The OSISATECH Geological Technology cut-off mark is 100, JAMB’s national minimum for polytechnics, because Our Saviour Institute of Science and Technology, Enugu has never published its own figure for the course. Geological Technology is on JAMB’s course list for OSISATECH, so you can choose it on your JAMB form. What I could not confirm is that the school is still running the course: it is missing from every other OSISATECH course list I checked, so ask the school before you pay for anything.
2027/2028 update: OSISATECH cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.
This page gives the official figures with sources, a safe target score, the UTME subjects and O’level credits JAMB lists for polytechnic Geological Technology, how OSISATECH admits ND students, a worked example, the CAPS steps, what the two-year National Diploma covers and the courses I would keep as backups.

OSISATECH Geological Technology cut-off mark: the official figures
OSISATECH’s admission page sets out its O’level rule and says full-time ND applicants should write the UTME of that year, but it gives no minimum score for any course (osisat.edu.ng, last modified 10 February 2023). When a polytechnic publishes nothing, JAMB’s national floor is the figure that counts. JAMB kept that floor at 100 for 2026/2027 (NAN, 11 May 2026), the same as in 2025/2026 (Nairametrics, 8 July 2025).
| Session | Figure | Who set it | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2027/2028 | Not yet fixed; plan with 100 as the floor | JAMB | JAMB’s next policy meeting |
| 2026/2027 | 100 | JAMB national minimum for polytechnics | NAN, 11 May 2026 |
| 2025/2026 | 100 | JAMB national minimum for polytechnics | Nairametrics, 8 July 2025 |
| Any year | Not published | OSISATECH (for Geological Technology) | osisat.edu.ng admission page |
If a website quotes an OSISATECH departmental cut-off for Geological Technology, ask where it came from. I found no such figure from the school.
Safe target score (consultant advice)
I would aim for 130 or more. That is my planning number, not an OSISATECH figure. Geological Technology rarely draws the crowds that Computer Science or Mass Communication do, so 100 may well be enough on paper. A score of 130 gives you room if the school asks for more, and it keeps backups like Science Laboratory Technology open.
| Your UTME score | What it means for Geological Technology at OSISATECH |
|---|---|
| Below 100 | Not eligible for any polytechnic in Nigeria |
| 100 to 129 | Eligible; fine if the course is running and you hold all the credits |
| 130 to 159 | Comfortable |
| 160 and above | Strong; also opens IMT and state polytechnic options |
Is OSISATECH still running Geological Technology?
This is the question to settle first. The Myschool reprint of JAMB’s course list for OSISATECH includes Geological Technology among its 15 courses. Three other lists do not: the Wikipedia article on the school, the MySchoolGist course list and the Schoolings list of accredited OSISATECH courses (published 2018, last modified 2020). OSISATECH’s own course list page could not be opened when I checked.
A course can stay on JAMB’s list after a school has stopped admitting into it, so being on the list proves only that you can select it. Before you choose it, call at the school on Ogui Road or ask the admissions office in writing whether ND Geological Technology is taking students for the coming session. If they say no, change the course on your JAMB profile before CAPS admission starts, using JAMB change of course.
UTME subject combination for Geological Technology at OSISATECH
JAMB’s polytechnic brochure entry for Geological Technology lists Mathematics, Chemistry and Physics (brochure entry). Use of English is compulsory for every UTME candidate, so your four subjects are fixed. The entry carries remarks for only two schools, Ibadan Poly and Ede Poly, and none for OSISATECH, so the general rule applies to you.
| Subject | Status |
|---|---|
| Use of English | Compulsory for every UTME candidate |
| Mathematics | Compulsory |
| Chemistry | Compulsory |
| Physics | Compulsory |
| Biology or Geography | Not accepted as UTME subjects for this course |
Many students expect Geography to count because geology sounds close to it. In the UTME it does not. Geography and Biology can still count among your O’level credits. Our JAMB Chemistry syllabus is a good place to start revising, since Chemistry carries a lot of weight in this course.
