The Spiritan University cut-off mark for Accounting is 150 in the UTME. That is JAMB’s national minimum for universities for the 2026/2027 admission cycle, and Spiritan University, Nneochi asks Accounting applicants for “at least the National Cutoff Score” without setting a higher figure. The university has never published a separate departmental cut-off for Accounting.
2027/2028 update: Spiritan University cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.
So 150 gets you through the door. What decides an Accounting place at Spiritan is the rest of your file: the right UTME subjects, a credit in Economics and Mathematics, results uploaded to CAPS, and a completed Spiritan form. This guide covers the official figures, a safe target score, the exact course name to pick on JAMB, the O’level and Direct Entry rules from the JAMB brochure, how Spiritan takes applications, a worked example and what the 2022 accreditation results mean for you.

Spiritan Accounting cut-off mark history
| Session | Figure | What it is | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2026/2027 | 150 | JAMB minimum for universities, which Spiritan applies | Official (JAMB policy meeting, 11 May 2026) |
| 2025/2026 | 150 | JAMB minimum for universities | Official (JAMB policy meeting, July 2025) |
| 2022/2023 | 140 | Score blogs said candidates needed to choose Spiritan | Blog report (SchoolNGR, 19 September 2022) |
| Any year | None | A separate Accounting cut-off from Spiritan | Never published |
Spiritan follows JAMB’s floor and adds nothing of its own. When JAMB moved the university minimum from 140 to 150, Spiritan’s working minimum moved with it. If the 2027 policy meeting changes the national figure, expect Spiritan to follow again.
Safe target score for Accounting at Spiritan (my advice)
Nothing in this section comes from Spiritan. It is my reading as an admissions adviser, based on how small private universities in the South-East usually fill their places.
| Your UTME score | My read for Spiritan Accounting |
|---|---|
| Below 150 | Not eligible for a 2026/2027 university place anywhere, Spiritan included |
| 150 to 169 | Eligible. A place is realistic if your O’level credits are complete and you apply early |
| 170 to 199 | Comfortable for Spiritan, with room to spare if the university raises its bar |
| 200 and above | Strong. You can also compete for the same course at public universities |
For the 2027 UTME I would aim for 180 or more. That score is safe for Spiritan and keeps Accounting open at universities with stiffer competition, which matters if family plans or fees change. Spiritan has not published applicant numbers for Accounting, so treat these bands as guidance.
Spiritan Accounting subject combination and O’level requirements
I checked the requirements on Myschool’s reprint of the JAMB brochure for Accounting. Spiritan has no institution-specific remark there, so the general rules apply, and the university’s own page adds that English and Mathematics are compulsory for every programme.
| Requirement | Accounting at Spiritan |
|---|---|
| Course name on JAMB | Accounting (Spiritan appears as SPIRITAN-ENU on Myschool’s list) |
| UTME subjects | Use of English, Mathematics, Economics and any other Social Science subject |
| O’level | Five credits including English Language, Mathematics, Economics and two other relevant subjects |
| Sittings | Not more than two (WASC, SSCE or NECO) |
| Direct Entry | Two A level passes including Economics |
| Special Spiritan remark | None in the brochure |
Points Accounting applicants get wrong
- Commerce in place of Economics: the brochure lets a few named universities accept a Commerce credit in lieu of Economics. Spiritan is not one of them, so get a credit in Economics itself.
- Principles of Accounting as a UTME subject: the general rule asks for Mathematics, Economics and another Social Science subject. Government, Geography or Commerce are the usual picks for the fourth subject.
- Mathematics at D7: no UTME score makes up for a missing Mathematics credit. Spiritan names it as compulsory.
Direct Entry into Accounting
The general brochure rule is two A level passes including Economics. The brochure also lists alternatives that some universities accept, such as ND or HND credits, NCE merit passes, IJMB and professional foundation certificates like ICAN or ACCA, but each of those is tied to named institutions and Spiritan is not among them. If you hold an ND in Accountancy, call the Registrar before you buy the DE form and ask whether Spiritan will take it. You still need the O’level credits listed above.
