Stevens Institute of Technology Admission Requirements for International Students 2027: Acceptance Rate, Tuition, Scholarships and Deadlines

Stevens Institute of Technology Admission Requirements for International Students 2027: Acceptance Rate, Tuition, Scholarships and Deadlines
Stevens Institute of Technology admitted 27% of international applicants in fall 2023. Here are its English minimums, test-optional policy, the $91,294 cost for 2026-27, merit scholarships that need the CSS Profile, and the fall 2027 deadlines.

Stevens Institute of Technology admission requirements for international students are among the easier ones to meet on paper: the Common App or Coalition application, a transcript (with a certified English translation if needed), two recommendations, a $75 fee and an English score of at least TOEFL 80 (4 on the new scale), IELTS 6.0 or Duolingo 105. The SAT and ACT are optional through fall 2029 for most majors. The competition is in the numbers: Stevens admitted 43% of all applicants and only 27% of international applicants in its most recent Common Data Set I could read (fall 2023).

Costs are high. The 2026-27 on-campus cost of attendance is $91,294, and Stevens offers international students a limited number of merit scholarships rather than need-based aid. For fall 2027, Early Decision I closes on 15 November 2026, Early Action on 1 December 2026, and Early Decision II and Regular Decision on 5 January 2027. Everything here was checked on Stevens’ own pages on 29 October 2026.

Stevens ranking and key numbers

Stevens made one of the biggest jumps in the U.S. News 2027 Best Colleges edition, released in September 2026.

Stevens acceptance rate and class profile

Stevens has posted a 2025-26 Common Data Set, but I could not open it, so the figures below come from the 2023-24 Common Data Set (students who entered in fall 2023). They are the latest official numbers I could verify.

GroupAppliedAdmittedEnrolledAdmit rate
All first-year applicants14,1706,1561,02443.4%
International applicants1,5484244627.4%
Early Decision785435Not given55.4%

About 40% of enrolled students sent SAT scores, and their middle range was 1380 to 1485. Among the 8% who sent the ACT, the range was 31 to 34. Those are high scores for a test-optional school, which tells you the academic level of the class. Early Decision applicants were admitted at a higher rate than the pool overall.

Stevens tuition for international students (2026-27)

There is one tuition rate for all undergraduates. Stevens’ 2026-2027 cost of attendance for a full-time student living on campus:

Item2026-27
Tuition and fees$68,230
Housing and meals$20,744
Books and supplies$1,200
Miscellaneous$1,050
Loan fees (only if offered federal loans)$70
Total on campus$91,294

International students cannot use US federal loans, so your real figure is $91,224 plus flights and health insurance. Over four years that is above $360,000 before any scholarship, which is why the aid question matters so much at Stevens.

Stevens scholarships for international students

Stevens says it awards a limited number of merit scholarships to international students. To be considered, you must file the CSS Profile and list Stevens (code 2819). Stevens does not describe any need-based institutional grant for international undergraduates on its international or cost pages.

Stevens’ merit awards range from $2,000 to full tuition, cannot exceed tuition, and most are awarded automatically at admission. The scholarships page does not say which of them international students can receive, so confirm with the Office of Financial Aid.

In 2023-24, Stevens gave institutional aid to 88 non-resident undergraduates, averaging $18,858 each. That gives a realistic picture: some international students get help, but the typical award covers less than a third of tuition.

Before you apply

File the CSS Profile with code 2819 by your plan’s deadline. Without it you will not be considered for the limited international merit awards, even though merit is usually automatic for US students.

Stevens admission requirements for international students

  1. Application: the Common App or the Coalition Application, including the personal essay.
  2. Fee: $75.
  3. Transcript: official high school transcript sent by your school, with a certified English translation if it is in another language. First-year applicants do not need a credential evaluation.
  4. Two recommendations: ideally one teacher and one counselor, sent by them. Stevens will not accept letters uploaded by students.
  5. English test: TOEFL, IELTS, Duolingo or SAT Evidence-Based Reading and Writing.
  6. Interview: strongly recommended for international applicants, in person, by phone or on Zoom. An InitialView interview also counts if it arrives at least a week before your deadline.
  7. Financial documents: a recent bank statement, or Stevens’ Financial Verification Form plus a bank statement for each sponsor. Stevens strongly recommends sending them with the application.
  8. CSS Profile: needed for merit consideration as an international student.
  9. Portfolio: strongly encouraged for music and visual arts and technology applicants.