O’level requirements for OSISATECH Geological Technology
The brochure asks for five credits in Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry plus any two from Geography, Biology, Agricultural Science, Economics, Basic Electronics, Further Mathematics and English Language, and it makes a credit in English Language compulsory. OSISATECH’s own page adds that results may come from not more than two sittings of WAEC, GCE, SSCE, NECO or NABTEB.
| Requirement | Detail |
|---|---|
| Number of credits | Five |
| Compulsory credits | English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry |
| Fifth credit (pick one) | Geography, Biology, Agricultural Science, Economics, Basic Electronics or Further Mathematics |
| Sittings | Not more than two |
| Exams accepted | WAEC, GCE, SSCE, NECO, NABTEB or equivalent |
Because English counts as one of the two extra subjects in the brochure, you really need only one more credit beyond the four compulsory ones. Geography is the most useful choice for this course.
Part-time ND, Direct Entry and HND
OSISATECH says its part-time ND does not require the UTME, which helps if you missed the exam. Holders of an NCE or ND can apply for year two, according to the admission page, and HND entry needs an ND from an accredited polytechnic. JAMB’s brochure gives no Direct Entry rule for this course. I found no evidence that OSISATECH runs an HND in Geological Technology; see our OSISATECH HND guide for the HND rules.
OSISATECH screening and a worked example
OSISATECH has not published a post-UTME test, screening fee or timetable for 2026/2027. The admission page tells applicants to buy forms at the school, #1 Ogui Road, Enugu. Private polytechnics in Enugu usually screen by checking your UTME score and O’level result, sometimes with a short interview, but OSISATECH has not described its method, so ask at the admissions office.
Worked example (illustrative)
Obinna scored 138 with English, Mathematics, Chemistry and Physics. His NECO result, one sitting, reads English C5, Mathematics C4, Physics C6, Chemistry B3, Geography B2. He clears JAMB’s 100 and my 130 target and holds every compulsory credit.
Many polytechnics rank ND applicants with a 50/50 mix of UTME and O’level. Using that only as an illustration: the UTME half is 138 ÷ 8 = 17.25. With A1 = 10, B2 = 9, B3 = 8, C4 = 7, C5 = 6 and C6 = 5, his five grades give 6 + 7 + 5 + 8 + 9 = 35. His illustrative total is 52.25 out of 100. OSISATECH has published no aggregate formula, so use this to compare yourself with others, not as the school’s method.
If Obinna had written Biology instead of Physics in the UTME, his score would not matter: the subject combination would be wrong for this course, and that is the most common reason science candidates lose a place they could have had.
How to apply for Geological Technology at OSISATECH
- Create your JAMB profile: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line you will use for JAMB. The reply is your profile code.
- Choose OSISATECH and Geological Technology: JAMB lists the school as Our Saviour Institute of Science, Agric & Tech. If you registered for another school, use a JAMB change of institution.
- Write the UTME: full-time ND applicants must sit the UTME of that year, according to the OSISATECH admission page. Then check your JAMB result.
- Upload your O’level to CAPS: do it at a JAMB accredited centre, and upload both results if you used two sittings. The school cannot recommend you on CAPS without them.
- Get the OSISATECH form: the admission page says forms are sold at the school, #1 Ogui Road, Enugu, and the school runs a student portal at osisatech.skool-board.com. No online application fee or screening date for 2026/2027 has been published, so pay only at the school or through a channel the school confirms in writing.
- Accept on CAPS: when OSISATECH recommends you and JAMB approves, accept the offer. JAMB’s 2026 rule is that an offer not accepted within four weeks can be withdrawn. Our JAMB CAPS guide shows each screen.
- Pay acceptance and register: print your JAMB admission letter, then pay the acceptance and school fees the polytechnic gives you, and ask for a receipt each time. OSISATECH has not published these amounts.
JAMB set 31 December 2026 as the 2026/2027 admission deadline for polytechnics, monotechnics and colleges of education, so the current cycle runs until 31 December 2026. A 2027 UTME candidate will be admitted in the 2027/2028 cycle under the dates JAMB announces next year.
Warning
Every valid full-time ND admission at OSISATECH must show on JAMB CAPS, and JAMB has said admissions outside CAPS are illegal. Do not pay anyone who promises a place outside CAPS, and confirm the course is running before you pay any fee.
