UNN Cut-Off Mark for Physiology 2027/2028: Admission Requirements and Aggregate Breakdown

UNN Cut-Off Mark for Physiology 2027/2028: Admission Requirements and Aggregate Breakdown
UNN needs 160 to apply for screening in 2026/2027 and has no official Physiology cut-off. See a safe target score, UTME and O’level requirements, a full aggregate breakdown and CAPS steps.

The UNN cut off mark for Physiology (often searched as Medical Physiology) for 2026/2027 has not been published as a departmental figure. What UNN did publish is a general minimum of 160 in the 2026 UTME, with UNN as your first choice, to register for screening. UNN’s minimum was reported as 200 at JAMB’s May 2026 policy meeting. Physiology sits in the College of Medicine and shares candidates with Medicine, so the score that gets in is higher than either number.

2027/2028 update: UNN cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.

Here you will find the official figures, a safe target score (labelled as my advice), the UTME and O’level requirements, a full breakdown of how an estimated aggregate is worked out, the CAPS steps, and what the course leads to.

UNN accepts screening applications from 160, but UNN’s declared institutional benchmark at the 2026 JAMB policy meeting was 200, and competitive courses admit far above both. Physiology is in that group, though it is usually less crowded than Medicine or Nursing.

Medical Physiology, Physiology or Human Physiology?

You will see three names. JAMB’s brochure has entries for Physiology and Human Physiology, and many students say Medical Physiology. The UNN College of Medicine online platform lists a Department of Human Physiology in its School of Basic Medical Sciences. When you register, choose the Physiology entry JAMB shows for UNN that year.

Safe target score for Physiology at UNN (my advice)

This is my advice, not a UNN rule. With no published numbers, I am going by where Physiology sits: inside the College of Medicine, with the same UTME subjects as Medicine, so many applicants are strong science candidates.

Your 2026 UTME scoreMy read for UNN Physiology
160 to 199You can be screened, but Physiology on merit is unlikely.
200 to 229Possible with strong O’level grades or catchment or ELDS help.
230 to 249Fair chance, especially with good science grades.
250 and aboveComfortable. This is the range I would aim for.

For 2027, I would aim for 250 or more in the UTME, plus B2 or better in Biology, Chemistry and Physics.

Merit, catchment and ELDS

Federal universities are widely reported to fill places under a national guideline of 45% merit, 35% catchment and 20% for educationally less developed states (ELDS). UNN has not published its own split for any course, so treat this as the national policy, not a UNN figure.

  • Merit: the top scorers in the course, whatever their state of origin. This is the list to aim for.
  • Catchment: UNN has not published a catchment list online. It is generally understood to be the South-East states; confirm on JAMB CAPS or with UNN admissions before you rely on it.
  • ELDS: a federal designation. UNN does not publish its own list, so don’t assume your state qualifies because a blog says so.
  • State of origin: the state on your JAMB profile is the one that counts, and UNN asks for an LGA identification letter to prove it.

For a course as crowded as Physiology, I would plan to win on merit. Catchment and ELDS places can lower the score that gets in for some candidates, but you can’t see the numbers in advance.

Admission requirements for Physiology at UNN

RequirementPhysiology at UNN
UTME subjectsUse of English, Physics, Chemistry, Biology
O’level subjectsFive credits: English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology
Number of sittingsNo UNN-specific Physiology remark in the brochure; UNN generally accepts up to two sittings for most courses. Confirm on your JAMB profile
Direct EntryTwo A’level passes chosen from Chemistry, Physics and Biology or Zoology
Minimum age16 by 30 September of the admission year (UNN 2026/2027 notice)

These come from the general part of the JAMB brochure entry for Physiology (Myschool reprint). That page lists special remarks for several universities but not for UNN, so the general rule applies unless JAMB’s current e-brochure says otherwise. Check before you register.

Mathematics is required at O’level, even though you do not write it in the UTME for this course.

