The Clifford University Library and Information Science cut-off mark is 150 in the UTME. Clifford University, Owerrinta states 150 as its general cut-off on its 2026/2027 admission notice, the same as JAMB’s national minimum for universities, and it has not published a separate figure for the B.LIS. So 150 is the official floor. This is also one of the most flexible courses on JAMB’s list: the brochure accepts any three UTME subjects alongside Use of English.
2027/2028 update: Clifford University cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.
Library and Information Science is one of eight Clifford programmes the NUC fully accredited after its 2022 exercise. Clifford places it oddly across its own pages, which I explain below, along with a safe target score (marked as my advice), the subject rules from JAMB’s brochure, Direct Entry, screening, fees, the CAPS steps and where the degree leads.
Clifford University Library and Information Science cut-off mark: the official position
| Item | Position | Source or status |
|---|---|---|
| JAMB minimum for universities (2026/2027) | 150 | JAMB policy meeting, 11 May 2026 |
| Clifford University general cut-off | 150 | Clifford homepage admission notice, 2026/2027 |
| Clifford cut-off for Library and Information Science | Not published separately | No course-level figure on any official page |
| Course name to register on JAMB | Library and Information Science | Myschool reprint of JAMB’s Clifford course list |
| UTME subjects | Use of English plus any three subjects | JAMB brochure (Myschool reprint) |
| O’level | Five credits including English and Mathematics plus three relevant subjects | JAMB brochure |
| NUC accreditation | Full (Nov/Dec 2022 exercise) | Clifford news, 21 March 2023 |
| Approved programme amount for 2026/2027 | N825,500 | Clifford fees page |
Clifford University is the private Seventh-day Adventist university at Ihie, near Owerrinta, in Abia State. Its 2026/2027 notice says admission is in progress, the JAMB cut-off is 150, and candidates come in through UTME, Direct Entry or transfer.
Which faculty is Library and Information Science in?
Clifford’s pages do not agree. The undergraduate requirements page lists the course under the Faculty of Science. The 2026/2027 fees page lists it with the Management and Social Sciences programmes at N825,500. JAMB’s brochure files it under Education. None of this changes how you apply: register the JAMB course name “Library and Information Science” with Clifford as your institution, and the degree you study for is the B.LIS, as Clifford named it in its accreditation announcement.
Clifford Library and Information Science cut-off history
| Session | Figure | What it is | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2026/2027 | 150 | Clifford general cut-off, equal to the JAMB minimum | Official: Clifford homepage and JAMB 2026 policy meeting |
| 2025/2026 | 150 | JAMB national minimum for universities | JAMB 2025 policy meeting |
| Any session | None | A Clifford cut-off for Library and Information Science alone | Not published in any source I reached |
An admissions blog wrote in October 2025 that Clifford invites candidates with 130 and above, including those who did not pick it first. That post came out before the 2026 UTME, cites no Clifford notice, and sits below the 150 Clifford now states on its own homepage, so do not plan around 130. News Central printed the full list of cut-offs that institutions declared at JAMB’s 2026 policy meeting, and Clifford is not on it, so there is no separate policy-meeting figure to quote either.
Safe target score for Library and Information Science at Clifford (my advice)
Library and Information Science does not draw the crowds that Nursing or Law do, and at a private university the applicant pool is smaller still. A candidate at or a little above 150 with complete O’level results has a reasonable chance. These bands are my reading as an admissions adviser, not a Clifford figure.
| Your UTME score | My read for Clifford Library and Information Science |
|---|---|
| Below 150 | Not eligible for any Clifford degree course |
| 150 to 159 | Eligible; complete O’level and an early application matter most |
| 160 to 179 | Good chance |
| 180 and above | Strong |
For the 2027 UTME I would aim for 165 or more. That leaves room if Clifford tightens its screening, and it keeps the course open at several public universities that offer it.
