The MOUAU cut off mark for Plant Health Management is 150 in the UTME, and Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike (MOUAU) must be your first choice. That was the single minimum MOUAU set for every course in its 2026/2027 screening notice. The university did not publish a separate departmental cut-off for Plant Health Management.
2027/2028 update: MOUAU cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.
A score of 150 gets you into MOUAU’s screening. Whether you are admitted depends on where you rank against the other applicants, and MOUAU counts your O’level grades and number of sittings as well as your UTME score. Below you will find the official figures, my safe target score, the JAMB subjects, a point about how JAMB lists this course that trips people up, the screening steps, a worked example and the CAPS process.
MOUAU Plant Health Management cut off mark: the official position
| Item | 2026/2027 figure | Where it comes from |
|---|---|---|
| MOUAU minimum UTME score (all courses, Plant Health Management included) | 150, MOUAU first choice | MOUAU screening notice signed by the Registrar, reprinted by Myschool on 20 June 2026 |
| JAMB national minimum for universities | 150 | JAMB 2026 policy meeting, 11 May 2026 |
| Departmental cut-off for Plant Health Management | Not published | MOUAU released no per-course figures |
| Screening fee | ₦2,000 through Remita | MOUAU notice (reprint) |
| College | College of Crop and Soil Sciences (CCSS) | MOUAU department list |
| UTME subjects | English, Chemistry, Biology or Agricultural Science, and Physics or Mathematics | JAMB brochure Agriculture entry (Myschool reprint) |
Cut-off history
| Session | Figure | What it means | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2026/2027 | 150 | Minimum for all MOUAU courses, MOUAU first choice | MOUAU notice via Myschool reprint (20 June 2026) |
| 2026 (national) | 150 | JAMB minimum for every university | Official, JAMB policy meeting |
| 2025/2026 | Not confirmed | Blogs say 150, but I found no MOUAU document for that year | Unverified |
| Plant Health Management only | None published | “Departmental cut-off” lists on blogs cite no MOUAU source | Unofficial |
If you see a blog table giving Plant Health Management a figure like 160 or 170, treat it as a guess. MOUAU has not released departmental cut-offs, and the 2026/2027 notice set one university-wide minimum.
Safe target score for Plant Health Management at MOUAU (my advice)
MOUAU does not publish the score of the last candidate admitted into each department. The table below is my judgement as an admissions adviser, based on how Nigerian federal universities usually fill agriculture departments. It is not a MOUAU rule.
| Your UTME score | My read for MOUAU Plant Health Management |
|---|---|
| Below 150 | Not eligible for any MOUAU course |
| 150 to 169 | Eligible to register; admission depends heavily on your O’level |
| 170 to 189 | A fair chance if your five credits are good and from one sitting |
| 190 and above | Strong position for this department |
Plant Health Management does not usually draw the crowds that Agricultural Economics or the engineering courses draw, so a candidate in the 170s with clean O’level results stands a reasonable chance. Still, I would aim for 180 or more in the 2027 UTME. That gives you a cushion if more people apply than usual or if your O’level grades are average.
MOUAU is a federal university, so its intake follows the federal mix of merit, catchment and educationally less developed states. MOUAU has not published its own split or its list of catchment states, so I would not count on catchment to rescue a weak score.
JAMB subject combination for Plant Health Management at MOUAU
Here is the part most candidates miss. In JAMB’s brochure, as reprinted by Myschool, MOUAU appears under the course Agriculture, with “options at the final year” that include Plant Health Management. The separate Crop Protection entry in the brochure does not list MOUAU. So the requirements that apply to you are the Agriculture requirements plus MOUAU’s own remarks on that entry.
| Requirement | What applies for MOUAU Plant Health Management |
|---|---|
| UTME subjects | Use of English, Chemistry, Biology or Agricultural Science, and one of Physics or Mathematics |
| O’level (MOUAU remark) | Five credits at not more than two sittings: English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology or Agricultural Science, and any other science subject |
| Physics | MOUAU requires at least an O’level pass in Physics |
| Agricultural Science | A credit in Agricultural Science must be backed by at least a pass in Biology |
| Exams accepted | WAEC, NECO, NABTEB |
| Awaiting results | Do not register for MOUAU screening until your result is out |
My pick for the UTME is English, Chemistry, Biology and Physics. Biology is closer to what you will study than Agricultural Science, because plant pathology and insect studies build on it. Physics makes sense too, since MOUAU wants at least an O’level pass in it anyway.
