The Amadeus University Biotechnology cut-off mark 2027/2028 candidates should plan with is 150 in the UTME. That is JAMB’s national minimum for universities, fixed at the 2026 policy meeting for 2026/2027 admissions, and Amadeus has not published a separate figure for Biotechnology. Its admission page only says your score must be in line with the national minimum and the faculty’s requirements.
2027/2028 update: Amadeus University cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.
Before you register, check the course name. Biotechnology is on Amadeus’s own programme list as a B.Sc. in the Faculty of Science and Computing. I could not open JAMB’s course list for Amadeus, so look for Biotechnology under Amadeus University, Amizi on the JAMB e-brochure or at the registration centre before you pay. JAMB carries several similar names (Applied Biology and Biotechnology, Plant Science and Biotechnology), so match the exact one listed under Amadeus. If Biotechnology is missing, Microbiology at Amadeus is the nearest alternative there.
Below you will find the figures, a safe target score (my advice), the subjects JAMB requires, how Amadeus admits students, the 2024/2025 charges, and where the programme stands with the NUC now that the university has its Full Operational Licence.
Amadeus University Biotechnology cut-off mark at a glance

Amadeus University Biotechnology cut-off history
| Session | Figure | What it is | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2026/2027 | 150 | JAMB national minimum for universities; Amadeus declared no institutional figure | Official (JAMB, via NAN, 11 May 2026) |
| 2025/2026 | 150 | JAMB national minimum for universities | Widely reported; not re-checked against a JAMB document for this page |
| 2025/2026 | 200 (MBBS) and 180 (Pharmacy) | Figures the Vice-Chancellor gave for the two new professional courses | Reported by The Sun, 20 November 2025; none given for Biotechnology |
Amadeus began teaching in September 2024, so 2026/2027 is only its third admission round. In none of them did it publish a score for Biotechnology. When JAMB released the institution-by-institution list of 2026 minimums, Amadeus was not on it, which means the university did not declare a figure above JAMB’s floor at that meeting. So the honest answer for Biotechnology is 150, with no departmental line on top that anyone outside the admissions office can see.
Safe target score for Biotechnology at Amadeus (my advice)
This is my judgement as an admissions adviser. Amadeus has not issued it, and it may change once the university has more applicants than places.
| Your UTME score | My read for Amadeus Biotechnology |
|---|---|
| Below 150 | Not eligible for any Amadeus degree course this cycle |
| 150 to 169 | Eligible. A place is realistic if your O’level is complete and you apply early |
| 170 to 199 | Comfortable for a new private university |
| 200 and above | Strong. Also worth asking admissions about the scholarships Amadeus mentions |
For Biotechnology I would aim for at least 170 in the 2027 UTME, with credits or better in English, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and Physics. Candidates who missed Medicine or Pharmacy sometimes move into the life sciences, so a little headroom above 150 is sensible.
UTME subject combination and O’level for Amadeus Biotechnology
| Requirement | Biotechnology (JAMB brochure) |
|---|---|
| UTME subjects | Use of English, Biology, Chemistry, plus any other science subject |
| O’level | Five credits: English Language, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and Physics |
| Exams accepted | WAEC (WASSCE), NECO or GCE, per Amadeus’s admission page |
| Sittings | Not stated by Amadeus; one sitting is safest |
| Direct Entry | Two A-level passes: Biology, Botany or Zoology, plus Chemistry or Physics |
| Amadeus remark in the brochure | None |
JAMB’s general rule for Biotechnology is Biology, Chemistry and any other science subject. Some blogs narrow the third subject to Physics or Mathematics, but the brochure is wider. I would still take Physics, because the brochure also wants a Physics credit at O’level, and a candidate who sat Physics in both exams has nothing to explain. The remarks on the brochure page name NUN, MAUTECH, MCU, FUTA, FUD and FUTO. None of them is Amadeus.
