UNIUYO History Education Cut-Off Mark 2027/2028 and Requirements

UNIUYO’s cut-off mark for History Education is 150 (first choice only). The course had spare places in 2023/2024 and holds full NUC accreditation. My safe target is 170.

The UNIUYO History Education cut-off mark is 150 in the UTME, the same figure the University of Uyo set for every course in its official 2026/2027 Post-UTME and Direct Entry screening notice. Only candidates who chose UNIUYO as their first choice could apply. UNIUYO does not publish a separate cut-off for History Education, and the score of the last person admitted is not released, so 150 gets you into screening and no further. My safe target score for History Education at UNIUYO is 170.

2027/2028 update: UNIUYO cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.

History Education trains history teachers, a subject that returned to Nigerian basic education in recent years after a long absence. At UNIUYO it is a B.A. (Ed) in the Department of Curriculum Studies, Educational Management and Planning, listed on JAMB as Education and History. Below are the official figures, my safe target, the subject rules with UNIUYO’s remark, screening, a worked example and the CAPS steps.

2025/2026150Minimum UTME to apply for screening, first choiceReported by a blog reprint (15 August 2025); original not seen
2023/2024 supplementary140Minimum to move into a course that still had places; Education and History was on the listOfficial UNIUYO supplementary notice (September 2023)

UNIUYO’s minimum has been 150 for two sessions. The useful extra clue is the 2023/2024 supplementary exercise, when UNIUYO invited candidates with 140 or more who had missed their first course to move into programmes with spare places. Education and History was on that list, so it still had room after the main round. That is why my target for this course is modest.

Safe target score for History Education at UNIUYO (my advice)

UNIUYO has not published a departmental figure for History Education, so the bands below are my own judgement as an admissions adviser. They are not a UNIUYO rule, and you should treat them as planning numbers.

Your UTME scoreMy read for UNIUYO History Education
Below 150Not eligible for UNIUYO screening
150 to 169Eligible. A place is realistic if your O’level grades are clean and the subjects fit
170 to 189Good chance. This is the range I would aim for
190 and aboveStrong

For the 2027 UTME I would aim for 170 or more. Education and History was on UNIUYO’s 2023/2024 supplementary list, so it had places after the main round. A score in the 170s with the right O’level credits is a realistic plan.

UTME subject combination and O’level for UNIUYO History Education

RequirementHistory Education at UNIUYO
UTME subjectsUse of English, History, plus two of CRS/IRS, Literature in English, French, Yoruba, Geography or Physics, Economics, Government and Hausa
O’level (JAMB general)Five credits including English Language, History and three relevant Arts subjects
O’level (UNIUYO remark)UNIUYO accepts History or Government, with English and any three Arts or Social Science subjects
O’level (UNIUYO department page)Credits including English, Mathematics and History
Direct EntryJAMB: two NCE merit or A-level passes in History and one other Arts subject. Department: two A-level passes or NCE merit in History and two other subjects (including Education), plus five O’level credits including English

JAMB’s brochure is the rulebook, and Myschool reprints it. The Education and History entry, read on 3 November 2026, needs History in the UTME. Government, Literature, CRS and Economics are the commonest choices for the other two.

UNIUYO’s brochure remark relaxes the O’level: it accepts a credit in History or Government, which helps candidates from schools that did not offer History. UNIUYO’s department page, though, lists English, Mathematics and History. To be safe, hold a Mathematics credit and, if you can, a History credit as well.

Direct Entry into History Education

JAMB’s DE line asks for two NCE merit or A-level passes in History and one other Arts subject. The department asks for two A-level passes in relevant subjects, or an NCE with merit in History and two other subjects including Education, backed by five O’level credits including English.

A note on timing for anyone also weighing a college of education. JAMB’s 2026 policy meeting exempted NCE candidates from the UTME (Nairametrics read it as starting with the 2027 cycle; JAMB’s own June 2026 NCE guide applied it in 2026), and colleges of education stopped admitting straight into degree programmes from 2026/2027. An NCE with merit remains a recognised Direct Entry route into UNIUYO’s Education degrees, so a three-year NCE followed by DE is a real alternative if your UTME score is low.

How UNIUYO screening works for History Education applicants

Every UTME and Direct Entry applicant goes through the same UNIUYO screening exercise, whatever the course. This is what the 2026/2027 round looked like.