How to find the course on JAMB’s registration list
Because the brochure lists MOUAU’s crop courses as options under Agriculture, the course you pick at the CBT centre may be named Agriculture rather than Plant Health Management. Ask the centre to show you the course names JAMB lists for MOUAU, and check your e-brochure before you pay. If the only matching name is Agriculture, MOUAU places students into options such as Plant Health Management at the final year, according to the brochure entry. Ask MOUAU’s admissions office how and when the department is assigned before you accept.
Direct Entry
MOUAU’s remarks on the Agriculture entry say it wants A-level passes in Chemistry and one of Biology, Botany, Zoology or Agricultural Science. It accepts ND or HND in related fields. ND holders with distinction or credit, and HND holders with credit, go into 200 level. ND holders with a lower credit, and NCE holders with a double major in Agriculture at credit or merit level, are admitted into 100 level. MOUAU’s 2026/2027 notice did not add separate Direct Entry rules.
MOUAU screening for Plant Health Management applicants
The 2026/2027 notice was signed by the Registrar, Dr (Mrs) Nkeiruka Charity Mbanasor, and reprinted by Myschool on 20 June 2026. I could not open the original on mouau.edu.ng, so these details come from that reprint.
| Detail | 2026/2027 screening |
|---|---|
| Eligibility | 150 or more in the 2026 UTME with MOUAU as first choice; others could change to MOUAU on the JAMB portal |
| Opened | 6 June 2026, online through mouau.edu.ng |
| Registration portal | portal.mouau.edu.ng (payment issues: portal@mouau.edu.ng) |
| Fee | ₦2,000 via Remita, by card or cash at any bank |
| Ranking | UTME score, with O’level grades and number of sittings both weighted |
| Written test or closing date | Not stated in the notice |
The notice does not mention a Post-UTME test, so I will not tell you one was written. MOUAU asked candidates to check the portal regularly for screening results and admission status, and that is the habit to keep once you register.
Worked example: two Plant Health Management applicants
MOUAU has not published an aggregate formula. To show how O’level weighting changes the picture, I use an illustrative method common at Nigerian universities: UTME score divided by 8 (up to 50 points), plus O’level points for five subjects at A1 = 10, B2 = 9, B3 = 8, C4 = 7, C5 = 6, C6 = 5 (up to 50 points). This is my example. MOUAU’s own method may differ.
- Chiamaka, 176, one sitting: B3 English, B2 Mathematics, B2 Chemistry, A1 Biology, B3 Physics. UTME points: 176 ÷ 8 = 22. O’level points: 8 + 9 + 9 + 10 + 8 = 44. Illustrative total: 66.
- Uchenna, 198, two sittings: C5 English, C6 Mathematics, C4 Chemistry, C5 Agricultural Science and C6 Physics, with a pass in Biology. UTME points: 198 ÷ 8 = 24.75. O’level points: 6 + 5 + 7 + 6 + 5 = 29. Illustrative total: 53.75.
- What it shows: Uchenna scored 22 marks more in the UTME and still trails by 12.25 points on this method. His Agricultural Science credit only counts because he also has a Biology pass, and the second sitting costs him on MOUAU’s weighting.
If your O’level is weak, a resit that gives you strong grades in one sitting may do more for you than a few extra UTME marks.
How to apply for Plant Health Management at MOUAU
- Get a JAMB profile code: text NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone number linked to your NIN.
- Register the UTME with MOUAU first: pick the MOUAU course that leads to Plant Health Management (often listed as Agriculture), with English, Chemistry, Biology or Agricultural Science, and Physics or Mathematics. If MOUAU is not your first choice, do a JAMB change of institution before screening opens.
- Upload your O’level for CAPS: go to an accredited JAMB CBT centre once your result is out. Because MOUAU weights sittings, upload your best single sitting.
- Register on the MOUAU portal: open portal.mouau.edu.ng when the screening notice is out, complete the form and generate a Remita invoice.
