Spiritan University Biochemistry Cut-Off Mark 2027/2028 and Admission Requirements

Spiritan University, Nneochi asks Biochemistry candidates for at least the national cut-off of 150. See the safe target score, UTME combination, the five O’level credits, Direct Entry, screening, CAPS steps and accreditation.

The Spiritan University Biochemistry cut off mark 2027 candidates should plan with is 150 in the UTME. Spiritan University, Nneochi (SUN) has not published a course figure for Biochemistry. Its admissions page asks for at least the national cut-off, and JAMB’s minimum for universities is 150 for the 2026/2027 session. In 2024/2025 SUN asked for 140.

2027/2028 update: SUN cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.

Biochemistry is one of the ten SUN programmes the NUC visited at its first accreditation in January 2022. Its O’level line has no free subject: credits in all five of English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology. Below are the official figures, a safe target score (my advice), the subjects, Direct Entry, screening, the CAPS steps and what the degree leads to.

Spiritan University, Nneochi (SUN) is a private Catholic university owned by the Congregation of the Holy Spirit (the Spiritans). Its campus is on the Ajali-Ihube-Lomara Road at Nneato-Isuochi in Umunneochi Local Government Area of Abia State, and it was licensed on 6 December 2017. Its admissions page now carries the headline “2026/2027 Admission in Progress”.

The figure has followed the national floor: 140 in 2024/2025, and the national 150 since. One line on SUN’s admissions page still names the 2025/2026 UTME under a 2026/2027 headline, which looks like carried-over wording; for 2026/2027 the minimum is 150. SUN does not appear in News Central’s full list of cut-offs that institutions declared at JAMB’s 2026 policy meeting.

Safe target score for Biochemistry at SUN (my advice)

These bands are my advice, not a SUN rule. Biochemistry attracts many candidates who wanted Medicine or Pharmacy, so it tends to be the busiest science course at a small university. SUN has never published applicant numbers.

Your UTME scoreMy read for SUN Biochemistry
Below 150Not eligible for any SUN degree course this cycle
150 to 164Eligible; a place depends on complete credits and applying early
165 to 184Good chance
185 and aboveStrong

For the 2027 UTME I would aim for 170 or more, a little higher than for SUN’s other sciences because of the extra demand.

Spiritan remark in the brochureNone. The brochure entry has no remark that names SUNMyschool reprint, checked 29 October 2026

Register Use of English, Biology, Chemistry and Physics. The brochure allows Mathematics in place of Physics, but your O’level must include Physics anyway, and the Physics combination keeps Microbiology, Biology and Chemistry open as fallbacks. Revise with the JAMB Biology syllabus and JAMB Chemistry syllabus.

The O’level list is fixed: credits in English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology. There is no free fifth subject, so a pass in Physics is enough to rule you out. SUN accepts WASC, SSCE and NECO results in not more than two sittings.

Direct Entry into Biochemistry at SUN

JAMB’s brochure accepts two A-level passes from Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics and Biology. It also lists NCE, ND or HND holders in related programmes, but adds “plus the UTME requirements”, which I read as also meeting the O’level credits above. SUN’s admissions page does not mention Direct Entry, so ask the admissions office in writing whether it takes Direct Entry candidates for Biochemistry and at which level.

Holders of an ND in Science Laboratory Technology (Biochemistry option) are the most common Direct Entry applicants for this course in Nigeria. Bring your transcript when you ask.

How Spiritan University admits Biochemistry candidates

SUN’s admissions page tells candidates to make Spiritan University their choice on the JAMB form, and it adds that candidates who did not do so can still apply. You apply either through the online form linked from that page or with a paper form. The page lists 13 places where paper forms are available, including the campus, several Catholic parishes, and Spiritan institutions in Enugu, Anambra, Imo, Rivers, Abuja, Lagos, Edo and Delta.

The page does not describe a post-UTME test, a screening date or a form price, and none of the SUN pages I checked on 29 October 2026 gives an aggregate formula. A 2022 blog said SUN screened candidates after the UTME. So treat a short test or an interview as possible, and call the admissions lines before you travel.

If SUN was not on your JAMB registration, your offer still has to come through CAPS, so you will need a JAMB change of institution to Spiritan University before admission closes. For the 2026/2027 cycle, JAMB set 30 November 2026 as the admission deadline for private universities such as SUN.

Documents to have ready

SUN’s 2021/2022 notice, reprinted by Myschool, asked screening candidates for these. Bring them unless the current notice says otherwise:

  • Your original JAMB result slip with your photograph
  • Proof of your JAMB subject combination for Biochemistry
  • Your O’level result (WAEC, NECO or NABTEB), with the scratch card or online printout if you have it
  • Your printout of the change of institution, if SUN was not your original choice

Worked example (illustrative only)

SUN publishes no aggregate formula. The example checks each candidate against the rules and my target, and uses the 50:50 method common at other universities (UTME divided by 8, plus half the test percentage) only as an illustration.

