Nigerian British University has not published a cut-off mark for Peace and Conflict Resolution for 2027/2028, and the course is missing from its 2026/2027 admission list. NBU’s undergraduate admissions page names 18 programmes with their minimum UTME scores; Peace and Conflict Resolution is not one of them. The nearest course NBU is admitting into is International Relations & Diplomacy, at 160.
2027/2028 update: NBU’s programme list and cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the position on this page is what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. It comes from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice adds this course or changes anything, we will update this page.
A course directory updated in February 2026 still lists Peace and Conflict Resolution among NBU’s 20 courses, and Wikipedia names a Department of Peace and Conflict Resolution, citing 2023 directory sites. I could not open JAMB’s own course list for NBU, so the course may still be on JAMB’s list even though NBU is not advertising it.
Below: what each source says, why registering the course with NBU is risky, how to switch to International Relations at NBU without wasting your UTME subjects, JAMB’s requirements and other Abia options.
Does NBU offer Peace and Conflict Resolution in 2027/2028?
| Source | Peace and Conflict Resolution listed for NBU? | Date |
|---|---|---|
| NBU 2026/2027 undergraduate admissions page (official) | No. Management and social science programmes listed are Accounting, Business Administration, Economics, Mass Communication and International Relations & Diplomacy | Checked 29 October 2026 |
| JAMB course list for NBU | Could not be opened | Not verified |
| Course directory (universitycourses.ng) | Yes, “Peace and Conflict Resolution” | Updated February 2026 |
| Wikipedia department list | Yes, “Department of Peace and Conflict Resolution” | Cites 2023 directory sites, not NBU |
The official page is the newest source and the one that controls admission, so my reading is that NBU is not admitting into Peace and Conflict Resolution for 2026/2027. The directory listing suggests the course may have been approved or registered with JAMB at some point. Only NBU can say whether it is paused, merged into International Relations & Diplomacy, or coming back. Email admissions@nbu.edu.ng and ask before you register it.
For reference, the full 2026/2027 list on NBU’s page is: Data Science, Cyber Security, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, Accounting, Business Administration, Economics, Mass Communication, International Relations & Diplomacy, Computer Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering and Information and Communication Engineering (all 160 and above); Law, Medical Laboratory Science and Nursing Science (180 and above); and MBBS (200 and above).
Why registering it with NBU is risky
Even if JAMB lets you pick Peace and Conflict Resolution with NBU, the university’s 2026/2027 page says it only considers candidates whose CAPS programme matches the programme chosen on the NBU portal. If the portal does not offer the course, your CAPS course has nothing to match. The page set three conditions:
- your JAMB CAPS details must match the details on your NBU application;
- only candidates whose programme on JAMB CAPS matches the programme on the NBU portal are considered;
- only candidates who upload all the required documents are considered.
If you have already registered it, you can change your course to International Relations at NBU (if your subjects fit, see below) or change your institution. Our JAMB change of course and JAMB change of institution guides cover both.
Switching to International Relations at NBU
International Relations & Diplomacy is the closest course on NBU’s list. It covers conflict, security, diplomacy and negotiation, which overlap heavily with peace studies. NBU’s minimum is 160, ten marks above JAMB’s 150 for universities, and the subject lines differ from peace studies.
| Requirement | Peace Studies and Conflict Resolution (JAMB brochure) | International Relations and Diplomacy (JAMB brochure) |
|---|---|---|
| UTME subjects (plus Use of English) | Three Arts or Social Science subjects | Economics, Literature in English and Geography, Government or History |
| O’level | Five credits including English Language and Government or History, with at least a pass in Mathematics | Five credits including English Language, Government or History and three relevant subjects |
| Direct Entry | Two A-level passes in Government and one other Social Science subject | Two A-level passes in Social Science subjects from Government or History, Economics, Sociology and Business Management |
A peace studies candidate with Government, CRS and History fits the first column but not the second, because International Relations and Diplomacy names Economics and Literature in English. If you are still choosing subjects for the 2027 UTME, register Use of English, Government, Economics and Literature in English. That set fits peace studies at other universities and International Relations at NBU, so you keep both doors open.
