The Clifford University cut-off mark for Microbiology is 150 in the UTME. Clifford University, Owerrinta states 150 as its general cut-off on its 2026/2027 admission notice, the same as JAMB’s national minimum for universities, and it has not published a separate figure for the B.Sc. Microbiology. So 150 is the official floor: reach it, choose Clifford, hold five credits in English, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology and Physics, and you can apply.
2027/2028 update: Clifford University cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.
Microbiology sits in Clifford’s Faculty of Science. Below are the official figures, a safe target score (labelled as my advice), the subject combination checked against both JAMB’s brochure and Clifford’s own page, the Direct Entry routes, what is known about screening, the 2026/2027 fees, the CAPS steps and what the degree leads to.
Clifford University cut-off mark for Microbiology: the official position

|---|---|---|
| JAMB minimum for universities (2026/2027) | 150 | JAMB policy meeting, 11 May 2026 |
| Clifford University general cut-off | 150 | Clifford homepage admission notice, 2026/2027 |
| Clifford cut-off for Microbiology | Not published separately | No course-level figure on any official page |
| Departmental merit cut-off | Not published | Clifford does not release last admitted scores |
| UTME subjects | Use of English, Biology, Chemistry and Physics or Mathematics | JAMB brochure (Myschool reprint) and Clifford requirements page |
| O’level | Five credits: English, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology and Physics; at most two sittings | Clifford requirements page |
| Approved programme amount for 2026/2027 | N845,000 | Clifford fees page |

This page is about Clifford University, the private Seventh-day Adventist university at Ihie, near Owerrinta, in Abia State. Its 2026/2027 admission notice says the JAMB cut-off is 150 and that candidates come in through UTME, Direct Entry or transfer. It gives no separate figure for Microbiology, so 150 is the number every UTME applicant for this course has to reach.
Clifford Microbiology cut-off history
| Session | Figure | What it is | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2026/2027 | 150 | Clifford general cut-off, same as the JAMB minimum | Official, Clifford homepage and JAMB 2026 policy meeting |
| 2025/2026 | 150 | JAMB national minimum for universities | JAMB 2025 policy meeting |
| Any session | None | A Clifford cut-off for Microbiology alone | Not published in any source I reached |
One admissions blog wrote in October 2025 that Clifford invites candidates with 130 and above who did not pick it as first choice. That post appeared before the 2026 UTME, cites no university notice, and sits below the 150 that Clifford itself now states, so do not plan around 130. A July 2025 Myschool news item on Clifford’s 2025/2026 screening gave no score at all. News Central published the full list of cut-offs that institutions declared at JAMB’s 2026 policy meeting, and Clifford is not on it, so there is no separate policy-meeting figure to quote.
Safe target score for Microbiology at Clifford (my advice)
Microbiology draws many candidates who also wanted Medicine, Nursing or Medical Laboratory Science, so the pool at most universities is stronger than the course’s reputation suggests. Clifford’s pool is smaller than the federal and state universities in the South East, which helps you. These bands are my reading as an admissions adviser. Clifford has not published them.
| Your UTME score | My read for Clifford Microbiology |
|---|---|
| Below 150 | Not eligible for any Clifford degree course |
| 150 to 164 | Eligible; your O’level and an early application carry you |
| 165 to 189 | Good chance |
| 190 and above | Strong |
For the 2027 UTME, I would aim for 175 or more. That score also keeps Microbiology open at several state universities if Clifford is one of a few options for you.
UTME subject combination and O’level for Clifford Microbiology
| Requirement | What applies | Source |
|---|---|---|
| UTME subjects (JAMB) | Use of English, Biology, Chemistry and either Physics or Mathematics | JAMB brochure (Myschool reprint) |
| UTME subjects (Clifford) | English Language, Biology, Chemistry and either Physics or Mathematics | Clifford requirements page |
| JAMB’s O’level rule | Five credits in English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology and Physics | JAMB brochure |
| Clifford’s O’level rule | Five credits in English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology and Physics | Clifford requirements page |
| Sittings | Not more than two | Clifford requirements page |
| Exams accepted | WAEC, NECO or NABTEB (SSCE or GCE) or equivalent | Clifford requirements page |
Here JAMB and Clifford say the same thing, which makes your choice simple. Biology and Chemistry are fixed. For the fourth subject, pick the one you score better in: Physics or Mathematics both count. If you are torn, I would lean to Physics only if you are already strong in it, because a weak fourth subject drags your total down more than it helps.
