The MOUAU cut off mark for Computer Engineering is 150 in the UTME, with MOUAU as your first choice. That is the minimum Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike set for every course in its 2026/2027 screening notice. MOUAU did not publish a separate figure for Computer Engineering, so 150 is the only official number.
2027/2028 update: MOUAU cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.
Scoring 150 only lets you register for screening. Whether you get a place depends on how you rank against the other Computer Engineering applicants. Below you will find the official figures, a safe target score (my advice), the JAMB brochure rules for MOUAU, how screening works, a worked example, the CAPS steps and what the B.Eng involves.
MOUAU cut off mark for Computer Engineering: the official figures

Cut-off history for Computer Engineering at MOUAU
| Session | Figure | What it is | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2026/2027 | 150 | MOUAU minimum to register for screening, all courses, MOUAU as first choice | MOUAU notice signed by the Registrar, read through Myschool’s reprint |
| 2026 (national) | 150 | JAMB minimum for all universities | Official, JAMB policy meeting |
| 2025/2026 | Not verified | Blogs say 150; I could not open MOUAU’s own 2025 notice | Unconfirmed |
| Any year, Computer Engineering only | Not published | MOUAU has not released a merit cut-off for this course | No official figure |
MOUAU runs one floor of 150 for every course. Pages that print a MOUAU “departmental cut-off” for Computer Engineering do not cite any MOUAU document, so treat their numbers as guesses. Merit admission is decided after screening, and the score of the last candidate admitted is never made public.
Safe target score for Computer Engineering at MOUAU (my advice)
Computer Engineering is usually the most contested engineering course at any Nigerian university, because it sits close to software and tech jobs, and MOUAU is unlikely to be different. The bands below are my judgement as an admissions adviser. MOUAU has not published them.
| Your UTME score | My read for MOUAU Computer Engineering |
|---|---|
| Below 150 | Not eligible to register for MOUAU screening |
| 150 to 179 | Eligible to register; unlikely on merit for this course |
| 180 to 209 | Possible with excellent O’level grades |
| 210 to 234 | Competitive |
| 235 and above | Strong |
For the 2027 UTME I would aim for at least 210, with all five O’level credits from one sitting and good grades in Mathematics and Physics. If your score lands in the lower bands, still register, and keep a second course in mind (the worked example below shows how).
MOUAU is a federal university and admits from every state. It has not published how it splits places between merit, catchment and educationally less developed states, so do not count on your state of origin to carry a weak score.
JAMB subject combination for Computer Engineering at MOUAU
JAMB’s brochure entry for Computer Engineering, as reprinted by Myschool, gives the UTME subjects as Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry, plus the compulsory Use of English. The entry has no MOUAU remark on UTME subjects, so the general combination is the one to register.
| UTME subject | Status |
|---|---|
| Use of English | Compulsory |
| Mathematics | Compulsory |
| Physics | Compulsory |
| Chemistry | Compulsory |
There is no room for Biology, Economics or Agricultural Science in this combination. If you registered one of those in place of Physics or Chemistry, you do not meet the entry rule for any engineering course, and an offer cannot go through on CAPS. Check your registration slip before the UTME.
O’level requirements for Computer Engineering
| Requirement | What the brochure says |
|---|---|
| General rule | Five credits including Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics and English Language |
| MOUAU remark | “Same as in Civil Engineering”: five credits including Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, English Language and one science subject |
| Sittings | MOUAU’s notice says the number of sittings is weighted, so one sitting ranks you higher |
| Exams accepted | WAEC, NECO, NABTEB |
| Awaiting result | MOUAU told candidates not to register for screening until their results were out |
The general rule for Computer Engineering asks for Further Mathematics, which many secondary schools do not offer. MOUAU’s remark replaces it with the Civil Engineering rule, so at MOUAU any other science subject (Biology, Agricultural Science or Further Mathematics) can be your fifth credit.
Direct Entry into MOUAU Computer Engineering
| Route | What the brochure says |
|---|---|
| General DE rule | Three A level passes in Pure Mathematics (or Pure and Applied Mathematics), Chemistry and Physics |
| MOUAU remark | MOUAU accepts ND/HND upper credit with at least a B average in Mathematics, plus the UTME requirements |
“Plus the UTME requirements” means a diploma holder must also have the O’level credits listed above. Check that your ND or HND transcript shows a B average in the mathematics courses before you register for DE.
How MOUAU screening works
MOUAU’s 2026/2027 notice, signed by the Registrar, Dr (Mrs) Nkeiruka Charity Mbanasor, set these rules for UTME candidates. The 2027/2028 exercise is likely to follow the same pattern, but use the new notice when it comes out.
| Detail | MOUAU 2026/2027 screening |
|---|---|
| Who could apply | Candidates with 150 or more in the 2026 UTME who chose MOUAU first; others could change to MOUAU on the JAMB portal first |
| Registration opened | 6 June 2026, online through www.mouau.edu.ng |
| Registration and validation | portal.mouau.edu.ng |
| Fee | ₦2,000 through Remita, by card or cash at any bank |
| O’level | WAEC, NECO or NABTEB results uploaded to JAMB CAPS at an accredited CBT centre |
| How O’level counts | O’level results and the number of sittings are weighted |
| Awaiting results | Not allowed to register until results are out |
| Payment problems | portal@mouau.edu.ng |
| Closing date and test date | Not stated in the notice as reprinted |
The notice does not describe a written Post-UTME test, so I would not assume one. Plan on MOUAU ranking you by your UTME score and your O’level grades, with one sitting counting in your favour, and keep checking the portal in case a test or extra step is announced. The notice also told candidates to check the portal from time to time for screening results and admission status.
