The Temple Gate Poly Urban and Regional Planning cut off mark you can rely on is 100 in the UTME, JAMB’s national minimum for polytechnics for 2026/2027. Temple Gate Polytechnic, Aba has not published its own cut-off for the ND in Urban and Regional Planning in any year I could trace. The one subject you cannot leave out for this course is Geography: JAMB’s polytechnic brochure fixes it in the UTME and at O’level.
2027/2028 update: Temple Gate Poly cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.
Temple Gate Polytechnic is a private polytechnic at Abayi, Osisioma, on the Aba side of Abia State. NBTE’s 2020 Directory of Accredited Programmes lists it as a private institution at P.O. Box 3448, Aba, with 2009 as the year the government approved it. On JAMB’s list it carries the short code TEMPLEGATEPOLY, and Myschool’s reprint of that list spells it Temple-gate Polytechnic. Type “Temple” in the institution box when you register and check the full name before you save, because other schools in the South East have similar names.

| JAMB minimum UTME score for polytechnics | 100 | Official, 2026/2027 (JAMB policy meeting, reported 11 May 2026) |
| Temple Gate cut-off for Urban and Regional Planning | Not published | No school figure found for any year |
| Course name on JAMB’s list | Urban and Regional Planning | Myschool reprint of JAMB’s course list for TEMPLEGATEPOLY |
| Level | National Diploma (ND) | Entry through the UTME and CAPS |
| UTME subjects | Use of English, Geography and two other subjects from the course requirements | JAMB polytechnic brochure base line; no Temple Gate remark |
| ND tuition reported | ₦55,000 a year (HND ₦70,000) | o3schools, 26 January 2026; unofficial |
| Form fee and screening date | Not published by the school | Blog figure for the form: ₦5,000 (ND) |
| JAMB deadline for 2026/2027 polytechnic admissions | 31 December 2026 | Official (JAMB, reported by NAN) |
Urban and Regional Planning is on the Myschool reprint of JAMB’s course list for Temple Gate, on an older schoolings.org list of the school’s courses (as Urban & Regional Planning), and on the o3schools fee list from January 2026 under the School of Industrial and Applied Science Technology. None of these is an admission notice from the polytechnic, so confirm the department is admitting for your year before you buy a form.
Urban and Regional Planning cut-off history at Temple Gate Poly
| Session | Figure | What it is | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2026/2027 | 100 | JAMB national minimum for polytechnics and monotechnics | Official |
| 2025/2026 | 100 | JAMB national minimum for polytechnics | Official (reported by Nairametrics, 8 July 2025) |
| Any year | None | Temple Gate figure for Urban and Regional Planning | Never published in any source I found |
JAMB kept the polytechnic minimum at 100 for two sessions in a row, and at its 2026 meeting it said the agreed marks must be strictly followed. A private polytechnic is free to set a higher mark for a course. Temple Gate has not announced one, and blog pages that quote a Temple Gate figure simply repeat JAMB’s 100. Until the school says otherwise, 100 is the floor and nothing published sits above it.
Safe target score for Urban and Regional Planning at Temple Gate (my advice)
Treat this table as an adviser’s judgement. Temple Gate has not released merit lists, applicant numbers or a ranking method, so nobody can give you real odds.
| Your UTME score | My read for ND Urban and Regional Planning at Temple Gate |
|---|---|
| Below 100 | Not eligible for any ND course through JAMB this session |
| 100 to 129 | Eligible; a place is possible if the department is admitting and your O’level is complete |
| 130 to 149 | Good chance. This is the range I would aim for. |
| 150 and above | Strong |
For 2027 I would aim for 130 or more. Planning attracts fewer applicants than the business and computing courses at most polytechnics, so your Geography credit and a sound subject combination will do more for you than chasing a very high score. That is my reading of polytechnic admissions in general, not a figure from Temple Gate.
UTME subject combination and O’level for Urban and Regional Planning at Temple Gate Poly
| Requirement | ND Urban and Regional Planning |
|---|---|
| UTME subjects | Use of English plus Geography and two other subjects from the course requirements (JAMB polytechnic brochure base line; no TEMPLEGATEPOLY remark) |
| O’level | Five credits in Mathematics, Geography and three others from English Language, Economics or Commerce, Fine Art or Technical Drawing, Further Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics, Biology or Agricultural Science, History or Government, and Business Methods or Book Keeping and Principles of Accounts |
| Also required at O’level | A credit in English Language, and one of the three other subjects must be a basic science |
| What Temple Gate is reported to ask | Five credits including English Language and Mathematics in not more than two sittings (schoolings.org, unofficial) |
| Direct Entry | Not applicable for ND; enter through the UTME |
The base line on the brochure page reads Geography plus two other subjects from the course requirements. The page does not print a separate UTME list, so the sensible reading is to take your other two from the subjects the course lists at O’level. I would pair Geography with Mathematics and Economics, or with Mathematics and Physics.
