The GOUNI Industrial Chemistry cut-off mark is 150 in the UTME. Godfrey Okoye University, Enugu lists 150 as the minimum for every programme outside Medicine, Law and Nursing for 2026/2027, which matches JAMB’s national minimum for universities. GOUNI has not published a higher score for Industrial Chemistry, and the application form costs nothing.
2027/2028 update: GOUNI cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.
Industrial Chemistry applicants usually get the score right and stumble on subjects. JAMB lists the course for GOUNI under the plain name Industrial Chemistry, and its brochure makes Chemistry and Mathematics compulsory in the UTME. GOUNI’s own curriculum prints a different UTME line, and I explain below which one to follow. You will also find the O’level rule, Direct Entry and JUPEB, how GOUNI decides, the 2025/2026 fees, what the four years look like and where the degree leads.

Cut-off history for Industrial Chemistry at GOUNI
| Session | Figure | What it is | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2026/2027 | 150 | GOUNI minimum for “other programmes”, which covers Industrial Chemistry | Official, GOUNI admission form page |
| 2026/2027 | 150 | JAMB minimum for universities | Official, JAMB policy meeting of 11 May 2026 |

| 2025/2026 | 150 | JAMB minimum for universities | Reported by Nairametrics, 8 July 2025 |
I could not find a separate Industrial Chemistry score from GOUNI for any session. The form page names higher figures only for Medicine and Surgery (200), Law (200) and Nursing (180). Everything else, including Industrial Chemistry, sits at 150.
What score should you aim for? (my advice)
Industrial Chemistry draws fewer applicants than Medicine, Nursing or Computer Science, and GOUNI decides each form as it comes in. The bands below are my own reading, not a GOUNI rule:
| Your UTME score | My read for GOUNI Industrial Chemistry |
|---|---|
| Below 150 | Not eligible through UTME this year. Consider JUPEB at GOUNI or an ND in Science Laboratory Technology followed by Direct Entry. |
| 150 to 159 | Eligible at GOUNI. Your O’level will decide it, so check all five science-side credits are in place. |
| 160 to 179 | Comfortable at GOUNI, and also clears the 160 floor at ESUT and UNN if you want a public option. |
| 180 and above | Comfortable anywhere in Enugu for this course. You could also look at GOUNI’s Biochemistry if you lean towards the life sciences. |
UTME subject combination and O’level for Industrial Chemistry at GOUNI
JAMB’s brochure entry for Industrial Chemistry has remarks for dozens of universities, but none for GOUNI. The general lines therefore apply to you.
| Requirement | Industrial Chemistry at GOUNI |
|---|---|
| JAMB course name | Industrial Chemistry (Godfrey Okoye University) |
| UTME subjects (JAMB) | Use of English, Chemistry, Mathematics and any one of Physics, Biology or Agricultural Science |
| UTME subjects (GOUNI curriculum) | English, Physics, Biology and Chemistry |
| O’level (JAMB) | Five credits in English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics and Biology or Agricultural Science |
| O’level (GOUNI curriculum) | Five credits in English, Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics and Biology, in not more than two sittings |
| GOUNI form page | Five credits in the course’s subjects, English and Mathematics included |
| Direct Entry (JAMB) | Two A-level passes in Chemistry and Mathematics, or a relevant ND such as Science Laboratory Technology |
| Direct Entry (GOUNI curriculum) | Two A-level passes at one sitting from Physics, Mathematics, Biology and Chemistry, or an ND upper credit in Laboratory Technology (Chemistry option) or a related course; entry at 200 level |
| JUPEB at GOUNI | Chemistry, Physics, and Biology or Mathematics |
Which UTME subjects to write
The two documents clash. GOUNI’s September 2023 curriculum names English, Physics, Biology and Chemistry, with no Mathematics. JAMB’s brochure makes Mathematics compulsory beside Chemistry. CAPS checks your subjects against the brochure, not against a university handbook, so a candidate without Mathematics in the UTME risks being flagged when GOUNI tries to admit them.
