The MOUAU cut off mark for Library and Information Science is 150 in the UTME, with Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike (MOUAU) as your first choice. MOUAU set that one minimum for all its courses in the 2026/2027 screening notice and published no separate figure for Library and Information Science.
2027/2028 update: MOUAU cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.
With 150 you can register for screening; admission then depends on how you rank. Below are the official figures, a safe target score (my advice), MOUAU’s own rule on which JAMB subjects it accepts for this course (it leaves out Arts subjects), the O’level and Direct Entry rules, how screening works, a worked example and the CAPS steps.
MOUAU cut off mark for Library and Information Science at a glance
| Item | 2026/2027 position | Status |

| MOUAU minimum UTME score to apply (Library and Information Science included) | 150, with MOUAU as first choice | MOUAU screening notice signed by the Registrar, as reprinted by Myschool (20 June 2026) |
| JAMB national minimum for universities | 150 | JAMB 2026 policy meeting (11 May 2026) |
| Departmental merit cut-off for Library and Information Science | Not published | MOUAU released no per-course figures |
| Screening fee | ₦2,000 through Remita | Notice reprint |

MOUAU Library and Information Science cut-off history
| Session | Figure | What it is | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2026/2027 | 150 | Minimum UTME score for all MOUAU courses, MOUAU first choice | MOUAU notice (Myschool reprint, 20 June 2026) |
| 2026 (national) | 150 | JAMB minimum for all universities | Official, JAMB policy meeting (11 May 2026) |
| 2025/2026 | Not confirmed | Blogs say 150; the earlier Myschool page now redirects to the 2026 article | Unverified |
| Departmental figure for Library and Information Science | None | Blog “departmental cut-off” tables cite no MOUAU document | Unofficial |
Library and Information Science is not among the courses blogs usually rank as competitive at MOUAU, and the only official figure is the university-wide 150. Some blog tables still print a “departmental” number for it without naming a MOUAU source, so I have left those out.
Safe target score for Library and Information Science at MOUAU (my advice)
MOUAU does not publish the score of the last candidate admitted into each course, so this table is my judgement as an admissions adviser. It is not a MOUAU rule.
| Your UTME score | My read for MOUAU Library and Information Science |
|---|---|
| Below 150 | Not eligible for any MOUAU course |
| 150 to 164 | Eligible to register; admission depends on O’level grades and sittings |
| 165 to 184 | Reasonable chance with clean credits from one sitting |
| 185 and above | Strong. This is the range I would aim for. |
For the 2027 UTME I would aim for at least 175, with credits in English, Mathematics and three subjects that match your UTME choices, ideally from one sitting. Many Library and Information Science students at Nigerian universities arrive through a change of course, so a slightly higher score also protects you if MOUAU offers you a different education course on CAPS.
Catchment and merit
MOUAU is a federal university, so its admissions follow the federal guidelines that mix merit, catchment and educationally less developed states. MOUAU has not published its own split or a list of catchment states for 2026/2027. Do not count on catchment to rescue a weak score; your UTME result and your O’level grades from one sitting are the parts you control.
UTME subject combination and O’level for MOUAU Library and Information Science
| Requirement | Library and Information Science at MOUAU |
|---|---|
| UTME subjects (general entry) | Use of English plus any three subjects |
| UTME subjects (MOUAU remark) | Use of English plus any three from the Social Sciences, Business and Sciences |
| O’level (general entry) | Five credits including English Language and Mathematics, plus three other relevant Arts, Science or Social Science subjects |
| MOUAU O’level remark | None found on the entry; follow the general line |
| Exams accepted | WAEC, NECO, NABTEB |
| Sittings | MOUAU weights the number of sittings, so one sitting is safer |
| Awaiting results | Register for MOUAU screening only after your result is out |
Most universities on the JAMB entry for Library and Information Science accept any three subjects. MOUAU’s remark narrows that to subjects from the Social Sciences, Business and Sciences. Economics, Government, Geography, Commerce, Accounting, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Agricultural Science all fit those groups. Literature in English, CRS, IRS, History and Nigerian languages are usually classed as Arts subjects, so an all-Arts combination such as Literature, CRS and Government is a risk at MOUAU even though other universities would take it.
If your strengths are in Arts, keep one or two Arts subjects out of the UTME and pick Economics, Government or Commerce instead. Check the exact remark on your JAMB e-brochure page before you register, since JAMB updates the brochure.
Direct Entry
The general entry accepts two A-level passes in relevant subjects (with the UTME O’level requirements) or an NCE at merit level in relevant subjects. Other universities on the same entry add routes for diplomas in library science, but MOUAU’s remarks do not mention one, and MOUAU’s 2026/2027 notice published no separate Direct Entry procedure. If you hold a diploma or ND in Library and Information Science, ask the department whether it is accepted before you buy the JAMB Direct Entry form.