Remarks show how other schools adjust the rule. Kaduna Poly wants Mathematics and Geography plus one more; Yaba College of Technology names Mathematics, a science, Economics, Fine Art and Government as partners for Geography; Ken Saro-Wiwa Poly lets Economics stand in for Geography; and Federal Poly Nekede asks for Mathematics, Chemistry and Physics instead. Temple Gate is not named in any remark, so for TEMPLEGATEPOLY you work from the base line, and Geography stays compulsory.
At O’level, Mathematics and Geography are named in the general text. The page adds that a credit in English Language is compulsory and that one of your other three subjects must be a basic science (Biology, Chemistry or Physics). The five credits I would target are English, Mathematics, Geography, Economics and Physics or Biology.
Some admission guides list Physics as compulsory for planning and leave Geography out. The brochure entry as reprinted says the opposite: Geography is the fixed subject and Physics is optional.
Direct Entry and the HND route
You enter an ND through the UTME; JAMB’s Direct Entry route is for degree programmes, and the brochure page for this course has a Direct Entry heading with nothing under it. After the ND, the standard NBTE path is a year of industrial attachment and then an HND, normally with at least a Lower Credit. One schoolings.org page says Temple Gate wants an Upper Credit for HND entry, which is stricter than the NBTE minimum and is not confirmed by the school. The o3schools fee list gives an HND tuition figure for the school that houses Urban and Regional Planning, which suggests an HND stream, but Temple Gate has not published its HND course list.
How Temple Gate Poly screening works
I found no official screening notice from Temple Gate for 2026/2027 or any earlier session. What is online comes from admission blogs, so use it as a list of things to ask the school about:
- A schoolings.org page on Temple Gate (last modified September 2020) says candidates should be at least 16 in the year of admission and hold five O’level credits, including English Language and Mathematics, in not more than two sittings.
- A later schoolings.org requirements page (March 2026) repeats a UTME score of at least 100, but part of its text was copied from another polytechnic’s page, so I give it little weight.
- An o3schools post (26 January 2026) puts the ND form at ₦5,000, ND acceptance at ₦15,000 and ND tuition for Urban and Regional Planning at ₦55,000, and says fees are not refunded. It cites no official source beyond a link to a tuition page I could not open.
- The screening format (a test, an interview or a document check) and the dates are not published anywhere I could reach.
Worked example (illustrative)
Take Kelechi, who scored 118 in English, Geography, Mathematics and Economics, with credits in English, Mathematics, Geography, Economics and Biology across two sittings (WAEC and NECO).
- Eligibility: 118 minus 100 = 18. He clears JAMB’s polytechnic minimum.
- Against my safe target: 130 minus 118 = 12. He is eligible, with a possible place if the department is admitting.
- UTME combination: Geography plus Mathematics and Economics fits the base line.
- O’level check: Mathematics and Geography, plus English, Economics and a basic science (Biology), make five credits. Two sittings are within the limit blogs report for Temple Gate, but confirm with the school.
- Screening: if the school sets a test, he revises Geography, Mathematics and English at SSCE level.
Many polytechnics rank applicants by adding a share of the UTME score to a screening score. Only to show how that can work: dividing the UTME score by 8 gives a mark out of 50, and a screening score out of 50 is added. Kelechi’s 118 gives 14.75, and 33 out of 50 at screening would make 47.75 out of 100. Temple Gate has not published any formula, and many private polytechnics admit every eligible candidate who completes the process, so read this as a picture of how both scores could count.
How to apply for Urban and Regional Planning at Temple Gate Poly, step by step
- Get your JAMB profile code: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN.
- Register the UTME: choose Urban and Regional Planning with Use of English, Geography, Mathematics and Economics or Physics, and pick Temple Gate Polytechnic as your polytechnic choice. If you picked another school, do a JAMB change of institution before Temple Gate screens applicants.
- Upload your O’level to CAPS: do it at a JAMB CBT centre once your WAEC, NECO or NABTEB result is out. JAMB cannot consider you for admission until it is there.
- Get the Temple Gate form through a confirmed channel: visit or call the admissions office in Aba, ask for the current form price, the closing date and the screening date, and keep every receipt.
