ESUT Cut-Off Mark for Nursing Science 2027/2028: Requirements, O’Level Rules and Screening

ESUT set 240 as the minimum UTME score for Nursing Science in 2027/2028, with about 120 places. See the official figures, a safe target score, O’level rules, the online screening, CAPS steps and the programme’s accreditation story.

The ESUT cut off mark for Nursing Science for 2026/2027 is 240 in the UTME. Enugu State University of Science and Technology set that minimum for Nursing Sciences in its official 2026/2027 Post-UTME advert, posted on 4 July 2026 and signed by the Registrar, Ambrose G. Ugwu. Nursing shares ESUT’s highest tier with Medicine and Law.

2027/2028 update: ESUT cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.

You needed 240 to register for screening. ESUT then admits from that pool, and it does not publish the score of the last candidate admitted into Nursing. With a small intake and a very large number of applicants, that score sits well above 240. Below you will find the official figures, a safe target score (my advice), the O’level rules, how ESUT’s online screening works, a worked example, the CAPS steps, and what has changed for ESUT Nursing since its first graduates were inducted in 2025.

ESUT Nursing cut-off history

2025/2026240Minimum UTME score to apply for NursingPrevious year, from DTW Tutorials’ reprint of ESUT’s notice (30 July 2025)
“2025” (as labelled)290“Cut-off” printed by Legit.ngUnofficial; no ESUT document cited, scale unclear

ESUT has kept Nursing at 240 for two sessions. The 290 on Legit.ng is not an ESUT figure, and I would not quote it as one, but it fits what you would expect for a course this crowded. Cut-offs shift each year with the number and quality of applicants.

How many Nursing places ESUT has

This is the number that explains the high scores. At the July 2025 induction of ESUT’s first Nursing graduates, Dr Yomi Jaye, the Enugu State Governor’s Special Adviser on Health, said the school had 50 admission slots before the current administration, that this had been raised to 120, and that the state was pushing for 400. The government report does not say whether 400 has been approved, so plan around 120.

If ESUT receives even a thousand eligible Nursing applicants with 240 or more, roughly one in eight or nine gets in. That is my illustration, not an ESUT statistic, but it shows why clearing 240 is only the start.

Safe target score for Nursing at ESUT (my advice)

This is my judgement as an admissions adviser, not an ESUT rule.

Your 2026 UTME scoreMy read for ESUT Nursing
Below 240Not eligible for Nursing at ESUT this session
240 to 254Eligible, but a place is unlikely
255 to 269Possible with excellent O’level grades
270 to 289Competitive
290 and aboveStrong. This is the range I would aim for.

For the 2027 UTME I would aim for at least 270, ideally 290, with A1 or B2 in English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology.

Catchment

ESUT does not publish a catchment list. As an Enugu State university, its primary catchment is Enugu indigenes, and the Nursing expansion was announced as part of a state push to train more nurses. It still admits candidates from all states. No merit, catchment or ELDS split has been published by ESUT, so don’t count on the federal 45/35/20 formula.

O’levelFive credits: English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology

Awaiting resultsAllowed for May/June 2026 results released by 30 September 2026
Direct EntryESUT screens DE candidates online; it has not published DE requirements for Nursing
InterviewNone mentioned in the 2026/2027 advert

Physics is the subject Nursing candidates most often drop by mistake. JAMB’s usual combination for Nursing Science includes it, so do not swap it for Mathematics or Economics on registration day. ESUT’s own brochure remark for Nursing was not available to me, so check it on your JAMB e-Facility profile.

Your names must match on your O’level certificates, your UTME result and every other document, according to the advert.

How ESUT screening works for Nursing

ESUT’s 2026/2027 screening had no aptitude test and no physical screening. Candidates registered on the portal, paid ₦2,000 and had their O’level results on JAMB CAPS.

Worked example for a Nursing candidate

ESUT has not published an aggregate formula, and with no test there is no Post-UTME score to combine. What you can work out is the distance between your UTME score, the 240 minimum and a safe target.

Take Amarachi, who scored 262 and has A1, B2, B2, B3 and B3 in English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology from one sitting.

  1. Eligibility: 262 minus 240 = 22. She clears the Nursing minimum by 22 marks.
  2. Against my safe target: 270 minus 262 = 8. She is 8 marks below the score I would call competitive.
  3. O’level check: five credits in the right subjects, one sitting, uploaded to CAPS. Nothing rules her out.
  4. What I would advise: keep Nursing as her course, and if ESUT sends a Transfer Approval to a related course on CAPS, weigh it rather than ignore it.

Chukwudi scored 245 with C4 and C5 in two sciences. 245 minus 240 = 5. He could apply, but with 120 places and many applicants in the 260s and above, Nursing is unlikely for him this year.

