The MOUAU cut off mark for Agricultural Extension and Rural Sociology is 150 in the UTME, with Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike (MOUAU) as your first choice. MOUAU applied that minimum to all courses in its 2026/2027 screening notice and published no separate figure for this department.
2027/2028 update: MOUAU cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.
This page sets out the official figures, a safe target score (my advice), the JAMB subjects and MOUAU’s own O’level remark for the course, how screening works, a worked example, the CAPS steps, and what extension graduates actually do.

MOUAU Agricultural Extension and Rural Sociology cut-off history
| Session | Figure | What it is | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2026/2027 | 150 | Minimum UTME score for all MOUAU courses, MOUAU first choice | MOUAU notice (Myschool reprint, 20 June 2026) |
| 2026 (national) | 150 | JAMB minimum for all universities | Official, JAMB policy meeting |
| 2025/2026 | Not confirmed | Blogs say 150; the earlier Myschool page now redirects to the 2026 article | Unverified |
| Departmental figure for Agricultural Extension and Rural Sociology | None | Blog “departmental cut-off” lists cite no MOUAU document | Unofficial |
Extension and rural sociology is usually less crowded than Agricultural Economics in the same college, which is why many candidates who miss Agricultural Economics are offered it on CAPS. That is my experience; MOUAU has not published admission figures to confirm it.
Safe target score for Agricultural Extension and Rural Sociology at MOUAU (my advice)
MOUAU does not publish the score of the last person admitted into each course, so what follows is my judgement as an admissions adviser. It is not a MOUAU rule.
| Your UTME score | My read for MOUAU Agricultural Extension and Rural Sociology |
|---|---|
| Below 150 | Not eligible for any MOUAU course |
| 150 to 169 | Eligible to register, but admission is uncertain |
| 170 to 189 | Reasonable chance with good O’level grades from one sitting |
| 190 and above | Strong. This is the range I would aim for. |
For the 2027 UTME I would aim for at least 170, ideally 190, with credits in English, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology or Agricultural Science and another science.
Catchment and merit
MOUAU is a federal university, so its admissions follow the federal guidelines that mix merit, catchment and educationally less developed states. MOUAU has not published its own split or a list of catchment states, so do not lean on catchment to rescue a low score. A strong UTME result and clean O’level grades from one sitting are what you control.
UTME subject combination and O’level for MOUAU Agricultural Extension and Rural Sociology
| Requirement | Agricultural Extension and Rural Sociology at MOUAU |
|---|---|
| UTME subjects | Use of English, Chemistry, Biology or Agricultural Science, and Mathematics or Physics |
| O’level (MOUAU remark) | Five credits at not more than two sittings, including English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology or Agricultural Science and another science subject |
| Physics | MOUAU’s remark on this entry accepts an O’level pass in Physics |
| Agricultural Science | A credit in Agricultural Science must be backed by at least a pass in Biology |
| Exams accepted | WAEC, NECO, NABTEB |
| Sittings | Two allowed, but MOUAU weights sittings in screening |
| Awaiting results | Register for MOUAU screening only after your result is out |
| Special requirements | None published beyond screening |
Myschool’s reprint of JAMB’s entry for Agricultural Extension and Rural Sociology carries a MOUAU-specific remark: five O’level credits at no more than two sittings, covering English, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology or Agricultural Science and any other science subject, with a pass in Physics accepted and an Agricultural Science credit backed by at least a pass in Biology.
The UTME line is Chemistry, Biology or Agricultural Science, and Mathematics or Physics, plus English. I would choose Mathematics, because extension programmes include statistics and research methods. Confirm the remark on your JAMB e-brochure before registering.
Direct Entry
JAMB’s general entry accepts two A-level passes in Chemistry and one of Zoology, Botany, Agricultural Science, Biology, Geography, Mathematics, Physics, Geology, Economics or Health Science. MOUAU’s own remark asks for A-level passes in Chemistry and Biology, Botany, Zoology or Agricultural Science. Under the Agriculture entry, MOUAU also accepts ND or HND in related fields, with ND distinction or credit and HND credit holders going into 200 level and ND lower credit or NCE double major holders into 100 level. The 2026/2027 notice gave no separate Direct Entry details.