- Attend screening: take your UTME result slip, O’level result, birth certificate or age declaration, and passport photographs.
- Accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, open Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS, and accept the offer there. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status.
- Pay the acceptance fee and register: get the acceptance and tuition amounts in writing from the bursary before you pay, then complete the medical test and departmental registration.
Warning
Temple Gate Polytechnic has no official website I could confirm, so a page or WhatsApp group that looks official may belong to an agent. JAMB says admissions outside CAPS are illegal. A genuine offer always shows on your CAPS page, and nobody can sell you a guaranteed place.
Your chances of admission into Urban and Regional Planning
- Without Geography in the UTME and a Geography credit at O’level, you fall outside the brochure rule for Temple Gate.
- The next risk is the basic science credit: Geography, Economics and Government alone do not cover it.
- With 120 or more and the right credits, I think you are in a good position at a private polytechnic.
- If planning is not admitting, Estate Management and Valuation at Temple Gate takes Mathematics plus two of Economics, Arts, Physics, Chemistry and Biology, so a Geography candidate may need to adjust. Urban and Regional Planning at Abia State Polytechnic is the nearest public option.
- JAMB’s deadline for 2026/2027 polytechnic admissions is 31 December 2026, so if you are in the current cycle, keep checking CAPS until then.
Studying Urban and Regional Planning at Temple Gate Poly
Urban and Regional Planning trains you to plan how land in towns and rural areas is used: where housing, roads, markets, schools and open spaces go, and how building is controlled. Temple Gate has not published its course outline, so this is a general picture of the ND.
- Core areas: planning principles and history, land use planning, site planning and layout design, housing and transport planning.
- Technical skills: planning drawing and graphics, elementary surveying, map reading and cartography, and an introduction to GIS.
- Environment: physical and human geography, environmental studies and rural development.
- Support courses: statistics, economics, computing and communication.
- Industrial training: a SIWES placement with a planning authority, a ministry of lands or a planning consultancy.
Duration and accreditation
The usual NBTE pattern is two years of full-time study for the ND, with SIWES industrial training built in. Temple Gate has not confirmed its own durations. NBTE’s directory lists the polytechnic as a private institution approved in 2009, but I could not confirm the accreditation status of Urban and Regional Planning itself, because the programme tables were not readable in the copies I reached. This matters if you plan an HND elsewhere, since many polytechnics want an ND from an accredited programme. Ask the department for its NBTE accreditation letter before you pay tuition.
Careers
- Planning assistant in state and local government planning offices
- Development control and building approval work
- GIS and mapping support
- Planning and environmental consultancies
- Further study: HND in Urban and Regional Planning, or a degree
Town planners in Nigeria are registered by the Town Planners Registration Council of Nigeria (TOPREC), and the Nigerian Institute of Town Planners (NITP) is the professional body. The ND is a technician-level start; full registration needs more study and the professional examinations.

Mistakes Urban and Regional Planning applicants make
- Leaving Geography out of the UTME: it is the one fixed subject for this course.
- Copying Nekede’s combination: Mathematics, Chemistry and Physics is a remark for Federal Poly Nekede only, not the rule at Temple Gate.
- Missing the basic science credit: one of your O’level subjects outside Mathematics and Geography must be Biology, Chemistry or Physics.
- Ignoring English: the general list does not start with it, but the page makes an English credit compulsory.
- Paying an agent for a place: admission is only real when it shows on CAPS.

The 2026/2027 polytechnic minimum of 100, the 31 December 2026 admission deadline and JAMB’s warning against admissions outside CAPS come from JAMB’s 2026 policy meeting as reported by the News Agency of Nigeria on 11 May 2026; the 2025/2026 figure of 100 is from Nairametrics (8 July 2025). The course list and the TEMPLEGATEPOLY code are from the Myschool reprint of JAMB’s course list for Temple Gate Polytechnic. The UTME subjects, O’level rules and polytechnic remarks for Urban and Regional Planning are from the JAMB polytechnic brochure entry as reprinted by Myschool; no remark on that page names Temple Gate or TEMPLEGATEPOLY. The address, private ownership and 2009 approval year are from NBTE’s 2020 Directory of Accredited Programmes. The age rule and the general five-credit rule are from a schoolings.org Temple Gate page (last modified September 2020), and the fee figures are from an o3schools post (26 January 2026); both are unofficial. The safe target score and the worked example are my own advice. Checked on 29 October 2026. This page will be updated when Temple Gate publishes a 2027/2028 notice.
