The Akwa Ibom Poly Mechanical Engineering Technology cut off mark is 100 in the UTME. JAMB’s national minimum for polytechnics is 100, and Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic, Ikot Osurua set its 2026/2027 ND cut-off at “100 and above” in the 2026 UTME. Mechanical Engineering Technology does not have a separate published figure.
2027/2028 update: Akwa Ibom Poly cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.
JAMB’s course list for Akwa Ibom Poly has Mechanical Engineering Technology, as does the school’s own 2026/2027 ND admission notice. You can select this established course on your UTME profile. I have also added a safe target score and a worked example for Mechanical Engineering Technology, both marked as my advice.

Akwa Ibom Poly Mechanical Engineering Technology cut-off history
| Session | Figure | What it is | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2026/2027 | 100 | JAMB national minimum for polytechnics and monotechnics | Official |
| 2026/2027 | 100 and above | Akwa Ibom Poly ND cut-off for all ND applicants | Official (school notice, via Myschool) |
| 2025/2026 | 100 | JAMB national minimum for polytechnics | Official (reported by Nairametrics, 8 July 2025) |
| 2024/2025 | 120 | Minimum reported on a blog’s Akwa Ibom Poly post-UTME page | Unofficial (allschool; no school notice cited) |
| Any year | None | A separate Akwa Ibom Poly cut-off for Mechanical Engineering Technology | Never published in any source I found |
If you saw 120 quoted for Akwa Ibom Poly, that was the 2024/2025 figure blogs reported. The 2026/2027 notice says “100 and above”, in line with JAMB’s national minimum. A Mechanical Engineering Technology cut-off has never been published, so anyone quoting one is guessing.
Safe target score for Mechanical Engineering Technology at Akwa Ibom Poly (my advice)
These bands are my own judgement as someone who advises applicants, applied to Mechanical Engineering Technology. Akwa Ibom Poly has not set them, and the school does not publish merit lists with scores.
| Your UTME score | My read for ND Mechanical Engineering Technology at Akwa Ibom Poly |
|---|---|
| Below 100 | Not eligible for any ND course this session |
| 100 to 119 | Eligible, but borderline |
| 120 to 139 | Fair to good chance |
| 140 to 159 | Good chance; 140 is the score I would aim for |
| 160 and above | Strong |
If you are writing the 2027 UTME for Mechanical Engineering Technology, I would aim for 140 or more. Add clean credits in the O’level subjects below. The minimum only gets you screened, and the margin above it is your protection when applicants outnumber places.
Catchment and state of origin
The Akwa Ibom State Government owns Akwa Ibom Poly. State polytechnics often favour indigenes in some way, but this one has published no catchment list or quota for 2026/2027, and it admits candidates from other states too. Unless a notice mentions it, I would not count on or worry about state of origin for Mechanical Engineering Technology.
Akwa Ibom Poly Mechanical Engineering Technology subject combination and O’level requirements
| Requirement | ND Mechanical Engineering Technology |
|---|---|
| UTME subjects | Use of English, Mathematics, Chemistry and Physics, with Technical Drawing allowed in place of Physics (“Physics/Technical Drawing” in the brochure) |
| O’level | Five credits in English Language, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry plus any one of Biology/Agricultural Science, Technical Drawing, Basic Electronics/Basic Electricity, Auto Mechanics, Metal Work, Woodwork, Further Mathematics, Geography and Economics/Commerce |
| English Language | English Language is one of the five credits |
| Brochure remark for Akwa Ibom Poly | None found |
| Exams accepted | WAEC, NECO or NABTEB (named in the school notice) |
| Sittings | Not stated in the reprint; most polytechnics accept two sittings |
My pick for the UTME: English, Mathematics, Chemistry and Physics. Use our JAMB Chemistry syllabus to plan revision.
Your five credits should be built on the core subjects in the table (Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry for this course). If one slot is free, use it for a subject that helps Mechanical Engineering Technology. Then upload that exact result to JAMB CAPS and bring the same one to screening, so the grades match.
Direct Entry and the HND route
No Direct Entry route leads into ND year one. For ND Mechanical Engineering Technology you need the UTME and CAPS. The next level up is separate: after the ND and the one-year industrial attachment you apply to the polytechnic directly for the HND, not through CAPS (see our guide to Akwa Ibom Poly HND admission requirements).
