The Rhema University Mass Communication cut-off mark 2027/2028 candidates should work with is 150 in the UTME. That is JAMB’s national minimum for universities, set at the 2026 policy meeting. Rhema University, Aba has not published its own cut-off for B.Sc. Mass Communication, and it is not on the list of institutions that declared their own figures at that meeting. Score 150 or more, choose Rhema, and hold five O’level credits that include Mathematics, and you can apply.
2027/2028 update: Rhema cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.
Mass Communication draws candidates who want to work in journalism, broadcasting, public relations, advertising or digital media. Two things trip up Rhema applicants: many believe Literature in English is compulsory in JAMB (it is not), and many arts students do not realise Rhema asks for a Mathematics credit. This page covers the official figures, a safe target score, subjects, Direct Entry, screening, a worked example, the CAPS steps and the “unbundling” question.

Blogs still repost a 2018/2019 “Rhema cut-off mark for all courses” table. It does not come from any Rhema document I could find, so treat it as unofficial and out of date.
Safe target score for Mass Communication at Rhema (my advice)
Mass Communication is one of the busier arts and social science courses in Nigeria, but competition at a private university like Rhema is usually lighter than at federal schools. Rhema publishes no applicant numbers, so the bands below are my judgement as an admissions adviser. They are not a Rhema rule.
| Your UTME score | My read for Rhema Mass Communication |
|---|---|
| Below 150 | Not eligible through UTME |
| 150 to 159 | Eligible; check your Mathematics credit first |
| 160 to 179 | Reasonable chance |
| 180 to 199 | Good chance |
| 200 and above | Strong |
For the 2027 UTME I would aim for 180 or more. Use of English carries real weight for this course, so give it serious preparation alongside your three other subjects.
UTME subject combination and O’level for Rhema Mass Communication
| Requirement | Mass Communication at Rhema |
|---|---|
| UTME subjects | Use of English plus any three arts or social science subjects |
| Rhema remark on JAMB brochure | Direct Entry only (see below) |
| O’level (Rhema) | Five credits: English Language, Mathematics, plus arts or social science subjects |
| O’level (JAMB general rule) | Five credits: English Language plus four arts or social science subjects |
| Sittings | Not stated for this course |
| Entry modes | UTME into 100 level; Direct Entry into 200 level |
Is Literature in English compulsory?
Not under the JAMB brochure’s general rule. Myschool’s reprint lists the UTME requirement for Mass Communication as any three arts or social science subjects, with Use of English compulsory. Rhema has no special UTME remark, so that general rule applies. Literature is still a sensible choice if it is a strong subject for you, because it builds the reading and writing skills the course uses. Common combinations include:
- Use of English, Literature in English, Government, CRS
- Use of English, Government, Economics, Geography
- Use of English, Literature in English, History, Government
Before you register, check that each subject you pick is listed under arts or social sciences on the JAMB e-brochure. Science subjects such as Physics or Chemistry do not fit this rule.
Why your Mathematics credit matters at Rhema
JAMB’s general O’level rule for Mass Communication asks for English and four arts or social science credits, and does not insist on Mathematics. Rhema’s admissions page is stricter: it names English Language and Mathematics among the five credits. Rhema’s own list is what its admissions officers will check, so if your Mathematics is a pass, fix it with a WAEC GCE or NECO resit before you apply, or call Rhema first.
Direct Entry into Mass Communication
Rhema admits Direct Entry candidates into 200 level with five O’level credits plus one of these:
- A-level GCE passes in at least two relevant subjects
- IJMB
- NCE in relevant subjects
- ND at upper credit in a relevant field
- HND at lower credit in a relevant field
- A first degree in a related field
The JAMB brochure carries a remark that Rhema (with UNIZIK) accepts a good NCE, OND or HND in relevant areas for Mass Communication. The general A-level rule is two passes in arts or social science subjects. Polytechnic Mass Communication diplomas are the obvious “relevant area”; holders of other diplomas should confirm with Rhema.
Rhema post-UTME and screening for Mass Communication
Rhema has not published a screening procedure for Mass Communication in any source I reached. The one screening notice I could confirm, reprinted by Myschool on 10 September 2025, was for MBBS and Nursing candidates. It held on 16 September 2025 at the Academic Block in Aba, with extra centres in Abuja (Gwarimpa) and Lagos (Ojodu Berger), and candidates were told to bring a passport photograph and writing materials.
Some blogs say every Rhema applicant sits a computer-based test. They cite no notice from the university, and one of them quotes two different form prices. For Mass Communication, apply on the portal early and ask the admissions office whether there is a test, an interview or both.
Worked example (illustrative only)
Rhema has published no aggregate formula. I compare two candidates with the 150 floor and my 180 target and, in case a test is set, use the 50:50 method many Nigerian universities use: UTME divided by 8, plus half the screening percentage. This is my illustration only.
- Nneka: UTME 214 with Literature, Government and CRS. Credits in English, Mathematics, Literature, Government and CRS in one sitting. She is well above my target.
- If there is a test: Nneka scores 58%. 214 ÷ 8 = 26.75, plus 29, gives an illustrative aggregate of 55.8.
- Emeka: UTME 181 (22.6) and 72% at screening (36), for 58.6. His test result would put him ahead.
- Amarachi: UTME 230, but only a pass in Mathematics. Her score is high, yet Rhema’s O’level list would stop her until she gets the credit.
Has Mass Communication been scrapped?
No. In January 2020 the National Universities Commission confirmed it had unbundled Mass Communication into seven separate degrees: Journalism and Media Studies, Public Relations, Advertising, Broadcasting, Film and Multimedia Studies, Development Communication Studies, and Information and Media Studies. The NUC also said universities could keep the original Mass Communication programme, as reported by the ICIR.
Rhema’s admissions page still lists B.Sc. Mass Communication, and Myschool’s copy of JAMB’s course list for Rhema shows Mass Communication rather than any of the new titles. When you register, pick the course name that appears for Rhema on the JAMB portal. If you are set on one branch, such as public relations or broadcasting, ask the department which electives it offers.
How to apply for Mass Communication at Rhema, step by step
- Get your JAMB profile code: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN. JAMB replies with the profile code you use to buy the UTME form.
- Register the UTME: pick Mass Communication with Use of English and three arts or social science subjects (for example Literature in English, Government and CRS), and choose Rhema University. If you already chose another school, do a JAMB change of institution; if you registered a different course, see our JAMB change of course guide.
- Upload your O’level to CAPS: go to a JAMB office or accredited CBT centre with your WAEC or NECO result. If you used two sittings, upload both. Without this upload, Rhema cannot send you an offer.
- Apply on Rhema’s portal: on rhemauniversity.edu.ng, open Admissions, click “Apply Now”, sign in, fill the form for Mass Communication and print the acknowledgement slip.
- Confirm any screening: call 08107159322 or 08076846648 and ask whether Mass Communication candidates sit a test or interview that year, and where.
- Accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, choose Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS, and accept the offer. JAMB gave candidates four weeks to accept in 2026. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains every status you might see.
- Pay acceptance and clear: Rhema does not publish its acceptance fee in any source I reached. Get the amount from the university itself, pay only into its official account, then go for clearance with your original documents.
Warning
Blogs quote different prices for Rhema’s admission form, and some carry “admission” adverts with email addresses that are not Rhema’s. Pay only what Rhema’s own portal or admissions office tells you, ignore agents who promise a place, and remember that a genuine offer always shows on JAMB CAPS.
Studying Mass Communication at Rhema University
Rhema University is a private Christian university in Aba, established in 2010 according to its own news page. It awards a B.Sc. in Mass Communication. The admissions page does not give the duration or name the college; in Nigeria the degree normally takes four years through UTME and three through Direct Entry.
Accreditation
Rhema’s admissions page says all its courses are accredited by the National Universities Commission and relevant professional bodies. I could not find a published NUC accreditation result for B.Sc. Mass Communication at Rhema, so treat the current status as not confirmed and ask the department before you pay. Ask also what studio, newsroom and broadcast facilities students use.
What you study
- 100 level: introduction to mass communication, history of the Nigerian media, writing skills and general studies.