How Spiritan screens Accounting applicants
Spiritan does not run the large Post-UTME portal process you see at public universities. Its 2026/2027 admissions page, signed by the Ag. Registrar, says admission is in progress and gives two ways in: an online form linked from the page, or a paper form from one of thirteen sales points across six states and Abuja. The page adds that candidates who did not choose Spiritan in JAMB can still apply, and a July 2025 university notice told such candidates to do a change of institution right away.
| Where to get the form | State |
|---|---|
| Spiritan University campus, Nneochi | Abia |
| St. Mulumba’s Catholic Parish, Upper Chime Avenue, New Haven | Enugu |
| Holy Ghost Juniorate, Ihiala | Anambra |
| Holy Ghost Academy, Amaokpala, Orumba North LGA | Anambra |
| Spiritan Provincialate, 3-3 Junction, Onitsha | Anambra |
| Fr Philip Aguh Spiritan Academy, Akabor, Ikeduru LGA | Imo |
| Bishop Okoye Spiritan Secondary School, Mmiriwanyi, Oyigbo LGA | Rivers |
| Mater Misericordiae Parish, Rumuomasi, Port Harcourt | Rivers |
| Thorst Ltd, Woji Road, Woji Town, Port Harcourt (08055233612) | Rivers |
| Spiritan Provincialate, Towers International School, Katampe | FCT Abuja |
| Spiritan Provincialate, Lagos-Benin Expressway, Benin | Edo |
| St Francis Catholic Church, Oregun, Ikeja | Lagos |
| Annunciation Catholic Church, Ogunu, Warri | Delta |
The admissions page does not describe a screening test, an aggregate formula or a form fee. Blog reports from the 2022 cycle described a Post-UTME screening exercise for which candidates with 140 and above were eligible. A later blog page labelled 2026/2027 repeats dates that do not match the calendar, so I would not plan around it. Call the Registrar’s line, 0703 986 5805, to ask whether there is a test or interview for this year’s intake and what to bring.
One oddity: the requirements text on the 2026/2027 page still says “National Cutoff Score in the 2025/2026 UTME”. The national minimum was 150 in both years, so in practice nothing changes. Read it as the current year’s minimum.
Worked example for an Accounting candidate
Spiritan has published no aggregate formula, so the useful sum is the distance between your score, the 150 minimum and the safe target, plus a check of your subjects.
Ngozi scored 176. She sat English, Mathematics, Economics and Government. In one WAEC sitting she has B3 in English, C4 in Mathematics, B2 in Economics, C5 in Commerce and C6 in Government.
- Eligibility: 176 minus 150 = 26. She clears the minimum by 26 marks.
- Against my safe target: 180 minus 176 = 4. She is close enough that her score will not be the problem.
- UTME subjects: Mathematics, Economics and Government (a Social Science subject). That matches the brochure.
- O’level: English, Mathematics and Economics credits are all there, plus two more. One sitting. She qualifies.
Emeka scored 203, well above the target, but has D7 in Mathematics and sat Literature in English instead of Economics in the UTME. He fails on two counts: no Mathematics credit and a UTME combination without Economics. His best move is to fix the Mathematics credit in a NECO or WAEC GCE sitting and register Economics in the 2027 UTME.
How to apply for Accounting at Spiritan, step by step
- Get your JAMB profile code: text NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN. You need the code to buy the UTME e-PIN.
- Register the right course: pick Accounting under Spiritan University with Use of English, Mathematics, Economics and one other Social Science subject. Make Spiritan your first choice. If you chose another school, do a JAMB change of institution before you apply.
- Upload your O’level to CAPS: go to a JAMB-accredited CBT centre with your WAEC, NECO or NABTEB details and have the result uploaded. Spiritan cannot see grades that are not on CAPS.
- Fill the Spiritan application form: open the “Click Here to Apply” link on the university’s admissions page, or buy the form at one of the sales points in the table above. The form price is not published, so ask the Registrar’s line (0703 986 5805) before you pay anything.
- Attend screening: sit any test or interview the university fixes and bring originals of your JAMB result slip and O’level results. Ask the admissions office for the full document list.
- Accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, choose Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS. JAMB gives four weeks to accept an offer. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status.
- Pay acceptance and register: a 2022 blog report put the acceptance fee at ₦20,000, non-refundable. Spiritan has not published a current figure, so confirm on the student portal or with the bursary before paying.
Warning
Spiritan’s application form is a link on its own admissions page and paper forms are sold at named Spiritan parishes and schools. Do not pay any agent who promises a guaranteed place, and treat any offer that does not show on JAMB CAPS as fake. Admissions done outside CAPS are illegal.
If you wrote the 2026 UTME and still want a place this session, move quickly. JAMB told private universities to finish 2026/2027 admissions by 30 November 2026 (public universities had until 31 October). Offers that are not accepted on CAPS in time are withdrawn.
Studying Accounting at Spiritan University
Accounting is a four-year B.Sc. programme in the Faculty of Arts, Management and Social Sciences for UTME entrants. Direct Entry students normally start in 200 level. It was one of Spiritan’s take-off programmes when lectures began in 2018/2019.
What you study
- 100 and 200 level: principles of accounting, introductory economics, business mathematics and statistics, plus the general studies and entrepreneurship courses Spiritan runs for all students.
- Core accounting: financial accounting and reporting, cost and management accounting, auditing and assurance, taxation and public sector accounting.
