechnology centres. The GOU-coded courses lean towards water, fisheries and environmental work around Enugu.

Careers

Graduates go into fisheries and aquaculture, environmental impact assessment and monitoring, wildlife and forestry agencies, public health and pest control, research institutes and laboratory work. Many teach Biology after a postgraduate diploma in education, and others start fish, mushroom or hydroponic farms. A master’s in ecology, hydrobiology, parasitology or environmental biology is a common next step.

Mistakes that cost Applied Biology applicants a GOUNI place

  • Registering any biology course on JAMB without asking GOUNI which one it uses.
  • Paying the acceptance fee before the course on your CAPS offer matches what you applied for.
  • Dropping Physics at O’level.
  • Combining three sittings.
  • Leaving GOUNI as second choice without a change of institution.
