The GOUNI cut-off mark for Architecture is 150 in the UTME. Godfrey Okoye University, Enugu names Architecture by itself in its 2026/2027 list of minimum JAMB scores, at 150, the same as JAMB’s national minimum for universities. Only Medicine and Surgery and Law (200) and Nursing (180) are higher. There is no published departmental merit score, no drawing test on the form page, and the application form is free.
2027/2028 update: GOUNI cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.
Architecture at GOUNI is a four-year B.Sc. Architecture, the first half of the usual two-tier route into the profession: B.Sc., then a professional master’s. JAMB lists it for GOUNI simply as Architecture, with no GOUNI remark, but GOUNI’s own handbook sets its own subject lists. This guide lines the two up, then covers Direct Entry, how GOUNI decides, the fees, the ARCON position and what you study.

Naming Architecture at 150 removes any doubt: GOUNI does not ask more for it, unlike ESUT, which put Architecture in its 180 band for 2026/2027.
What score should you aim for? (my advice)
Architecture draws strong candidates at public universities, but at GOUNI the form is read on its own merits and answered within days. These bands are my own reading, not a GOUNI rule:
| Your UTME score | My read for GOUNI Architecture |
|---|---|
| Below 150 | Not eligible through UTME this year. JUPEB (Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry) at GOUNI is the main alternative. |
| 150 to 169 | Eligible. Your O’level subject mix decides it. |
| 170 to 189 | Comfortable at GOUNI, and above UNN’s 160 screening floor. |
| 190 and above | Comfortable. You would also clear ESUT’s 180 for Architecture if you want a public option. |
UTME subject combination and O’level for Architecture at GOUNI
JAMB’s Architecture entry has long lists of remarks for other universities, but none for GOUNI. GOUNI’s own handbook, however, has its own subject lists. Meeting both is easy if you plan for it.
| Requirement | JAMB brochure (general line) | GOUNI B.Sc. Architecture handbook |
|---|---|---|
| UTME subjects | English, Physics, Mathematics and any of Chemistry, Geography, Art, Biology and Economics | Mathematics and Physics plus one of Chemistry, Geography, Fine Arts or Technical Drawing |
| O’level | Five credits: English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and one art, technical or building-related subject | Five credits: Mathematics, English, Physics and two of Chemistry, Biology, Technical Drawing, Fine Arts, Geography, Economics, Building Construction, Land Surveying |
| Sittings | Not stated for GOUNI | Not more than two |
| Direct Entry | Two A-level passes from Mathematics or Physics plus Chemistry, Geography or Fine Arts; ND/HND upper credit in a related field | 200 level: five credits with two at A-level, or a relevant ND. 300 level: relevant HND at upper credit or distinction |
Which UTME subjects to write
The subjects that appear on both lists are Chemistry, Geography and Fine Arts. I would write English, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry, or Geography in place of Chemistry if that is your stronger subject. Chemistry has an extra advantage: it matches GOUNI’s JUPEB combination and keeps Industrial Physics or Computer Science open. Do not pick Biology or Economics as your fourth subject for GOUNI; JAMB allows them, but GOUNI’s handbook does not list them for the UTME.
Which O’level credits to have
Aim for credits in English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and one of Technical Drawing, Fine Arts or Geography, in one or two sittings. That set satisfies JAMB’s general line, which wants Chemistry, and GOUNI’s handbook, which wants two from its list. If you have no Chemistry credit but do have Technical Drawing and Geography, you meet GOUNI’s handbook but not JAMB’s general line, so ask GOUNI by e-mail to confirm before paying.
Awaiting result and portfolio
- Awaiting result: you can sit the UTME and fill the GOUNI form while waiting, but nothing moves on CAPS until the result is uploaded.
- Portfolio or drawing test: GOUNI’s form page and handbook mention neither for UTME entrants. Some universities ask for one; GOUNI has not said it does.
Direct Entry and JUPEB
GOUNI’s handbook gives two Direct Entry levels. With five credits, two of them at A-level, or a relevant ND, you can enter 200 level and need 90 units to graduate. With a relevant HND at upper credit or distinction you can enter 300 level and need 60 units. That makes GOUNI a realistic option for polytechnic Architectural Technology graduates. The form page tells Direct Entry applicants to use the current JAMB Direct Entry form.
GOUNI also runs JUPEB on campus, and its form page lists Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry as the JUPEB subjects for this course. The programme lasts nine to eleven months, the on-campus form costs ₦10,000 and you need five O’level credits in not more than two sittings. A good JUPEB result is a route into 200 level. Since JAMB’s June 2026 guide, colleges of education no longer admit anyone into 100 or 200 level degree programmes, so a degree through a college is no longer a back door. Your real options outside the UTME are JUPEB, A-levels, or an ND followed by Direct Entry.