Worked example for two Computer Engineering candidates
MOUAU has not published an aggregate formula, so this example only compares scores with the official minimum and my target. It is illustrative.
Ifeanyi scored 228 in the UTME, with A1 in Mathematics, B2 in Physics, B3 in Chemistry, B3 in English and C4 in Biology, all from one WAEC sitting.
- Eligibility: 228 minus 150 = 78. Ifeanyi clears MOUAU’s minimum easily.
- Against my safe target: 228 minus 210 = 18. That puts Ifeanyi above my target for Computer Engineering.
- O’level check: five credits including English, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry at one sitting. The rule is met, and one sitting helps in MOUAU’s weighting.
- Advice: keep MOUAU as first choice, register for screening as soon as it opens and accept quickly on CAPS.
Chiamaka scored 194, with credits spread over two sittings. Chiamaka is eligible (194 minus 150 = 44) but sits 16 marks below my target, and the two sittings may pull the ranking down further. Chiamaka should still register and keep a backup in mind, such as accepting a related CEET course if MOUAU offers one.
How to apply for Computer Engineering at MOUAU, step by step
- Get your JAMB profile code: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN.
- Register the UTME with MOUAU first: choose Computer Engineering with Use of English, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. If you already put another school first, do a JAMB change of institution before MOUAU’s screening opens.
- Upload your O’level to CAPS: do it at a JAMB-accredited CBT centre. MOUAU’s notice requires your WAEC, NECO or NABTEB result there.
- Register for screening: when MOUAU announces the exercise on www.mouau.edu.ng, register and validate on portal.mouau.edu.ng with your JAMB registration number.
- Pay the screening fee: ₦2,000 in 2026/2027, on the Remita invoice the portal generates. Print every receipt and slip.
- Watch the portal: MOUAU posts screening results and admission status there, and the decision then appears on JAMB CAPS.
- Accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, choose Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS, and accept. JAMB gave candidates four weeks to accept in 2026.
- Pay acceptance and clear: MOUAU has not published its acceptance fee or school fees in any source I reached. Pay only the amount on your MOUAU portal invoice.
Warning
Some websites print a “MOUAU departmental cut-off” for engineering courses, and some people sell admission “slots”. MOUAU’s notice gave one minimum of 150 for every course, and every genuine offer shows on JAMB CAPS. Pay MOUAU only through the Remita invoice from its portal.
JAMB set 31 October 2026 as the date for public universities to finish 2026/2027 admissions. If you applied in 2026, check CAPS now. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status you may see, and our guide on checking your JAMB result covers what to do with your score.
Studying Computer Engineering at MOUAU
Computer Engineering is one of six departments in MOUAU’s College of Engineering and Engineering Technology (CEET). The other five are Agricultural and Bioresources Engineering, Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering and Mechanical Engineering. The campus is at Umudike, about 10 km from Umuahia in Abia State. MOUAU was set up by the Federal Government in November 1992 as a university of agriculture.
What you study
MOUAU has not put a full course outline for this department online in any source I reached. A Nigerian B.Eng in this field normally covers the areas below.
- Foundation years: mathematics, physics, chemistry, engineering drawing, workshop practice and general studies with the rest of CEET.
- Circuits and electronics: circuit theory, analogue and digital electronics.
- Programming and software: programming languages, data structures and software engineering.
- Computer hardware: logic design, computer architecture, microprocessors and embedded systems.
- Networks and communication: data communication, networking and signals.
- Industrial training and project: SIWES placements and a final year hardware or software project.
Duration and accreditation
Nigerian B.Eng degrees usually run five years for UTME entrants, with Direct Entry students joining at 200 level. MOUAU’s own duration for this programme is not confirmed in the sources I reached. I could not confirm the programme’s current NUC or COREN accreditation status either. COREN registers engineers in Nigeria, so before you pay acceptance, ask the department whether the programme holds COREN accreditation.

Mistakes that cost Computer Engineering applicants a MOUAU place
- Wrong UTME subjects: Biology or Agricultural Science in place of Physics or Chemistry rules you out of engineering.
- Dropping MOUAU over Further Mathematics: MOUAU’s remark removes the Further Mathematics credit that the general rule asks for.
- Treating 150 as safe: it only opens the screening door.
- Choosing MOUAU second: the notice asked for MOUAU as first choice.
- O’level missing on CAPS: the notice requires the upload.
- Registering while awaiting results: MOUAU told candidates to wait until results were out.
- Paying anyone outside the portal: MOUAU fees go through the Remita invoice from its portal.
If you need to switch course or school after the UTME, read JAMB change of course and JAMB change of institution.
MOUAU cut off mark for Computer Engineering: frequently asked questions
Do I need Further Mathematics for Computer Engineering in MOUAU? No. The general brochure rule lists Further Mathematics, but MOUAU’s remark says its O’level rule is the same as Civil Engineering: English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and one other science.
Is 200 enough for Computer Engineering in MOUAU? 200 clears the 150 minimum, so you can register for screening. For Computer Engineering it is borderline in my view; aim for 210 or more and one-sitting O’level.
Is Computer Engineering the same as Computer Science at MOUAU? No. Computer Engineering is a B.Eng in the College of Engineering and Engineering Technology, while Computer Science is a science degree in the College of Physical and Applied Sciences. Check each course’s own JAMB entry before you pick.
Can ND holders get Direct Entry into MOUAU Computer Engineering? Yes, if the ND or HND is at upper credit with at least a B average in Mathematics, according to MOUAU’s remark in JAMB’s brochure. You must also meet the O’level requirements.