Does the 2026 NCE exemption apply to this course?
No. At its policy meeting of 11 May 2026, JAMB exempted NCE programmes at colleges of education from the UTME. Nairametrics reported that the change starts with the 2027 admission cycle, while JAMB’s own NCE registration guide (June 2026) shows it already running in 2026. Either way it covers the NCE only. A degree in education at a university such as MOUAU still needs the UTME, MOUAU as first choice and the 150 minimum. The same JAMB guide also says colleges of education stop taking 100-level or 200-level degree students from 2026/2027, so candidates who wanted an affiliated degree at a college now have to look at universities like MOUAU or start with an NCE.
How MOUAU screening works for Library and Information Science
MOUAU’s 2026/2027 screening notice, signed by the Registrar, Dr (Mrs) Nkeiruka Charity Mbanasor, was reprinted by Myschool on 20 June 2026. I could not open the original on mouau.edu.ng, so treat these details as a faithful reprint and not the source document.
| Detail | MOUAU 2026/2027 screening |
|---|---|
| Who could apply | Candidates with 150 or more in the 2026 UTME and MOUAU as first choice; others could first change to MOUAU on the JAMB portal |
| Registration opened | 6 June 2026, online through mouau.edu.ng |
| Portal | portal.mouau.edu.ng (payment problems: portal@mouau.edu.ng) |
| Fee | ₦2,000 through Remita, by card or cash at any bank |
| O’level | WAEC, NECO or NABTEB results uploaded so they reach JAMB CAPS |
| Awaiting results | Candidates still waiting for 2026 results were told not to register until the results were out |
| How candidates are ranked | UTME score, with O’level grades and the number of sittings both weighted |
| Closing date and test date | Not stated in the reprint |
Nothing in the notice says MOUAU set a written Post-UTME test for 2026/2027, so I won’t tell you one was held. After you register, check the portal regularly; MOUAU said screening results and admission status would appear there.
Worked example for a Library and Information Science candidate
MOUAU has not published an aggregate formula. To show how UTME and O’level interact, here is an illustrative method many Nigerian universities use: UTME score divided by 8 (up to 50 points), plus O’level points for five relevant subjects with A1 = 10, B2 = 9, B3 = 8, C4 = 7, C5 = 6 and C6 = 5 (up to 50 points). This is my example, not MOUAU’s formula.
- Adaeze scored 178 with B3 in English, C4 in Mathematics, B2 in Economics, B3 in Government and C4 in Commerce from one sitting. UTME points: 178 ÷ 8 = 22.25. O’level points: 8 + 7 + 9 + 8 + 7 = 39. Illustrative total: 61.25.
- Emeka scored 192 with C5 in English, C6 in Mathematics, C4 in Literature, C5 in CRS and C5 in Government over two sittings. UTME points: 192 ÷ 8 = 24. O’level points: 6 + 5 + 7 + 6 + 6 = 30. Illustrative total: 54.
- The gap: 61.25 minus 54 = 7.25 points in Adaeze’s favour. Emeka also faces a subject problem if he wrote Literature and CRS in the UTME, because MOUAU’s remark asks for Social Science, Business or Science subjects.
The lesson for this course is that the subject list matters as much as the score. Match your UTME subjects to MOUAU’s remark first, then work on the grades.
How to apply for Library and Information Science at MOUAU, step by step
- Get your JAMB profile code: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN.
- Register the UTME correctly: choose Library and Information Science at MOUAU with Use of English and three subjects from the Social Sciences, Business or Sciences (for example Economics, Government and Commerce, or Mathematics, Economics and Biology), and make MOUAU your first choice. If you already registered for another school, do a JAMB change of institution before MOUAU’s screening opens.
- Upload your O’level to CAPS: do it at an accredited JAMB CBT centre as soon as your result is out. MOUAU weights your grades and sittings, so upload your best single sitting.
- Register on the MOUAU portal: when screening opens, go to portal.mouau.edu.ng, fill in your details and generate the Remita invoice.
- Pay ₦2,000: by card or cash at any bank through Remita. Keep the RRR number and the receipt.
- Check the portal for results: MOUAU posts screening outcomes and admission status there; no test date was published for 2026/2027.
- Accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, choose Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS, and accept. JAMB gives four weeks to accept. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status.
- Pay acceptance and clear: MOUAU’s acceptance and school fees were not in any source I reached. Get the amount from your portal invoice and pay only through it.