How GOUNI screens Architecture applicants
GOUNI’s official form page does not describe a Post-UTME test for undergraduates. You fill an online form, the admissions office checks it against your UTME score and O’level, and the decision comes to your e-mail. The page mentions no written test, no interview and no aggregate score for Architecture.
| Detail | What GOUNI published for 2026/2027 |
|---|---|
| Where to apply | The admission form on the official GOUNI website (gouni.edu.ng) |
| Form fee | Free (only Medicine and Surgery, Nursing and Law charge ₦5,000) |
| Minimum UTME score | 150 |
| O’level | Five credits in the subjects the course needs, including English Language and Mathematics |
| Written test or interview | None described |
| Decision | Sent by e-mail within three working days of submitting the form |
| After an offer | Acceptance fee first, then tuition, ICT and the other charges |
| Other entry routes | Direct Entry (on JAMB’s Direct Entry form), JUPEB, transfer (CGPA 2.5 on a 4-point scale or 4.0 on a 5-point scale) and postgraduate |
| Aggregate formula | Not published |
The reply comes by e-mail, so use an address you open every day and type it carefully; a single wrong letter means the offer never reaches you.
Worked example (illustrative)
GOUNI publishes no aggregate formula, so these examples only check the score and the subjects.
Somtochukwu scored 172 in English, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. Her WAEC (one sitting) has B3 in Mathematics, C5 in English, C4 in Physics, C6 in Chemistry, B2 in Technical Drawing and C5 in Geography.
- Score: 172 is 22 above GOUNI’s 150.
- UTME subjects: Chemistry is on both the JAMB list and GOUNI’s handbook list.
- O’level: English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Technical Drawing satisfy both lines.
- Next step: fill the free form, watch her e-mail, accept on CAPS.
Ikenna scored 181 in English, Mathematics, Physics and Economics. His score is excellent, and JAMB accepts Economics as the fourth subject for Architecture, but GOUNI’s handbook lists only Chemistry, Geography, Fine Arts or Technical Drawing. He should e-mail GOUNI before applying. If GOUNI holds to its handbook, Industrial Design or Physics at GOUNI may suit his combination better, or he can resit with Chemistry or Geography.
Admission odds and advice
- The fourth UTME subject matters: choose one that appears on both lists.
- Chemistry at O’level: have it, even though GOUNI’s handbook does not force it.
- Fix your institution early: GOUNI can only propose candidates who have it on their JAMB profile.
- Apply early: GOUNI answers in about three working days.
- Timing: JAMB set 30 November 2026 as the 2026/2027 admission deadline for private universities, and GOUNI repeated it in its news post of 12 May 2026. That window runs until 30 November 2026. JAMB announces the 2027/2028 dates each year, so expect a similar private-university date but check it when it comes out.
Who this course suits
Architecture suits someone who enjoys drawing, building things and solving spatial problems, and who can keep going through long studio nights. It is also a long road: the B.Sc. is only the first tier, and full registration comes after a master’s and supervised practice. If you want a design degree with a shorter route to work, look at GOUNI’s Industrial Design.
How to apply for Architecture at GOUNI, step by step
- Get your JAMB profile code: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN.
- Register the UTME correctly: choose Godfrey Okoye University and the course “Architecture”, and write English, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry (or Geography or Fine Arts).
- Upload your O’level to CAPS: do it at a JAMB-accredited centre as soon as your WAEC or NECO result is out. GOUNI cannot propose you on CAPS until the result is there.
- Make GOUNI your institution: if you chose another university first, do a JAMB change of institution to GOUNI. The form page says the admission is completed with a JAMB admission letter, so this step cannot be skipped.
- Fill the GOUNI form: open the admission form page on gouni.edu.ng, choose your course under the Faculty of Natural Science and Environmental Studies and submit. The form costs nothing for this faculty.
- Check your e-mail: GOUNI says the decision comes within three working days.
- Accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, open Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS, and accept the offer. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status you may see.
- Pay and clear: pay the acceptance fee through the university’s own online payment platform only (GOUNI warns that payments into personal accounts are at your own risk), then print your JAMB admission letter for clearance.