UTME subject combination and O’level for Clifford Library and Information Science
| Requirement | What applies | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Course name on JAMB | Library and Information Science | Myschool reprint of JAMB’s Clifford course list |
| UTME subjects (JAMB) | Use of English plus any three subjects | JAMB brochure (Myschool reprint) |
| JAMB’s O’level rule | Five credits including English Language, Mathematics and three other relevant Arts, Science or Social Science subjects | JAMB brochure |
| Clifford-specific rule | None published; the course appears on Clifford’s requirements page without details | Clifford requirements page |
| Sittings | Not more than two (Clifford’s general rule) | Clifford requirements page |
| Exams accepted | WAEC, NECO or NABTEB (SSCE or GCE) or equivalent | Clifford requirements page |
JAMB’s general rule is any three subjects with Use of English, and several universities have their own remarks on the brochure page (ABU, ATBU, IBBU, MOUAU and others). Clifford has none, so the general rule applies. That freedom is useful, but use it well. Pick the three subjects you score highest in, and if you have a second-choice course in mind, choose subjects that also fit it, so a change of course stays possible.
| If your strength is | A combination that works | Also fits (check the brochure) |
|---|---|---|
| Arts | Literature in English, Government, CRS | Mass Communication, English, CRS |
| Social sciences | Economics, Government, Mathematics | Economics, Public Administration, Business Administration |
| Sciences | Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or Biology | Computer Science, Information Technology, other sciences |
The O’level rule is where you must be careful. JAMB’s standard text names English Language and Mathematics among the five credits, so a pass in Mathematics is a problem even though some universities waive it in their own remarks. Clifford has no such waiver. If Mathematics is your weak point, write NECO or the WAEC GCE and combine results, within two sittings.
Direct Entry into Library and Information Science at Clifford
Clifford has not published Direct Entry rules for this course. JAMB’s general text accepts either:
- Two A-level passes in relevant subjects, plus the UTME O’level requirements
- An NCE at merit level in relevant subjects
Several universities also accept an ND in Library and Information Science through their own brochure remarks, but Clifford has no remark, so an ND holder should confirm with Clifford’s admissions office before registering for Direct Entry.
Clifford’s Transfer and Direct Entry page sets three general rules: Direct Entry students start at 200 level, they must present a complete transcript or statement of result before admission, and all of them write a university screening test unless they hold JUPEB. Clifford runs its own JUPEB (Foundation) programme, which is one way into 200 level if you have no A-levels.
Clifford Post-UTME screening for Library and Information Science
Clifford has not published a screening date, fee or format for this course in any source I reached. Its requirements page tells applicants to come in through Post-UTME or Direct Entry, its Direct Entry page says all Direct Entry candidates write a screening test except JUPEB holders, and applications go through soap.clifforduni.edu.ng. An October 2025 blog claimed the form was free and that an aptitude test date would follow; Clifford’s own site does not say so, so ask before you pay anyone.
Worked example (illustrative only)
Clifford publishes no aggregate formula. The example below uses the 50:50 method common at Nigerian universities (UTME divided by 8, plus half of the screening percentage). It is my illustration, not Clifford’s.
- Chidinma: UTME 168 with Literature, Government and CRS, five credits including English and Mathematics at one sitting, 60% at screening. 168 divided by 8 is 21; half of 60 is 30. Illustrative aggregate: 51.
- Emeka: UTME 154 (19.25) and 70% at screening (35). Aggregate 54.25, ahead of Chidinma with 14 fewer UTME marks.
- Precious: UTME 190, but only a pass in Mathematics. JAMB’s rule names Mathematics among the credits, so she needs another sitting first.
- Ngozi: NCE at merit in relevant subjects, applying through Direct Entry. She enters at 200 level after Clifford’s Direct Entry screening test.
Clifford University Library and Information Science school fees and acceptance fee
Clifford posts its fees by programme on its website under the heading “Approved school fees for 2026/2027 academic session”. The programme figures are labelled only “amount”, so treat each one as the yearly charge for the course and ask the bursary what it covers. Hostel, feeding and medical charges are not listed on that page.
| Item | Amount (2026/2027) | Who pays |
|---|---|---|
| Acceptance fee | N150,000 | New students, once |
| Matriculation fee | N50,000 | 100 level only |
| Library and Information Science programme amount | N825,500 | Each session |
| Management and Social Sciences courses (for example Economics, Mass Communication) | N825,500 | For comparison |
| Faculty of Science courses (for example Computer Science) | N845,000 | For comparison |
| Computer Science Education, Guidance and Counselling | N819,000 | For comparison |
On 2026/2027 figures, a 100-level Library and Information Science student paying acceptance, matriculation and the programme amount needs N1,025,500 before hostel, feeding, books and personal costs. Clifford allows full payment or 60% in the first semester and 40% in the second. The bank account is printed on the fees page; copy it from that page yourself, never from a forwarded message. Library and Information Science is among the cheaper Clifford degrees, well below the health courses.
