Gestric Polytechnic admission requirements follow the national rule for polytechnics: a UTME score of at least 100 (JAMB’s 2026/2027 minimum) and five O’level credits including English Language and Mathematics. Gestric is a new private polytechnic in Akwa Ibom State, with its campus at Abiakpo Ikot Ukana in Obot Akara LGA; NBTE lists it under Uyo. It has published no cut-off of its own, and I could not find it on JAMB’s polytechnic list or on Myschool, so confirm it on JAMB CAPS before you apply.
2027/2028 update: Gestric Poly cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.
Some websites place Gestric at Amesi in Anambra State. That is wrong as far as I can find: Amesi is in Aguata LGA of Anambra, and no source links the school to it. Vanguard reported the opening of Gestric Polytechnic in Akwa Ibom in April 2025, naming Senator Chris Ekpenyong as founder and chairman of the board of trustees and Prof. Sylvester Akpan as rector. NBTE’s 2025 Directory of Accredited Programmes heads the entry “Gestric Polytechnic, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State”.

Courses at Gestric Polytechnic
Vanguard’s report said the school had approval to offer five courses: Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Management and Statistics. NBTE’s 2025 Directory shows four ND programmes, all on interim approval:
| Programme | Status | Approved stream | Expiration date |
|---|---|---|---|
| ND Business Administration | Interim (2025) | 1 | 1 October 2027 |
| ND Computer Engineering Technology | Interim (2025) | 1 | 1 October 2027 |
| ND Electrical/Electronic Engineering Technology | Interim (2025) | 1 | 1 October 2027 |
| ND Computer Science | Interim (2025) | 1 | 1 October 2027 |
| Institutional Administration | Interim (2025) | 1 | 1 October 2027 |
Statistics, which Vanguard mentioned, is not in NBTE’s directory for Gestric, so treat it as unconfirmed. “Management” in the report most likely refers to Business Administration, which NBTE prints with a typo as “Businees Administration”.
Interim approval lets a new programme admit students before NBTE’s full accreditation visit. Gestric’s approvals run to 1 October 2027. A student who starts an ND in 2027/2028 would be in ND1 or ND2 when that date passes, so the school will need to pass accreditation during your time there. Ask how far it has gone with that, and keep any letter it gives you.
Is Gestric Polytechnic on JAMB?
I did not find Gestric on the reprint of JAMB’s polytechnic list, on Myschool, on Wikipedia’s list of polytechnics or on the usual admission blogs. The JAMB list reprint predates the school’s opening, so that is not proof of anything; new schools are added to JAMB’s system when they get their institution code. You can only be sure on JAMB’s own portal.
It still matters. JAMB admits full-time ND students only through CAPS, and NAN reported JAMB’s 2026 warning that admissions outside CAPS are illegal. Check before you buy a form.
How to confirm a polytechnic before you pay
- Search during registration: when you register for the UTME at a CBT centre or on JAMB’s portal, look for Gestric Polytechnic in the list of polytechnics. If the name is not there, JAMB cannot send your record to the school.
- Check the course under the school: a school can be on JAMB’s list while a course is not. Make sure your exact course appears under it.
- Check NBTE’s directory: open NBTE’s latest Directory of Accredited Programmes and find the school’s heading. Look at the status and expiration date for your course.
- Ask for letters: ask the school for the NBTE letter for your course and for its JAMB institution code. A school that is admitting legally will have both.
- Keep records: keep copies of every receipt and letter. If anything goes wrong, those papers are what JAMB, NBTE or a lawyer will ask for.
