ABSU Cut-Off Mark for Artificial Intelligence 2027/2028: Requirements, Subject Combination and JAMB Status

ABSU has NUC approval for a B.Sc in Artificial Intelligence, but the course is not yet on its JAMB list. See the 150 minimum, a safe target, likely JAMB subjects and alternatives.

ABSU has no cut off mark for Artificial Intelligence yet. NUC approved a B.Sc in Artificial Intelligence at Abia State University (ABSU) from the 2026/2027 session, but the course was not on ABSU’s JAMB course list when I checked on 29 October 2026. Once ABSU lists it, the minimum that applies is 150 in the UTME, the figure ABSU used for every regular degree course in 2026/2027.

2027/2028 update: ABSU cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.

Artificial Intelligence is the newest of ABSU’s three computing approvals, and there is less public detail on it than on the others. This page sets out what is confirmed, the closest JAMB subject line I could find, my safe target, what to register at ABSU in the meantime, and how screening works. I would write Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry, aim for 200, and keep Computer Science or Mathematics at ABSU as your registered course until AI appears on JAMB.

Does ABSU offer Artificial Intelligence?

The course is approved but not yet open through JAMB. The Whistler reported on 29 September 2026, from a statement by ABSU’s Media Unit, that NUC approved ten ABSU programmes effective from the 2026/2027 session. B.Sc Artificial Intelligence is one of them; Software Engineering and Cyber Security are two others. The statement asked candidates to wait for guidelines from the Admissions Office.

On 29 October 2026, Myschool’s reprint of JAMB’s ABSU course list had 75 entries and no Artificial Intelligence. ABSU has not said which college will run the course or when the first set will be admitted.

If you are writing the 2027 UTME, search ABSU’s list on the JAMB e-brochure when you register. Choose Artificial Intelligence if it is there. If not, register a listed course from the table further down and follow ABSU’s Admissions Office for news.

ABSU has never admitted an Artificial Intelligence class through JAMB, so any “previous cut-off” for the course at ABSU is invented. The general 150 is the only ABSU figure that applies.

Safe target score for Artificial Intelligence at ABSU (my advice)

AI attracts the same strong science candidates who apply for Computer Science, and a first intake is usually small. I expect the course to be competitive from its first year at ABSU.

I would aim for 200 or more. It is the score I also recommend for ABSU Computer Science, so it protects you whichever course you end up registered for. The table below is my advice, not ABSU policy.

Your UTME scoreMy read if ABSU opens the course
Below 150Not eligible for ABSU screening
150 to 179Eligible; look hard at Mathematics or Statistics as your registered course
180 to 199A fair chance with strong O’level grades
200 to 219Good
220 and aboveStrong

JAMB subject combination and O’level for Artificial Intelligence

I could not find a university entry named simply Artificial Intelligence on Myschool’s reprint of the JAMB brochure. The closest is Robotics (Artificial Intelligence) under Sciences, and its line, shown below, is identical to Computer Science, Software Engineering and Cyber Security. Treat it as JAMB’s usual combination for AI and confirm on the e-brochure once ABSU lists the course.

RequirementWhat the JAMB brochure says
Brochure entry usedClosest JAMB brochure entry: Robotics (Artificial Intelligence), Myschool reprint
UTMEUse of English, Mathematics, Physics and one of Biology, Chemistry, Agricultural Science, Economics or Geography
O’levelFive credits: English Language, Mathematics, Physics and two other science subjects
Direct EntryTwo A-level passes in science subjects including Mathematics, or NCE merit in Mathematics and one other science or social science subject
ABSU-specific remarksNone. ABSU is not named anywhere on the entry
Other schools named in remarksNone on the Robotics (Artificial Intelligence) entry

Register Use of English, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. Mathematics carries an AI degree, so a strong score there helps you more than in most courses. Chemistry is not strictly required by the line above, but it is the safest fourth subject because it also fits Computer Engineering and Electrical / Electronics Engineering at ABSU.

For O’level, get five credits in English, Mathematics, Physics and two other sciences. Further Mathematics is a good choice for one of the two if your school offers it, because AI leans on calculus, linear algebra and probability, though no source says ABSU will require it.

If ABSU lists the course under a different name, such as Computer Science (Artificial Intelligence), the subject line may change. Read the entry that ABSU’s list actually links to before you register.

Direct Entry

The general Direct Entry line for the closest entry accepts two A-level passes in science subjects including Mathematics, or NCE merit in Mathematics and one other science or social science subject. ABSU has not said whether its new course will take Direct Entry students in its early years. Ask the Admissions Office before buying a Direct Entry form.

What to register at ABSU while Artificial Intelligence is not on JAMB

AI sits where computing and mathematics meet, so the useful ABSU alternatives come from both sides. These are on ABSU’s JAMB list now; the NUC column is the latest result in NUC’s 1990 to 2025 publication.

