There is no UTME cut-off mark for Business Education or Accounting at ESCET for 2027/2028 candidates who hold at least four O’level credits. Under the national policy agreed on 11 May 2026, NCE applicants with four credits are exempt from the UTME, though they must still register with JAMB and receive their offer on CAPS. Enugu State College of Education (Technical), Enugu has not published a cut-off for either course.
2027/2028 update: ESCET admission requirements and entry rules usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the rules on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official position (the 2026/2027 national admission policy and JAMB’s June 2026 NCE registration guide) and the college’s 2026/2027 advert as reprinted online. If the 2027/2028 rules change anything, we will update this page.
JAMB’s course list for ESCET shows “Business Education”, while the college’s 2026/2027 advert names “Accounting (Double Major)”. They may be the same department with an accounting option, or two separate courses; the college has not said. This guide covers both: the cut-off position, the O’level subjects, the JAMB NCE costs, a worked example, the steps to apply and the degree routes that follow.
ESCET Business Education and Accounting cut-off mark at a glance
| Item | Position for 2027/2028 planning | Status |
|---|---|---|
| UTME score for NCE entry | Not required with four or more O’level credits | Official national policy, 11 May 2026 |
| JAMB registration | Required, through JAMB’s NCE route | JAMB NCE guide, June 2026 |
| Business Education on JAMB’s ESCET list | Yes | Myschool reprint, checked 29 October 2026 |
| Accounting (Double Major) | Named in the 2026/2027 advert; not on the JAMB list reprint | Advert reprint, 28 July 2026 |
| ESCET cut-off for either course | Not published | No ESCET figure found |
| Structure | NCE after three years, bachelor’s degree after two more | Advert reprint |
| Admission deadline for colleges of education (2026/2027) | 31 December 2026 | Official (JAMB policy meeting) |
Because Accounting is missing from the JAMB list reprint, check that it appears as a course option when you register for NCE at the CBT centre. If it does not, pick Business Education and ask the college whether accounting is studied within it.
ESCET Business Education cut-off mark history
| Session | Figure | What it is | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2027/2028 | No UTME score needed for NCE | Planning position based on the 2026/2027 rules | Unless JAMB changes the policy |
| 2026/2027 | No UTME score needed | Four-credit NCE candidates are exempt from the UTME, register with JAMB and are admitted on CAPS | Official national policy and JAMB’s June 2026 guide |
| 2025/2026 | 100 | JAMB national minimum UTME score for colleges of education | Official national figure (JAMB, July 2025) |
| Any year | None found | An ESCET figure for Business Education or Accounting | Not published |
Reports differ on timing. Nairametrics (11 May 2026) said the exemption starts with the 2027 admission cycle; JAMB’s June 2026 NCE registration guide and Legit (23 July 2026) show it running in 2026 already. For 2027/2028 both mean the same thing: no UTME for NCE if you have four or more credits.
O’level requirements for Business Education and Accounting at ESCET
ESCET has not published its own subject rules for 2026/2027. Here is the national rule, the usual college of education pattern, and what JAMB’s brochure asks for at degree level.
| Requirement | What applies | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Credits | At least four | National policy, 11 May 2026 |
| Compulsory | English Language and Mathematics | Usual college of education pattern |
| Relevant subjects | Two credits relevant to the course | Usual pattern |
| Sittings | Not more than two | Usual pattern |
| Degree-level O’level (for comparison) | Five credits including English, Mathematics and Economics; Commerce, Office Practice or Typewriting may count for NBC holders | JAMB brochure entry for Business Education |
| UTME | Not needed with four credits; JAMB registration still needed | National policy and JAMB guide |
Which subjects make a strong file?
| Your O’level profile | My read for ESCET Business Education or Accounting |
|---|---|
| No credit in English or Mathematics | Not eligible. Resit first |
| English, Mathematics and two science subjects | Meets the count, but weak on relevance |
| English, Mathematics, Economics and Commerce | Good fit for Business Education |
| English, Mathematics, Economics and Financial Accounting (or Book-keeping) | The profile I would aim for, especially for Accounting |
This is my advice as a consultant, not a published ESCET rule. Economics matters more than it looks, because JAMB’s brochure entry for Business Education makes it compulsory at degree level, and ESCET’s programme continues into degree years.
If you also sit the UTME for a degree
The same brochure entry lists Mathematics, Economics and one of Literature in English, History, Government, Geography, Chemistry or Physics for the UTME, with Use of English compulsory. Confirm on the JAMB e-brochure before you register. If you are later recommended for NCE, JAMB suspends your UTME process.