My advice is to write English, Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics. It satisfies JAMB’s rule fully, it shares three subjects with the curriculum’s list, and it keeps GOUNI’s Chemistry, Physics and Biochemistry options open if you change course later. Physics also carries straight into the 100 level courses in General Physics and Process Science. If you are stronger in Biology, English, Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology is the other combination JAMB allows. Our JAMB Chemistry syllabus lists the topics to revise.
The O’level line in plain terms
- The five credits: English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics and Biology. JAMB also accepts Agricultural Science in place of Biology, but GOUNI’s own curriculum names Biology, so Biology is the safer choice.
- Sittings: the curriculum sets a maximum of two sittings. Combine WAEC and NECO if you must, but no more than two results.
- D7 or E8 in Physics or Mathematics: not enough. Every subject in the list must be a credit.
- Awaiting result: you can sit the UTME and fill the GOUNI form while you wait, but GOUNI cannot move you on CAPS until the result is uploaded.
Direct Entry and JUPEB
A-level candidates with Chemistry and Mathematics, and ND holders in Science Laboratory Technology (Chemistry option) at upper credit, can apply on JAMB’s Direct Entry form. GOUNI’s curriculum places Direct Entry students at 200 level, on a three-year route needing at least 90 units. The form page itself says only that DE applicants should use the current JAMB Direct Entry form.
GOUNI also runs JUPEB on campus. For Industrial Chemistry the subjects are Chemistry, Physics, and Biology or Mathematics. The programme runs for nine to eleven months, the on-campus form costs ₦10,000, and you need five credits in no more than two sittings.
How GOUNI screens Industrial Chemistry applicants
The official form page describes no Post-UTME test for undergraduate courses. You fill an online form, the admissions office checks it against your UTME score and O’level, and the decision comes to your e-mail. The page mentions no written test, interview or aggregate score for Industrial Chemistry.
| Detail | What GOUNI published for 2026/2027 |
|---|---|
| Where to apply | The admission form on the official GOUNI website (gouni.edu.ng) |
| Form fee | Free (only Medicine and Surgery, Nursing and Law charge ₦5,000) |
| Minimum UTME score | 150 for Industrial Chemistry and every other programme outside Medicine, Law and Nursing |
| O’level | Five credits in the subjects the course needs, including English Language and Mathematics |
| Written test or interview | None described |
| Decision | Sent by e-mail within three working days of submitting the form |
| After an offer | Acceptance fee first, then tuition, ICT and the other charges |
| Other entry routes | Direct Entry (on JAMB’s Direct Entry form), JUPEB, transfer (CGPA 2.5 on a 4-point scale or 4.0 on a 5-point scale) and postgraduate |
| Aggregate formula | Not published |
The reply comes by e-mail, so give an address you check daily and type it carefully. One wrong letter and the offer goes nowhere.
Worked example (illustrative)
GOUNI publishes no aggregate formula, so this example only checks score and subjects.
Ebuka scored 176 in English, Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics. His WAEC from one sitting shows B3 in Chemistry, C4 in Mathematics, C5 in English, C6 in Physics, B2 in Biology and C5 in Economics.
- Score: 176 is 26 above GOUNI’s 150.
- UTME subjects: Chemistry and Mathematics are both there, plus Physics. He meets JAMB’s rule.
- O’level: English, Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics and Biology are all credits in one sitting.
- Next step: fill the free form, watch his e-mail, accept on CAPS.
Adaeze scored 184, higher than Ebuka, but wrote English, Chemistry, Biology and Physics, the line printed in GOUNI’s curriculum. Mathematics is missing from her UTME, so she does not meet JAMB’s brochure line for Industrial Chemistry. She should e-mail GOUNI before paying anything, or ask about Microbiology, whose JAMB line (Biology, Chemistry and Physics or Mathematics) fits her subjects.