  1. Chidera: UTME 178 in English, Biology, Chemistry and Physics, with credits in all five required subjects in one sitting. She is above my target.
  2. Uzoma: UTME 189, but Physics is D7. He fails the O’level line, which names Physics. His score does not help until he fixes it in a second sitting.
  3. Nneka: UTME 160. If a test is set and she scores 66%, her illustrative aggregate is 160 divided by 8 (20) plus 33, which is 53.

Uzoma’s situation is common among candidates who sat WAEC for Medicine and never took Physics seriously. Biochemistry needs it at credit level.

How to apply for Biochemistry at Spiritan University, step by step

  1. Get your JAMB profile code: text NIN, a space, then your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone number linked to your NIN.
  2. Register for the UTME: choose Spiritan University and “Biochemistry”, with Use of English, Biology, Chemistry and Physics. If you already registered elsewhere, do a JAMB change of institution to SUN.
  3. Upload your O’level to CAPS: go to a JAMB office or accredited CBT centre with your WAEC, NECO or NABTEB details. SUN cannot offer you admission until your result is on CAPS.
  4. Apply to SUN: fill the online form linked on the SUN admissions page, or collect a paper form on campus or at one of the listed parishes and Spiritan institutions.
  5. Confirm screening: call the admissions lines on the SUN website (for example 0703 986 5805 or 0803 667 3144) and ask whether Biochemistry candidates write a test or attend an interview, and when.
  6. Accept on CAPS: log in to efacility.jamb.gov.ng, choose Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS. In 2026 JAMB gave candidates four weeks to accept an offer. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status.
  7. Pay acceptance and clear: SUN has not published its current acceptance fee. A 2022 blog put it at N20,000, non-refundable, but treat that as old. Pay only through channels the university gives you in writing, then bring your originals for clearance.

Warning

JAMB treats any admission that does not pass through CAPS as illegal. Ignore anyone who offers a guaranteed place at SUN for a fee, pay nothing until you see the offer on your CAPS page, and get payment details only from the university’s official website or admissions office.

Studying Biochemistry at Spiritan University

Biochemistry studies the chemistry of living things: how cells build and break down proteins, carbohydrates, fats and nucleic acids, how enzymes work and what goes wrong in disease. At SUN it is a B.Sc. in the Faculty of Natural and Applied Sciences. A B.Sc. normally takes four years, or three through Direct Entry.

Is Biochemistry at SUN accredited?

Biochemistry was one of the ten programmes SUN presented for its first NUC accreditation. According to SUN’s own news post, ten NUC panels visited from 19 to 29 January 2022, in what the commission called its October/November 2021 edition. The other nine were Accounting, Banking and Finance, Business Administration, Economics, Political Science, English, Computer Science, Microbiology and Physics.

Myschool reported on 9 May 2022 that seven of the ten earned full accreditation and three got interim status, but neither Myschool nor SUN said which three. The NUC’s consolidated accreditation results, published in September 2026, should show the current status, but I could not read SUN’s section of that document. So the current status of this programme is not confirmed. Before you accept an offer, ask the department for its NUC accreditation letter and the year it expires.

What you will study

SUN has not published its Biochemistry outline. Nigerian B.Sc. Biochemistry programmes usually include:

  • Chemistry of biomolecules: proteins, carbohydrates, lipids and nucleic acids
  • Enzymology and metabolism
  • Molecular biology and genetics
  • Nutritional, clinical and pharmacological biochemistry
  • Analytical and laboratory techniques, biostatistics and a final-year project

Careers

Graduates work in quality control for food, beverage, brewing and pharmaceutical companies, in research and teaching laboratories, in medical sales, and in public health and environmental agencies. Many take a master’s in biochemistry, pharmacology, nutrition or molecular biology.

A biochemistry degree is not a medical laboratory science licence. Hospital laboratory scientists are trained on a separate degree and licensed by the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria, so if hospital lab work is your aim, check that route separately.

Mistakes Biochemistry applicants make

  • Missing a Physics credit: the O’level line names it.
  • Assuming the 150 floor is enough because it is a private university: Biochemistry draws more applicants than SUN’s other sciences.
  • Using three sittings: SUN accepts not more than two.
  • Treating Biochemistry as a guaranteed transfer route into Medicine: SUN has not published any such route.
  • Not asking for the accreditation letter: the 2022 result did not say which programmes were interim.