JAMB NCE costs and rules for ESCET applicants
| JAMB NCE item (2026) | What the guide says |
|---|---|
| O’level verification code | ₦1,500 for one sitting; ₦2,000 for two sittings |
| NCE application | ₦3,500 |
| CBT centre (IPRC) charge | ₦700 |
| Who puts you forward | The college proposes candidates on CAPS and the Provost recommends them |
| O’level result | Must be on CAPS; awaiting-result candidates cannot be proposed until upload |
| 2026 UTME candidates with a college of education first | Migrated to NCE for a ₦700 charge |
| Effect of an NCE recommendation | Any UTME or Direct Entry process is suspended |
| 2026 registration opened | 23 July 2026 (Nairametrics) |
ESCET screening for Business Education
The reprinted 2026/2027 advert gives no screening date, form price, test or official portal. Expect the usual college of education process: the college checks your O’level on CAPS against the course rule and the Provost recommends successful candidates. No aptitude test for Business Education or Accounting has been mentioned in any source I checked.
Worked example (illustrative)
Two invented candidates show how I would judge a file.
Adaeze has WAEC in one sitting: English C4, Mathematics C6, Economics B3, Financial Accounting C5, Commerce C4, Biology D7.
- Credits: five. Pass.
- English and Mathematics: both credits. Pass.
- Relevant subjects: Economics, Financial Accounting and Commerce. Strong.
- Degree-level check: five credits with English, Mathematics and Economics, matching the JAMB brochure. Pass.
- Verdict: ideal for Accounting or Business Education. Register early and upload the result to CAPS.
Kelechi has NECO: English C5, Mathematics C6, Civic Education B3, Government C4, Literature D7, Economics E8. He has four credits, but none in Economics or a business subject. He meets the national count, yet I would expect questions on relevance. A quick NECO or WAEC GCE resit in Economics and Commerce fixes that.
How to apply for Business Education or Accounting at ESCET
- Get your JAMB profile code: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the line linked to your NIN.
- Buy your O’level verification code: ₦1,500 for one sitting or ₦2,000 for two (2026 figures).
- Register with JAMB for NCE: choose Enugu State College of Education (Technical), Enugu and the course as it appears on the JAMB system. The 2026 cost was ₦3,500 plus ₦700. If you already picked another school, use a JAMB change of institution.
- Upload your O’level to CAPS: the college cannot propose you without it, and awaiting-result candidates wait until the result is in.
- Complete ESCET’s form if one opens: follow the college’s official notice and pay only through an official invoice.
- Accept on CAPS: at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, open Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS. You had four weeks to accept in 2026/2027. See our JAMB CAPS guide.
- Pay acceptance and register: ESCET has not published its acceptance fee; confirm it with the college.
Warning
JAMB says admissions outside CAPS are illegal. Nobody can sell you an Accounting or Business Education “slot” at ESCET, and no college of education may admit you straight into 100 or 200 level of a degree. Confirm your course is admitting before you pay.
Studying Business Education and Accounting at ESCET
ESCET is a state-owned college of education in Enugu with a technical and vocational focus. Its 2026/2027 advert describes a straight five-year programme: the NCE after three years, a bachelor’s degree after two more, and a practical vocational skill at no extra fee. The advert does not name the degree-awarding body, so ask the college before you rely on the degree years.
What you study
- Accounting: book-keeping, financial accounting, cost accounting and auditing basics.
- Business subjects: commerce, economics, business law, marketing and entrepreneurship.
- Office skills: keyboarding, office practice and computer applications, depending on the option.
- Teaching the subject: methods for teaching Business Studies in junior secondary and commercial subjects in senior secondary.
- Education and general studies: psychology, curriculum, assessment, then teaching practice in a school.
That is the usual NCE pattern for business courses. ESCET’s own course outline is not online.
Accreditation
The NCCE accredited colleges list (checked 29 October 2026) shows ESCET as an open state college of education. Accreditation of Business Education or Accounting specifically is not confirmed, and no approval for the degree years has been published.
Careers and next steps
- Teaching: Business Studies in junior secondary schools and commercial subjects in senior secondary. Teachers register with TRCN.
- Degree by Direct Entry: JAMB’s brochure lists an NCE merit in Business Education Double Major, or merit in two relevant subjects, for Business Education degrees. See our UNN Business Education and ESUT Business Education guides.
- Office and accounts work: book-keeping, administrative and small business roles, and later professional accounting exams if you choose that path.

ESCET Business Education and Accounting: frequently asked questions
What is the ESCET cut-off mark for Accounting in 2027/2028? There is none for candidates with four or more O’level credits, because NCE applicants are exempt from the UTME. ESCET has not published a figure for Accounting or Business Education.
Is Accounting a separate course from Business Education at ESCET? The 2026/2027 advert names Accounting (Double Major), but JAMB’s course list reprint shows only Business Education. Check the course options at your CBT centre and ask the college which one to pick.
Do I need Economics to study Business Education at ESCET? ESCET has not said, but JAMB’s degree-level brochure makes Economics compulsory. Since ESCET’s programme runs into degree years, I would get the credit.
Can I use awaiting result for ESCET Business Education? You can register, but JAMB’s guide says the college cannot propose you on CAPS until your result is uploaded.