- Pay the screening fee: ₦2,000 in 2026/2027, by card or at a bank. Keep the RRR and receipt.
- Watch the portal and CAPS: MOUAU posts screening results and admission status on its portal, and the offer itself appears on JAMB CAPS.
- Accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, go to Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS, and accept. JAMB gives four weeks. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains the statuses.
- Pay acceptance fee and clear: I found no published MOUAU acceptance or school fee. Use the amount on your portal invoice and pay only through it.
Warning
A real MOUAU admission shows on JAMB CAPS. JAMB said in May 2026 that admission outside CAPS is illegal, so anyone selling a “Plant Health slot” or “change of department” for cash is running a scam.
What Plant Health Management at MOUAU involves
Plant Health Management is a department in MOUAU’s College of Crop and Soil Sciences, alongside Agronomy, Soil Science and Meteorology, and Water Resources Management and Agrometeorology. MOUAU is a federal university of agriculture at Umudike, about 10 km from Umuahia in Abia State, created by federal decree in November 1992. The National Root Crops Research Institute is also at Umudike, which puts a working crop research centre next door.
The department deals with keeping crops free of pests and diseases. In Nigeria, cassava, yam, maize, cocoyam and vegetables lose a large share of their yield to insects, fungi, viruses, nematodes and weeds, and this is the field that studies how to prevent that.
Topics you can expect
- Early years: general agriculture shared with other agriculture students (crops, animals, soils, agricultural economics), plus chemistry, biology and general studies.
- Plant pathology: fungal, bacterial and viral diseases of crops and how to diagnose them.
- Agricultural entomology and nematology: insect pests, nematodes and the damage they cause.
- Weed science and pesticides: weed control, safe pesticide use and the rules around agrochemicals.
- Integrated pest management and storage: combining biological, cultural and chemical control, and protecting harvested produce.
These are the usual areas in Nigerian plant protection degrees. MOUAU’s course handbook will give the exact course list, and agriculture degrees in Nigeria normally include a farm practical or industrial attachment year.
Degree, duration and accreditation
MOUAU’s official department list confirms the Department of Plant Health Management. The JAMB brochure lists it as a final-year option of MOUAU’s Agriculture degree, so your degree title may be B.Agric with Plant Health Management as the option; I could not confirm the exact title in an official source. Agriculture degrees in Nigeria usually take five years. I found no published NUC accreditation result for this programme, so I am not claiming one; ask MOUAU before you accept.
Careers after Plant Health Management

Common mistakes Plant Health Management applicants make
- No Physics at all: MOUAU asks for at least an O’level pass in Physics for its agriculture courses.
- Agricultural Science without Biology: the Agricultural Science credit is only accepted with at least a Biology pass.
- Searching JAMB for “Crop Protection”: the brochure’s Crop Protection entry does not list MOUAU; look under Agriculture.
- Reading 150 as an admission score: it only makes you eligible for screening.
- Three sittings or awaiting results: MOUAU caps sittings at two and told awaiting candidates to wait for their results.
MOUAU Plant Health Management cut off mark: FAQs

Sources and updates
The 150 minimum, the first-choice rule, the 6 June 2026 opening, the ₦2,000 Remita fee, the portal addresses, the awaiting-result instruction and the weighting of O’level grades and sittings come from MOUAU’s 2026/2027 screening notice signed by the Registrar, Dr (Mrs) Nkeiruka Charity Mbanasor, as reprinted by Myschool on 20 June 2026; I could not open the original on mouau.edu.ng. The national 150 minimum, the four-week CAPS acceptance window and the warning about admissions outside CAPS come from the News Agency of Nigeria report on JAMB’s policy meeting (11 May 2026). The department and college names come from MOUAU’s Academic Department by Faculty page (updated 19 June 2026). The UTME subjects, the final-year options, MOUAU’s O’level remark and its Direct Entry remarks come from the JAMB brochure’s Agriculture entry as reprinted by Myschool; the Crop Protection entry does not list MOUAU. The safe target table and the worked example are my own advice. MOUAU’s fees, degree title and accreditation status were not published in any source I reached. Checked on 29 October 2026.
