The ABSU cut off mark for Architecture is 150 in the UTME. That is the minimum Abia State University (ABSU) set for every regular degree course in its 2026/2027 screening notice, for candidates who chose ABSU as first or second choice. ABSU did not publish a separate Architecture figure, so 150 only gets you screened. Architecture takes a small intake, and successful candidates usually score well above the minimum.
2027/2028 update: ABSU cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.
Architecture is the one course in this group where ABSU has its own lines in the JAMB brochure, and they are friendlier than the general rule: Chemistry is not compulsory at O’level, and ABSU accepts ND and HND holders in relevant programmes. On accreditation, NUC’s latest result for ABSU Architecture is full, but its maturity date is 2026 and the record includes an earlier denied result, so ask about the current status before you accept.

ABSU Architecture cut-off mark history
| Session | Figure | What it means | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2026/2027 | 150 | Lowest UTME score ABSU accepted for online screening in any regular degree course (ABSU as first or second choice) | ABSU notice, reprinted by Osilight and Myschool, 8 to 9 June 2026 |
| 2026 (national) | 150 | JAMB minimum for every Nigerian university | JAMB 2026 policy meeting, 11 May 2026 |
| 2025/2026 | Not confirmed | I could not open an ABSU notice for that session | Unverified |
| Architecture figure | None published | Blog “departmental cut-off” tables cite no ABSU document | Unofficial |
ABSU’s 2026/2027 notice gave one figure for all courses. A website that prints an official ABSU cut-off for Architecture alone is quoting a number ABSU never released. The real line each year is the score of the last candidate admitted into the course, and ABSU does not publish it.
Safe target score for Architecture at ABSU (my advice)
Architecture departments in Nigeria admit small classes because studio space and staff are limited. You are ranked against everyone who chose the course, so 150 is the floor and the real contest happens above it. This table is my advice from how Architecture behaves at universities in the South East. ABSU has not published anything like it.
| Your UTME score | My read for ABSU Architecture |
|---|---|
| Below 150 | Not eligible for screening |
| 150 to 179 | Eligible, but you will need excellent O’level grades and some luck; have a backup course ready |
| 180 to 199 | A fair chance with strong credits from one sitting |
| 200 to 219 | Good |
| 220 and above | Strong |
I would aim for 200 or more. If you land between 150 and 180, look early at ABSU’s Building Technology, Estate Management or Urban and Regional Planning, which sit in the same college. A change of course on JAMB is easier before ABSU starts admitting than after.
JAMB subject combination and O’level for Architecture at ABSU
| Requirement | What the JAMB brochure says |
|---|---|
| Course name on JAMB | Architecture (listed under Engineering, Environment and Technology on ABSU’s course list) |
| UTME | Use of English, Physics, Mathematics and any one of Chemistry, Geography, Art, Biology or Economics |
| ABSU UTME remark | “ABSU requires Mathematics as UTME requirement” |
| O’level (ABSU remark) | Five credits including English Language, Physics and Mathematics, plus any two of Geography, Fine Arts, Technical Drawing, Wood/Metal Work, Biology, Chemistry, Economics |
| Chemistry at O’level | Not compulsory for ABSU (remark shared with AAU) |
| Direct Entry (A-level) | Two A-level passes chosen from Mathematics or Physics and Chemistry, Geography or Fine Arts |
| Direct Entry (ABSU remark) | ABSU accepts ND/HND in relevant programmes plus the UTME requirements |
Which fourth UTME subject should you pick?
The brochure allows Chemistry, Geography, Art, Biology or Economics as the fourth subject, and ABSU’s own UTME remark only confirms that Mathematics must be one of your papers. I would pick Chemistry if you are a science student, because it keeps Building Technology and the engineering courses open as a backup. Pick Geography or Fine Art if those are your strongest subjects; both relate to the work you will do in the degree, and Fine Art training helps a lot in design studio.
O’level: what ABSU actually asks for
The general brochure line for Architecture makes Chemistry compulsory. ABSU has two remarks that change this: one says Chemistry is not compulsory for ABSU (and AAU), and the other spells out ABSU’s own list. You need credits in English, Physics and Mathematics, plus any two of Geography, Fine Arts, Technical Drawing, Wood or Metal Work, Biology, Chemistry and Economics. A candidate with Fine Arts and Technical Drawing, and no Chemistry, meets ABSU’s rule.
