Arkansas Walton MBA 2027 for International Students: Ranking, GMAT, Tuition, Scholarships and Deadlines

Arkansas Walton MBA 2027 for International Students: Ranking, GMAT, Tuition, Scholarships and Deadlines
The Walton MBA at the University of Arkansas is No. 48 in U.S. News 2026 and now runs for one year, with an assistantship and tuition waiver for admitted students. See English rules, requirements, scholarships, salaries and the 15 February 2027 international deadline.

The Walton MBA at the University of Arkansas’s Sam M. Walton College of Business is now a one-year full-time programme of 38 credit hours, running from August to June in Fayetteville, and U.S. News ranks it No. 48 in its 2026 Best Business Schools list. Its main attraction for international students is money: Walton says it gives graduate assistantship funding to all admitted full-time students, with a full tuition waiver and a monthly stipend in return for about 20 hours of work a week.

The catch is space. Walton says the cohort is smaller now and that only a few seats are open to international applicants. Your Deadline is 15 February 2027, which Walton names as both the international deadline and the priority deadline. This guide covers the Walton MBA requirements, acceptance rate, English rules (Nigerian and Ghanaian degrees do not exempt you), the statement of purpose, costs, scholarships and salary outcomes.

Walton MBA ranking

U.S. News ranked Walton No. 48 among full-time MBA programmes in its 2026 edition, released on 7 April 2026. Walton’s own MBA page also cites No. 22 among public MBA programmes in that list, No. 15 for an MBA with a supply chain emphasis and No. 21 for information systems, plus No. 11 for return on investment in the Wall Street Journal’s latest ranking.

The supply chain rank makes sense given the location. Walmart’s head office is in nearby Bentonville, and Northwest Arkansas is home to many of the retailer’s suppliers and to companies such as Tyson Foods and J.B. Hunt.

Walton MBA acceptance rate and class profile

Poets&Quants reported in August 2026 that Walton admitted 29.3% of applicants for the class that entered in 2025, down sharply from 57.4% the year before. Of those admitted, 86% enrolled, one of the highest yields in its top 100 list.

Walton’s MBA page does not publish class size, average GMAT or GRE, average GPA, the share of international students or average work experience. It says only that the cohort is smaller and that seats for international applicants are few. Ask the admissions team for the latest profile if you want to judge your chances.

Walton MBA requirements for international students

  1. Online application through the Graduate School of Business portal.
  2. Application fee: $75 for international applicants.
  3. Transcripts: unofficial copies for the first review; official transcripts, diplomas and degree certificates once admitted. The university evaluates foreign credentials itself and does not accept outside evaluations such as WES.
  4. GMAT or GRE score, or a resume showing at least two years of professional work after your bachelor’s degree, judged by the MBA admissions committee.
  5. Statement of purpose: no more than two double-spaced pages, covering your goals and achievements.
  6. Resume highlighting your professional and academic achievements.
  7. Three professional references: entered in the portal; each referee receives an email to upload a letter.
  8. English test score for international applicants.
  9. Summer boot camps in accounting and statistics before the programme starts, once admitted.

Should you take the GMAT or GRE?

Walton lets two or more years of professional work stand in for a test score. Its MBA page still says strong GMAT or GRE scores and solid work experience are essential for international applicants. With only a few international seats, I would sit the test and send a good score.

English requirements

The University of Arkansas sets these graduate minimums. Departments can set higher ones.

TestUniversity of Arkansas graduate minimum
TOEFL iBT79
IELTS Academic6.5 (General Training not accepted)
PTE Academic58
Duolingo English Test110, but the university says it is not accepted for the Walton College

This is where many African applicants get caught. The university says a degree from a country where English is an official language of instruction, and it names Nigeria, Ghana and Kenya as examples, does not exempt you. Graduate applicants are exempt only with a degree from an accredited U.S. institution or from a country where English is the official and native language. A WASSCE, IGCSE or IB English grade of B or better may earn an exemption, but only with the Graduate Dean’s approval. Scores must come from tests taken within two years before your start term.

Walton’s application page says Duolingo is accepted for master’s programmes, while the university’s English page says it is not accepted for Walton. Take TOEFL or IELTS to be safe.

Walton MBA deadlines 2026-2027

DeadlineDateWho it applies to
International and priority deadline15 February 2027All international applicants; priority for domestic applicants
Final deadline (domestic)15 March 2027 on the application page; 1 June 2027 on the MBA pageDomestic applicants, subject to space

Applications after 15 February are considered only if seats remain in the cohort. The programme starts each fall, and there is no spring or summer entry.

International applicants

Apply well before 15 February 2027. Walton has only a few international seats, and admitted students then need the I-20 or DS-2019 paperwork, a SEVIS payment and a visa interview before the August start, plus time for the summer boot camps.

How to apply, step by step

  1. Book TOEFL or IELTS: do not count on a waiver or on Duolingo.
  2. Take the GMAT or GRE, or make sure your resume shows two full years of post-degree work.
  3. Write the statement of purpose: two double-spaced pages at most.
  4. Enter three professional referees in the portal early so they have time to upload.
  5. Upload unofficial transcripts from every university attended.
  6. Pay the $75 fee and submit before 15 February 2027.
  7. After admission: upload the documents the portal asks for to produce your I-20 or DS-2019, and bring official transcripts and degree certificates when you arrive.