Course on ABSU’s JAMB listUTME subjectsLatest NUC resultOur guide
Computer ScienceUse of English, Mathematics, Physics and one of Biology, Chemistry, Agricultural Science, Economics or GeographyInterim is the latest result listed (maturity 2023, no later result)ABSU Computer Science
MathematicsUse of English, Mathematics and two of Physics, Chemistry and Economics or GeographyFull, maturity 2028ABSU Mathematics
StatisticsNot shown on Myschool’s reprint; confirm on the e-brochureFull, maturity 2028ABSU Statistics
Computer EngineeringUse of English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry (O’level also needs Further Mathematics)Full, maturity 2028ABSU Computer Engineering

Computer Science is closest in content and shares the subject line, but its latest NUC result is interim with a 2023 maturity date and no later result listed, so ask the department about its current standing. Mathematics and Statistics both show full accreditation to 2028 and build the probability, statistics and linear algebra that machine learning runs on. Many people working in AI came from those degrees.

ABSU has not announced any route for students already in Computer Science or Mathematics to move into AI. Choose the course you would be happy to finish.

How ABSU screens applicants

ABSU’s 2026/2027 notice was signed by the Registrar, Dr. Acho Elendu. I could not open the original on the ABSU website, so the details below come from two reprints that agree: Osilight (posted 9 June 2026) and Myschool (8 June 2026). They cover every regular degree course, and they are what a Artificial Intelligence candidate should expect once the course is open to UTME applicants.

DetailWhat the 2026/2027 notice said
Who could applyCandidates who chose ABSU as first or second choice, or who changed to ABSU, and scored 150 or more in the UTME
Direct EntryBasic five O’level credit passes under ABSU’s entry requirements
Where to registerOnline at www.abiastateuniversity.edu.ng
What to uploadUTME result, O’level result and degree certificate where applicable, on the ABSU portal (www.portal.abiastateuniversity.edu.ng) and the JAMB portal
Fee₦2,000 by e-payment through the banks named in the notice, or by debit card
Missing the screeningCandidates who do not register “will not be considered for admission”
Written testNot mentioned; the notice describes online document screening
Closing dateNot stated in the reprints

The bank names came out garbled in the reprint, so follow the payment options on the ABSU portal itself. Because the notice describes no written test, your UTME score and your O’level grades are what ABSU ranks you on.

Worked example (illustrative)

ABSU has not published an aggregate formula. To show how O’level grades can change your position, I use a method common at Nigerian universities: UTME score divided by 8 (up to 50 points) plus O’level points for five relevant subjects (English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology), where A1 = 10, B2 = 9, B3 = 8, C4 = 7, C5 = 6 and C6 = 5. This is my illustration, not ABSU’s formula.

  1. Ifeoma scored 204 with B3 in English, A1 in Mathematics, B2 in Physics, B3 in Chemistry and B3 in Biology. UTME points: 204 ÷ 8 = 25.5. O’level points: 8 + 10 + 9 + 8 + 8 = 43. Illustrative total: 68.5.
  2. Tochukwu scored 229 with C5 in English, C5 in Mathematics, C5 in Physics, C6 in Chemistry and C6 in Biology. UTME points: 229 ÷ 8 = 28.625. O’level points: 6 + 6 + 6 + 5 + 5 = 28. Illustrative total: 56.625.
  3. The result: Ifeoma leads by 11.875 points. Tochukwu scored 25 more marks in the UTME and still trails, because weaker O’level grades cost more than the UTME gap gave. In a new course with few places, a gap like that can decide the offer.

How to apply for Artificial Intelligence or its alternative at ABSU, step by step

  1. Get a JAMB profile code: text NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the SIM linked to that NIN. The code arrives by SMS.
  2. Check ABSU’s course list before you pay for registration: on the JAMB e-brochure, open Abia State University and look for Artificial Intelligence. If it is there, choose it. If not, choose Computer Science or Mathematics with the same four subjects. Read when JAMB 2027 registration starts so you are ready early.
  3. Write Use of English, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry: this set fits the brochure line for Artificial Intelligence and every ABSU alternative in the table above.
  4. Put ABSU as first choice if you can: ABSU accepted first and second choice candidates in 2026/2027, but first choice is the cleaner position. To move ABSU up later, use a JAMB change of institution.
  5. Upload your O’level to CAPS: at an accredited JAMB CBT centre, once your result is out. Make sure English, Mathematics, Physics and two other science subjects are on it.
  6. Register for ABSU screening: when the notice is out, go to www.abiastateuniversity.edu.ng, pay the screening fee (₦2,000 in 2026/2027) and upload your UTME and O’level results on the ABSU portal. Save the receipt and the printout.
  7. Accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, choose Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS, and accept. JAMB gives four weeks. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status.
  8. Pay acceptance and clear: ABSU’s acceptance and school fees were not in any source I reached. Pay only the amount on your ABSU portal invoice.