The O’level list is where candidates get caught. All five subjects are named, so Physics must be a credit too. Many Biology students take Physics lightly in SS3 and end up with a D7. If that is you, write NECO or WAEC GCE again and combine the two results (two sittings at most).
JAMB’s brochure entry for Microbiology carries no remark specific to Clifford University, so the general JAMB rule and Clifford’s own page are the two things to satisfy.
Direct Entry into Microbiology at Clifford
Direct Entry candidates join at 200 level. For Microbiology, Clifford’s page accepts one of these, in addition to the O’level requirements:
- Two A-level passes not below grade C in Chemistry and one of Physics or Biology
- ND or HND at upper credit in a related field, such as Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Biology, Microbiology, Science Laboratory Technology, Physics or Geology
JAMB’s general rule for Direct Entry into Microbiology is two A-level passes in Chemistry and one of Biology, Zoology or Botany. Clifford also accepts Physics as the second A-level, but JAMB’s list does not include it, so Chemistry with Biology is the pairing that satisfies both. JAMB’s general text does not mention ND or HND for this course, so if you hold an SLT or Microbiology diploma, check JAMB’s e-brochure during DE registration and call Clifford before you pay.
Clifford’s Transfer and Direct Entry page adds three general rules: Direct Entry students start at 200 level, they must present a complete transcript or statement of result before admission, and all of them sit a university screening test except JUPEB candidates. Clifford runs its own JUPEB programme, which is one way into 200 level if you have no A-levels.
Clifford Post-UTME screening for Microbiology
Clifford has not published a screening date, fee or test format for Microbiology in any source I could reach. Its own pages confirm two things: the undergraduate requirements page tells applicants to come in through Post-UTME or Direct Entry, and the Direct Entry page says every Direct Entry candidate sits a screening test unless they hold JUPEB. Online applications go through the portal at soap.clifforduni.edu.ng.
A blog post from October 2025 said the form was free and that candidates would write an aptitude test on a date to be announced. Neither point appears on Clifford’s website, so ask the admissions office before you pay anyone for a form.
Worked example (illustrative only)
Clifford publishes no aggregate formula. The example below compares scores with the 150 floor and my target, and, in case a test is set, it uses the 50:50 method common at Nigerian universities (UTME divided by 8, plus half of the screening percentage). This is my illustration only.
- Ngozi: UTME 181 with credits in English, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology and Physics in one sitting. She is 31 above the floor and 6 above my target.
- If there is a test: Ngozi scores 62%. 181 divided by 8 is 22.63; half of 62 is 31. Her illustrative aggregate is 53.63.
- Emeka: UTME 166 (20.75) and 76% at screening (38). His aggregate is 58.75, ahead of Ngozi with 15 fewer UTME marks.
- Chioma: UTME 214, but a D7 in Physics. Clifford lists Physics among the five credits, so her score cannot carry her until she fixes it.
Get all five science credits in place first, then prepare for a short test in English, Biology and Chemistry in case Clifford sets one.
Clifford University Microbiology school fees and acceptance fee
Clifford posts its approved fees by programme on its website, under the heading “Approved school fees for 2026/2027 academic session”. The programme figures are labelled only “amount”, so treat them as the yearly charge for the course and ask the bursary what they cover, especially hostel and feeding, which the page does not list.
| Item | Amount (2026/2027) | Who pays |
|---|---|---|
| Acceptance fee | N150,000 | New students, once |
| Matriculation fee | N50,000 | 100 level only |
| Microbiology programme amount | N845,000 | Each session |
| Other Faculty of Science courses (for example Computer Science, Physics, Microbiology) | N845,000 | For comparison |
| Nursing Science and Medical Laboratory Science | N1,740,000 and N1,560,000 | For comparison |
In 2026/2027 terms, a 100-level Microbiology student paying acceptance, matriculation and the programme amount needs N1,045,000 before hostel, feeding, books and personal costs. Clifford lets you pay the programme amount in full, or 60% for the first semester and 40% for the second. The bank account is printed on the fees page; copy it from that page yourself rather than from a message someone forwards to you.
How to apply for Microbiology at Clifford, step by step
- Get your JAMB profile code: text NIN, a space, then your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone number linked to your NIN.
- Register for the UTME: choose Microbiology with Use of English, Biology, Chemistry and Physics or Mathematics, and pick Clifford University. If Clifford was not your choice, do a JAMB change of institution before admission closes.
