Renaissance University (RNU) Industrial Chemistry Cut-Off Mark 2027/2028 and Admission Requirements

Renaissance University, Ugbawka, accepts 150 in the UTME for Industrial Chemistry. See why Mathematics is compulsory, RNU’s stricter O’level rule, fees and the CAPS steps.

The Renaissance University Industrial Chemistry cut off mark is 150 in the UTME. Renaissance University (RNU), Ugbawka, publishes one minimum score for every programme it runs in 2026/2027, and that minimum is the same as JAMB’s national minimum for universities. RNU has not published a separate, higher figure for Industrial Chemistry.

2027/2028 update: RNU cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.

Industrial Chemistry is RNU’s chemistry degree, run in the Faculty of Natural and Applied Sciences. It is on RNU’s programme list and on JAMB’s course list for RNU under the same name, and the JAMB brochure carries two remarks that apply only to RNU. Those remarks change which O’level subjects you need, so read the subject section carefully. This page also gives the official figures, a safe target score (my advice), screening, fees and the CAPS steps.

Is Industrial Chemistry on RNU’s JAMB course list?

Yes. It is on both lists that decide whether RNU can admit you into it: RNU’s own programme list and JAMB’s course list for RNU.

RNU was not on the list of institution cut-offs announced at JAMB’s 2026 policy meeting, so its own pages are the only official source for the 150. The 2026/2027 announcement also says candidates who scored 150 or more in the 2023 and 2024 JAMB examinations can apply. That line looks carried over from an older notice, so if you plan to use an old UTME result, ask Admissions before you pay anything.

Safe target score for Industrial Chemistry at RNU (my advice)

This is my judgement as an admissions adviser. RNU has not published these bands.

Your UTME scoreMy read for Industrial Chemistry at RNU
Below 150Not eligible for RNU this session
150 to 169Eligible. Fair chance if all five O’level credits are in place
170 to 199Comfortable
200 and aboveStrong, and it keeps public universities open as a backup

Industrial Chemistry has no council quota at admission level, and private universities rarely fill it beyond capacity. The 150 minimum and the right O’level usually decide it. RNU’s FAQ says some programmes may need more than 150, so I would aim for 175 or more.

UTME subject combination and O’level for RNU Industrial Chemistry

RequirementIndustrial Chemistry at RNU
UTME subjectsUse of English, Chemistry, Mathematics and one of Physics, Biology or Agricultural Science (JAMB brochure)
O’level (JAMB general)Five credits in English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics and Biology or Agricultural Science
O’level (RNU remark in the brochure)Five credits at not more than two sittings including English, Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics and Biology
O’level (RNU table)Same five: English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology
Awaiting resultsNo RNU rule published; ask Admissions
Post-UTMENone published

Mathematics is compulsory in the UTME for Industrial Chemistry, which catches out candidates who register it like plain Chemistry with Biology and Physics. Your fourth subject can be Physics, Biology or Agricultural Science.

The O’level is where RNU is stricter than JAMB. JAMB’s general line lets Agricultural Science stand in for Biology, but RNU’s remark and its own table both name Biology and Physics. So even if you take Agricultural Science in the UTME, you still need O’level credits in both Physics and Biology for RNU.

Direct Entry into Industrial Chemistry at RNU

RNU’s Direct Entry page lists Industrial Chemistry among the programmes open to Direct Entry. It gives one set of rules for all courses:

QualificationRNU’s stated minimum
A’level (Cambridge, JUPEB or IJMB)At least two passes in relevant subjects
ND or HNDAt least Lower Credit from a recognised institution
NCEAt least merit in a related field
Also requiredO’level result, passport photographs and JAMB Direct Entry registration for the current year

JAMB’s general Direct Entry line asks for two A’level passes in Chemistry and Mathematics, or an ND in Science Technology or another relevant ND alongside the UTME requirements. The brochure adds an RNU remark accepting an ND at credit level from a recognised institution, which fits RNU’s own Lower Credit floor. ND holders in Science Laboratory Technology (chemistry option) or Chemical Engineering Technology should ask which level they would enter.

Does RNU write Post-UTME for Industrial Chemistry?

RNU’s official pages describe a free online application and a document check. None of them mention a Post-UTME test, a screening fee or an aggregate formula. The Direct Entry page says applicants may be asked to attend an interview or bring more documents, so treat any call from Admissions seriously. Every offer still has to go through JAMB CAPS, which means your score, subjects and uploaded O’level must all line up.

Worked example (illustrative)

RNU has no published aggregate, so this example checks eligibility and the money needed before resumption, using RNU’s own figures. Take Ebuka, who scored 171 with English, Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics, and has credits in English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology from one WAEC sitting.

  1. Score check: 171 minus 150 = 21. He clears RNU’s minimum by 21 marks.
  2. UTME check: Chemistry and Mathematics are both there, plus Physics.
  3. O’level check: he has Biology and Physics, so he meets RNU’s stricter remark as well as JAMB’s general line.
  4. Money before resumption on three instalments: 50% of ₦1,800,000 = ₦900,000, plus ₦50,000 acceptance = ₦950,000.
  5. Money before resumption on four instalments: 40% of ₦1,800,000 = ₦720,000, plus ₦50,000 acceptance = ₦770,000.

