Havard Wilson College of Education has not published a cut off mark for Primary Education Studies for 2027/2028, and under the 2026 rules NCE applicants with at least four O’level credits are exempt from the UTME. JAMB lists Primary Education Studies for the Aba college as a single course, not a pairing. JAMB registration and CAPS acceptance still apply, and credits in both English and Mathematics matter because primary teachers teach both.
2027/2028 update: Havard Wilson admission requirements and JAMB’s entry rules for NCE usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the position on this page is what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. It comes from the latest official position (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.
Havard Wilson College of Education is a private college in Aba, Abia State. It appears on the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE) list of colleges and on the Federal Ministry of Education’s list of private colleges of education. The college has not published a cut-off mark, a departmental minimum or a screening score for Primary Education Studies in any notice I could find, so what follows rests on JAMB’s rules, the course names JAMB holds for the college, and the college’s own history page. My advice is labelled as advice.

Havard Wilson Primary Education Studies cut-off history
| Session | Figure | What it means | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2026/2027 | No UTME needed | NCE applicants with at least four credit passes were exempted from the UTME; JAMB registration and CAPS still apply | Official federal policy (11 May 2026) |
| 2026/2027 | None set | JAMB announced 150 for universities and 100 for polytechnics, with no separate college of education figure | Official (JAMB 2026 policy meeting) |
| 2025/2026 | 100 | JAMB national minimum UTME score for colleges of education | Official (Nairametrics, 8 July 2025) |
| Any year | Not published | A Havard Wilson figure of its own for Primary Education Studies | No college document found |
One third-party admissions site says Havard Wilson asks 2026/2027 applicants for at least 120 in the UTME, with a ₦2,000 form and a ₦2,000 screening fee. The same page also says the college has not released its form, it gives no signed notice, and a 120 rule makes little sense when NCE applicants with four credits no longer write the UTME. I would not plan around that figure until the college confirms it in writing.
Do you need JAMB or UTME for Primary Education Studies at Havard Wilson?
You need JAMB. You do not need a UTME score if you hold at least four O’level credit passes. These are the official steps behind that answer:
- 11 May 2026: at JAMB’s policy meeting, the Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, said NCE candidates with a minimum of four credit passes would no longer sit the UTME. They still register with JAMB, and CAPS verifies their results before any admission letter is issued. Admissions done outside CAPS were declared illegal.
- June 2026: JAMB’s NCE registration guide set the fees and said there would be no 100 level or 200 level degree admission into any college of education from 2026/2027, affiliated degrees included.
- 23 July 2026: JAMB opened NCE registration without UTME at Institutional Professional Registration Centres (IPRCs) in colleges of education and at JAMB centres.
- Start date: Nairametrics reported on 11 May 2026 that the exemption would start with the 2027 admission cycle, while JAMB’s June guide shows it already working in 2026. Either way, a 2027/2028 NCE applicant registers with JAMB and does not need the UTME.
What JAMB charges for NCE registration
| What you pay | Amount (2026/2027) | Who pays it |
|---|---|---|
| O’level verification code, one sitting | ₦1,500 | Every NCE applicant, bought from the exam body |
| O’level verification code, two sittings | ₦2,000 | Applicants combining two results |
| JAMB NCE application | ₦3,500 | New NCE applicants who did not register for the UTME |
| Centre or IPRC charge | ₦700 | Every NCE applicant |
| Moving a 2026 UTME registration to NCE | ₦700 only | UTME candidates whose first choice was a college of education |
These are JAMB’s 2026/2027 amounts. Check them at the centre before you pay, because the 2027/2028 guide may change them.
Safe target for Primary Education Studies at Havard Wilson (my advice)
This is my own reading as an admissions adviser. Havard Wilson has not published how it ranks applicants. Without a UTME score, a college can only compare people on their O’level results, so your grades in English and in your teaching subjects now do the work a UTME score used to do.
| Your O’level position | My read for Primary Education Studies at Havard Wilson |
|---|---|
| Fewer than four credits | Not eligible for the no-UTME route; resit first |
| Four credits, but no credit in English or Mathematics | Weak; primary teachers teach both |
| Five credits including English Language and Mathematics, one or two sittings | Meets the usual college of education standard |
| Five or more credits at one sitting, including English, Mathematics and a science | Strong. This is what I would aim for. |
If you also plan to write the 2027 UTME to keep a university option open, aim for 150 or more, the 2026 university minimum. That score is for the university option only.
UTME subject combination and O’level requirements for Primary Education Studies at Havard Wilson
| Requirement | Primary Education Studies at Havard Wilson |
|---|---|
| UTME | Not needed for NCE applicants with at least four credit passes (2026 policy) |
| UTME subjects (only if you register for the UTME) | Use of English and any three subjects. This is JAMB’s usual pattern; confirm on the JAMB e-brochure. |
| O’level (the college’s own rule) | Not published in any source I reached |
| O’level (usual college of education rule) | Five credits at no more than two sittings, including English Language and Mathematics (general NCCE practice, not a college notice). |
| O’level for the UTME exemption | At least four credit passes (subjects not named in the policy) |
| Results JAMB accepts | WAEC, NECO, NABTEB and NBAIS, checked with a verification code from the exam body |
| Awaiting results | A college cannot propose you on CAPS until your result is uploaded |
| Direct Entry or degree entry | None into any college of education from 2026/2027 (JAMB). NCE year one is the only way in |
The four-credit rule and the usual five-credit rule do not match. Until Havard Wilson publishes its own requirement, apply with five credits that include English Language and both subjects of your pairing, so that neither rule can be used against you.