- Upload your O’level to CAPS: at a JAMB office or accredited CBT centre, with your WAEC, NECO or NABTEB details. Clifford cannot offer you admission on CAPS without it.
- Apply on Clifford’s portal: go to soap.clifforduni.edu.ng (the Apply Now button on clifforduni.edu.ng leads there), create your account, choose Microbiology, fill the form and keep your printout.
- Confirm screening: call the admissions lines on Clifford’s homepage (08036970755 or 07034871571) and ask when and how Microbiology candidates will be screened.
- Accept on CAPS: on efacility.jamb.gov.ng, choose Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS. In 2026 JAMB gave candidates four weeks to accept an offer. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status.
- Pay acceptance and fees, then clear: the 2026/2027 acceptance fee was N150,000 and the matriculation fee N50,000. Pay through the official account, then bring your original documents for clearance.
Warning
Clifford University has publicly warned that people pose as its staff. Pay only into the account on Clifford’s official fees page, ignore anyone selling a guaranteed place, and remember that a real offer always shows on JAMB CAPS.
Studying Microbiology at Clifford University
Microbiology is a four-year B.Sc. in Clifford’s Faculty of Science, or three years through Direct Entry at 200 level. Clifford’s fifth convocation, reported by AllAfrica in October 2024, listed four first-class graduates from Microbiology, one of the three departments named for first-class results that year.
Is Clifford Microbiology accredited?
Yes. NUC’s accreditation report for Clifford’s Microbiology programme shows Full accreditation with a score of 88.40%, after a panel visit from 10 to 12 December 2024. Microbiology was not among the eight programmes Clifford announced as fully accredited in March 2023, because that list matched the eight courses Clifford introduced in 2022/2023, while Microbiology is one of the older programmes Clifford already ran. This result came later and is from NUC’s own report. Accreditation affects NYSC mobilisation and how employers and postgraduate schools read your degree, so confirm with the department that the status is still current before you pay fees.
What you study
- Foundations: general biology, chemistry, physics and mathematics in 100 level, then cell biology and microbial genetics.
- Core microbiology: bacteriology, virology, mycology and parasitology.
- Applied areas: food and industrial microbiology, environmental microbiology, and immunology.
- Laboratory work: culture techniques, staining, sterilisation and biosafety, plus biostatistics.
- Practice: industrial training (SIWES) and a final-year research project.
Graduates work in food and beverage quality control, pharmaceutical production, water treatment, public health laboratories, research institutes and teaching. Some move on to postgraduate study in medical microbiology, biotechnology or public health. If your long-term goal is to work as a medical laboratory scientist in a hospital, note that the MLSCN licence comes through a BMLS degree, which Clifford also runs.

Mistakes Microbiology applicants make
- Treating 150 as admission: it is only the minimum to be considered.
- Ignoring Physics in O’level: Microbiology needs a Physics credit even if you never write Physics in the UTME.
- Leaving Clifford off your JAMB choices: Clifford cannot offer you admission on CAPS until it is one of your institutions, so do a change of institution in time.
- Using three sittings: Clifford allows not more than two.
- Stopping at CAPS acceptance: you still pay acceptance and complete clearance.

Clifford’s UTME subjects, O’level list, two-sitting rule and Direct Entry options for Microbiology come from its undergraduate admission requirements page (undated, checked 29 October 2026). JAMB’s UTME, O’level and Direct Entry rules for Microbiology are from Myschool’s reprint of the JAMB brochure, which carries no Clifford remark, and Myschool’s list of Clifford’s JAMB courses shows Microbiology under that name. The general cut-off of 150, the admission routes, the portal and the admissions phone numbers come from the Clifford University homepage (checked 29 October 2026), which also carries the May 2024 impostor warning. The acceptance, matriculation and programme fees and the 60/40 payment option are from Clifford’s approved fees page for 2026/2027. The Direct Entry screening rule and 200-level entry come from Clifford’s Transfer and Direct Entry page. The national minimum of 150 and the four-week CAPS window come from the News Agency of Nigeria (11 May 2026); News Central’s list of declared cut-offs from that meeting does not include Clifford. Clifford’s earlier announcement of full NUC accreditation for eight programmes is from its news item of 21 March 2023. The Full accreditation result for Microbiology (88.40%, panel visit 10 to 12 December 2024) is from NUC’s accreditation report (checked 29 October 2026).