Amadeus’s own admission page adds its general rule: a WASSCE, NECO or GCE result with five credits, including English Language and Mathematics plus three other subjects relevant to the course. It does not say whether two sittings are allowed. Examkits reported in July 2025 that one or two sittings were accepted for 2025/2026, but I would still treat one sitting as the safe choice and ask admissions before relying on a combined result.
Direct Entry into Biotechnology
JAMB’s brochure lets Direct Entry candidates in with two A-level passes: Biology, Botany or Zoology, together with Chemistry or Physics. Several universities add ND or NCE routes in their own remarks, but Amadeus has no remark, and it has not published its own Direct Entry rules or the level DE students join at. Ask admissions before you buy a DE form.
How Amadeus screens Biotechnology applicants
Amadeus has not published a Post-UTME test, a screening fee or an aggregate formula. Here is what its admission page and the reports I found do say.
| Detail | What is known |
|---|---|
| Where to apply | admissions.amadeus.edu.ng, after choosing Amadeus on the JAMB portal (Amadeus admission page) |
| Score rule | In line with the national minimum and faculty requirements; no figure given |
| What else counts | Academic record first, with character, extracurricular and social activities also considered (Amadeus admission page) |
| Interview | A 2024 Studentship report says applicants are interviewed; Amadeus’s current page does not mention it |
| Age | The same 2024 report says applicants should be 16 or older when the course starts; unconfirmed |
| Form fee | Not published |
| Change of institution | Accepted in 2025/2026, according to the Vice-Chancellor (The Sun, 20 November 2025) |
Worked example (illustrative)
With no published formula, the useful sum is the gap between your score, the 150 floor and the target above. These two candidates are invented to show the check.
Chiamaka scored 184 and has B3 in English, C4 in Mathematics, B2 in Biology, B3 in Chemistry and C5 in Physics from one sitting.
- Eligibility: 184 minus 150 = 34. She clears the minimum by 34 marks.
- Against my target: 184 is above the 170 I suggest.
- Subjects: she sat Biology, Chemistry and Physics with English. That matches the brochure.
- O’level: all five brochure subjects at credit, one sitting, uploaded to CAPS. Nothing rules her out.
Tobe scored 165 with credits in English, Mathematics, Biology and Chemistry, but he did not sit Physics in WAEC. 165 minus 150 = 15, so his score qualifies. His O’level is one subject short of the brochure’s list. He should ask Amadeus whether it will accept another science, or sit Physics in the next exam.
Some blogs print a 50:50 aggregate for every private university. Amadeus has published nothing of the kind, so do not build your plans on a calculation it does not use.
Your chances of admission into Biotechnology at Amadeus
Amadeus only started admitting in 2024, and nothing it has published suggests the course is oversubscribed. For a candidate with 150 or more and a complete five-science O’level, the risks that remain are mostly paperwork and money.
- In your favour: the university is young, private and still building numbers, and its stated minimum is the national floor.
- Against you: late applications, a missing O’level subject, or a JAMB subject combination that does not match the course.
- The real cost: fees. Plan the money before you plan the score (see the fees section below).
Biotechnology or Microbiology at Amadeus?
Amadeus runs both in the Faculty of Science and Computing, and both start from Biology and Chemistry, so the decision is about direction.
Microbiology studies micro-organisms themselves: bacteria, fungi, viruses, how they cause disease and how they behave in food, water and soil. Biotechnology uses living cells and their molecules to make or improve things: fermentation products, diagnostics, crops, enzymes and drugs, with more genetics and molecular biology. If laboratory diagnosis attracts you, also look at Medical Laboratory Science, which leads to a professional licence.
How to apply for Biotechnology at Amadeus, step by step
- Get your JAMB profile code: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN.
- Register the UTME correctly: choose Biotechnology with Use of English, Biology, Chemistry and a third science subject (Physics is my pick), and pick Amadeus University, Amizi as your institution. If you chose another school, do a JAMB change of institution before applying.
- Upload your O’level to CAPS: do it at a JAMB-accredited centre. Admission cannot go through on CAPS without it, and an awaiting-result candidate has to come back once the result is out.