Blogs sometimes print a 50:50 or 60:40 formula for ESUT. That is a method some Nigerian universities use, and ESUT has not published one; the advert’s no-test screening contradicts claims of a 60% Post-UTME weight.

How to apply for Nursing at ESUT, step by step

  1. Get your profile code: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the line linked to your NIN.
  2. Register the UTME: choose Nursing Science with English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology, and make ESUT your first choice. If you did not, do a JAMB change of institution before ESUT’s screening opens.
  3. Upload your O’level to CAPS: ESUT requires it from every candidate.
  4. Open the screening form: at portal.esut.edu.ng, select 2026/2027, go to Regular Students and open “2026/2027 Admission Screening Registration”. Enter your JAMB number and fill the form to generate an invoice.
  5. Pay ₦2,000: at a bank through Enugu State IGR Pay Direct with the invoice reference, or online by debit card.
  6. Complete and print: return to the portal, re-enter your JAMB number, finish the form, confirm, submit and print the acknowledgement slip.
  7. Accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, choose Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS and Admission Status. JAMB allows four weeks to accept.
  8. Pay acceptance and clear: blogs put ESUT’s acceptance fee at about ₦26,000 (₦26,100 in some reports). ESUT has not published it in any source I reached, so confirm on the portal before paying.

Warning

With only about 120 Nursing places, ESUT Nursing attracts people who promise “slots” for money. ESUT’s screening had no test, and every genuine offer shows on JAMB CAPS. Pay only through the ESUT portal invoice.

Myschool reported on 13 October 2026 that ESUT had uploaded its 2026/2027 provisional admission list to JAMB CAPS, and JAMB set 31 October 2026 for public universities to finish admissions. If you applied for Nursing, check CAPS now. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status.

Studying Nursing Science at ESUT

Nursing Sciences is in the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences under ESUT’s College of Medicine. ESUT’s main campus is at Agbani; the medical and health programmes are linked to the College of Medicine and ESUT Teaching Hospital, Parklane, Enugu. The degree is the Bachelor of Nursing Science (B.N.Sc.), which normally runs for five years in Nigeria.

Accreditation and the first graduates

ESUT’s Nursing story matters if you are weighing it against older programmes. According to the Enugu State Government:

  • The College of Medicine was established in 2006, but the Nursing department only formally started in 2018, and its first students began without accreditation.
  • In early July 2025, ESUT inducted its 70 pioneer Nursing graduates, with the NMCN Registrar, Alhaji Alhassan Ndagi, conducting the induction and oath.
  • Dr Jaye said the programme was brought up to NUC and NMCN standards, and that the regulators accredited it and indexed the backlog of students.
  • In June 2024, the state reported that the NMCN had approved an internship programme at ESUT Teaching Hospital, Parklane, starting with 50 interns.

The government reports do not give a formal accreditation grade, so I can’t tell you whether it is full or interim. What they do show is that ESUT Nursing graduates are now being inducted by the NMCN, the step that lets them practise.

What you study

  • Early years: basic sciences, then anatomy, physiology, biochemistry and the foundations of nursing.
  • Clinical years: medical-surgical nursing, maternal and child health, community health nursing, mental health nursing, with supervised ward placements.
  • Licensing: NMCN professional examinations and induction, then internship.
  • Careers: hospital nursing, public health, nursing education and research, and specialist training such as midwifery, critical care or anaesthetic nursing.

For UTME revision, start with our JAMB Biology syllabus and JAMB Chemistry syllabus.

Mistakes that cost Nursing applicants an ESUT place

  • Treating 240 as an admission score: it is the minimum to apply.
  • No Physics: JAMB’s usual Nursing combination includes it.
  • O’level not on CAPS: compulsory in ESUT’s advert.
  • Awaiting results released late: anything released after 30 September 2026 was refused.
  • Names that don’t match: the advert warns about this.
  • Accepting on CAPS and doing nothing else: the acceptance fee and clearance at ESUT are separate.

If you are trying again in 2027, read when JAMB 2027 registration starts and JAMB change of institution.

ESUT cut off mark for Nursing: frequently asked questions

Is 230 enough for Nursing in ESUT? No. ESUT’s minimum for Nursing in 2026/2027 is 240, so 230 does not qualify you to apply for the course.

Is 250 a good score for Nursing in ESUT? 250 clears the 240 minimum, but with about 120 places it is unlikely to be enough on merit. I would aim for 270 to 290.

Does ESUT write Post-UTME for Nursing? No. The 2026/2027 screening was online only, with no aptitude test or physical screening.

Is ESUT Nursing accredited? The Enugu State Government reported in July 2025 that the programme met NUC and NMCN standards and that the NMCN inducted ESUT’s 70 pioneer Nursing graduates. The accreditation grade has not been published.