How Akwa Ibom Poly screening works
The school published its 2026/2027 ND cut-off and screening fee in June 2026 and held screening for ND and HND applicants in September. I could not get the Akwa Ibom Poly website to open, so these details come from Myschool’s reprints of the notices.
| Detail | What the 2026/2027 notices say | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Who can apply | Candidates who scored 100 and above in the 2026 UTME | Official |
| O’level | Five credits including English Language and Mathematics, from WAEC, NECO or NABTEB | Official |
| Screening fee | ₦2,000 | Official |
| Screening dates | Wednesday 9 to Friday 11 September 2026, from 9:00 a.m. each day | Official; these dates have passed |
| Format | Candidates reported to their departments with their documents, including the WAEC or NECO statement of result | Official; no computer test was mentioned |
| Portal and closing date | Not shown in the reprint | Check the school website, akwaibompoly.edu.ng |
| 2024/2025 (for comparison) | A blog reported 120 and above, a ₦2,000 form and a 30 August 2024 closing date | Unofficial |
According to the 2026 notice, screening was a document check at department level; it did not mention a written or computer test. My reading, since the school has not published its ranking method, is that your UTME score and your O’level grades, above all in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry for Mechanical Engineering Technology, are what set you apart.
Worked example for an ND Mechanical Engineering Technology applicant
Take Otobong, who scored 146 in English, Mathematics, Chemistry and Physics, with credits in English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Technical Drawing from one sitting.
- Eligibility: 146 minus 100 = 46. Otobong is above the school minimum.
- Against my safe target: 146 minus 140 = 6. That is inside the range I would aim for.
- O’level check: one sitting, with the Mechanical Engineering Technology core subjects covered, so there is no sittings problem.
- CAPS check: Otobong still has to upload the same O’level result to JAMB CAPS, or no offer can be approved.
When two candidates bring equally good documents, the higher UTME score is usually ahead. Otobong at 146 would sit above someone on 110 with the same O’level grades. That is an illustration; Akwa Ibom Poly has not published how it ranks applicants after screening.
Your chances of getting Mechanical Engineering Technology at Akwa Ibom Poly
- Mechanical Engineering Technology is popular but usually less crowded than Electrical or Computer Engineering.
- A score in the 140s with good science credits gives you a solid chance.
- If CAPS offers you Welding and Fabrication or Mechatronics instead, both build on the same workshop base.
- Blogs reported several batches of ND lists at Akwa Ibom Poly in 2025/2026, so not appearing on the first one was not a rejection.
- The 2026/2027 polytechnic deadline set by JAMB is 31 December 2026, so late offers are possible.
How to apply for Mechanical Engineering Technology at Akwa Ibom Poly, step by step
- Get a profile code: send NIN, a space and the 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the line your NIN is linked to.
- Register for the UTME: pick Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic, Ikot Osurua and Mechanical Engineering Technology as JAMB lists it, with the subject combination above.
- Fix your choice if needed: if Akwa Ibom Poly was not your choice, you need a JAMB change of institution before screening. Coming from another course? See JAMB change of course.
- Fill the screening form: watch akwaibompoly.edu.ng for the notice. Then follow its application link, pay the fee (₦2,000 in 2026), complete the form and print the slip.
- O’level upload: visit an accredited JAMB centre to upload the result that carries your Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry credits. JAMB cannot approve an offer while CAPS shows no O’level result.
- Report to the Mechanical Engineering Technology department: in 2026 each candidate reported to the department from 9:00 a.m. with documents. Take your slip, UTME result slip and WAEC or NECO statement of result, and check that it shows your Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry credits.
- Accept on CAPS: sign in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, click Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS, and accept it. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains every status you might see.
- Pay acceptance, then clear: Akwa Ibom Poly has not published its acceptance fee in any source I reached. Only pay through an invoice generated on the school portal, then clear using your printed JAMB admission letter.
Warning
Watch out for “special list” sellers. Admission into Akwa Ibom Poly comes through JAMB CAPS, so anyone asking for money for a slot or a course change is not offering anything real. Genuine offers appear on CAPS, and genuine payments go through a portal invoice generated in your name.