The 2026/2027 notice describes document screening and does not mention a drawing test or portfolio for Architecture. Some Nigerian universities do run one for this course, so ask ABSU’s admissions office whether the department will test you separately.
Direct Entry
ABSU’s Direct Entry remark says it accepts ND or HND in relevant programmes, plus the UTME requirements. Architectural Technology is the obvious relevant diploma; ask the admissions office whether related diplomas such as Building Technology count, and which level you would enter. The general A-level route asks for two passes chosen from Mathematics or Physics together with Chemistry, Geography or Fine Arts. The 2026/2027 notice also asks Direct Entry candidates for the basic five O’level credits.
How ABSU screens applicants
The 2026/2027 notice was signed by the Registrar, Dr. Acho Elendu. I could not open the original on the ABSU website, so the details below come from two reprints that agree: Osilight (posted 9 June 2026) and Myschool (8 June 2026).
| Detail | What the 2026/2027 notice said |
|---|---|
| Who could apply | Candidates who chose ABSU as first or second choice, or who changed to ABSU, and scored 150 or more in the UTME |
| Direct Entry | Basic five O’level credit passes under ABSU’s entry requirements |
| Where to register | Online at www.abiastateuniversity.edu.ng |
| What to upload | UTME result, O’level result and degree certificate where applicable, on the ABSU portal (www.portal.abiastateuniversity.edu.ng) and the JAMB portal |
| Fee | ₦2,000 by e-payment through the banks named in the notice, or by debit card |
| Missing the screening | Candidates who do not register “will not be considered for admission” |
| Written test | Not mentioned; the notice describes online document screening |
| Closing date | Not stated in the reprints |
The bank names came out garbled in the reprint, so follow the payment options on the ABSU portal itself. Since the notice describes no written test, ABSU ranks you on two things it already has: your UTME score and your O’level grades. For Architecture, your Mathematics and Physics grades and any Fine Arts or Technical Drawing credits are what make your result stand out.
Worked example for Architecture candidates
ABSU has not published an aggregate formula. To show how O’level grades can move you up or down, I use an illustrative method common at Nigerian universities: UTME score divided by 8 (up to 50 points) plus O’level points for five relevant subjects, where A1 = 10, B2 = 9, B3 = 8, C4 = 7, C5 = 6 and C6 = 5 (up to 50 points). This is my example, not ABSU’s formula.
- Nneka scored 192 with B3 in English, B2 in Mathematics, B3 in Physics, A1 in Fine Arts and B2 in Geography. UTME points: 192 ÷ 8 = 24. O’level points: 8 + 9 + 8 + 10 + 9 = 44. Illustrative total: 68.
- Emeka scored 215 with C6 in English, C5 in Mathematics, C6 in Physics, C5 in Chemistry and C6 in Biology. UTME points: 215 ÷ 8 = 26.875. O’level points: 5 + 6 + 5 + 6 + 5 = 27. Illustrative total: 53.875.
- The result: Nneka leads by 14.125 points without a Chemistry credit, which ABSU’s remark allows. Emeka scored 23 marks more in the UTME and still trails because of weak credits.
How to apply for Architecture at ABSU, step by step
- Get a JAMB profile code: text NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the SIM linked to that NIN. The code arrives by SMS.
- Register the UTME with the right subjects: choose Architecture at Abia State University, with Use of English, Mathematics, Physics and your chosen fourth subject (Chemistry, Geography, Art, Biology or Economics). ABSU accepted first and second choice candidates in 2026/2027, but first choice is the safer position. To move ABSU up later, use a JAMB change of institution.
- Upload your O’level to CAPS: at an accredited JAMB CBT centre, once your result is out. Check that the upload shows credits in English, Physics, Mathematics and two of the subjects on ABSU’s list.
- Register for ABSU screening: when the notice is out, go to www.abiastateuniversity.edu.ng, pay the screening fee (₦2,000 in 2026/2027) and upload your UTME result and O’level on the ABSU portal.
