CCU Education and Computer Science Cut-Off Mark 2027/2028 & Admission Requirements

Coal City University’s Education and Computer Science cut-off for 2027/2028 is the JAMB minimum of 150. UTME subjects, O’level, how to apply, a safe target score and the course’s Full NUC status.

The CCU Education and Computer Science cut-off mark is 150. That is JAMB’s national minimum for universities for 2026/2027, and Coal City University, Enugu, has not announced a higher figure for this course or any other. With 150 or more in the right UTME subjects, CCU on your JAMB form and the O’level credits listed below, you are eligible to apply for the B.Ed. Education and Computer Science.

2027/2028 update: CCU cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.

The course is listed in all three places I checked. It appears on CCU’s JAMB course list as Education and Computer Science, which is the exact name to pick when you register. CCU’s own Faculty of Education page lists B.Ed. Education & Computer Science under the Department of Science & Computer Education. The NUC’s Accreditation Results 1990 to 2025 list (September 2026) shows Education Computer Science at CCU with Full accreditation and a maturity date of 2028.

Nothing official sits above 150. CCU did not declare its own minimum at JAMB’s 2026 policy meeting, and I found no departmental figure for any earlier session. If CCU announces one for 2027/2028, it goes into this table.

Safe target score for Education and Computer Science at CCU (my advice)

This is my judgement, not a CCU rule. CCU is a private university founded in 2016, and B.Ed. courses usually attract fewer applicants than the straight B.Sc. Computer Science. The subject rules will decide your case long before your score does.

Your UTME scoreMy read for Education and Computer Science at CCU
Below 150Not eligible for any university course in Nigeria this session
150 to 169Eligible. A place is realistic if your O’level subjects match the course
170 to 199Comfortable for an education course at a private university of CCU’s size
200 and aboveStrong. Your O’level and documents become the only real questions

I would still aim for 180 or more in the 2027 UTME. Physics and Mathematics are the subjects that drag most candidates down on this combination, and a little extra margin protects you if CCU raises its minimum or if you need a public university as a second option.

UTME subject combination and O’level for Education and Computer Science at CCU

RequirementEducation and Computer Science at CCU
UTME subjectsUse of English, Mathematics, Physics, and one of Biology, Chemistry or Geography
O’levelFive credits including English Language, Mathematics and three other science subjects
SittingsNo more than two (CCU’s 2022/2023 guidance)
Direct EntryTwo A-level passes including Physics or Chemistry
CCU-specific remark in the brochureNone

Mathematics and Physics are both compulsory in the UTME. Many candidates assume a computing course only needs Mathematics and pick Economics as a third subject; JAMB’s line for this course does not allow Economics, so that combination fails. Your fourth subject must be Biology, Chemistry or Geography. If you are strong in Chemistry, take it, because it keeps a B.Sc. science course open as a backup.

For O’level, the brochure asks for English, Mathematics and three other sciences. Physics is the obvious one. Chemistry, Biology, Further Mathematics or Agricultural Science are the usual choices for the other two, but get CCU’s confirmation if you plan to rely on a subject such as Computer Studies or Data Processing to make up the five.

One warning about Myschool’s copy of this brochure page: most of the institution remarks printed under it talk about Economics, Government and Commerce, so they appear to belong to the Economics Education page. The main UTME, O’level and Direct Entry lines are consistent across two separate checks, and none of the remarks names CCU.

Direct Entry into Education and Computer Science

The brochure accepts two A-level passes including Physics or Chemistry. CCU has not published its own Direct Entry notice for 2026/2027, but a blog report from May 2026 says the form was open to UTME, Direct Entry and transfer candidates.

If you hold, or are thinking about, an NCE: JAMB’s 2026 policy meeting exempted NCE programmes from the UTME, and colleges of education stopped taking degree students at 100 and 200 level from 2026/2027, so everyone there now starts with the NCE. An NCE with good grades in your teaching subjects is also a Direct Entry route into a B.Ed. at a university such as CCU. Direct Entry candidates still register with JAMB and are admitted through CAPS.

How CCU screens Education and Computer Science applicants

CCU has not published its 2026/2027 screening details in any source I could reach. The Myschool reprint of the 2026/2027 advert (18 May 2026) invites applications into the university’s undergraduate programmes, but the part that can be read gives no dates, no fee and no word on a written test. The table separates what was published for an earlier session from what is still unknown.

Many private universities in Nigeria admit on UTME score plus O’level, sometimes with a short interview, instead of a scored Post-UTME test. I can’t confirm which method CCU used in 2026, so prepare for both: keep your UTME result slip, O’level certificates or statements of result, birth certificate, local government identification and passport photographs in one folder.

Worked example for an Education and Computer Science candidate

With no published aggregate, the honest calculation is the gap between your score, the 150 minimum and my suggested target, plus a check of your O’level against the course line.

Take Ifeanyi, who scored 186 in English, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry, with credits in English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology in one sitting.