Primary Education Studies on JAMB’s Havard Wilson list
Primary Education Studies is a single course: you train to teach every subject in a primary classroom. Early Childhood Care Education, which one blog lists for the college, is not on JAMB’s list, so do not register for it without the college’s confirmation.
| JAMB course name | Credit to have besides English |
|---|---|
| Primary Education Studies | Mathematics, plus a spread of arts and science subjects |
How Havard Wilson screening and admission work for Primary Education Studies
Havard Wilson has not published a screening notice, test date or form price for 2026/2027 that I could find. Its history page says NCCE registered the college with JAMB, which posts candidates to it for the three-year NCE. Its admission page did not open when I checked, so get the form details from the admissions office in Aba before paying anybody.
JAMB’s part is fixed. The college’s admission officer proposes candidates on CAPS, the Provost recommends them, and JAMB checks each candidate’s O’level against the exam body’s record with the verification code. Only then does an offer appear on CAPS. If you also registered for the UTME and a college recommends you for NCE, JAMB suspends your UTME process.
Worked example for a Primary Education Studies applicant (illustrative)
Havard Wilson has not published an aggregate formula. The people below are made up; the example only shows how to test a result against both credit rules and JAMB’s steps.
Precious has two sittings (WAEC and NECO): English C5, Mathematics C6, Biology C4, CRS B3, Civic Education C6, Physics E8. She wants Primary Education Studies.
- Credit count: English, Mathematics, Biology, CRS and Civic Education are credits (C6 or better). That makes five, so the four-credit rule for skipping the UTME is met.
- Five-credit check: five credits across two sittings, including English and Mathematics.
- Subject check: The spread of Biology, CRS and Civic Education suits a course that covers many subjects.
- Process: buy a two-sitting verification code (₦2,000), register for NCE at an IPRC or JAMB centre with Havard Wilson as first choice (₦3,500 plus ₦700), then watch CAPS for the offer.
Compare Tochukwu, who has English C6, CRS C5, Civic Education C4 and Mathematics D7. He meets the four-credit rule but lacks Mathematics, which primary teachers teach every day.
Your chances of admission into Primary Education Studies at Havard Wilson
Primary Education Studies is usually one of the larger NCE courses, and private colleges tend to admit most qualified applicants into it. Havard Wilson publishes no figures. Credits in English and Mathematics are the core requirement.
- Put Havard Wilson first: JAMB routes each NCE registration to the first-choice college.
- Pick a pairing JAMB lists for the college: a combination that is not on the list cannot be offered on CAPS.
- Get the verification code right: CAPS compares it with the exam body’s record, and a mismatch stalls the process.
- Check CAPS every week: JAMB set 31 December 2026 as the deadline for 2026/2027 college of education admissions, and an offer is not yours until you accept it.
How to apply for Primary Education Studies at Havard Wilson, step by step
- Get your JAMB profile code: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN.
- Buy your verification code: from WAEC, NECO, NABTEB or NBAIS, for one or two sittings. Copy your exam numbers and grades exactly as printed.
- Register for NCE at an IPRC or JAMB centre: log in with your profile code, choose NCE registration, pay ₦3,500 plus ₦700, and pick Havard Wilson College of Education, Aba as first choice with Primary Education Studies.
- Enter your O’level: type in your results and the verification code at the centre. CAPS will check these exact results.
- Already registered for the UTME? If a college of education was your first choice, JAMB moves your record to NCE and you pay ₦700 only.
- Complete the college’s own form if it asks for one: confirm the price and process at the admissions office in Aba, and use the same names and results as on your JAMB profile.
- Accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, open Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS, accept and print your JAMB admission letter. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status.
- Pay acceptance and register: the college has not published its acceptance or school fees online. Get the amounts in writing and pay only through the channel the college names.
Warning
Any admission done outside JAMB CAPS is illegal, the Federal Government said in May 2026. If someone offers you a Havard Wilson place that does not show on CAPS, or asks for money to “process” one, do not pay.
Registered for another school? Read JAMB change of institution. For dates, see when JAMB 2027 registration starts; you still register even if you will not write the exam.
Studying NCE Primary Education Studies at Havard Wilson
Primary Education Studies trains you to teach all subjects in a primary school classroom. The college’s outline was not available, so this is the usual NCE content.
What you study
- Teaching English, Mathematics and Basic Science at primary level
- Social Studies, Cultural and Creative Arts and religious studies for young learners
- Child development and classroom management
- Making and using teaching aids
- Education courses, general studies and teaching practice in a primary school
Duration, approval and the degree question
The college’s history page describes its NCE as a three-year programme and says NCCE gave final approval on 25 October 2005, with full accreditation since 2006. NCCE’s current list names the college and marks it open. I could not see NCCE’s programme-by-programme record for Primary Education Studies, so ask the college for the current status of your pairing before you pay acceptance.
The same page says the college affiliated with Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, Port Harcourt, in March 2018 for degree programmes. JAMB’s 2026 guide ended new degree admissions into colleges of education, affiliated ones included, so plan to take a B.Ed or B.Sc (Ed) at a university after your NCE.
Careers
- Teaching: primary school classes in public and private schools
- Related work: nursery and after-school programmes and private lessons
- Teacher registration: the NCE is Nigeria’s minimum teaching qualification, and teachers register with the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN). The college says TRCN held its first induction there in October 2017.

Mistakes that cost Primary Education Studies applicants a Havard Wilson place
- No Mathematics credit: you will teach Mathematics every day.
- Registering for Early Childhood Care Education: it is not on JAMB’s list for the college.
- Waiting for a UTME score: NCE applicants with four credits do not need one, and waiting can push you past the college’s admission window.
- Spelling the name wrong when searching: the college is “Havard”, not “Harvard”. Pick it from JAMB’s list rather than typing it.
- Accepting on CAPS and stopping there: acceptance fee payment and registration at the college are separate steps.