UNN Physiology aggregate breakdown

First, the screening itself. These are the terms of UNN’s 2026/2027 screening notice of 13 July 2026.

DetailUNN 2026/2027 screening
Who could applyCandidates who chose UNN as first choice in the 2026 UTME and scored 160 or more; Direct Entry candidates who chose UNN first
Registration windowWednesday 15 July 2026 to midnight, Wednesday 5 August 2026 (closed)
Fees₦2,000 application plus ₦3,300 processing (₦5,300 in all), paid through Remita
O’level uploadOn JAMB CAPS and on the UNN portal by 5 August 2026
Results awaitingNot accepted. Candidates waiting for Nov/Dec 2026 GCE or NECO results were not eligible
AgeCandidates under 16 by 30 September 2026 were told not to apply
Written testNone described in the notice; it is an online screening registration
Documents uploadedBirth certificate, LGA identification, testimonial, First School Leaving Certificate, JAMB result slip, O’level result(s), each under 100KB

UNN has not published a formula for ranking candidates. Its 2026/2027 notice describes no written test, and the 2025/2026 advert notice mentioned a separate “Screening” score with a 160 threshold without saying how that score is built. So any aggregate you see online, including the one below, is an estimate.

The method most UNN guides use is 60% of your UTME score plus 40% of your O’level score, with four O’level subjects graded A1 = 100, B2 = 90, B3 = 80, C4 = 70, C5 = 60 and C6 = 50. This is a commonly cited blog method, not an official UNN formula. It is still useful, because it shows how much your O’level grades can move you up or down against someone with the same JAMB score.

Worked example for a Physiology candidate

Take Nnamdi, who scored 240 in the UTME and has B2, B2, B3 and C4 in four relevant O’level subjects.

  1. UTME part: 240 × 0.6 = 144.
  2. O’level points: 90 + 90 + 80 + 70 = 330.
  3. O’level part: 330 × 0.4 = 132.
  4. Estimated aggregate: 144 + 132 = 276 out of 400.

What moves the number

ChangeEffect on Nnamdi’s estimated aggregate
10 more UTME marks (250)+6, to 282
C4 improved to B2+8, to 284
Both B2 grades improved to A1+8, to 284
A C6 instead of C4minus 8, to 268

Each step of one grade (say B3 to B2) is worth 10 O’level points, which is 4 aggregate points, the same as about 7 UTME marks. A weak grade in one science can quietly cancel out a good JAMB score. UNN has not confirmed this method, so use the table to see where you are strong or weak, not to predict the cut-off.

How to apply for Physiology at UNN, step by step

  1. Get your JAMB profile code: text NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN (for example NIN 12345678901) to 55019 or 66019 from the phone number linked to your NIN. JAMB replies with the profile code you need to buy the UTME form.
  2. Register the UTME correctly: pick Use of English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology and make UNN your first choice. UNN’s 2026 screening was open only to first-choice candidates, so a second-choice UNN gets you nothing.
  3. Upload your O’level to CAPS: get your WAEC or NECO result onto your JAMB profile as soon as it is out. In 2026 UNN wanted it on JAMB CAPS and on its own portal by 5 August.
  4. Register for UNN screening: go to unn.edu.ng, click UNN Portal (top right), then Prospective Students and the screening form. Enter your JAMB registration number, generate the invoice and pay through Remita, then come back, re-enter the number and fill your personal and O’level details, including exam centre and exam numbers.
  5. Upload and submit: upload each document as a file under 100KB, review the form, confirm and print the acknowledgement slip. Check your date of birth before you submit, because UNN says it cannot be changed afterwards.
  6. Check and accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, choose Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS and Admission Status. Accept the offer once you have read the course name, then print your JAMB admission letter.
  7. Pay UNN’s acceptance fee and clear: blogs report the acceptance fee as ₦25,000, but UNN’s 2026/2027 notices I read do not state it. Confirm the amount on the UNN portal before paying, then follow the clearance instructions there.

