Uma Ukpai Poly Admission Requirements 2027/2028: Courses and Cut-Off Mark

Uma Ukpai Polytechnic, Asaga admits ND candidates with JAMB’s polytechnic minimum of 100. See its five courses on JAMB’s list, UTME subjects, O’level credits, NBTE status and how to apply for 2027/2028.

Uma Ukpai Polytechnic admission requirements for the National Diploma come down to three things: a UTME score of at least 100, JAMB’s minimum for polytechnics; the right UTME subjects for your course; and five O’level credits including English Language and Mathematics. The polytechnic, at Asaga in Ohafia LGA of Abia State, has not published its own cut-off mark for any course in any year I could trace. JAMB’s list shows five ND courses for it: Accountancy, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical/Electronics Engineering Technology and Statistics.

2027/2028 update: Uma Ukpai Poly cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.

NBTE’s 2020 Directory of Accredited Programmes lists Uma Ukpai Polytechnic as a private polytechnic at Asaga, P.M.B. 2001, Ohafia, with 2017 as the year the government approved it. Wikipedia names the late evangelist Rev. Uma Ukpai (1945 to 2025), whose hometown was Asaga, as its proprietor. I could not find a working school website, a 2026/2027 admission notice, a fee list or screening details, so this page sticks to what JAMB and NBTE publish and tells you what to ask the school.

One caution about the course list. Myschool shows exactly the same five courses for Valley View Polytechnic, the other private polytechnic in Ohafia, and the same five also appear on Covenant Polytechnic’s list in Aba. That could be a coincidence, or the reprint could be using a default list. Check the course under Uma Ukpai Polytechnic on JAMB’s own e-brochure or registration portal before you choose it.

Uma Ukpai Poly cut-off mark: what the figures say

Any yearNoneUma Ukpai Polytechnic figure for any courseNo published figure in any source I found

JAMB kept the polytechnic floor at 100 for two years running. A polytechnic may set a higher mark for itself, but Uma Ukpai has never announced one that I could find. So 100 is the legal minimum you must have, and anything above it improves your position at screening.

Safe target scores (my advice)

These are my own targets, based on how small private polytechnics usually admit. Uma Ukpai publishes no merit lists or applicant numbers.

CourseLegal minimumMy safe target for 2027
Accountancy100120 or more
Computer Engineering100130 or more
Computer Science100130 or more
Electrical/Electronics Engineering Technology100125 or more
Statistics100120 or more

I set the computing and engineering courses higher because, in my experience, they draw more applicants than Accountancy or Statistics. If your score is between 100 and the target, you can still apply; your O’level and screening performance will matter more.

UTME subject combination for each Uma Ukpai Poly course

Use of English is compulsory for every UTME candidate, so the brochure only lists your other three subjects. I checked each course page on Myschool’s reprint of JAMB’s polytechnic brochure; none of the remarks names Uma Ukpai, so the base rule applies.

CourseUTME subjects besides Use of EnglishSource status
AccountancyMathematics and two of Geography, Commerce, Government, Principles of Accounts and EconomicsJAMB brochure; no Uma Ukpai remark
Computer EngineeringMathematics, Physics, ChemistryJAMB brochure; no Uma Ukpai remark
Computer ScienceMathematics and any two of Geography, Physics, Economics or ChemistryJAMB brochure; no Uma Ukpai remark
Electrical/Electronics Engineering TechnologyMathematics, Physics, ChemistryJAMB brochure; no Uma Ukpai remark
StatisticsMathematics and two science or social science subjects (see note below)Brochure page would not load; confirm on JAMB’s e-brochure

The Statistics page on Myschool’s brochure reprint loaded empty when I checked. For a guide, Federal Polytechnic Offa’s Statistics department asks for Mathematics and any two of Physics, Chemistry, Economics or Commerce, Geography, Computer Studies, Government and Biology or Agricultural Science. Federal Polytechnic Nekede uses Mathematics plus two of Physics, Chemistry, Economics, Biology or Agricultural Science and Geography. Mathematics with Economics and Physics fits both, so that is the safest pick until you confirm the JAMB line.

Computer Science trips up many candidates. Physics is optional in the UTME, but the O’level rule makes a Physics credit compulsory. Biology and Further Mathematics are not on the UTME list for this course.

O’level requirements for Uma Ukpai Polytechnic courses

CourseO’level credits (five in all)
AccountancyEnglish Language (not Literature) and Mathematics, plus three from Economics or Commerce, Business Methods, Principles of Accounts, Literature in English, Geography, Office Practice, Government, Biology or Agricultural Science, Chemistry, Physics, History, Typewriting, Shorthand
Computer EngineeringMathematics, Physics and Chemistry, plus two from Biology or Agricultural Science, Technical Drawing, Basic Electronics or Basic Electricity, Auto Mechanics, Metal Work, Woodwork, Further Mathematics, English Language, Geography, Economics or Commerce. The page also says a credit in English Language is required.
Computer ScienceMathematics, a basic science and three others from Economics, Geography, Government or History, Further Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Agricultural Science, English Language, Typewriting. English Language and Physics credits are compulsory.
Electrical/Electronics Engineering TechnologyMathematics, Physics and Chemistry, plus two from the same technical list as Computer Engineering
StatisticsNot readable on the brochure reprint. Offa’s department asks for English, Mathematics, at least one science and two other subjects.