Testing policy

Stevens has extended its test-optional policy to first-year and transfer applicants for entry through fall 2029. You say on the application whether you will send scores, and Stevens superscores. There are exceptions. Accelerated Pre-Medicine and Pre-Law applicants must send SAT or ACT scores; Pre-Medicine needs at least 1400 on the SAT or 32 on the ACT in one sitting, completed before its 1 November deadline. From fall 2027, Pinnacle Scholars Program applicants must send SAT, ACT and/or AP scores. Codes: SAT 2819, ACT 2610.

English requirements

TestStevens minimum
TOEFL iBT (old scale)80
TOEFL iBT (new scale)4
IELTS Academic6.0 overall
Duolingo English Test105
SAT Evidence-Based Reading and Writing550

Stevens grants waivers case by case, only to applicants who studied in the US for at least three years. Request it after you submit. Unlike some universities, Stevens does not list an automatic waiver for citizens of English-speaking countries, so applicants from places such as Nigeria or Ghana should plan to take a test or submit an SAT EBRW of 550 or more.

Stevens’ timeline page gives no year, so the years above follow the fall 2027 cycle. Early Action admits who deposit by 5 March get priority for housing and course registration. Early Action is the natural choice if you need a scholarship: it is not binding and you hear by 1 February.

How to write a strong Stevens application

Stevens’ first-year page does not list a Stevens-specific supplemental essay, so the Common App personal statement and the interview carry your voice. Stevens’ scholarship criteria mention innovation, creativity, leadership and community service, which tells you what readers look for.

  • Write about something you designed, built or improved, and be exact about your part.
  • Show what changed because of it: a number, a user, a fix that held.
  • Take the interview. For an international applicant it is a chance to explain your school system and show your English.
  • If you want the Global Impact Scholarship, make your community service visible in the activities list and the essay.

A short sample opening, for illustration only:

“The water pump at our school broke every rainy season, and every rainy season someone carried buckets up three flights of stairs. In my final year I stopped carrying buckets and started taking the pump apart.”

What happens after you apply

  1. Portal: Stevens sends a student portal login; upload financial documents and self-reported scores there.
  2. Interview: book it early if you have not already done InitialView.
  3. Decision and merit: decisions come by the dates above, and most merit awards come with the admission letter.
  4. Deposit: ED admits must deposit by 10 January or 1 March and withdraw other applications.
  5. I-20: Stevens issues it once your financial documents show you can cover the cost.
  6. Visa and arrival: pay the SEVIS fee, attend the F-1 interview and arrive for orientation.

Common mistakes international applicants make

  • Skipping the CSS Profile. International merit consideration depends on it.
  • Assuming Early Decision brings better aid. ED is binding and Stevens has no need-based promise for internationals.
  • Assuming an English-medium school waives the test. Stevens’ only listed waiver is three years of US study.
  • Sending the SAT for Pre-Medicine after 1 November. The 1400 or 32 must be achieved before that deadline.
  • Leaving financial documents until after admission, which delays the I-20.

Costs Stevens scholarships will not cover

  • Housing and meals ($20,744), because merit awards cannot exceed tuition.
  • Books, supplies and personal costs (about $2,250 in Stevens’ budget).
  • Flights, F-1 visa and SEVIS fees.
  • Health insurance, which is not itemised in the cost table.
  • The higher cost of living near New York City if you move off campus later.

Stevens graduate admissions for international students

Graduate students apply through Stevens’ graduate admissions office. The minimum English scores are TOEFL iBT 4 (new scale), IELTS 6 or Duolingo 110. Students who score below TOEFL 4.5, IELTS 7 or Duolingo 120 may have to take English Language Center courses in their first term. Scores must be less than two years old, and Stevens will not accept updated scores after admission. Full-time graduate tuition and fees for 2026-27 are $47,826, and the off-campus cost of attendance is $71,176; new graduate students cannot live on campus. Teaching and research assistantships go to select doctoral students.

Majors and campus life at Stevens

Stevens is strongest in engineering, computer science, cybersecurity, quantitative finance and business with a technical edge. It has 35 undergraduate majors. The Pinnacle Scholars Program and the accelerated pre-medicine and pre-law tracks are its most selective options.

The campus sits in Hoboken, New Jersey, on the Hudson River facing Manhattan. Students reach New York by ferry, train or PATH, which helps with internships in finance and tech, but rents in the area are high.

Who should apply to Stevens

Stevens suits strong maths and science students who want engineering, computing or finance next to New York City and whose families can pay most of the bill. The English minimums are lower than at many peers, which helps students with good grades but modest test scores. If you need most of the cost covered, apply to Stevens alongside full-need colleges such as Yale and Amherst, and look at outside funding in our US scholarship deadlines list.
