Abia Poly Hospitality Management Cut-Off Mark 2027/2028 and Admission Requirements

The Abia Poly Hospitality Management cut off mark is JAMB’s polytechnic minimum of 100, with no departmental figure published. See the course status, the science-based subject combination, the O’level Chemistry rule and CAPS steps.

The Abia Poly Hospitality Management cut off mark is 100 in the UTME, JAMB’s minimum for polytechnics for 2026/2027. Abia State Polytechnic, renamed Ogbonnaya Onu Polytechnic, Aba in 2024, has not published its own cut-off for ND Hospitality Management. The “120 and above” figure on blogs is unofficial.

2027/2028 update: Abia Poly cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.

Two things catch applicants out with this course. First, Hospitality Management is on JAMB’s list for Abia State Polytechnic but was not in the course list of the 2025/2026 ND/HND advert, so confirm it is admitting. Second, JAMB treats it as a science-based course: Biology or Agricultural Science is required in the UTME, and Chemistry is compulsory at O’level. Below are the verified figures, a safe target score (my advice), the full subject rules, screening and the CAPS steps.

The 2026/2027 admission status of Hospitality Management at Abia Poly is unverified. It is on JAMB’s list for the school but was missing from the 2025/2026 advert list, so confirm with the polytechnic before paying for a form.

Safe target score for Hospitality Management at Abia Poly (my advice)

This table is my judgement as an admissions adviser. It is not an Abia Poly rule, and the school has not published merit lists with scores.

Your UTME scoreMy read for ND Hospitality Management at Abia Poly
Below 100Not eligible for any ND course this session
100 to 119Eligible; a place is possible if the course is running
120 to 139Good chance
140 and aboveStrong. This is the range I would aim for.

For the 2027 UTME I would aim for 140 or more, with credits in English, Mathematics, Biology and Chemistry. Hospitality Management usually draws fewer applicants than the business courses, but the subject rules knock out many people who do apply.

Catchment and state of origin

Abia Poly is owned by the Abia State Government, but it has not published a catchment list or a quota split for 2026/2027. It admits candidates from every state. I would not count on any indigene advantage unless the school’s own notice mentions one.

Abia Poly Hospitality Management subject combination and O’level requirements

RequirementND Hospitality Management
UTME subjectsUse of English, Biology or Agricultural Science, and any two of Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Economics
O’levelFive credits in Biology/Agricultural Science and Mathematics, plus three from Geography, Food and Nutrition, Economics, Technical Drawing, English Language, Physics, Chemistry, a Nigerian language and Home Economics
Compulsory O’level creditsEnglish Language and Chemistry
Exams acceptedWAEC, NECO and NABTEB are the usual ones
Abia Poly remark in the brochureNone
Interview or practicalNone published

Many candidates expect Hospitality Management to take arts or commercial subjects. JAMB’s polytechnic brochure says otherwise: Biology or Agricultural Science is required in the UTME, with two of Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Economics. Food and Nutrition and Home Economics are not UTME options for this course, even though they count at O’level. If you need to revise, see our JAMB Biology syllabus and JAMB Chemistry syllabus.

My choice would be Biology, Chemistry and Economics. Chemistry ties in with food science, and Economics with the business side of hotels. Mathematics is not compulsory in the UTME, but you do need a credit in it at O’level.

Your five O’level credits must include English Language, Mathematics, Biology or Agricultural Science, and Chemistry. Some polytechnics have remarks that drop the Chemistry rule, but Abia Poly has none, so a missing Chemistry credit can rule you out. The 2025/2026 advert reprint’s “at least four (4) Passes” line is cut short; plan with five credits.

Direct Entry and the HND route

ND Hospitality Management has no Direct Entry. You enter through the UTME and CAPS. After the ND and one year of industrial attachment, HND applications go directly to the polytechnic, if Abia Poly runs the HND in this field.

For HND admission, a blog (schoolings.org, page updated 12 March 2026) reprinted a notice it credits to the polytechnic’s management: a ₦5,000 form, five O’level credits, an ND at Lower Credit or above, a one-year industrial attachment, and a screening test with no make-up date. I have not seen the original notice, so treat those details as unconfirmed.

How Abia Poly screening works

I could not find an official 2026/2027 screening notice from Abia Poly. Its website did not load for me, and Myschool, which usually reprints polytechnic adverts, has none for this session. What follows comes from the 2025/2026 advert reprinted by Myschool and from a blog description of the 2026/2027 form, so check every detail on the portal.

The exam slip in the blog description suggests a written or computer test. Abia Poly has not said how it weighs that test against your UTME score.

Worked example for an ND Hospitality Management applicant

With no published aggregate, begin with the margins and the subject rules. Take Kelechi, who scored 126 in English, Biology, Chemistry and Economics, with credits in English, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and Food and Nutrition from one sitting.

  1. Eligibility: 126 minus 100 = 26. He clears JAMB’s minimum.
  2. Against the blog figure: 126 minus 120 = 6.
  3. Against my safe target: 140 minus 126 = 14. He is in the good-chance band.
  4. O’level check: English, Mathematics, Biology and Chemistry credits are all there, and Food and Nutrition counts as the fifth. He confirms the course is admitting before paying.

Many Nigerian polytechnics rank candidates by a mix of UTME score and screening score. Purely to show how such a mix works, take the UTME score divided by 8 (out of 50) plus a screening score out of 50. Kelechi’s 126 gives 15.75, and a screening score of 35 out of 50 would give him 50.75 out of 100. This formula is an illustration only. Abia Poly has not published one.

