GOUNI International Relations Cut-Off Mark 2027/2028 and Admission Requirements

GOUNI’s cut-off mark for International Relations is 150 and the form is free. See the JAMB subjects (Economics and Literature are required), the Mathematics credit rule, the French courses and how to apply.

The GOUNI International Relations cut-off mark is 150 in the UTME. Godfrey Okoye University, Enugu, published 150 as the minimum JAMB score for every programme outside Medicine, Law and Nursing in 2026/2027, and International Relations is in that group. That is the same as JAMB’s national minimum for universities, and the form is free.

2027/2028 update: GOUNI cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.

JAMB lists the course for GOUNI as International Relations. Watch the UTME subjects closely: JAMB’s base line for this course names Economics and Literature in English, plus one of Geography, Government or History. Many candidates sit Government, CRS and Literature by habit and only find the mismatch later.

This guide covers the official figure, a target score, the subject rules (including GOUNI’s Mathematics remark), the online admission process with worked examples, the French courses in GOUNI’s handbook, and the alternatives in Enugu.

Is 150 enough for International Relations at GOUNI?

Yes. GOUNI’s 2026/2027 minimum JAMB scores are Medicine and Surgery 200, Nursing 180, Law 200, Architecture 150, Computer Science 150, Education 150 and other programmes 150. International Relations falls under other programmes. AbsTechConnect repeated those figures on 24 May 2026, but the GOUNI page is the authority.

GOUNI does not publish departmental cut-offs or merit lists. International Relations is a popular course with arts and social science candidates, so apply early in the cycle. A correct subject combination matters more than a few extra marks.

Safe target score for GOUNI International Relations (my advice)

Your UTME scoreMy read for International Relations at GOUNI
Below 150Not eligible at any Nigerian university in 2026/2027
150 to 164Eligible at GOUNI, Coal City and Maduka with the right subjects and O’level
165 to 179Comfortable at GOUNI
180 and aboveStrong; also clears ESUT’s 180 band for International Relations and Diplomacy

For the 2027 UTME, I would aim for 165 or more. If you also want a public university option, ESUT International Relations and Diplomacy sat in ESUT’s 180 band in 2026/2027, so 180 is the score to chase. GOUNI is private, so there is no catchment or state quota.

JUPEB combination at GOUNIEconomics, Literature in English and Government

The UTME combination to sit

For GOUNI, sit Use of English, Economics, Literature in English and Government. That is JAMB’s base line with Government as the third subject, and it is also exactly GOUNI’s JUPEB combination for International Relations. History or Geography can replace Government if that is your stronger subject.

Be careful when reading other universities’ rules. Coal City University’s remark lets candidates use any three Arts or Social Science subjects, and some universities want Mathematics in the UTME. Those remarks do not apply to GOUNI. GOUNI has no UTME remark on this page, so JAMB’s base line is what it goes by.

O’level: Mathematics and Government or History

JAMB’s base O’level rule does not name Mathematics, but GOUNI’s remark and its own handbook both do. Present credits in English Language, Mathematics, Government or History, Economics and Literature in English, ideally in one sitting and never more than two.

Do not confuse it with Political Science and International Relations

JAMB’s GOUNI list has three similar entries: Political Science, International Relations, and Political Science and International Relations. GOUNI’s 2026/2027 programme list has Political Science and International Relations as two separate courses. If you want International Relations, pick the entry named International Relations, which matches GOUNI’s own name for the programme. If you are unsure, e-mail GOUNI admissions before registering.

How GOUNI admission works for International Relations

GOUNI’s 2026/2027 admission page describes an online application followed by an e-mailed decision within three working days. It mentions no written Post-UTME test or interview for undergraduates. With no published aggregate formula, GOUNI looks at your UTME score, your subjects and your O’level.

Worked example for an International Relations applicant

Chiamaka scored 171 in English, Economics, Literature in English and Government. Her WAEC result from one sitting has B3 in English Language, C5 in Mathematics, B2 in Government, C4 in Economics and B3 in Literature in English.

  1. Score check: 171 minus 150 = 21. She clears GOUNI’s minimum comfortably.
  2. Subject check: Economics, Literature and Government match JAMB’s line and GOUNI’s JUPEB combination.
  3. O’level check: English, Mathematics and Government credits in one sitting, plus Economics and Literature. She meets JAMB’s rule, GOUNI’s remark and the handbook.
  4. What I would tell her: apply early and accept on CAPS once the offer shows.