How to apply for Library and Information Science at Clifford, step by step
- Get your JAMB profile code: text NIN, a space, then your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone number linked to your NIN.
- Register for the UTME: choose Library and Information Science with Use of English and the three subjects you are strongest in. Pick Clifford University as your institution. If you chose another school, do a JAMB change of institution before admission closes.
- Upload your O’level to CAPS: do it at a JAMB office or accredited CBT centre with your WAEC, NECO or NABTEB details. Clifford cannot recommend you on CAPS without it, and awaiting-result candidates must upload as soon as the result is out.
- Apply on Clifford’s portal: go to soap.clifforduni.edu.ng (the Apply Now button on clifforduni.edu.ng leads there), create an account, choose Library and Information Science, complete the form and keep your printout.
- Confirm screening: call the admissions lines on Clifford’s homepage (08036970755 or 07034871571) and ask when and how Library and Information Science candidates will be screened.
- Accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, choose Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS. In 2026 JAMB gave candidates four weeks to accept an offer. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status.
- Pay acceptance and clear: the 2026/2027 acceptance fee was N150,000 and the matriculation fee N50,000. Pay through the official account, then bring your original documents for clearance.
Warning
Clifford University has publicly warned that people pose as its staff. Pay only into the account on Clifford’s official fees page, ignore anyone selling a guaranteed place, and remember that a real offer always shows on JAMB CAPS.
Studying Library and Information Science at Clifford University
The degree is the Bachelor of Library and Information Science (B.LIS). It normally takes four years in Nigeria, or three through Direct Entry at 200 level; Clifford’s requirements page does not state the length, so confirm it with the department.
Is Clifford Library and Information Science accredited?
Yes, by the NUC. Clifford announced on 21 March 2023 that the NUC granted full accreditation to “B.LIS. Library and Information Science” and seven other programmes after the November and December 2022 exercise. Librarians in Nigeria are registered by the Librarians’ Registration Council of Nigeria (LRCN). I found no published LRCN statement about Clifford’s programme, so LRCN status is not confirmed; ask the department how its graduates register.
What you study
- Foundations: introduction to libraries and information science, use of the library, and general studies.
- Organising information: cataloguing and classification, indexing and abstracting.

Mistakes Library and Information Science applicants make
- Ignoring Mathematics: the UTME is flexible, but JAMB’s O’level rule names Mathematics among the five credits.
- Treating 150 as admission: it is only the minimum to be considered.
- Choosing weak UTME subjects because “any three” is allowed: your total still decides your place.
- Leaving Clifford off your JAMB choices: Clifford cannot offer you admission on CAPS until it is one of your institutions.
- Stopping at CAPS acceptance: you still pay acceptance and complete clearance.

Sources and updates
JAMB’s UTME, O’level and Direct Entry rules for Library and Information Science are from Myschool’s reprint of the JAMB brochure (filed under Education, with remarks for other universities and none for Clifford), and Myschool’s list of Clifford’s JAMB courses shows the course under that name. Clifford’s undergraduate admission requirements page (undated, checked 29 October 2026) lists the course under Science without details and gives the general five-credit, two-sitting rule. Full NUC accreditation is from Clifford’s news item “Accreditation of Eight More Degree Programmes for CLU” (21 March 2023). The general cut-off of 150, routes, portal and phone lines are from the Clifford University homepage, which also carries the May 2024 impostor warning. Fees are from Clifford’s approved fees page for 2026/2027. The Direct Entry screening rule is from Clifford’s Transfer and Direct Entry page, and the library facilities from Clifford’s University Library page. The national minimum of 150 and the four-week CAPS window come from the News Agency of Nigeria (11 May 2026); News Central’s list of declared cut-offs does not include Clifford. The safe target score, subject combinations and worked example are my own guidance. Checked on 29 October 2026; this page will be updated if Clifford publishes course requirements or a screening notice.