- Apply to Amadeus: fill the form at admissions.amadeus.edu.ng with your JAMB registration number and upload what it asks for.
- Attend any interview or screening: the university may call you. Keep your phone and email active.
- Accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, choose Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS. JAMB gives four weeks to accept an offer, and our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status.
- Pay acceptance and register: the acceptance fee was ₦200,000 in 2024/2025. Confirm the current amount with admissions before you pay.
JAMB set 30 November 2026 as the 2026/2027 admission deadline for private universities. In the 2025/2026 round, Amadeus closed admissions on 30 November 2025, so it works up to JAMB’s date.
Warning
Amadeus lists its admission contacts on its website: +234 708 063 1863, toll-free +234 800 123 5100, WhatsApp +234 908 796 6353 and admissions@amadeus.edu.ng. Every real offer appears on JAMB CAPS. Do not pay anyone who promises a place outside CAPS or outside the university’s own channels.
Amadeus University fees for Biotechnology students
Amadeus has not put tuition figures in any page I could open. The newest charges I found are the 2024/2025 fresh-student charges that Myschool reprinted from the university on 21 June 2024. They exclude tuition.
| Charge (2024/2025) | Amount |
|---|---|
| Acceptance fee (non-refundable) | ₦200,000 |
| Medical insurance | ₦85,000 |
| Library and ICT | ₦120,000 |
| Laboratory and workshops | ₦50,000 |
| Accommodation (bed space in a two-person room) | ₦900,000 |
| Total before tuition | ₦1,355,000 |
These are two sessions old, so expect changes. Amadeus says it offers full and partial scholarships, but it had not published the conditions in that notice. Ask about both when you apply.
Studying Biotechnology at Amadeus University
Biotechnology sits in the Faculty of Science and Computing at Amadeus, alongside Microbiology and Forensic Science on the science side and the computing degrees. The campus is at Amizi in Ikwuano Local Government Area, Abia State. Through the UTME the B.Sc. normally runs four years in Nigeria, including a period of industrial training.
What you study
- Early years: general biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics and the general studies every Nigerian student takes.
- Core biotechnology: biochemistry, cell biology, genetics, microbiology and molecular biology.
- Later years: genetic engineering, fermentation and industrial biotechnology, plant and animal biotechnology, bioinformatics, biosafety, plus a research project.
- Industrial training: a placement in a laboratory, research institute or manufacturing firm under SIWES.
Is Amadeus Biotechnology accredited?
Here is the record as the university and the NUC show it. Amadeus received its NUC licence in June 2023. The NUC completed a resource verification in April 2024, and teaching began in September 2024 with 19 degree programmes, Biotechnology among them. After a second resource verification on 1 to 3 March 2026, the NUC granted Amadeus a Full Operational Licence on 23 September 2026.
Programme accreditation is a separate step. Amadeus does not appear in the NUC’s Accreditation Results 1990 to 2025, and I found no NUC accreditation report for Biotechnology. The NUC normally accredits a programme once its first students reach the later years, and Amadeus’s third academic session only starts in October 2026. So the accurate position for Biotechnology is approved to run, accreditation not yet published. Ask admissions for the latest position before you accept.
Careers after the degree

Mistakes that cost Biotechnology applicants an Amadeus place
- Treating 150 as a guarantee: it lets you apply. Amadeus still checks your O’level and may interview you.
- Skipping Physics at O’level: the brochure lists it among the five credits.
- Picking the wrong Biotechnology name on JAMB: JAMB has several similar courses. Choose the one listed under Amadeus.
- O’level not on CAPS: admission cannot be processed without it.
- Accepting on CAPS and stopping there: acceptance fee and registration at Amadeus are separate steps.
- Applying after the deadline: Amadeus closed its 2025/2026 admissions on 30 November 2025.
If you are trying again in 2027, read when JAMB 2027 registration starts and JAMB change of course.