How MOUAU screening works for Agricultural Extension and Rural Sociology
MOUAU’s 2026/2027 screening notice, signed by the Registrar, Dr (Mrs) Nkeiruka Charity Mbanasor, was reprinted by Myschool on 20 June 2026. I could not open the original on mouau.edu.ng, so treat these details as a faithful reprint rather than the source document.
| Detail | MOUAU 2026/2027 screening |
|---|---|
| Who could apply | Candidates who scored 150 or more in the 2026 UTME with MOUAU as first choice; others could first change to MOUAU on the JAMB portal |
| Registration opened | 6 June 2026, online through mouau.edu.ng |
| Portal | portal.mouau.edu.ng (payment problems: portal@mouau.edu.ng) |
| Fee | ₦2,000 through Remita, by card or cash at a bank |
| O’level | WAEC, NECO or NABTEB results uploaded so they reach JAMB CAPS |
| Awaiting results | Candidates still waiting for 2026 results were told not to register until the results were out |
| How candidates are ranked | UTME score, with O’level grades and the number of sittings both weighted |
| Closing date and test date | Not stated in the reprint |
Nothing in the notice says MOUAU set a written Post-UTME test for 2026/2027, so I won’t tell you one was held. Watch the portal after you register: MOUAU told candidates to check it regularly for screening results and admission status.
Worked example for an Agricultural Extension and Rural Sociology candidate
MOUAU has not published an aggregate formula. To show how the pieces interact, here is an illustrative method that many Nigerian universities use: UTME score divided by 8 (up to 50 points), plus O’level points for five relevant subjects with A1 = 10, B2 = 9, B3 = 8, C4 = 7, C5 = 6, C6 = 5 (up to 50 points). This is my example, not MOUAU’s formula.
- Chiamaka scored 188 with B2 in English, B3 in Mathematics, B3 in Chemistry, A1 in Agricultural Science and C4 in Physics, plus a pass in Biology, all from one sitting. UTME points: 188 ÷ 8 = 23.5. O’level points: 9 + 8 + 8 + 10 + 7 = 42. Illustrative total: 65.5.
- Uchenna scored 165 with C5 in English, C4 in Mathematics, C6 in Chemistry, C5 in Biology and C6 in Geography across two sittings. UTME points: 165 ÷ 8 = 20.63. O’level points: 6 + 7 + 5 + 6 + 5 = 29. Illustrative total: 49.63.
- Reading it: Chiamaka leads by 15.87 points. Uchenna also has a subject problem, because Geography is not a science, so he needs another science credit to meet MOUAU’s five-credit rule.
If Uchenna has a pass or credit in Physics in either sitting, that would be the first thing I would check before he pays the screening fee.
How to apply for Agricultural Extension and Rural Sociology at MOUAU, step by step
- Get your JAMB profile code: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN.
- Register the UTME correctly: choose Agricultural Extension and Rural Sociology at MOUAU with Use of English, Chemistry, Biology or Agricultural Science, and Mathematics or Physics, and make MOUAU your first choice. If you already registered for another school, do a JAMB change of institution before MOUAU’s screening opens.
- Upload your O’level to CAPS: do it at an accredited JAMB CBT centre as soon as your result is out. MOUAU counts your grades and sittings, so upload the best single sitting you have.
- Register on the MOUAU portal: when screening opens, go to portal.mouau.edu.ng, fill in your details and generate the Remita invoice.
- Pay ₦2,000: by card or cash at any bank through Remita. Keep the RRR number and receipt.
- Check the portal for results: MOUAU posts screening outcomes and admission status there; there was no published test date in 2026/2027.
- Accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, choose Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS, and accept. JAMB gives four weeks to accept. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status.
- Pay acceptance and clear: MOUAU’s acceptance and school fees were not in any source I reached. Get the amount from the portal invoice and pay only through it.
Warning
Every genuine MOUAU offer appears on JAMB CAPS, and JAMB said in May 2026 that admissions outside CAPS are illegal. Anyone offering a MOUAU “slot” for money is selling something that does not exist, so pay only through the MOUAU portal invoice.
For 2026/2027, JAMB set 31 October 2026 as the date public universities should finish admissions. If you applied, look at CAPS now rather than waiting for a printed list.