How much is Architecture at GOUNI? (last published fees)
The newest GOUNI fee schedule I could find is the 2025/2026 session fees structure. The 2026/2027 schedule was not online when I checked, so use these figures to judge the size of the bill and expect some change for 2027/2028.
| Item (2025/2026) | Amount | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Architecture tuition, first figure | ₦870,000 | Under the heading “Tuition and accommodation fees” |
| Other three yearly figures | ₦870,000, ₦820,000 and ₦830,000 | The schedule does not label which level each figure belongs to |
| Acceptance fee | ₦30,000 | 100 level only |
| Matriculation fee | ₦20,000 | 100 level only |
| Online course registration and ICT | ₦60,000 | Every level |
| Library fee | ₦20,000 | General charges |
| Parents’ Forum fee | ₦10,000 | General charges |
| Medical and drug test | ₦10,000 | 100 to 300 level |
| Faculty and departmental fees | ₦5,000 and ₦3,000 | All faculties except Law |
There are smaller charges as well, such as student affairs, sports, sanitation, entrepreneurship, health insurance and ID card fees. Tuition is paid per session: 60% in the first semester and the remaining 40% within three months of resumption. The other fees must be cleared before course registration. Architecture and Industrial Design share the highest figures in the faculty, ₦50,000 more than the science courses at the first figure. Budget separately for drawing materials, models and software. Ask the bursary what the tuition line covers, especially accommodation, before you budget.
Studying Architecture at GOUNI
Is GOUNI Architecture accredited by NUC and ARCON?
- GOUNI’s own statement: the accreditation page says all its programmes have NUC accreditation, without a list of programme results or dates.
- ARCON visit: a GOUNI news article reports an accreditation visit by the Architects Registration Council of Nigeria (ARCON), led by Arc. Ifeanyi T. H. Nnaobi. The article is not dated on the page, and it does not state the outcome. It says the team proposed a separate Faculty of Architecture and that the Vice-Chancellor committed to moving the department to the main campus at Ugwuomu-Nike.
- NUC publication: the NUC’s “Accreditation Results 1990 to 2025” document (September 2026) is online, but the copy I could read stops before universities starting with G, and a search of NUC’s report pages turned up no report naming this GOUNI programme.
- Why ARCON matters: NUC’s May 2025 letter limiting professional bodies’ role in accrediting university programmes left a few councils able to continue, and ARCON was one of them (The Sun, 22 May 2025). An ARCON result affects your path to registration as an architect.
So I am treating both the NUC and ARCON results for GOUNI Architecture as not confirmed. An accreditation visit is a good sign that the programme is being assessed, but it is not the same as a published result. Before you pay tuition, ask the department in writing for its current NUC and ARCON status, and keep the reply.
What you study
GOUNI’s B.Sc. Architecture handbook (2023 to 2028) describes a first degree of at least eight semesters, followed by a four-semester professional master’s. UTME entrants need 120 units: 32 at 100 level, 34 at 200 level, 28 at 300 level and 26 at 400 level.
| Level | Main courses in GOUNI’s handbook |
|---|---|
| 100 level | Introduction to Architecture, Graphics Communication I and II, Basic Computer Applications, Introduction to Sustainable Built Environment, Elementary Mathematics, General Physics, Hybrid Igbo Traditional Architecture |
| 200 level | Architectural Design Studio I and II, Introduction to CAD, Building Components and Methods I and II, History of World and Traditional Architecture, Building Materials and Workshop Practice, Building Structures I and II |
| 300 level | Architectural Design Studio III, Building Components and Methods III, Building Structures III, Building Services I, Building Information Modelling, Research Methods, Entrepreneurship for Architects, SIWES |
| 400 level | Architectural Design Studio IV and V, Building Components and Methods IV, Building Services II, Theory and Methods of Contemporary Architecture, Building Economics, Quantities and Estimating, Professional Practice, Dissertation |
SIWES (ARC 302) falls in the second semester of 300 level. The handbook is not consistent on its length: one section says three months and the course description says at least 24 weeks, so ask the department which applies. GOUNI’s own courses (GOU-ARC) include Hybrid Igbo Traditional Architecture, and electives on climate and anthropology in architecture and on urban form.
Careers
With the B.Sc. alone you can work as an architectural assistant, draughtsperson, 3D visualiser or BIM technician, or in construction and real estate firms. To practise as a registered architect you need the professional master’s, supervised experience and ARCON registration. Some graduates move into urban planning, interior design, project management or property development.

Mistakes that cost Architecture applicants a GOUNI place
- Writing Biology or Economics as the fourth UTME subject without checking GOUNI’s handbook list.
- No Physics credit at O’level; every version of the rule needs it.
- Three sittings when the handbook allows two.
- Leaving GOUNI as second choice without a change of institution.
- Missing the e-mail with the decision.