NBU also has its own O’level rule: five credits including English and Mathematics plus three relevant subjects, at not more than two sittings. A pass in Mathematics, which JAMB’s peace studies line allows, is not enough at NBU.
I checked JAMB’s Peace and Conflict Resolution entry too, but Myschool’s reprint of it was blank, so the table uses the Peace Studies and Conflict Resolution line. No remark on any of these pages names NBU. Confirm the exact line on JAMB’s e-brochure when you register.
Safe target score for International Relations at NBU (my advice)
| Your UTME score | My read |
|---|---|
| Below 150 | Not eligible for any Nigerian university. |
| 150 to 159 | Below NBU’s 160. A university that takes 150 for peace studies or political science is the better plan. |
| 160 to 174 | Eligible if your subjects and O’level fit. |
| 175 and above | Comfortable. Aim for 180 or more in the 2027 UTME. |
This table is my judgement, not an NBU rule. Read our NBU International Relations (Political Science and International Relations) guide for the full details, including the course-name question on JAMB.
Other options in Abia State
I did not find a university in Abia with a verified Peace and Conflict Resolution intake for 2026/2027. The nearest courses with Scholardemia guides are:
| University | Course | Guide |
|---|---|---|
| Clifford University, Owerrinta | International Relations | Clifford International Relations cut-off mark |
| Clifford University, Owerrinta | Political Science | Clifford Political Science cut-off mark |
| Spiritan University, Nneochi | Political Science | Spiritan Political Science cut-off mark |
| Rhema University, Aba | Political Science | Rhema Political Science cut-off mark |
Peace and conflict courses are taught as electives in most political science and international relations degrees, and a master’s degree in peace and conflict studies is open to graduates of both. For 2026/2027, JAMB set 30 November 2026 as the admission deadline for private universities like these.
How to apply to NBU after switching
- Get your JAMB profile code: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN.
- Register the UTME correctly: choose the International Relations course on NBU’s JAMB list with Nigerian British University as your institution, using the subjects in the table above. First choice is the cleanest route. If NBU was not your first choice, change your institution to NBU on JAMB before its CAPS cut-off date.
- Upload your O’level to CAPS: do this at a JAMB-accredited centre as soon as your WAEC, NECO or NABTEB result is out. NBU accepts at most two sittings.
- Apply on the NBU portal: use application.nbu.edu.ng, the link on NBU’s admissions page. Pick International Relations & Diplomacy, the same programme you have on CAPS, and upload every document asked for. The page does not state a form price, so read the amount on the portal itself.
- Meet the closing date: for 2026/2027, NBU set 30 November 2026 as its application deadline and as the last day for candidates to move NBU onto their CAPS profile. That matches the 30 November 2026 deadline JAMB set for private universities in the 2026/2027 cycle.
- Accept the offer on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, choose Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS. JAMB gave 2026 candidates four weeks to accept or reject an offer.
- Pay acceptance and register: NBU’s older fee schedule listed acceptance at ₦40,000. Confirm the current amount with the bursary, pay only through NBU’s official channels, then complete clearance and print your JAMB admission letter.
Confirm before you pay
NBU’s 2026/2027 page does not list Peace and Conflict Resolution, even though some directories do. Get NBU’s written answer before registering it, and do not pay anyone who promises a place in it. Ignore online adverts with private phone numbers selling NBU forms; apply only through application.nbu.edu.ng. JAMB said in May 2026 that any admission done outside CAPS is illegal, so a genuine offer must show on your CAPS page.
Admissions enquiries go to admissions@nbu.edu.ng or +234 706 075 0979 (the number in the footer of NBU’s site). When your status changes, our JAMB CAPS guide explains what each status means and how to accept.