Studying Agricultural Extension and Rural Sociology at MOUAU
Agricultural Extension and Rural Sociology is the third department in MOUAU’s College of Agricultural Economics, Rural Sociology and Extension (CAERSE). Extension is the work of carrying research findings to farmers and bringing farmers’ problems back to researchers, so the course mixes agriculture with sociology, communication and community development. MOUAU is a federal university of agriculture at Umudike, about 10 km from Umuahia in Abia State, established in 1992.
What you study
- Early years: general agriculture, introductory sociology, statistics and general studies.
- Extension core: extension methods, agricultural communication, adult learning, and programme planning and evaluation.
- Rural sociology: rural social structure, community development, gender and youth in agriculture, and rural institutions.
- Fieldwork: agriculture degrees in Nigeria usually include a farm practical year, and extension students typically do community-based projects; check MOUAU’s handbook for the exact arrangement.
Degree title, duration and accreditation
MOUAU’s official department list confirms the department. The degree title (B.Agric or B.Sc) and the duration were not in any official source I reached; agriculture degrees in Nigeria usually run for five years. I found no published NUC accreditation status for this programme, so I am not claiming one.
Careers
- Extension officer with state agricultural development programmes.
- Community development and livelihood roles with NGOs and international agencies.
- Farmer training and outreach for agro-input companies and out-grower schemes.
- Research assistant roles in agricultural research institutes.
- Postgraduate study in extension, rural sociology or development studies.

Mistakes that cost Agricultural Extension and Rural Sociology applicants a MOUAU place
- Counting a non-science as the fifth credit: MOUAU’s remark asks for another science subject.
- Agricultural Science credit with no Biology pass: MOUAU will not accept it.
- Treating 150 as admission: it is only the minimum to apply.
- MOUAU not first choice: required by the 2026/2027 notice.
- Rejecting a CAPS transfer without thinking: MOUAU may offer a related CAERSE course, and the early coursework overlaps.
- Paying anyone outside the portal: fees go through the MOUAU portal invoice only.
MOUAU cut off mark for Agricultural Extension and Rural Sociology: frequently asked questions
Is 160 enough for Agricultural Extension in MOUAU? 160 clears the 150 minimum, so you can register for screening. I would treat 170 and above as a reasonable chance, so at 160 your O’level grades and sittings decide most of it.
What JAMB subjects are needed for Agricultural Extension and Rural Sociology at MOUAU? English, Chemistry, Biology or Agricultural Science, and Mathematics or Physics, according to JAMB’s brochure entry as reprinted by Myschool. Confirm on your e-brochure before registering.
Do I need Physics in O’level for Agricultural Extension at MOUAU? MOUAU’s remark accepts a pass in Physics, and you need five credits including another science besides Chemistry and Biology or Agricultural Science. A Physics credit can fill that slot.
Is Agricultural Extension and Rural Sociology a good course? If you like working with people as much as with crops, yes. Graduates work in state agricultural development programmes, NGOs and farmer-training roles, and the course leads on to development studies.
Sources and updates
The 150 minimum, the MOUAU first-choice rule, the 6 June 2026 opening, the ₦2,000 Remita fee, the portal address, the awaiting-result rule and the weighting of O’level grades and sittings come from MOUAU’s 2026/2027 screening notice signed by the Registrar, Dr (Mrs) Nkeiruka Charity Mbanasor, as reprinted by Myschool on 20 June 2026; I could not open the original on mouau.edu.ng. The national minimum of 150, the 31 October 2026 admission deadline, the four-week acceptance window and the warning that admissions outside CAPS are illegal come from the News Agency of Nigeria (11 May 2026). The college and department names come from MOUAU’s official Academic Department by Faculty page (last modified 19 June 2026). The UTME combination, MOUAU’s O’level remark (including the Physics pass and Biology backing) and MOUAU’s A-level remark come from Myschool’s reprint of the JAMB brochure entry for Agricultural Extension and Rural Sociology; MOUAU’s ND, HND and NCE Direct Entry remarks come from the same reprint’s entry for Agriculture. The safe target table and the worked example are my own advice and illustration. MOUAU’s fees, the degree title and the accreditation status were not published in any source I reached. Checked on 29 October 2026; this page will be updated if MOUAU publishes a departmental cut-off or new requirements.