Admission deadlineJAMB set 31 October 2026 for public universities; that date has now passedJAMB via NAN, 11 May 2026

Because UNIUYO is a public (federal) university, JAMB’s 31 October 2026 deadline for public universities applied to it, and that date has now passed. Supplementary or late admission lists can still show up on JAMB CAPS after the main window, so a 2026 candidate should keep checking CAPS rather than assume the year is over.

Worked example for a History Education candidate

UNIUYO has not published an aggregate formula or a Post-UTME score scale, so I can’t show you an official calculation. What you can measure is how far your UTME score sits above the 150 minimum and how close it is to a safe target. The names below are made up.

  1. Candidate: Utibe scored 174 with B3 in English, C5 in Mathematics, C4 in Government, B3 in Literature in English and C6 in CRS from one sitting, with History in his UTME.
  2. Eligibility: 174 minus 150 = 24. Utibe clears UNIUYO’s minimum by 24 marks and can apply.
  3. Against my safe target: 174 minus 170 = 4. Utibe is 4 marks above my safe target.
  4. O’level check: he has Government in place of History at O’level, which UNIUYO’s brochure remark accepts, and he has Mathematics.
  5. My advice: he is above my target. Keep History Education first and check CAPS often.

Mercy scored 166 without History in her UTME. 166 minus 150 = 16, but History is compulsory in the JAMB line, so she would need a change of course to something like Social Studies Education.

Admission odds and advice for UNIUYO History Education

History Education is a realistic course at UNIUYO for a candidate scoring in the 160s and 170s, on the 2023/2024 supplementary evidence.

History has been brought back as a separate subject in Nigerian basic schools in recent years, after years folded into Social Studies, and many schools still lack trained history teachers. That gives graduates a clearer teaching path than they had a decade ago.

If you want history without teaching, UNIUYO’s B.A. History and International Studies in the Faculty of Arts is the related course.

There is one more route worth knowing. UNIUYO’s 2026/2027 Basic Studies programme ran for one year, needed no JAMB score, cost ₦15,500 to apply, and used a CBT screening test. Candidates who passed could enter 200 level through JAMB Direct Entry if they met the course rules. The 2026/2027 registration closed on 30 September 2026, but the advert is the clearest picture of how the next round will work. Read it at uniuyo.edu.ng.

How to apply for History Education at UNIUYO, step by step

  1. Get your JAMB profile code: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN.
  2. Register the UTME correctly: choose Education and History with English, History and two other subjects from JAMB’s list, and put UNIUYO as your first choice. UNIUYO’s screening notice was limited to first-choice candidates. If you got this wrong, do a JAMB change of institution before screening opens.
  3. Upload your O’level to CAPS: do it at a JAMB office or accredited centre so the results show on CAPS. Admission cannot be offered without them.
  4. Register for screening: go to admissions.uniuyo.edu.ng, create and verify an account, generate a Remita RRR and pay ₦2,000.
  5. Complete the form: fill in your details, upload the documents as PDF files, and print your Screening Exercise Slip.
  6. Watch CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, choose Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS. If UNIUYO offers you a place, accept it there. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status.
  7. Pay acceptance and clear: UNIUYO has not published its acceptance fee in any official source I reached. Pay only on the UNIUYO portal and keep every receipt for clearance.

Studying History Education at UNIUYO

The department page lists a B.A. (Ed) History in the Faculty of Education. UTME entrants normally spend four years and NCE holders usually three; UNIUYO has not confirmed durations in the sources I read.

Accreditation

The NUC’s published accreditation report for UNIUYO’s History Education programme gives it Full status with a score of 85.09%, after a visit in late 2024 (NUC report). That is the NUC’s top grade.

Mistakes that cost History Education applicants a UNIUYO place

  • No History in the UTME: the JAMB line requires it.
  • No Mathematics credit: UNIUYO’s department page lists it.
  • Putting UNIUYO second: the 2026/2027 screening notice only admitted first-choice candidates to the exercise.
  • Reading 150 as an admission score: it is the minimum to apply. Merit decides who gets in.
  • Leaving O’level off CAPS: an offer can’t be made until your results are there.
  • Paying agents for “slots”: genuine UNIUYO offers appear on JAMB CAPS, and payments go through the portal’s Remita RRR.

If you are planning for the 2027 UTME, read when JAMB 2027 registration starts, and after the exam use our guide on how to check your JAMB result.

UNIUYO History Education cut-off mark: frequently asked questions