Gestric Poly cut-off mark
| Session | Figure | What it is | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2026/2027 | 100 | JAMB minimum for polytechnics and monotechnics | Official (JAMB 2026 policy meeting, reported by NAN on 11 May 2026) |
| 2025/2026 | 100 | JAMB minimum for polytechnics | Official (reported by Nairametrics, 8 July 2025) |
| Any year | None | Gestric figure for any course | No published figure found |
A new school with interim approval and one stream per course will usually take every candidate who meets the rules, but a stronger score gives you room if it does fill up. My own targets:
| Course | Legal minimum | My safe target for 2027 |
|---|---|---|
| Business Administration | 100 | 115 or more |
| Computer Engineering Technology | 100 | 130 or more |
| Electrical/Electronic Engineering Technology | 100 | 125 or more |
| Computer Science | 100 | 130 or more |
UTME subjects and O’level for Gestric’s courses
These are the JAMB polytechnic brochure base rules. Use of English is compulsory for every candidate and is not repeated in the table.
| Course | UTME subjects besides Use of English | O’level credits (five in all) |
|---|---|---|
| Business Administration | Mathematics and any two of Geography, Commerce, Government, Principles of Accounts and Economics | English Language and Mathematics plus three such as Economics, Commerce and Principles of Accounts |
| Computer Engineering Technology | Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry | Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and English Language plus one technical or science subject |
| Electrical/Electronic Engineering Technology | Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry | Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry plus two from the technical list (get English as one) |
| Computer Science | Mathematics and any two of Geography, Physics, Economics and Chemistry | Mathematics, English Language and Physics plus two others such as Chemistry and Economics |
For Business Administration, Mathematics is compulsory in the UTME even though it is a business course. For the two engineering courses, the UTME line is fixed at Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. For Computer Science, Physics is optional in the UTME but compulsory at O’level.
Each ND takes two years full-time with a SIWES placement under NBTE’s standard pattern. NBTE lists no HND at Gestric, so plan to take an HND elsewhere after your industrial attachment.
If Gestric is on CAPS: how to apply
- Get your JAMB profile code: text NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN.
- Register the UTME with the right subjects: pick your course and choose Gestric Polytechnic as your polytechnic. If you chose another school, do a JAMB change of institution before screening.
- Upload your O’level result to CAPS: go to an accredited JAMB CBT centre once your WAEC, NECO or NABTEB result is out. CAPS cannot offer you admission without it.
- Contact the school: go to the campus at Abiakpo Ikot Ukana, Obot Akara LGA, confirm your course is admitting for 2027/2028, see the NBTE letter, buy the form there and keep every receipt.
- Attend screening: take your UTME result slip, O’level result, birth certificate or age declaration, local government identification and passport photographs.
- Accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, open Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS, and accept the offer. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status.
- Pay acceptance and register: get the amounts in writing from the bursary, pay only through the channel the school names, and complete medical and departmental registration.
Warning
Gestric Polytechnic has no official website I could find. Anyone selling its forms online, or listing it under an Anambra address, may have nothing to do with the school. Deal with the school directly, and remember that JAMB treats admission outside CAPS as illegal.
My advice
- Candidates from Obot Akara, Ikot Ekpene, Ikono and Abak are close enough to commute, which makes a new school like Gestric easier to try.
- Insist on seeing Gestric under your course on the JAMB portal before you pay for anything.
- Ask whether the school has its own hostels or whether you must rent in a nearby town.
- Have a second choice ready. JAMB told polytechnics to finish 2026/2027 admissions by 31 December 2026, and the established polytechnics below admit through CAPS every year.

Sources and updates
The 2026/2027 polytechnic minimum of 100, the 31 December 2026 deadline and JAMB’s warning against admissions outside CAPS come from JAMB’s 2026 policy meeting as reported by the News Agency of Nigeria on 11 May 2026; the 2025/2026 figure is from Nairametrics (8 July 2025). The school’s heading, programmes and interim status are from NBTE’s 25th Edition 2025 Directory of Accredited Programmes. The campus location, founder, rector and the five courses named at the opening come from Vanguard’s April 2025 report on the opening of Gestric Polytechnic in Akwa Ibom. The JAMB check used a reprint of Chapter 3 of the JAMB brochure and Myschool’s institution lists. Subject rules are the JAMB polytechnic brochure base lines as reprinted by Myschool. Details on the alternative polytechnics come from their 2026 admission notices as reprinted by Myschool. Safe targets are my own advice. Checked on 3 November 2026. This page will be updated when Gestric publishes an admission notice or appears on JAMB.