Warning
Every genuine MOUAU offer appears on JAMB CAPS, and JAMB said in May 2026 that admissions outside CAPS are illegal. Anyone selling a MOUAU “slot” is selling something that does not exist, so pay only through the MOUAU portal invoice.
For 2026/2027, JAMB set 31 October 2026 as the date public universities should finish admissions. If you applied, look at CAPS now instead of waiting for a printed list.
Studying Library and Information Science at MOUAU
Library and Information Science is one of nine departments MOUAU lists under its College of Education (COED) at Umudike, about 10 km from Umuahia in Abia State. MOUAU is a federal university of agriculture established by federal decree in November 1992. The course prepares you to organise, manage and give access to information in libraries, archives and digital systems.
What you study
- Foundations: introduction to librarianship, information sources and services, and the information needs of different users.
- Organisation of knowledge: cataloguing, classification and indexing, the core technical skills of the profession.
- Information technology: library automation, databases, digital libraries and information retrieval.
- Management: library administration, collection development, records and archives management.
- Practice: a period of supervised work in a library is normal in Nigerian LIS degrees; check MOUAU’s handbook for its arrangement.
Degree title, duration and accreditation
MOUAU’s official department list confirms Library and Information Science under COED. The degree title (B.Sc (Ed), B.LIS or another title) was not stated in any official source I reached, and neither was the duration; four years through UTME is the usual length for this kind of degree in Nigeria. No NUC accreditation status for the programme appeared in the sources I checked, so I am not claiming one. To practise as a librarian in Nigeria, graduates register with the Librarians’ Registration Council of Nigeria (LRCN).
Careers
- Librarian in university, polytechnic, college, school and public libraries.
- Records and archives officer in government ministries, courts, banks and companies.
- Information or knowledge management roles in NGOs and research institutes.
- Digital content, database and documentation work.
- Postgraduate study leading to academic librarianship and lecturing.

Mistakes that cost Library and Information Science applicants a MOUAU place
- An all-Arts UTME combination: MOUAU’s remark asks for Social Science, Business or Science subjects.
- No Mathematics credit: the general O’level line lists English and Mathematics.
- Treating 150 as an admission score: it only gets you into screening.
- MOUAU not first choice: required by the notice.
- Combining several sittings: MOUAU weights the number of sittings.
- Ignoring CAPS: your offer appears there first, and the four-week acceptance window is short.
MOUAU Library and Information Science cut off mark: frequently asked questions
Can I study Library and Information Science at MOUAU with Literature and CRS in JAMB? It is risky. MOUAU’s remark on the JAMB brochure entry asks for three subjects from the Social Sciences, Business and Sciences, and Literature and CRS are usually classed as Arts. Choose subjects such as Economics, Government and Commerce instead.
Is 160 enough for Library and Information Science in MOUAU? 160 clears MOUAU’s 150 minimum, so you can register for screening. Your O’level grades and number of sittings will decide much of the outcome at that score.
Is Mathematics compulsory for Library and Information Science at MOUAU? The general O’level line on the JAMB entry lists credits in English Language and Mathematics, and I found no MOUAU waiver. Plan on a Mathematics credit.
Do librarians need a licence in Nigeria? Yes. Librarians register with the Librarians’ Registration Council of Nigeria (LRCN) to practise. Ask MOUAU’s department how its graduates complete that registration.
Sources and updates
The 150 minimum, the MOUAU first-choice rule, the 6 June 2026 opening, the ₦2,000 Remita fee, the portal address, the awaiting-result rule and the weighting of O’level grades and sittings come from MOUAU’s 2026/2027 screening notice signed by the Registrar, Dr (Mrs) Nkeiruka Charity Mbanasor, as reprinted by Myschool on 20 June 2026; I could not open the original on mouau.edu.ng. The national minimum of 150, the 31 October 2026 admission deadline, the four-week acceptance window and the warning that admissions outside CAPS are illegal come from the News Agency of Nigeria (11 May 2026). The NCE exemption is from JAMB’s 2026 policy meeting as reported by Nairametrics (11 May 2026) and from JAMB’s NCE and ND special registration guide (June 2026), which also ends degree admissions into colleges of education from 2026/2027. College and department names come from MOUAU’s official Academic Department by Faculty page (last modified 19 June 2026). The general UTME, O’level and Direct Entry lines and MOUAU’s UTME remark come from Myschool’s reprint of the JAMB brochure entry for Library and Information Science. The LRCN registration point is general knowledge about the profession in Nigeria. The safe target table and the worked example are my own advice and illustration. MOUAU’s fees, the degree title, the programme duration and the accreditation status were not published in any source I reached. Checked on 29 October 2026; this page will be updated if MOUAU publishes a departmental cut-off or new requirements.