Warning

Every genuine ABSU offer appears on JAMB CAPS, and JAMB said in May 2026 that admission outside CAPS is illegal. Anyone selling a “special list” or a guaranteed place in Artificial Intelligence at ABSU is not acting for the university. Pay only through the ABSU portal.

For the current cycle, JAMB kept 31 October 2026 as the date public universities such as ABSU should finish 2026/2027 admissions (Nairametrics, 28 September 2026). Candidates already in that cycle should watch CAPS rather than wait for a printed list.

Artificial Intelligence at ABSU: what the degree involves

ABSU has not said where Artificial Intelligence will sit. Its science and computing departments are on the main campus at Uturu, Isuikwuato LGA. ABSU was founded in 1981 as Imo State University and took its present name when Abia State was created in 1991.

What you study

No ABSU curriculum has been published. B.Sc Artificial Intelligence programmes in Nigeria generally include:

  • Mathematics: calculus, linear algebra, probability and statistics, and optimisation.
  • Computing: programming (Python is common), data structures, algorithms and databases.
  • AI core: machine learning, neural networks and deep learning, knowledge representation and search.
  • Applications: computer vision, natural language processing, robotics and data analytics.
  • Ethics and practice: responsible AI, SIWES industrial training and a final-year project.

Accreditation, degree title and duration

NUC approval allows ABSU to begin the course. Accreditation is a later NUC visit once the course is running, so ABSU Artificial Intelligence has no accreditation result and is absent from NUC’s 1990 to 2025 results. That is normal for a course with no students yet. ABSU’s announcement names the degree B.Sc Artificial Intelligence. ABSU has not confirmed the duration; four years is usual for UTME entrants.

Careers

  • Machine learning engineer or data scientist.
  • Data analyst and business intelligence roles.
  • Software developer building AI features.
  • Research assistant roles leading to postgraduate study.
  • AI roles in fintech, health technology and telecoms.

Check when JAMB 2027 registration starts so you can look at ABSU’s list early, and use our JAMB Chemistry syllabus for your fourth subject. If AI is added after you register, our JAMB change of course guide explains the switch.

Mistakes Artificial Intelligence applicants make with ABSU

  • Treating approval as admission: the course must be on ABSU’s JAMB list before you can be offered it.
  • Under-preparing Mathematics: it carries the whole degree.
  • Dropping Physics: the line makes it compulsory in the UTME and at O’level.
  • Trusting blog cut-offs: ABSU has not set one for AI.
  • Skipping ABSU screening: unregistered candidates are not considered.
  • Missing the four-week CAPS window.

ABSU Artificial Intelligence: frequently asked questions

Does ABSU offer Artificial Intelligence as a course? NUC approved a B.Sc in Artificial Intelligence at ABSU from 2026/2027, according to the university’s Media Unit, but it was not on ABSU’s JAMB list on 29 October 2026.

What is the JAMB subject combination for Artificial Intelligence? The closest brochure entry asks for Use of English, Mathematics, Physics and one of Biology, Chemistry, Agricultural Science, Economics or Geography. I would choose Chemistry.

Is 200 a good score for Artificial Intelligence at ABSU? Yes, by my estimate. It is well above the 150 minimum and puts you in a good position, especially with strong O’level grades from one sitting.

Is Artificial Intelligence the same as Computer Science? No. They share the first year or two, but an AI degree spends far more time on mathematics, statistics and machine learning, while Computer Science covers computing more broadly.

Sources and updates

The NUC approval and the advice to wait for Admissions Office guidelines come from The Whistler (29 September 2026), which reported a statement from ABSU’s Media Unit. I checked ABSU’s JAMB course list on Myschool’s reprint of the JAMB brochure on 29 October 2026. The 150 minimum, the first and second choice rule, the Direct Entry line, the ₦2,000 fee, the upload steps and the warning about candidates who fail to register come from ABSU’s 2026/2027 screening notice signed by the Registrar, Dr. Acho Elendu, as reprinted by Osilight (9 June 2026) and Myschool (8 June 2026); I could not open the original on the ABSU website. The national minimum of 150, the four-week CAPS window and the warning on admissions outside CAPS come from the News Agency of Nigeria (11 May 2026), and the 31 October 2026 deadline for public universities from Nairametrics (28 September 2026). The UTME, O’level and Direct Entry line comes from Myschool’s reprint of the JAMB brochure entry for Robotics (Artificial Intelligence), the closest entry I could find. ABSU’s accreditation results come from NUC’s accreditation results, 1990 to 2025 publication. The safe target table and the worked example are my own advice and illustration. ABSU has not published the department, college, degree title, duration, fees or intake date for Artificial Intelligence. Checked on 29 October 2026; this page will be updated when ABSU’s Admissions Office releases guidelines or the course appears on JAMB.