Admission odds and advice
- Subjects decide most cases: at 150 and above, a missing Mathematics in the UTME or a missing Physics credit is what stops people.
- Fix your institution early: GOUNI can only propose candidates who have it on their JAMB profile.
- Reply fast: GOUNI answers in about three working days, so an offer can come well before the big public universities move.
- Ask before paying: confirm by e-mail anything that is unclear, such as an Agricultural Science credit in place of Biology.
- Timing: JAMB set 30 November 2026 as the 2026/2027 admission deadline for private universities, and GOUNI repeated it in its news post of 12 May 2026. That window runs until 30 November 2026. A 2027 candidate should expect a similar date for 2027/2028, but JAMB announces it each year.
Who this course suits
I would point a candidate here if they like Chemistry practicals and want work that ends in a product: paint, soap, drinks, drugs, fertiliser. If you prefer theory and research, GOUNI’s B.Sc. Chemistry is the closer fit. If you are drawn to living systems, look at Biochemistry.
How to apply for Industrial Chemistry at GOUNI, step by step
- Get your JAMB profile code: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN.
- Register the UTME correctly: choose Godfrey Okoye University and the course “Industrial Chemistry”, and write English, Chemistry, Mathematics and one of Physics, Biology or Agricultural Science.
- Upload your O’level to CAPS: do it at a JAMB-accredited centre once your WAEC or NECO result is out. GOUNI cannot propose you on CAPS until the result is there.
- Make GOUNI your institution: if you chose another university first, do a JAMB change of institution to GOUNI before admission lists are drawn up.
- Fill the GOUNI form: open the admission form page on gouni.edu.ng, pick Industrial Chemistry from the Faculty of Natural Science and Environmental Studies list and submit. The form is free for this course.
- Check your e-mail: GOUNI says the decision comes within three working days.
- Accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, open Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS, and accept within JAMB’s four-week window. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status you may see.
- Pay and clear: pay the acceptance fee through the university’s own online payment platform only (GOUNI warns that payments into personal accounts are at the payer’s risk), then print your JAMB admission letter for clearance.
How much is Industrial Chemistry at GOUNI? (last published fees)
The newest GOUNI fee schedule I could find is for the 2025/2026 session. The 2026/2027 schedule was not online when I checked, so use these figures to judge the size of the bill and expect some change.
| Level | Industrial Chemistry tuition (2025/2026) |
|---|---|
| 100 level | ₦820,000 |
| 200 level | ₦790,000 |
| 300 level | ₦740,000 |
| 400 level | ₦750,000 |
| Item (2025/2026) | Amount | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Tuition | ₦820,000 | 100 level figure under the heading “Tuition and accommodation fees” |
| Acceptance fee | ₦30,000 | 100 level only |
| Matriculation fee | ₦20,000 | 100 level only |
| Online course registration and ICT | ₦60,000 | Every level |
| Library fee | ₦20,000 | Every level |
| Parents’ Forum fee | ₦10,000 | Every level |
| Medical and drug test | ₦10,000 | 100 to 300 level (₦20,000 at 400 level) |
| Faculty and departmental fees | ₦5,000 and ₦3,000 | Every level |
| All “other fees” at 100 level | ₦201,500 | The schedule’s own total for 100 level |
| Laboratory fee | ₦50,000 | Every level, Biological and Chemical Sciences students only |
| IT/SIWES fee | ₦7,000 | 300 level, NASES and FACIT students |
| DNALC fee | ₦168,750 (or $450) | Final year, Biological and Chemical Sciences |
| GCCP fee | ₦30,000 | Final year |
Adding the 100 level tuition, the ₦201,500 of other fees and the ₦50,000 laboratory fee gives roughly ₦1,071,500 for a first-year Industrial Chemistry student on the 2025/2026 schedule, before hostel, books and upkeep. Tuition is a sessional fee: 60% in the first semester and the other 40% within three months of resumption. All other fees must be paid in full before course registration. The schedule shows no separate hostel row even though the tuition heading mentions accommodation, so ask the bursary what the tuition line covers before you budget.
