ABSU Management Cut-Off Mark 2027/2028 and Admission Requirements

ABSU’s minimum for Management is 150 in the UTME. See a safe target score, the JAMB subjects, the six subjects your extra O’level credits must come from, Direct Entry, and the screening and CAPS steps.

The ABSU Management cut off mark is 150 in the UTME. That is the minimum Abia State University (ABSU) set for every regular degree course in its 2026/2027 screening notice, for candidates who chose ABSU as first or second choice. ABSU did not publish a separate figure for Management, so 150 gets you into screening and your O’level grades and ranking do the rest.

2027/2028 update: ABSU cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.

Management is often confused with Business Administration, and ABSU offers both. The JAMB requirements differ in small but real ways: Management is relaxed about the fourth UTME subject and strict about the last two O’level credits. Below are the official figures, a safe target score, the exact subjects, the Direct Entry rules, the screening steps and what the degree leads to.

ABSU’s 2026/2027 notice gave one figure for all courses. Any page that prints an official ABSU Management cut-off for any year is quoting a figure ABSU never released. The practical cut-off is the score of the last candidate admitted each year, and ABSU does not publish it.

Safe target score for Management at ABSU (my advice)

Management tends to draw fewer applicants than Accountancy and Business Administration at state universities, partly because many candidates have not heard of it as a separate course. You are still ranked against the others who chose it. This table is my advice, not an ABSU rule.

Your UTME scoreMy read for ABSU Management
Below 150Not eligible for screening
150 to 164Eligible; your O’level grades will decide most of it
165 to 184A reasonable chance with clean credits
185 and aboveStrong

I would aim for at least 170. The bigger risk for Management is the O’level list, so check that before you worry about the score.

JAMB subject combination and O’level for Management at ABSU

RequirementWhat the JAMB brochure says
UTMEUse of English, Mathematics, Economics and one other subject
O’levelFive credits: English Language, Mathematics, Economics, plus any two of Accounting, Business Methods, Commerce, Government, Geography and Statistics
ABSU remark on UTME, O’level or Direct EntryNone (the only remarks on the page are for AUN and EBSU)
Exams acceptedWAEC, NECO, NABTEB

For the UTME, write Use of English, Mathematics, Economics and Government, or Commerce. The brochure says “one other subject” without limiting it, so even a science subject is allowed on paper. I still prefer a commercial or social science subject, because it matches what the department teaches and it keeps your options open if you later want to switch to Business Administration, which does require a social science subject.

For O’level, Management is stricter. Besides English, Mathematics and Economics, your two remaining credits must come from Accounting, Business Methods, Commerce, Government, Geography or Statistics. Credits in Biology, Civic Education or Literature do not count towards those two. Check your results against that list before you upload to CAPS.

Which JAMB course name to pick

ABSU’s list on Myschool’s reprint of the JAMB brochure shows the course simply as “Management”. Choose that name under Abia State University when you register; do not confuse it with Business Administration or Marketing, which are separate courses on the same list.

Direct Entry

The Direct Entry line asks for two A-level passes chosen from Economics, Accounts, Business Management, Government, Geography or Statistics. The brochure has no ABSU remark for Management, so it does not confirm that ABSU takes ND or HND holders for this course. The 2026/2027 notice adds that Direct Entry candidates need the basic five O’level credits. Ask the admissions office before you buy the Direct Entry form.

How ABSU screens Management applicants

The 2026/2027 notice was signed by the Registrar, Dr. Acho Elendu. I could not open the original on the ABSU website, so the details below come from two reprints that agree: Osilight (posted 9 June 2026) and Myschool (8 June 2026).

DetailWhat the 2026/2027 notice said
Who could applyCandidates who chose ABSU as first or second choice, or who changed to ABSU, and scored 150 or more in the UTME
Direct EntryBasic five O’level credit passes under ABSU’s entry requirements
Where to registerOnline at www.abiastateuniversity.edu.ng
What to uploadUTME result, O’level result and degree certificate where applicable, on the ABSU portal (www.portal.abiastateuniversity.edu.ng) and the JAMB portal
Fee₦2,000 by e-payment through the banks named in the notice, or by debit card
Missing the screeningCandidates who do not register “will not be considered for admission”
Written testNot mentioned; the notice describes online document screening
Closing dateNot stated in the reprints

The bank names came out garbled in the reprint, so follow the payment options shown on the ABSU portal itself rather than a list copied from a blog.

Worked example for Management candidates

ABSU has not published an aggregate formula, and the 2026/2027 notice describes document screening without a test. To show how your O’level can change your position, I use an illustrative method common at Nigerian universities: UTME score divided by 8 (up to 50 points) plus O’level points for five relevant subjects, where A1 = 10, B2 = 9, B3 = 8, C4 = 7, C5 = 6 and C6 = 5 (up to 50 points). This is my example, not ABSU’s formula.

  1. Amarachi scored 163 with B3 in English, C4 in Mathematics, B2 in Economics, B3 in Commerce, B3 in Government from one sitting. UTME points: 163 ÷ 8 = 20.375. O’level points: 8 + 7 + 9 + 8 + 8 = 40. Illustrative total: 60.375.
  2. Ikenna scored 181 with C6 in English, C6 in Mathematics, C5 in Economics, C6 in Financial Accounting, C5 in Geography across two sittings. UTME points: 181 ÷ 8 = 22.625. O’level points: 5 + 5 + 6 + 5 + 6 = 27. Illustrative total: 49.625.
  3. The result: Amarachi leads by 10.75 points even though Ikenna scored 18 marks more in the UTME.

If Ikenna’s fifth credit had been Civic Education instead of Geography, he would not meet the Management O’level list at all, whatever his total.