How to write the Walton statement of purpose

Two double-spaced pages is roughly 500 to 600 words, so every paragraph has to earn its place. Walton asks for your goals and achievements. A plan that works:

  • An opening paragraph with your goal after the MBA: role, industry and the kind of company.
  • Two paragraphs on achievements, each with a number: money saved, sales grown, people managed, a process you changed.
  • One paragraph on why a one-year programme in Northwest Arkansas suits you, such as the supply chain or information systems emphasis and the retail and logistics employers nearby.
  • A short close on what you will bring to a small cohort.

For illustration: “I manage inbound freight for a beverage distributor in Nairobi, and last year I cut late deliveries from 18% to 6%. I want to take that work to a U.S. retail supply chain, and Walton’s supply chain emphasis sits next to the companies that run the biggest ones.”

Mention the assistantship only if you can say what work you would do well, such as data analysis or research support. It shows you understand the deal.

Interview

Walton’s application page does not mention an interview for the full-time MBA. If admissions contacts you for a conversation, prepare your goals, your reasons for a one-year programme and an example of teamwork, because you will spend the year inside one cohort.

What the admissions committee looks for

  • Strong GMAT or GRE scores and solid professional experience, which Walton calls essential for international applicants.
  • A clear career goal in a field Walton is known for, such as supply chain, analytics or information systems.
  • Readiness for a compressed year, including the summer boot camps.
  • Someone who will work well as a graduate assistant for about 20 hours a week alongside classes.

Walton MBA tuition, assistantships and costs

Walton estimates the in-state tuition and fees for the current one-year programme at $30,091.44 and says out-of-state and international students pay additional tuition and fees. It has not posted the international total for the one-year format. Its cost page still shows the 2024-25 rates for the older 51-hour programme: $1,849.72 per credit hour for nonresidents, and $99,990.72 in total for international students once insurance, orientation and student fees were added.

For most admitted students the tuition figure matters less, because Walton says it gives graduate assistantship funding to all admitted full-time MBA students. The assistantship brings a full tuition waiver and a stipend paid monthly, in return for about 20 hours of work a week. Walton does not publish the stipend amount.

Costs not covered by the assistantship

  • Housing and food in Fayetteville, which Walton does not price on its cost page.
  • Health insurance and student fees that sit outside tuition.
  • Books, a laptop, parking and travel.
  • The Global Immersion Trip, listed as an extra expense.
  • Flights, SEVIS fee, visa fee and test fees.

Walton MBA scholarships for international students

Walton scholarship applications open only after you are admitted. Amounts and numbers can change from year to year.

AwardAmountNotes
Graduate assistantshipFull tuition waiver plus monthly stipendAll admitted full-time MBA students, about 20 hours of work a week
Karthikeyan Sennimalai Scholarship for International Students$1,800 (two awards)International students with a 3.25 GPA over the last 60 hours of the undergraduate degree
Ecklund Family Scholarship$4,000 (two awards)3.25 GPA, leadership, financial need, supply chain or entrepreneurship and innovation track
Russell E. Westmeyer Fellowship$9,000 shared among several students3.00 GPA and strong financial need

Walton does not say whether international students can hold the Ecklund or Westmeyer awards, and its pages do not mention Prodigy Finance or MPOWER. For outside funding, see our guide to American scholarships for international students.

STEM designation and OPT

Walton’s MBA page does not say that the full-time MBA is STEM-designated. It lists supply chain, business analytics and information systems emphases, but without a STEM label. Assume 12 months of standard OPT after graduation, and ask admissions in writing if you hope for the 24-month STEM extension.

Walton MBA salary and employment

Walton Career Services reports these figures for full-time MBA graduates of 2024-25, with a 95% knowledge rate:

  • 89% employed within three months of graduation.
  • Average starting salary of $82,185. Walton does not publish a median.

Walton does not list top employers or an industry breakdown for the MBA on that page. Poets&Quants’ school profile gives an average base of $79,589 for 2024 graduates. These salaries are lower than at the coastal schools in this ranking band, but so is the cost of the degree if you hold an assistantship, and the cost of living in Fayetteville.

Common mistakes international applicants make

  • Skipping the English test because your degree was taught in English. The University of Arkansas says this does not exempt Nigerian, Ghanaian or Kenyan graduates.
  • Sending a Duolingo score. The university says Duolingo is not accepted for the Walton College.
  • Missing 15 February 2027. After that date, seats go only if some remain.
  • Writing more than two double-spaced pages for the statement of purpose.
  • Applying without a test score when there are only a few international seats.
  • Asking a family friend or lecturer for a reference. Walton asks for three professional references.

Who should apply to Walton, and who shouldn’t

Apply if you want a one-year MBA at little or no tuition cost, you are interested in supply chain, retail, analytics or information systems, and you can handle classes plus 20 hours of assistantship work a week. Applicants with a few years of operations or logistics work will find the location useful.

Think twice if you want a large international community, a two-year programme with a summer internship in the middle, STEM OPT or a big-city setting. With only a few international seats, apply to Walton alongside other schools.