Your chances of getting Geological Technology at OSISATECH
OSISATECH publishes no intake or applicant numbers, so this is my judgement. Geological Technology is a small course at most polytechnics, and a private polytechnic usually has more space than demand in courses like this. If the course is running, a first-choice candidate with the right four UTME subjects, 120 or more and all four compulsory credits should be in a good position. The real risks are a wrong subject combination, a missing Physics or Chemistry credit, and choosing a course the school is no longer admitting into.
| Backup option | JAMB listing | Why it fits |
|---|---|---|
| OSISATECH Science Laboratory Technology | Listed for OSISATECH | Same school; Chemistry and Physics carry over |
| OSISATECH Food Technology | Listed for OSISATECH | Same school; science based |
| IMT Geological Technology | Listed for IMT Enugu | Same UTME subjects; confirm IMT is admitting into it |
| OSISATECH Computer Engineering | Listed for OSISATECH | Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry also fit |
What you study in ND Geological Technology
OSISATECH has not published a course outline. A polytechnic ND in Geological Technology follows NBTE’s national curriculum, and the usual pattern is:
- Physical and historical geology: how rocks, minerals and landforms form
- Mineralogy and petrology, with hand-specimen and microscope work
- Field geology and geological mapping, including field trips
- Surveying, drawing and map reading
- Chemistry, physics and mathematics for geoscience
- Introductory hydrogeology, mining and engineering geology
- Communication in English, entrepreneurship and other general ND courses
Between the first and second year you do SIWES, an industrial attachment in a mining company, a borehole drilling firm, a geological survey office or a laboratory. Your ND is graded Distinction, Upper Credit, Lower Credit or Pass, and the grade decides HND entry, so do well from the first semester.
Duration and accreditation
A full-time ND takes two years (four semesters). NBTE approved OSISATECH to admit ND students in December 1991, according to the school, and the school appears as S/No 101 in NBTE’s 2020 Directory of Accredited Programmes as a private institution. Whether Geological Technology itself holds current NBTE accreditation at OSISATECH is not confirmed; the programme tables of that directory could not be read. Ask the department for its NBTE accreditation letter before paying school fees.

Mistakes to avoid
- Writing Geography or Biology in the UTME: JAMB’s combination for this course is Mathematics, Chemistry and Physics only.
- Having only a pass in English or Physics: both credits are compulsory, and OSISATECH has no waiver on the brochure.
- Assuming the course is running: it is on JAMB’s list, but confirm with the school first.
- Leaving your O’level off CAPS: the school cannot recommend you without it.
- Ignoring the four-week acceptance window on CAPS.
OSISATECH Geological Technology cut-off mark: FAQs
What is the cut-off mark for Geological Technology in OSISATECH? OSISATECH has not published one, so JAMB’s polytechnic minimum of 100 applies. I suggest 130 or more to be safe.
Can I write Geography instead of Physics for Geological Technology? No. JAMB’s polytechnic combination is Mathematics, Chemistry and Physics with Use of English. Geography can count as your fifth O’level credit.
Does OSISATECH still offer Geological Technology? It is on JAMB’s course list for OSISATECH, but it is missing from other OSISATECH course lists and the school’s own list could not be opened. Confirm with the school before you pay any fee.
Can I get into OSISATECH Geological Technology without JAMB? Full-time ND needs the UTME of that year. OSISATECH says its part-time ND does not, so ask whether Geological Technology is offered part-time.
Sources and updates
OSISATECH’s founding dates, NBTE’s 1991 approval and the admission rules (five credits, two sittings, UTME for full-time ND, forms at Ogui Road) come from the school’s own admission page and about page (admission page last modified 10 February 2023). The JAMB course list is the Myschool reprint of JAMB’s list for the school (15 courses, checked 30 October 2026). The institution entry (S/No 101, private, 1989/1991) is from the NBTE 2020 Directory of Accredited Programmes. UTME and O’level rules come from the JAMB polytechnic brochure entry for Geological Technology as reprinted by Myschool, which has remarks only for Ibadan Poly and Ede Poly. The other course lists checked were Wikipedia, MySchoolGist and Schoolings (2018, modified 2020). The 100 minimum, the 31 December 2026 polytechnic deadline, the four-week CAPS rule and the CAPS-only rule come from NAN (11 May 2026); the 2025/2026 figure is from Nairametrics (8 July 2025). Checked on 30 October 2026. We will update this page when OSISATECH publishes a 2027/2028 notice.