For the earlier stages, our guides cover when JAMB 2027 registration starts and, when results are released, how to check your JAMB result.
Studying Mechanical Engineering Technology at Akwa Ibom Poly
ND Mechanical Engineering Technology belongs to the School of Engineering. The campus is at Ikot Osurua, off the Aba road near Ikot Ekpene in Akwa Ibom State. It trains technicians who design, make, run and repair machines, engines and plant equipment.
What you study
Expect topics like these from the NBTE ND curriculum for Mechanical Engineering Technology. The department itself has not published a course list online.
- Engineering drawing and workshop technology
- Applied mechanics and strength of materials
- Thermodynamics and fluid mechanics
- Machine tools, welding and fabrication basics
- Automobile and plant maintenance
- Engineering mathematics, computing and general studies
Duration and accreditation
Akwa Ibom Poly has not published a timetable for Mechanical Engineering Technology, so plan with the national NBTE pattern. The ND takes two years full time, including a short SIWES attachment. An HND then needs a one-year industrial attachment and, usually, an ND at Lower Credit or above.
Before paying fees, find out the NBTE status of ND Mechanical Engineering Technology: ask the department, or check the NBTE’s list of approved programmes, because I could not confirm it. The school itself is in the NBTE directory as a state polytechnic established in 1991.
Careers after the ND
- Maintenance technician in factories, oil and gas facilities and power plants
- Automobile and heavy-duty plant technician
- Production or workshop supervisor
- Air-conditioning and refrigeration technician
- HND Mechanical Engineering Technology, then COREN registration as a technologist (check current rules)

Mistakes that cost Mechanical Engineering Technology applicants
- No Chemistry credit: it is required even though the course feels like Physics.
- Not knowing about the Technical Drawing option: TD can replace Physics in the UTME, though Physics is still needed at O’level.
- Ignoring workshop safety rules in year one: they are part of continuous assessment in most departments.
- O’level missing on CAPS: JAMB cannot approve an offer without it.
- Missing the departmental screening: in 2026 it ran for three days only, 9 to 11 September.
Akwa Ibom Poly Mechanical Engineering Technology: frequently asked questions
Can I use Technical Drawing instead of Physics for Mechanical Engineering at Akwa Ibom Poly? In the UTME, yes: the brochure line reads “Physics/Technical Drawing”. At O’level you still need a credit in Physics.
What are the O’level requirements for Mechanical Engineering Technology? Five credits in English Language, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry plus one relevant subject such as Technical Drawing, Metal Work or Further Mathematics.
When is Akwa Ibom Poly screening? The 2026/2027 ND and HND screening ran from 9 to 11 September 2026 and has now passed. Watch for the 2027/2028 dates; they are not out yet.
Is 125 enough for Mechanical Engineering Technology at Akwa Ibom Poly? You are eligible, because 125 clears the 100 minimum. It is below the 140 I would aim for in Mechanical Engineering Technology, though, so make sure your O’level result is strong.
Sources and updates
The 100 minimum for polytechnics and the 31 December 2026 closing date for admissions are from the News Agency of Nigeria report of JAMB’s 2026 policy meeting (11 May 2026). The 2025 minimum, also 100, comes from Nairametrics (8 July 2025), and Blueprint and AllAfrica reports match it. Whether Mechanical Engineering Technology is on JAMB’s list comes from the Myschool list of Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic courses. The campus location and the founding year were taken from the NBTE directory and Wikipedia. The older figure of 120 (2024/2025) is from an allschool blog post and is unofficial. The “100 and above” cut-off and its screening fee of ₦2,000 are from the school’s 2026/2027 notice reprinted by Myschool on 27 June 2026. Myschool also reported the 9 to 11 September 2026 screening details (25 August 2026). The worked example and the safe target scores are my own advice. Myschool’s reprint of JAMB’s polytechnic brochure (ND Mechanical Engineering Technology brochure page) is the source for the UTME subjects and O’level requirements. Everything was checked on 3 November 2026, and I will update this page when Akwa Ibom Poly publishes its 2027/2028 notice.