Studying Industrial Chemistry at GOUNI
Industrial Chemistry sits in the Department of Chemical Sciences, which also runs Biochemistry, according to GOUNI’s Industrial Chemistry course page (updated 25 September 2025). The page and the curriculum agree on four years for UTME entrants with at least 120 units, and three years with at least 90 units for Direct Entry.
Is GOUNI Industrial Chemistry accredited?
- GOUNI’s own statement: the accreditation page says all its programmes have NUC accreditation, with no list of programme results or dates.
- 2021 results: a Myschool report of 9 August 2021 listed 13 GOUNI programmes with full NUC accreditation, among them Biochemistry from the same department. Industrial Chemistry was not on that list.
- Fee schedule and curriculum: the course appears in GOUNI’s 2025/2026 fee schedule and has its own curriculum on the CCMAS page, so it is running.
- NUC publication: the NUC’s “Accreditation Results 1990 to 2025” document (September 2026) is online, but the copy I could read stops before universities starting with G, and a search of NUC’s report pages turned up nothing naming this GOUNI programme.
I am treating the NUC status of Industrial Chemistry as not confirmed. I found no report of a denied or suspended result either. Ask the admissions office by e-mail before you pay tuition.
What you study
GOUNI’s B.Sc. Industrial Chemistry curriculum (September 2023) sets out the four years. The general courses (Communication in English, Philosophy and Logic, Entrepreneurship, Peace and Conflict Resolution) run beside the chemistry.
| Level | Main courses in GOUNI’s curriculum |
|---|---|
| 100 level | General Chemistry I and II with practicals, General Physics I and II with practicals, Elementary Mathematics I and II, Introduction to Computing, Engineering Graphics and Solid Modelling |
| 200 level | Physical, Organic, Inorganic and Analytical Chemistry I, Process Science I and II, Computer Programming I, Instrumentation Chemistry and Analytical Methods |
| 300 level | Physical, Inorganic and Organic Chemistry II, Petroleum Chemistry, Polymer Chemistry, Industrial Raw Materials Resource Inventory, Glassblowing Practical, Corrosion Chemistry and Control, Computational Chemistry and Molecular Docking, Medicinal Chemistry, Industrial Attachment |
| 400 level | Chemistry of Industrial Processes, Chemical Processes Technology, Macromolecular Chemistry, Geochemistry, Heterocyclic Chemistry, Environmental Chemistry and Waste Management, Chemo-statistics, Seminar, Research Project (6 units) |
GOUNI adds its own electives, such as Food Chemistry and Biotechnology, Colour Chemistry Technology, Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, Cement and Fertilizer Chemistry and Organic Synthesis. The industrial attachment, ICH 399, is a 12-week placement at 300 level worth 3 units. The curriculum describes two 12-week placements on the four-year route, but lists a course code only for the 300 level one.
Careers
GOUNI’s course page lists petrochemicals, paints, brewing, pharmaceuticals and cosmetics, sugar, paper and pulp, textiles, fertiliser, ceramics, iron and steel, coal, and dyestuffs and explosives. The curriculum adds production supervision, quality control, research and development and technical sales, plus environmental and regulatory agencies. Many graduates also start small businesses producing soap, detergents, disinfectant or paint, or supplying laboratory chemicals.

Mistakes that cost Industrial Chemistry applicants a GOUNI place
- Leaving Mathematics out of the UTME because the GOUNI handbook does not list it.
- No Physics credit: Physics is in both the JAMB and the GOUNI O’level lists.
- Three or more sittings combined to make up five credits.
- Leaving GOUNI as second choice without a change of institution.
- Missing the e-mail with the decision, or paying anyone outside GOUNI’s payment platform.