- Keep your receipts: save the payment receipt and the printout of your completed screening form. You may need both at clearance.
- Check your status: watch the ABSU portal and your JAMB CAPS page. An ABSU offer shows on CAPS first.
- Accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, choose Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS, and accept. JAMB gives four weeks. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status.
- Pay acceptance and clear: ABSU’s acceptance and school fees were not in any source I reached. Pay only the amount on your ABSU portal invoice.
Warning
Every genuine ABSU offer appears on JAMB CAPS, and JAMB said in May 2026 that admission outside CAPS is illegal. Anyone who asks for money to “process” a Architecture place is not acting for ABSU. Pay only through the ABSU portal.
JAMB kept 31 October 2026 as the 2026/2027 date by which public universities such as ABSU should finish admissions (Nairametrics, 28 September 2026). If you applied this year, check CAPS rather than waiting for a printed list.
Architecture at ABSU: the programme
Architecture sits in ABSU’s College of Engineering and Environmental Studies. The main campus is at Uturu, Isuikwuato LGA; Wikipedia places only the College of Law and the College of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine at the Umuahia campus. ABSU began in 1981 as Imo State University and took its present name after Abia State was created in 1991.
What you study
ABSU has not published a course outline that I could reach. Architecture degrees in Nigeria follow the NUC benchmark, and you can expect:
- Design studio: the core of every year, moving from small buildings to large and complex projects.
- Drawing and communication: freehand drawing, architectural graphics, model making and computer-aided design.
- Building technology: construction methods, materials, structures and building services.
- History and theory: architectural history, including African and Nigerian architecture, and design theory.
- Environment: climate-responsive design, site planning, landscape and urban design.
- Practice: professional practice, specification writing and SIWES industrial training in an architecture firm.
Accreditation, degree and duration
NUC’s publication of accreditation results from 1990 to 2025 lists ABSU Architecture with this sequence: interim, denied, interim, full, full. The latest result is full, and the maturity date is 2026, which means a revisit falls due around now. I could not find whether NUC has revisited, so ask the department about its current NUC status before you accept an offer.
To practise as an architect in Nigeria you need registration with the Architects Registration Council of Nigeria (ARCON), and the programme you studied must be accredited for that. I found no published ARCON report on ABSU Architecture, so ARCON status is not confirmed here. Nigerian architecture training is usually a four-year B.Sc followed by a two-year M.Sc for professional qualification; ABSU’s own page confirming its degree title and length was not available.
Careers

Mistakes that cost Architecture applicants an ABSU place
- Leaving out Mathematics in the UTME: ABSU’s remark makes it compulsory.
- Giving up because you have no Chemistry credit: ABSU’s remark says Chemistry is not compulsory at O’level.
- Missing Physics at O’level: English, Physics and Mathematics are all required.
- Stopping at 150: Architecture takes a small intake.
- Not registering for screening: the notice says such candidates will not be considered.
- Missing the CAPS window: JAMB gives four weeks to accept an offer.

Sources and updates
The 150 minimum, the first and second choice rule, the Direct Entry line, the ₦2,000 fee, the registration and upload steps and the warning about candidates who fail to register come from ABSU’s 2026/2027 screening notice signed by the Registrar, Dr. Acho Elendu, as reprinted by Osilight (9 June 2026) and Myschool (8 June 2026); I could not open the original on the ABSU website. The national minimum of 150, the four-week CAPS window and the warning on admissions outside CAPS come from the News Agency of Nigeria (11 May 2026), and the 31 October 2026 deadline for public universities from Nairametrics (28 September 2026). The UTME, O’level and Direct Entry rules come from Myschool’s reprint of the JAMB brochure entry for Architecture, which ABSU’s JAMB course list links to. The accreditation history comes from NUC’s accreditation results, 1990 to 2025 publication. Campus and history details come from Wikipedia. The safe target table and the worked example are my own advice and illustration. I found no published ARCON report on ABSU Architecture. ABSU’s fees, the degree title and the duration were not published in any source I reached. Checked on 29 October 2026; this page will be updated if ABSU publishes a departmental cut-off or new requirements.