  1. Eligibility: 186 minus 150 = 36. He clears the minimum by 36 marks.
  2. Against my safe target: 186 minus 180 = 6. He is just above it.
  3. O’level check: English, Mathematics and three sciences, one sitting. That matches the brochure line.
  4. Advice: apply on the portal, confirm his O’level shows on CAPS and accept the offer within JAMB’s window.

Compare Adaeze, who scored 203 but wrote English, Mathematics, Physics and Economics. Her score is higher, yet Economics is not one of the allowed fourth subjects. She should ask CCU directly whether it will accept her combination, and if not, look at Education and Economics, where her subjects fit better. Some websites print a 50:50 aggregate formula for CCU; the university has not published one, so treat any such figure as a guess.

How to apply for Education and Computer Science at CCU, step by step

  1. Get your JAMB profile code: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN.
  2. Register the UTME correctly: choose the course named Education and Computer Science under Coal City University and write the subjects in the table above.
  3. Put CCU on your form: make Coal City University your first choice. If you chose another school, do a JAMB change of institution at a CBT centre or JAMB office.
  4. Upload your O’level to CAPS: do this at a JAMB-accredited CBT centre as soon as your WAEC, NECO or NABTEB result is out. CCU cannot offer you admission on CAPS without it.
  5. Apply on the CCU portal: go to portal.ccu.edu.ng, choose the option for degree programmes, generate an invoice and pay. A 2026 blog put the form at ₦2,000, the same figure reported for 2022/2023. CCU’s own 2026/2027 notice was not available to me, so go by the amount on your invoice.
  6. Submit and print: enter your JAMB registration number, complete the form, submit it and print the application form and your UTME result slip.
  7. Accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, choose Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS. Accept the CCU offer and print your JAMB admission letter. JAMB allows four weeks to accept or reject an offer.
  8. Pay acceptance and clear: CCU’s acceptance and tuition fees were not published in any source I could open. Get the figures from the portal or the admissions office before you pay anything.

Warning

Every genuine CCU admission shows on JAMB CAPS. Do not pay anyone who promises a place for money, and pay only against an invoice generated on the CCU portal.

JAMB set 30 November 2026 as the 2026/2027 admission deadline for private universities, a month after the 31 October 2026 date for public universities (News Agency of Nigeria, 11 May 2026). JAMB also said any admission made outside CAPS is illegal. If you sat the 2026 UTME and chose CCU, keep checking CAPS. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains what each status means.

Studying Education and Computer Science at Coal City University

CCU’s Faculty of Education has two departments: Education Foundation, and Science & Computer Education. The faculty page names Professor Rev. Fr. Augustine Akubue as dean. Education and Computer Science sits in the science department with Education and Biology. The degree is a B.Ed., and the normal length of a Nigerian B.Ed. through UTME is four years; CCU’s page does not state a duration.

What you study

CCU has not put a curriculum for this course online, so this is how a Nigerian B.Ed. in Computer Science is usually arranged.

  • Education courses: philosophy, history and sociology of education, educational psychology, curriculum studies, teaching methods, and measurement and evaluation.
  • Computer science courses: introduction to computing, programming, data structures, databases, computer networks, operating systems and systems analysis.
  • Teaching subject methods: how to teach computing and ICT to secondary school students, including lesson planning and practical sessions.
  • Teaching practice: a supervised placement in a secondary school, usually in the later years.
  • Final year: a research project, normally on a computing education topic.

Accreditation and teacher registration

NUC’s 1990 to 2025 results list shows Education Computer Science at CCU as Full with a maturity date of 2028, alongside Education Biology, Education English, Education Economics, Educational Management and Social Studies, which all carry the same status and date. CCU’s separate B.Sc. Computer Science also has Full accreditation (NUC report entry 11511, December 2024). After graduation, anyone who wants to teach in Nigeria registers with the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN), which includes passing its Professional Qualifying Examination.

Careers

Graduates teach Computer Studies and ICT in junior and senior secondary schools, private and public. Others work as ICT instructors in training centres, in e-learning and education technology companies, or in school administration roles that handle results and records systems. A master’s degree opens lecturing at colleges of education and universities.

Mistakes that cost Computer Science Education applicants a CCU place

  • Writing Economics as the fourth UTME subject: the course line allows Biology, Chemistry or Geography only.
  • Dropping Physics: it is compulsory in the UTME and expected in O’level.
  • Picking the wrong course name: register “Education and Computer Science”, not “Computer Science”, if you want the B.Ed.
  • O’level not on CAPS: CCU cannot offer admission without it.
  • Missing the CAPS window: accept or reject within four weeks.

If you are aiming at the 2027 UTME, read when JAMB 2027 registration starts, and after the exam use our guide on checking your JAMB result and what to do with the score. There is no JAMB Computer Studies paper, so revise Mathematics and Physics hardest.