NBU Management and Social Sciences fees
| Fee item (Management and Social Sciences) | New student | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Tuition | ₦900,000 | Per session |
| Acceptance | ₦40,000 | Paid once on admission |
| Development | ₦100,000 | Per session |
| Accommodation | ₦650,000 | Per session |
| Other charges | ₦576,000 | Exams, medical, ICT, caution fee, sports, library, e-portal, entrepreneurship and one-off items |
| Total for a new student | ₦2,266,000 | Feeding not included |
These figures come from NBU’s older fee schedule, which carries a note about a 5% discount for new students in the 2024/2025 session, so treat them as a guide and not as the 2026/2027 bill. Legit.ng reported NBU’s 2026/2027 fees in September 2026 for Computing and IT (₦951,540), Engineering (₦750,000), Law (₦1,218,037), Nursing (₦1,270,037) and Medicine (₦2,743,000), citing NBU’s tuition page, but I found no 2026/2027 figure for Management and Social Sciences. The older schedule allowed payment in three parts (50% at the start of the session, 20% before first-semester exams and 30% at the start of the second semester) and said fees are not refundable. Ask the bursary for the current Management and Social Sciences figure before you budget.
About Nigerian British University
NBU is a private university at Asa, Ukwa West Local Government Area, Abia State, on the Aba to Port Harcourt road. It is owned by the Adorable Foundation for Educational Development, got NUC approval in April 2022 and was commissioned in February 2023. Its 2026/2027 admissions page lists five academic units: the Faculty of Law, the Faculty of Computing and Information Technology, the College of Health Sciences, the Faculty of Management and Social Sciences and the Faculty of Engineering.
I found no NUC accreditation result for a Peace and Conflict Resolution programme at NBU, or for International Relations & Diplomacy. Ask NBU for the NUC status of whichever course you accept before paying.

This is the usual content of the degree in Nigeria, not an NBU syllabus.
Careers
- NGOs and humanitarian agencies
- Mediation, community relations and corporate social responsibility roles
- Government peace, security and emergency management agencies
- Research, advocacy and postgraduate study
NBU guides worth reading
- NBU International Relations (Political Science and International Relations) guide

- NBU Mass Communication cut-off mark and requirements
Mistakes peace studies candidates make with NBU
- Relying on directory lists: some still show Peace and Conflict Resolution for NBU.
- Registering a course NBU’s portal does not show: your CAPS course must match.
- Switching to International Relations without Economics and Literature: JAMB’s line names both.
- A pass in Mathematics: NBU wants a credit.
- Paying agents: NBU sells forms only on its own portal.

NBU Peace and Conflict Resolution: frequently asked questions
Does NBU offer Peace and Conflict Resolution? It is not on NBU’s 2026/2027 undergraduate admissions list, although some course directories still show it. Ask NBU in writing before registering it.
What is the NBU cut-off mark for Peace and Conflict Resolution? NBU has not published one, because the course is not on its 2026/2027 list. International Relations & Diplomacy, the closest NBU course, needs 160.
What JAMB subjects are needed for Peace and Conflict Resolution? JAMB’s Peace Studies and Conflict Resolution line asks for three Arts or Social Science subjects plus Use of English. Government, Economics and Literature in English is the safest set because it also fits International Relations at NBU.
Can I change from Peace and Conflict Resolution to International Relations at NBU? Yes, through JAMB change of course before NBU’s CAPS cut-off date, if your UTME subjects include Economics and Literature in English and you have a Mathematics credit.
Sources and updates
The programme list, the 160 minimum, the O’level rule, the CAPS matching and document conditions, the 30 November 2026 closing date, the portal and the contacts come from NBU’s 2026/2027 undergraduate admissions page. JAMB requirements were checked on Myschool’s reprint of the JAMB brochure (Peace Studies and Conflict Resolution, International Relations and Diplomacy); the Peace and Conflict Resolution entry was blank, and no remark names NBU. The directory listing comes from the universitycourses.ng NBU page (updated February 2026) and NBU’s Wikipedia entry. The national minimum of 150, the 30 November 2026 private-university deadline and the CAPS rules come from the News Agency of Nigeria (11 May 2026). The fee breakdown comes from NBU’s older fee schedule. JAMB’s own course list for NBU could not be opened. Checked on 29 October 2026. I will update this page if NBU confirms the course’s status or publishes its 2027/2028 notice.