Deadline

JAMB told public universities to finish 2026 admissions on or before 31 October 2026, and candidates have four weeks to accept an offer on CAPS. If UNN has offered you a place, accept it on CAPS now.

If CAPS shows a status you don’t understand, our JAMB CAPS guide explains each one, and the CAPS SMS guide covers what to do when the 55019 text fails. If you plan to sit the UTME again, start with when JAMB 2027 registration starts.

Studying Physiology at UNN

Physiology at UNN is taught in the School of Basic Medical Sciences of the College of Medicine on the Enugu campus, alongside Human Anatomy and Medical Biochemistry. In most Nigerian universities the B.Sc. in Physiology runs for four years for UTME entrants; check UNN’s handbook for the exact length.

  • Systems physiology: how the heart, lungs, kidneys, gut and nervous system work and how they are controlled.
  • Cell and membrane physiology: nerve signals, muscle contraction and transport across cells.
  • Endocrinology and reproduction: hormones and how they regulate the body.
  • Practical work: laboratory experiments, often with animal models, and measurement of human functions such as blood pressure and lung volumes.
  • Final-year project: usually an experimental study in one area of physiology.

Career paths after Physiology

  • Lecturing and research after a master’s or PhD.
  • Work in research institutes, pharmaceutical companies and clinical research.
  • Exercise and sports physiology, after further training.
  • Graduate entry into Medicine or related courses where universities accept graduates.

Mistakes Physiology applicants make

  • Picking the wrong course entry: check the exact Physiology name JAMB lists for UNN.
  • No Mathematics credit: it is required at O’level.
  • Assuming a high UTME makes up for weak grades: on the common method, one bad science grade costs as much as several JAMB marks.
  • Choosing UNN second: 2026 screening was for first-choice candidates.
  • Late CAPS acceptance: four weeks is the limit, and public universities close admission by 31 October 2026.

UNN cut off mark for Physiology: frequently asked questions

What is the cut off mark for Medical Physiology in UNN? UNN has not published one. The official minimum to apply for screening in 2026/2027 was 160 in the UTME, and I would aim for 250 or more to be safe.

Is Physiology in UNN the same as Medical Physiology? UNN’s College of Medicine lists the department as Human Physiology. Medical Physiology is the name many students use for the same B.Sc. course.

Does UNN write post-UTME for Physiology? UNN’s 2026/2027 notice describes an online screening with document uploads and gives no written test date.

Can I use awaiting result for UNN Physiology? No. UNN said candidates awaiting Nov/Dec GCE or NECO results were not eligible for the 2026/2027 screening.

Sources and updates

The 160 screening minimum, the 15 July to 5 August 2026 window, the ₦5,300 fees, the age, document and O’level upload rules and the portal steps come from the UNN Registrar’s notice 2026/2027 Screening Exercise for Admission, dated 13 July 2026 and signed by Dr (Mrs) C. N. Nnebedum. The 200 figure UNN declared at the JAMB 2026 policy meeting was reported by Vanguard on 11 May 2026. The national minimum of 150, the 31 October 2026 admission deadline and the four-week acceptance window come from the News Agency of Nigeria’s report of the same meeting (NAN, 11 May 2026). The 2025/2026 figure of 160 comes from reprints of UNN’s October 2025 advert notice. The Physiology UTME, O’level and Direct Entry requirements are the general entries in the JAMB brochure for Physiology as reprinted by Myschool (checked 29 October 2026); that page has no UNN-specific remark. The Department of Human Physiology is listed on the UNN College of Medicine online platform. No unofficial estimate for UNN Physiology was found. The 60/40 aggregate method and grade points are from Studentship (May 2025) and are not a UNN publication; the ₦25,000 acceptance fee is from O3schools and is unofficial. The 45/35/20 quota is the national federal guideline. This page was checked on 29 October 2026. UNN has not released a departmental cut-off list for 2026/2027; if it does, this page will be updated.