Ngozi scored 184 with Chemistry, Mathematics and Agricultural Science, and her O’level has Agricultural Science but no Biology. JAMB’s general line would accept her, but RNU’s remark would not. She should add a Biology credit before clearance or ask Admissions in writing whether RNU will accept Agricultural Science.

Industrial Chemistry is in RNU’s ₦1,800,000 band with Biochemistry, Microbiology, Industrial Physics, Nursing and Law. The computing degrees and Medical Laboratory Science are cheaper at ₦1,600,000, and History and International Studies and Mass Communication sit at ₦1,500,000. The tuition schedule doesn’t name a session, so confirm the current figure with the Bursar before you pay.

Your chances of getting Industrial Chemistry at RNU

RNU does not publish applicant numbers or course totals. Industrial Chemistry usually draws fewer applicants than the health sciences at private universities, so a candidate who meets the 150 minimum, has Biology and Physics at O’level and can pay normally stands a good chance. That is my reading, not an RNU statistic.

If you are deciding between Industrial Chemistry and Biochemistry, note the UTME difference: Industrial Chemistry needs Mathematics, Biochemistry needs Biology. Pick the combination before you register, because it decides which course you can be moved into later.

JAMB set 30 November 2026 as the 2026/2027 admission deadline for private universities, as reported by the News Agency of Nigeria on 11 May 2026. That date belongs to the current cycle. For 2027/2028, JAMB will set a fresh date at its next policy meeting, so register early and keep RNU as first choice.

How to apply for Industrial Chemistry at RNU, step by step

  1. Get your JAMB profile code: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the line linked to your NIN.
  2. Register the right subjects: Use of English plus Chemistry, Mathematics and one of Physics, Biology or Agricultural Science. Choose Renaissance University first and pick Industrial Chemistry. If you chose another school, RNU says you must do a JAMB change of institution before it can admit you.
  3. Upload your O’level to CAPS: RNU lists this as part of its own process, and its on-campus JAMB CBT centre handles O’level upload, change of institution and CAPS acceptance for a small charge.
  4. Fill the RNU online form: go to rnu.edu.ng/admissions/regular_admission and choose Industrial Chemistry. There is no application fee, and you can also apply in person at the Admissions Office in Ugbawka.
  5. Answer any follow-up from Admissions: keep your phone on. RNU publishes no test, but it may ask for an interview or more documents.
  6. Accept the offer on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, open Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS. Accept only when the offer shows RNU and Industrial Chemistry. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status.
  7. Pay acceptance and the first instalment: ₦50,000 acceptance, then the first instalment of the session fee. Pay only into the university account shown on rnu.edu.ng and confirm with the Bursar.
  8. Clear with your documents: O’level result, four passport photographs, JAMB result, birth certificate, local government identification letter or certificate of origin, NIN slip, fee receipts, and A’level result for Direct Entry.

Warning

RNU charges no application fee. Anyone who asks you to pay for an RNU form, or promises a guaranteed Industrial Chemistry slot for money, is not acting for the university. A genuine offer shows on your JAMB CAPS page, and fees go only into the account shown on rnu.edu.ng, confirmed with the Bursar.

Studying Industrial Chemistry at Renaissance University

Industrial Chemistry is a B.Sc. in RNU’s Faculty of Natural and Applied Sciences in Ugbawka, Nkanu East Local Government Area of Enugu State. The NUC licensed RNU in 2005. The degree normally runs four years for UTME entrants in Nigeria; RNU’s pages don’t state the duration.

On accreditation, RNU’s pages say its courses are accredited by the NUC but don’t give a result for each course. I searched the NUC’s published programme reports and found none that names RNU for Industrial Chemistry, and the NUC’s 1990 to 2025 results file can’t be read as far down as RNU. In June 2024 the NUC fully re-accredited five RNU programmes (Law, Economics, History and International Studies, Computer Science and Accounting), according to a Myschoolnews report of 30 July 2024; Industrial Chemistry was not one of them. So the NUC status of Industrial Chemistry at RNU is not confirmed here. Ask Admissions for it in writing before you pay acceptance.

What you study

  • Foundations: general chemistry, physics, mathematics and biology.
  • Core chemistry: organic, inorganic, physical and analytical chemistry.
  • Industrial side: chemical process calculations, unit operations, polymer and petroleum chemistry, quality control and plant safety.
  • Final stages: industrial training (SIWES) in a factory or laboratory and a research project.

That outline is how Industrial Chemistry degrees in Nigeria are usually built; RNU has not published its own course list.

Careers

Graduates work in paint, plastics, food, beverage and pharmaceutical factories, oil and gas laboratories, quality control and environmental monitoring, and teaching. Chemists who want professional recognition in Nigeria register with the Institute of Chartered Chemists of Nigeria (ICCON) after graduation.

Chemistry and Mathematics carry this combination; our JAMB Chemistry syllabus lists every topic. If you registered the wrong subjects, see our JAMB change of course guide.

Mistakes that cost Industrial Chemistry applicants an RNU place

  • Leaving Mathematics out of the UTME: it is compulsory for Industrial Chemistry.
  • Relying on Agricultural Science for Biology: JAMB allows it, but RNU’s remark names Biology.
  • No Physics credit: RNU wants Physics at O’level whatever your fourth UTME subject.
  • Paying an agent for a form: RNU’s form is free.
  • RNU not first choice: fix it with a change of institution before RNU starts proposing admissions.
  • Accepting on CAPS and stopping there: acceptance fee and clearance at Ugbawka still follow.