Your chances of getting Hospitality Management at Abia Poly

  • If the course is running, competition is usually lighter than for Mass Communication or Accountancy.
  • Most rejections in this course come from the subject rules, especially no Chemistry credit or no Biology in the UTME.
  • If Hospitality Management is not admitting, Food Technology is the nearest science-based course on JAMB’s Abia Poly list.
  • JAMB’s deadline for 2026/2027 polytechnic admissions was 31 December 2026, so keep checking CAPS.

Hotels, restaurants and event businesses hire for skill and attitude. Industrial attachment in a good hotel during your studies will help you more than a high grade alone.

How to apply for Hospitality Management at Abia Poly

  1. Get your JAMB profile code: text NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN.
  2. Register the UTME correctly: pick Hospitality Management with English, Biology or Agricultural Science and two of Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Economics. JAMB still lists the school as Abia State Polytechnic, Aba, even though it was renamed Ogbonnaya Onu Polytechnic in November 2024.
  3. Fix your choice if needed: if Abia Poly was not your choice, do a JAMB change of institution before screening opens. To move into this course from another one, see JAMB change of course.
  4. Upload your O’level to CAPS: do this at a JAMB accredited centre. JAMB cannot offer you admission while CAPS shows no O’level result.
  5. Fill the screening form: on the Abia Poly applicant portal (portal.abiastatepolytechnic.edu.ng), generate the invoice, pay, complete the form, upload your documents, and print the acknowledgement and exam slip.
  6. Sit the screening: go with your slip, UTME result slip and O’level results if a test is held.
  7. Accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, open Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS, and accept the offer. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status.
  8. Pay acceptance and clear: Abia Poly has not published its acceptance fee in any official source I reached. Pay only through an invoice generated on the school portal, then complete clearance.

Warning

Admission into Abia Poly comes through JAMB CAPS. If anyone offers you a “special list” slot for money, walk away. A genuine offer appears on your CAPS page, and genuine school payments are made through a portal invoice in your name.

If you still need to sit the UTME, read when JAMB 2027 registration starts, and when results come out, see how to check your JAMB result.

Studying Hospitality Management at Abia Poly

Hospitality Management is listed among Abia Poly’s ND programmes in the JAMB brochure. The ND prepares you to run and work in hotels, restaurants, catering services and tourism businesses.

What you study

  • Food production and kitchen operations
  • Food and beverage service
  • Accommodation and front office operations
  • Food science, nutrition and hygiene
  • Hospitality marketing and basic accounting
  • Tourism basics, computer applications and general studies

Duration and accreditation

Under the standard NBTE structure, the ND runs for two years full time. Students who want the HND then do a one-year industrial attachment (SIWES or IT) before applying, and the HND usually asks for an ND at Lower Credit or above. Abia Poly has not published a course-specific timetable, so treat this as the national pattern.

On accreditation, the history matters. In 2022 the NBTE withdrew Abia State Polytechnic’s accreditation, and reports said students were barred from NYSC mobilisation. The Abia State Government announced on 1 September 2022 that accreditation had been restored after it released ₦450 million and held talks with the NBTE. I could not confirm the current NBTE status of ND Hospitality Management itself, so ask the department, or check the NBTE’s list, before you pay fees.

Careers after the ND

  • Front office, housekeeping and food and beverage roles in hotels
  • Cook or kitchen supervisor in restaurants and catering firms
  • Event planning and outdoor catering businesses
  • HND Hospitality Management, or a degree in Hospitality and Tourism Management

Mistakes Hospitality Management applicants make

  • Registering arts or commercial subjects only: Biology or Agricultural Science is required in the UTME.
  • No Chemistry credit: the brochure makes it compulsory and Abia Poly has no waiver.
  • Assuming Food and Nutrition is a UTME subject: it counts only at O’level.
  • Not checking the course is admitting: it was missing from the 2025/2026 advert list.
  • No O’level on CAPS: your offer cannot be processed.

Abia Poly Hospitality Management: frequently asked questions

What is the JAMB subject combination for Hospitality Management in polytechnic? Use of English, Biology or Agricultural Science, and any two of Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Economics.

Is Chemistry compulsory for Hospitality Management at Abia Poly? At O’level, yes. The brochure makes credits in English Language and Chemistry compulsory, and Abia Poly has no remark waiving Chemistry. In the UTME, Chemistry is one option among four.

Can an art student study Hospitality Management in Abia Poly? Not without Biology or Agricultural Science in the UTME and credits in Mathematics and Chemistry at O’level. If you lack those, Business Administration and Management is a closer fit.

Does Abia Poly still offer Hospitality Management? It is on JAMB’s list for Abia State Polytechnic, but it was not in the 2025/2026 advert’s course list. Ask the polytechnic whether it is admitting before you apply.

Sources and updates

The 100 minimum for polytechnics and the 31 December 2026 admission deadline come from the News Agency of Nigeria report of JAMB’s 2026 policy meeting (11 May 2026). The 2025 figure of 100 is from Nairametrics (8 July 2025) and matching Blueprint and AllAfrica reports. The UTME and O’level requirements are from JAMB’s polytechnic brochure as reprinted by Myschool (ND Hospitality Management brochure page), which has no Abia Poly remark. The course appears on the Myschool list of Abia State Polytechnic courses taken from the JAMB brochure, but not in the 2025/2026 ND/HND advert list reprinted by Myschool (26 July 2025). The “120 and above” figure and the screening form steps are from o3schools (3 February 2026) and are unofficial. The HND details are from a schoolings.org reprint (12 March 2026) that I could not match to an original notice. The renaming to Ogbonnaya Onu Polytechnic on 7 November 2024 and the school’s location are from Wikipedia and news reports of the renaming. The 2022 accreditation withdrawal and restoration are from news reports and the Abia State Government (1 September 2022). The safe target scores and the worked example are my own advice. Checked on 29 October 2026; this page will be updated when Abia Poly publishes its 2027/2028 notice.