For Electrical/Electronics, English sits on the optional list in the base rule. I would still get a credit in it, because the school’s general rule is likely to ask for English and Mathematics, as almost every Nigerian polytechnic does, and because a missing English credit closes the door to most other courses.

The school has published nothing on sittings or awaiting results. JAMB’s rule is simple: CAPS cannot offer you admission until your O’level result is uploaded, so have it on the portal before screening closes.

Direct Entry and HND

ND entry is through the UTME, and the brochure’s Direct Entry sections are blank for all these courses. Under the standard NBTE rule, an HND needs an ND, usually at Lower Credit or better, plus a year of industrial attachment, and you apply to the polytechnic directly. I found no evidence of HND courses at Uma Ukpai, so ask before you plan around one.

Screening at Uma Ukpai Polytechnic

Uma Ukpai has not published a screening notice, form price or timetable that I could find. Small private polytechnics usually sell a form at the admissions office, check documents and may run a short written test or interview. Ask the office these questions:

  • Is my course admitting for 2027/2028, and does it have NBTE accreditation?
  • How much is the form, where do I pay, and what is the closing date?
  • Is there a written test, and on which subjects?
  • What are the acceptance fee and first-year fees, and do you have hostels?

Worked example (illustrative)

Take Okoro, who wants Computer Science. He scored 134 in English, Mathematics, Physics and Economics. His WAEC result has credits in English, Mathematics, Physics, Economics, Biology and Civic Education from one sitting.

  1. JAMB minimum: 134 is 34 above 100, so he is eligible.
  2. My safe target: 134 clears my 130 line for Computer Science.
  3. UTME subjects: Mathematics, Physics and Economics fit the brochure line of Mathematics plus two of Geography, Physics, Economics and Chemistry.
  4. O’level: Mathematics, English and Physics are there, with Economics and Biology as the other two. Civic Education is not on the list, but he does not need it.

If the school used a 50:50 aggregate, 134 divided by 8 gives 16.75 out of 50, and 30 out of 50 at screening would bring him to 46.75. That formula is only an illustration. Uma Ukpai has not published one, and it may admit everyone who qualifies.

How to apply to Uma Ukpai Polytechnic, step by step

  1. Get your JAMB profile code: text NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the line linked to your NIN.
  2. Register the UTME with the right subjects: choose your course and pick Uma Ukpai Polytechnic, Asaga as your polytechnic. If you picked another school, do a JAMB change of institution before screening.
  3. Upload your O’level result to CAPS: visit an accredited JAMB CBT centre once your WAEC, NECO or NABTEB result is released.
  4. Contact the school: go to the polytechnic at Asaga, Ohafia, confirm your course is admitting, buy the form there and keep every receipt.
  5. Attend screening: take your UTME result slip, O’level result, birth certificate or age declaration, local government identification and passport photographs.
  6. Accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, open Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS, and accept. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status.
  7. Pay acceptance and register: get the amounts from the bursary in writing, pay through the channel the school names, then complete medical and departmental registration.

Warning

Uma Ukpai Polytechnic has no official website I could find, so any page, WhatsApp group or agent selling its forms online may have nothing to do with the school. Buy forms only at the school, and remember that JAMB treats any admission outside CAPS as illegal.

Your chances and my advice

  • If you meet the subject rules and score 100 or more, your main risk is that the course may not be running this year. Confirm that first.
  • Candidates from Ohafia, Arochukwu, Bende and nearby areas save on transport and housing by studying close to home, which matters for a two-year ND.
  • Ask to see the NBTE accreditation status of your course. An ND from a programme NBTE has not accredited may not be accepted when you apply for an HND.
  • JAMB told polytechnics to finish 2026/2027 admissions by 31 December 2026, so current candidates should check CAPS until then.

The five ND courses in brief

Uma Ukpai has not published course outlines. Under NBTE’s standard pattern, each ND takes two years full-time with a SIWES placement. Here is what each course generally covers in Nigerian polytechnics.

Sources and updates

The 2026/2027 polytechnic minimum of 100, the 31 December 2026 deadline and JAMB’s warning against admissions outside CAPS come from JAMB’s 2026 policy meeting as reported by the News Agency of Nigeria on 11 May 2026; the 2025/2026 figure of 100 is from Nairametrics (8 July 2025). The course list is the Myschool reprint of JAMB’s course list for Uma Ukpai Polytechnic, Asaga. UTME and O’level rules are from Myschool’s reprint of the JAMB polytechnic brochure pages for Accountancy, Computer Engineering, Computer Science and Electrical/Electronics Engineering Technology, none of which has an Uma Ukpai remark; the Statistics comparison uses Federal Polytechnic Offa’s department page and Federal Polytechnic Nekede’s brochure. The address, private ownership and 2017 approval year are from NBTE’s 2020 Directory of Accredited Programmes, and the proprietor detail is from Wikipedia’s article on Uma Ukpai.