How to apply for Management at ABSU, step by step

  1. Get a JAMB profile code: text NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the SIM linked to that NIN. The code arrives by SMS.
  2. Register the UTME with the right subjects: choose Management at Abia State University with Use of English, Mathematics, Economics and one other subject, ideally Government or Commerce. ABSU accepted first and second choice candidates in 2026/2027, but first choice is still the cleaner position. To move ABSU up later, use a JAMB change of institution.
  3. Upload your O’level to CAPS: at an accredited JAMB CBT centre, once your result is out. Make sure the upload includes English, Mathematics, Economics and two credits from Accounting, Business Methods, Commerce, Government, Geography or Statistics.
  4. Register for ABSU screening: when the notice is out, go to www.abiastateuniversity.edu.ng, pay the screening fee (₦2,000 in 2026/2027) and upload your UTME result and O’level on the ABSU portal.
  5. Keep your receipts: save the payment receipt and the printout of your completed screening form. You may need both at clearance.
  6. Check your status: watch the ABSU portal and your JAMB CAPS page. ABSU offers show on CAPS before anything else.
  7. Accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, choose Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS, and accept. JAMB gives four weeks. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status.
  8. Pay acceptance and clear: ABSU’s acceptance and school fees were not in any source I reached. Pay only the amount on your ABSU portal invoice.

Warning

Every genuine ABSU offer appears on JAMB CAPS, and JAMB said in May 2026 that admission outside CAPS is illegal. Anyone who asks for money to “process” a Management place is not acting for ABSU. Pay only through the ABSU portal.

JAMB told public universities to finish 2026/2027 admissions by 31 October 2026 (private universities have until 30 November and other institutions until 31 December 2026). If you applied this year, check CAPS every few days rather than waiting for a printed list.

Management at ABSU: the programme

Management sits in ABSU’s College of Business Administration on the main campus at Uturu, in Isuikwuato LGA. ABSU began in 1981 as Imo State University and took its present name after Abia State was created in 1991.

What you study

ABSU has not published a course outline that I could reach. Management degrees in Nigeria usually cover:

  • Management theory: principles of management, organisation theory and organisational behaviour.
  • People: human resource management, industrial relations and leadership.
  • Operations and strategy: production and operations management, project management and strategic management.
  • Support subjects: economics, accounting, business statistics, business law and management information systems.
  • Practical work: industrial training (SIWES) and a final-year research project.

Accreditation, degree and duration

NUC’s published accreditation results (1990 to 2025) list ABSU Management with full accreditation as its latest result, valid to 2026, so the programme is due for its next NUC visit around now. The degree title and duration were not on any ABSU page I could open; B.Sc Management in Nigeria usually runs four years for UTME entrants.

Careers

  • Management trainee or administrative officer in private firms and public agencies.
  • Human resources and recruitment roles.
  • Operations, logistics and project coordination roles.
  • Starting and running a business.
  • Professional study in human resources or project management.
  • An MBA or M.Sc in management after some work experience.

If you are writing in 2027, read when JAMB 2027 registration starts, and when results are out, see how to check your JAMB result. If your score or subjects do not fit, our JAMB change of course guide shows how to switch before admission closes.

Mistakes that cost Management applicants an ABSU place

  • The wrong two extra O’level credits: they must come from the six subjects the brochure names.
  • No Economics credit: it is one of the three fixed credits.
  • Registering Business Administration by mistake: they are separate courses with separate rules.
  • Not registering for screening: the notice says such candidates will not be considered.
  • Missing the CAPS window: JAMB’s 2026 rule gives four weeks to accept.

ABSU Management: frequently asked questions

What JAMB subjects do I need for Management in ABSU? Use of English, Mathematics, Economics and one other subject. The brochure does not restrict the fourth subject, but Government or Commerce fits the course best.

What O’level subjects does ABSU need for Management? Five credits: English Language, Mathematics, Economics and two of Accounting, Business Methods, Commerce, Government, Geography and Statistics.

Is 160 enough for Management in ABSU? 160 clears the 150 minimum, so you will be screened. Management is usually less crowded than Accountancy or Business Administration, so 160 with strong credits is workable, but I would aim for 170 or more.

Does ABSU accept HND for Management Direct Entry? The JAMB brochure has no ABSU remark for Management, so it does not confirm ND or HND entry. The general Direct Entry rule is two A-level passes, so ask ABSU’s admissions office before you buy a Direct Entry form with a diploma.

Sources and updates

The 150 minimum, the first and second choice rule, the Direct Entry line, the ₦2,000 fee, the registration and upload steps and the warning about candidates who fail to register come from ABSU’s 2026/2027 screening notice signed by the Registrar, Dr. Acho Elendu, as reprinted by Osilight (9 June 2026) and Myschool (8 June 2026); I could not open the original on the ABSU website. The national minimum of 150, the four-week CAPS window and the warning on admissions outside CAPS come from the News Agency of Nigeria (11 May 2026). The 31 October 2026 deadline for public universities comes from Legit (28 September 2026). The UTME, O’level and Direct Entry rules come from Myschool’s reprint of the JAMB brochure entry for Management, which ABSU’s JAMB course list links to; the comparison rows come from the brochure entries for Business Administration, Accountancy and Banking and Finance. Campus and history details come from Wikipedia. The safe target table and the worked example are my own advice and illustration. The accreditation status comes from NUC’s accreditation results, 1990 to 2025 publication. ABSU’s fees, the degree title and duration were not published in any source I reached. Checked on 29 October 2026; this page will be updated if ABSU publishes a departmental cut-off or new requirements.