Mistakes Mass Communication applicants make
- No Mathematics credit: Rhema asks for it even though JAMB’s general rule does not.
- Adding a science subject in JAMB: the rule is three arts or social science subjects.
- Neglecting Use of English: it is compulsory and counts fully in your score.
- Expecting 150 to guarantee a place: it is only the minimum to apply.
- Forgetting the CAPS O’level upload: without it, no offer can be sent.

Sources and updates
The O’level list (including Mathematics), Direct Entry options, 200-level entry, the “Apply Now” route, the number 08076846648 and Rhema’s general accreditation statement come from Rhema University’s admissions page (undated, checked 29 October 2026). The UTME rule, general O’level and A-level rules and the Rhema Direct Entry remark come from Myschool’s reprint of the JAMB brochure entry for Mass Communication, checked 29 October 2026, and the course name from Myschool’s copy of JAMB’s Rhema course list. The unbundling details are from the ICIR’s report of 9 January 2020. The MBBS and Nursing screening of 16 September 2025 and the number 08107159322 are from Myschool’s reprint of Rhema’s notice (10 September 2025). The national minimum of 150 and the four-week CAPS window are from the News Agency of Nigeria (11 May 2026); News Central’s list of declared cut-offs from that meeting does not include Rhema. The safe target score, worked example and subject suggestions are my advice. Checked on 29 October 2026; this page will be updated if Rhema publishes a Mass Communication cut-off or screening notice.
