The Gregory University cut off mark for History and International Studies is not published as a separate figure. Gregory set 140 as the general minimum UTME score in its 2024/2025 and 2025/2026 notices, but JAMB’s minimum for universities in 2026 is 150, so plan for at least 150 and aim for about 155 to 170. The course is on JAMB’s list of Gregory courses as History and International Studies. On accreditation, I could not find any NUC result for Gregory’s History programme, so its NUC status is not confirmed; ask the university for its NUC letter before you pay. Gregory’s own International Relations programme has full NUC accreditation (90.83%), and History programmes at Abia State University and Clifford University also have full NUC accreditation.
2027/2028 update: Gregory University cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest notices Gregory has published (2024/2025 and 2025/2026) and JAMB’s 2026 national minimum, because no 2026/2027 Gregory notice with a score was available. If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.

Gregory University cut-off history for History and International Studies
| Session | Figure | What it is | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2026/2027 | Not published | No Gregory notice with a minimum score was found | JAMB’s university minimum for 2026 is 150 |
| 2025/2026 | 140 | General minimum UTME score for Gregory’s post-UTME (Gregory as first choice) | Myschool reprint of the notice, 24 July 2025 |
| 2024/2025 | 140 | General minimum UTME score (2023 UTME) for screening | Official, Gregory University website, 19 August 2024 |
Gregory has never published a separate figure for History and International Studies. The 140 applied to every course in both notices. JAMB raised the floor for universities to 150 at its May 2026 policy meeting, so no Gregory notice can admit anyone below 150 for 2026 admissions, and I would not expect the 2027 floor to drop back. Plan with 150 as the line you must cross, and treat anything above it as your margin for the course itself.
Safe target score for History and International Studies at Gregory (my advice)
History has fewer applicants than International Relations or Political Science at most private universities, so a score a little above JAMB’s floor usually goes further. The table is my judgement, not a Gregory rule.
| Your UTME score | My read for Gregory History |
|---|---|
| Below 150 | Not eligible in the 2026 cycle |
| 150 to 159 | Eligible; apply early |
| 160 to 174 | Good chance |
| 175 and above | Strong |
UTME subject combination and O’level for Gregory History and International Studies
| Requirement | History and International Studies |
|---|---|
| UTME subjects | Use of English, History or Government, and any two other Arts or Social Science subjects |
| O’level | Five credits including English Language, Geography and History or Government (as printed in JAMB’s general line) |
| Mathematics | Not named in JAMB’s general line; get at least a pass, ideally a credit |
| Sittings | Not more than two (Gregory’s 2025/2026 notice) |
| Direct Entry | Two A level passes, or NCE upper credit, in History or Government and another related subject (JAMB’s general rule) |
| Gregory-specific remark | None in the brochure reprint |
These rules come from the JAMB brochure entry for History and International Studies as reprinted by Myschool. The general line accepts either History or Government in the UTME, which helps the many candidates who did not take History at school.
The O’level line surprises people: it names Geography among the five credits. Some universities, UNILORIN and UNIUYO among them, have remarks that set their own O’level lists; Gregory has none. If you have a Geography credit, you are covered. If you do not, ask Gregory’s admissions office whether it applies the line strictly before you pay for screening.
How Gregory University screening works for History and International Studies
Gregory runs an online post-UTME registration. The details below come from the university’s 2024 notice and the 2025/2026 notice as reprinted by Myschool. Gregory had not published 2026/2027 dates or a fee in any source I could reach, so treat the fee as last year’s figure.

Worked example for a History candidate
Gregory has not published how it ranks candidates, so there is no official aggregate to calculate. What you can work out is how far your UTME score sits above JAMB’s floor and above a sensible target, and whether your O’level meets the course rules. The method below is my illustration, not a Gregory formula.
Take Uche, who scored 161 with English, Government, Literature in English and CRS, and has B3 in Government, C4 in Geography, C5 in English Language, C4 in Literature and C6 in Mathematics from two sittings.
- National floor: 161 minus 150 = 11.
- Against my safe target: 161 sits inside the 155 to 170 band.
- O’level check: English Language, Geography and Government are credits, plus two more. That meets the general line.
- What I would advise: register early and keep History and International Studies as the course.
Amara scored 176 with English, Government, Economics and CRS, and has every credit except Geography. Her score is comfortable. The Geography gap is the question she must put to Gregory before screening.
How to apply for History and International Studies at Gregory University, step by step
- Get your JAMB profile code: text NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN.
- Register the UTME correctly: pick History and International Studies as the course and Use of English, History or Government, and two other Arts or Social Science subjects as your subjects, with Gregory University, Uturu as your first choice.
- Fix your choice if needed: if Gregory was not your first choice, do a JAMB change of institution before you register for screening. The 2025/2026 notice was for candidates who chose Gregory first.
- Upload your O’level to CAPS: at a JAMB-accredited CBT centre, once your WAEC, NECO or NABTEB result is out. Universities cannot recommend you on CAPS without it.
- Register for screening: on the Gregory post-UTME portal, fill the form, upload your passport photograph (PDF), UTME result and O’level result, then pay the screening fee online.
- Watch CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, open Check Admission Status and then Access my CAPS. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status.
- Accept on CAPS: accept the offer, print your JAMB admission letter, then follow Gregory’s instructions for the acceptance fee and clearance. Gregory has not published its acceptance fee in any source I reached, so confirm the amount on the official portal before paying.
Warning
Gregory University says applicants should pay only through its official portals and that it has no authorised agents. Every genuine admission shows on JAMB CAPS, so ignore anyone selling a “slot” or a “special list”.
For the 2026/2027 cycle, JAMB set 30 November 2026 as the admission deadline for private universities, according to the News Agency of Nigeria (11 May 2026). JAMB also stated that admissions done outside CAPS are illegal. Gregory’s phone lines on its 2024 admission notice were 0806 094 4681 and 0803 733 3920.
Studying History and International Studies at Gregory University
Gregory University is a private university licensed in 2012 and sited at Amaokwe Achara, Uturu, in Isuikwuato Local Government Area of Abia State. Its founder is Prof. Gregory Ikechukwu Ibe. The university lists twelve colleges and says it runs over 55 programmes.
History and International Studies sits in Gregory’s College of Humanities, with English and Literary Studies, French and Theatre Arts. Gregory has not published the duration; a B.A. in History in Nigeria normally takes four years.
NUC accreditation
NUC publishes a report page for each programme it visits. Pages exist for several Gregory courses from the late 2024 exercise, including International Relations, English and Economics, but I found none for Gregory History and International Studies. The Gregory section of NUC’s Accreditation Results 1990 to 2025 publication could not be read. Treat the status as not confirmed and ask the department for its latest NUC letter. A programme with denied accreditation cannot admit new students.
| Alternative | NUC result | Detail |
|---|---|---|
| Gregory University, International Relations | Full | 90.83%, visit 12 to 15 December 2024 |
| Clifford University, Owerrinta, History (named History and International Studies on the NUC report) | Full | 89.91%, visit 24 to 26 November 2024 |
| Abia State University, History and International Studies | Full | NUC results publication, maturity 2028 |
International Relations is in Gregory’s College of Social and Management Sciences and has its own subject rules; check them on our Gregory International Relations page before switching.

Mistakes that cost History applicants
- Planning with 140: JAMB’s 150 floor applies now.
- No History or Government in the UTME: one of them is compulsory.
- Ignoring the Geography line: have the credit or ask Gregory first.
- Paying before checking accreditation: ask for the NUC letter first.
- Gregory not as first choice: fix it with a change of institution before screening.
If you missed out this year, read when JAMB 2027 registration starts.