David scored 186 in English, Government, CRS and Literature in English, with a D7 in Mathematics. He has two problems. His UTME has no Economics, which JAMB’s line for International Relations requires, and his Mathematics grade fails GOUNI’s credit rule. His subjects fit GOUNI History and International Studies better, but that course also needs a Mathematics credit at GOUNI. The Mathematics resit comes first; after that he should ask GOUNI admissions in writing which course his UTME subjects qualify him for.

How to apply for International Relations at GOUNI

  1. Get your JAMB profile code: text NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN.
  2. Register the right course: pick Godfrey Okoye University and the course exactly as JAMB lists it, International Relations, with the correct UTME subjects.
  3. Fix your choice if needed: GOUNI says candidates who did not choose it first must do a JAMB change of institution to GOUNI. Our change of institution guide walks you through it.
  4. Upload your O’level to CAPS: do this at a JAMB-accredited centre, and check that every grade shows correctly on your e-Facility profile.
  5. Fill GOUNI’s online form: open the Fill Admission Form page on gouni.edu.ng and apply for International Relations. Use an e-mail address you check daily, because the decision comes by e-mail.
  6. Form fee: free for International Relations. Only Medicine and Surgery, Nursing and Law carry the ₦5,000 fee. Anyone who charges you for this form is not GOUNI.
  7. Wait for the e-mail: GOUNI says it replies within three working days of submission.
  8. Accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, open Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS, and accept the offer. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status.
  9. Pay fees the right way: after an offer, GOUNI asks students outside Medicine, Nursing and Law to pay acceptance, tuition, ICT and other fees. Use only GOUNI’s official online payment platform.

Warning

GOUNI tells applicants to pay only through the university’s official online payment platform and says money paid into a personal account is at the payer’s own risk. Nobody can sell you a GOUNI admission slot. Every genuine offer shows on JAMB CAPS.

For the 2026/2027 cycle, JAMB set 30 November 2026 as the admission deadline for private universities, and GOUNI repeated that date in its news post of 12 May 2026. That window runs until 30 November 2026. JAMB has not announced the 2027/2028 dates yet; they normally come after the UTME, so 2027 candidates should watch for them then.

Studying International Relations at GOUNI

GOUNI’s B.Sc. International Relations handbook, written for 2023 to 2028 and posted on the university’s site, places the course in the Department of Political Science and International Relations, Faculty of Management and Social Sciences. UTME entrants take four years and Direct Entry students three. You need at least 120 credit units to graduate. GOUNI’s course page, updated 20 September 2025, also mentions a postgraduate diploma and an M.Sc. in the same field.

LevelCore courses in GOUNI’s handbook
100Ancestors of the Contemporary International System, Evolution of the Contemporary International System, History of Nigeria, Introduction to International Relations, General Studies
200Introduction to Political Analysis, Political Thought from Plato to Machiavelli, Foundations of Political Economy, Introduction to Computer, Elementary French
300International Economic Relations, The International Political System, Law of Nations, Theories of International Relations, Intermediate French I and II, Research Method I, a field trip
400Foreign Policy Analysis, Nigerian Foreign Policy, Human Rights, Contemporary Strategic Studies, Research Method II, Research Project

French and the field trip

Two things set GOUNI’s handbook apart. French is compulsory: Elementary French at 200 level and two Intermediate French courses at 300 level. German appears in the 100-level table too. You do not need French at O’level to enter, but if you can start learning it early, you will find those courses easier, and French is useful in a West African diplomatic career. The handbook also includes a 300-level field trip of about two months with an international organisation, which works like a short internship.

GOUNI’s 2025/2026 second-semester timetable lists International Relations classes at all four levels, so the programme is running in full.

Accreditation

GOUNI’s accreditation page says all its programmes have NUC accreditation, without naming programmes or dates. International Relations was not among the 13 GOUNI programmes reported to have full NUC accreditation in August 2021, and I found no NUC report page for it. The same department’s Political Science programme earned full NUC accreditation with 95.41 per cent after a visit in December 2024, according to NUC’s published report. That is a good sign for the department, but it does not cover International Relations. Treat International Relations’ NUC status as not confirmed, and ask GOUNI before you pay fees.

Careers

GOUNI’s course page lists intelligence analyst, diplomat, policy analyst, journalist or foreign correspondent, and communication specialist among the roles open to graduates. Others work with NGOs, international organisations, the foreign service, security agencies and in research.