- Supporting courses: business law, corporate finance, information systems and research methods.
- Final year: advanced financial reporting, accounting theory and a research project.
This is the usual shape of a Nigerian B.Sc. Accounting. Spiritan has not put a course list online, so ask the department for the current handbook.
Is Accounting at Spiritan University accredited?
Accounting was one of the ten programmes Spiritan presented for its first NUC accreditation exercise. The university’s own report says ten NUC panels, each with a coordinator and three professors, visited from 19 to 29 January 2022 as part of the October/November 2021 round. Myschool reported on 9 May 2022 that seven of the ten earned full accreditation and three got interim status.
Neither the university nor Myschool said which three programmes were interim, and I could not find an NUC technical report naming Spiritan’s programmes on the NUC website. NUC full accreditation normally lasts five years and interim two, so a 2022 result is due for renewal around now. Ask the department for its current status before you pay the acceptance fee. A programme with expired or denied accreditation cannot admit new students.
Careers and professional exams
Most Accounting graduates go on to a professional qualification. In Nigeria that usually means the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) or the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN), and many also sit ACCA. Exemptions depend on each body’s own rules for each university, and I could not confirm Spiritan’s exemption status with any of them. Typical jobs are audit trainee, tax associate, accounts officer in a bank or company, and finance roles in government and NGOs.
About Spiritan University, Nneochi
Spiritan University is a private Catholic university owned by the Congregation of the Holy Spirit (the Spiritans), Province of Nigeria South-East. The Federal Executive Council approved it on 6 December 2017 and it started lectures in the 2018/2019 session. The campus sits on Ajali-Ihube-Lomara Road, Nneato-Isuochi, in Umunneochi LGA, a rural part of Abia State close to the Enugu and Anambra borders. The university describes itself as the second full university owned by the Spiritans worldwide, after Duquesne University in the United States.
Its 2026/2027 admissions page lists four faculties: Arts, Management and Social Sciences; Natural and Applied Sciences; Law; and Allied Health and Basic Medical Sciences. The last two are new. In March 2026 the university reported that NUC had finished an accreditation visit to the Faculty of Allied Health.

Mistakes that cost Accounting applicants a Spiritan place
- Waiting for a Post-UTME portal: Spiritan takes applications through its own form. If you wait for a big portal announcement, the session can close around you.
- Choosing another university first and never changing: Spiritan can only offer you admission on CAPS if it is your institution on JAMB.
- No Economics credit: Commerce does not replace it at Spiritan.
- O’level not on CAPS: the university cannot see what JAMB has not received.
- Paying an agent: the form link and sales points are on the official page.
- Accepting on CAPS and stopping there: the acceptance fee and physical clearance at Nneochi are separate steps.

Spiritan University cut-off mark for Accounting: FAQs
Is 150 enough for Accounting in Spiritan University? Yes, 150 meets the minimum Spiritan uses for 2026/2027, as long as your UTME subjects and O’level credits are complete. I would still aim for 180 or more in 2027 to keep other universities open.
Can I use Commerce instead of Economics for Accounting at Spiritan? No. The JAMB brochure only lets a few named universities accept Commerce in lieu of Economics, and Spiritan is not one of them.
Does Spiritan University accept two sittings for Accounting? Yes. Its admissions page asks for five credits at not more than two sittings, including English and Mathematics.
Is Spiritan University Accounting accredited by NUC? Accounting was one of ten programmes NUC visited in January 2022, when seven got full and three got interim accreditation. Which grade Accounting received was not published, so confirm the current status with the department.

The 2026/2027 admission status, O’level rule (five credits, not more than two sittings, English and Mathematics compulsory), application routes, form sales points, faculty and programme list and phone numbers come from Spiritan University’s admissions page, read on 29 October 2026. The founding date, proprietor and location are from the university’s About page. The January 2022 accreditation visit is from the university’s report of 11 February 2022 and the seven full and three interim results from Myschool (9 May 2022). The Allied Health accreditation visit is from the university’s news page (20 March 2026). The course name to register comes from Myschool’s reprint of Spiritan’s JAMB course list (17 courses). UTME, O’level and Direct Entry requirements are from Myschool’s reprint of the JAMB brochure entry for Accounting, which carries no Spiritan remark. The 150 national minimum, the four-week acceptance window and the 30 November 2026 private university deadline come from the News Agency of Nigeria (11 May 2026); the 2025/2026 figure of 150 is from Channels TV and Nairametrics (8 July 2025). The 140 figure for 2022 and the ₦20,000 acceptance fee are blog reports (SchoolNGR, 19 September 2022) and are unofficial. Safe target scores are my own advice. Checked on 29 October 2026; this page will be updated if Spiritan publishes a departmental cut-off or a new accreditation result.
