Amadeus University Cut-Off Mark for Medicine and Surgery 2027/2028: Requirements, Subject Combination and Screening

Plan with 200 in the UTME for Medicine and Surgery at Amadeus University, the figure its Vice-Chancellor gave for MBBS. See the subjects, O’level rules, N3.5m fees, how candidates got in, and why MDCN accreditation is the question to ask first.

The Amadeus University cut-off mark for Medicine and Surgery is best taken as 200 in the UTME. When Amadeus opened MBBS in 2025/2026, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Samuel Nzotta, told The Sun the new courses needed JAMB scores of “200 and above and 180 for D. Pharm”. The 200 sits in his description of MBBS, so it reads as the MBBS figure, though the sentence does not name the course. Either way it is well above the 150 minimum JAMB set for all universities for 2026/2027, and Amadeus has published nothing newer, so 200 is the number to plan with.

2027/2028 update: Amadeus cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.

Before you register, know two things. First, Medicine and Surgery was not on the JAMB-style course list for Amadeus that I could check (19 courses, last updated February 2026), even though the course is on Amadeus’s own programme list as “MBBS. Medicine and Surgery” under its College of Medicine. In 2025/2026 Amadeus filled its MBBS places through JAMB change of institution and change of course. Second, Amadeus is not on the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria’s list of accredited medical schools. If you want a medical school with MDCN accreditation in Abia, ABSU and Gregory University are fully accredited and Rhema University is partially accredited.

The JAMB course name to register is Medicine and Surgery. When you register in 2027, check whether Amadeus now appears under that course on JAMB’s e-brochure. If it does not, the rest of this page explains how candidates got in last year. Below: the figures, a safe target score, the UTME subjects and O’level rules, Direct Entry, how Amadeus selects, the official fees, the steps on CAPS and what the MDCN position means for you.

MBBS is one of only two courses at Amadeus with a published course-level figure, and even that one comes from an interview rather than an admission notice, so confirm it with the admissions office. Prof. Nzotta also said candidates need relevant credit passes in their WAEC or NECO results, and that admission for that session would close on 30 November 2025. With no 2026/2027 notice, I treat 200 as still in force: Amadeus is unlikely to drop below it for its most expensive course.

Safe target score for Medicine at Amadeus (my advice)

This is my judgement, not an Amadeus rule. Amadeus is new and private, so it gets far fewer applicants than ABSU, UNN or Nnamdi Azikiwe University. But MBBS places at any university are limited, and a fee of N3.5 million a year does not stop strong candidates from applying when a public medical school turns them down.

Your UTME scoreMy read for Amadeus MBBS
Below 200Below Amadeus’s stated MBBS minimum; consider Microbiology, Medical Laboratory Science or Public Health
200 to 219Eligible; your O’level grades and any interview decide it
220 to 249Good chance if your five science credits are strong
250 and aboveStrong. At this level, also apply to a fully accredited medical school.

For the 2027 UTME, aim for 230 or more. That keeps Amadeus comfortable and also makes Gregory University Medicine and Rhema University Medicine realistic. ABSU Medicine usually needs much more.

Amadeus Medicine and Surgery subject combination and O’level requirements

Amadeus’s admission page asks for five credits including Mathematics and English plus three other relevant subjects, from WASSCE, NECO or GCE, and a UTME score in line with the national minimum and faculty rules. It does not list the MBBS subjects, so the rest of this table is JAMB’s brochure rule for Medicine and Surgery as reprinted on Myschool. There is no Amadeus remark on that page.

RequirementMedicine and Surgery
UTME subjectsUse of English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology
O’level (JAMB brochure)Five credits: English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology
O’level (Amadeus page)Five credits including Mathematics and English plus three other relevant subjects
SittingsAmadeus’s 2025/2026 admission notice allowed one or two sittings; some universities (UNIBEN, UI, ABSU, FUTO) insist on one
Direct Entry (JAMB brochure)A-level passes in Physics, Chemistry and Biology or Zoology, or a relevant first degree

O’level mistakes that cost medical candidates

  • A pass (D7 or E8) in Physics. All five subjects must be credits, and Physics is the one most candidates fall short in.
  • Using Agricultural Science in place of Biology. It does not count for MBBS.
  • Combining two sittings carelessly. If you can get all five credits in one sitting, do, because a later change to a public medical school may need it.
  • Different names or dates of birth on WAEC, NECO and JAMB records. Fix them before you upload to CAPS.

Direct Entry into Medicine at Amadeus

JAMB’s brochure lets Direct Entry candidates use A-level passes in Physics, Chemistry and Biology or Zoology, or a relevant first degree. Most Nigerian medical schools still admit graduates into 200 level at best. Amadeus has not published a Direct Entry rule for MBBS, so email admissions@amadeus.edu.ng before you buy a Direct Entry form.

How Amadeus selects MBBS candidates

Amadeus does not publish a post-UTME test or an aggregate formula. Its admission page says academic performance comes first but that it also weighs character, extracurricular activities and social involvement, and that it makes room for students from underserved communities. A 2024 blog report spoke of an interview and a minimum age of 16; the university’s own page confirms neither, so prepare for an interview without counting on one.

For 2025/2026, the Vice-Chancellor’s advice to candidates who had already registered with JAMB was to change their university or course to Amadeus. That is the route to expect while Medicine and Surgery is missing from Amadeus’s JAMB list. See our guides to JAMB change of institution and JAMB change of course. JAMB set 30 November 2026 as the 2026/2027 deadline for private universities, and every offer must pass through CAPS.

Worked example (illustrative only)

Amadeus has no published scoring method. Many Nigerian universities rank candidates by a 50/50 mix: UTME score divided by 8 (maximum 50) plus O’level points for five subjects (A1 = 10, B2 = 9, B3 = 8, C4 = 7, C5 = 6, C6 = 5). I use it here only to show how to judge your own strength.

SubjectGradePoints
English LanguageB38
MathematicsB29
PhysicsC47
ChemistryB38
BiologyA110
O’level total42

A candidate with 232 in the UTME earns 232 ÷ 8 = 29 points. With 42 O’level points the aggregate is 71 out of 100. A second candidate with 256 but C6 in Physics and C5 in English drops to 37 O’level points and an aggregate of 69. For medicine, a weak science grade can cancel out 24 extra UTME marks.

Amadeus Medicine and Surgery school fees and scholarships

Amadeus publishes its fees on its tuition and fees page. These are the figures it showed when I checked on 29 October 2026. The page says the fees are per session but does not name the session, and it does not say which of the other charges are paid once. Confirm the current schedule with the admissions office before you pay.

ItemAmount
Medicine and Surgery tuition (per session)N3,500,000
Acceptance fee (first-year students only, non-refundable)N200,000
Medical insuranceN85,000
Library and ICTN120,000
Laboratory and workshopsN50,000
Hostel, two-person room (per bed space)N900,000
Hostel, four-person room (per bed space, limited)N550,000

The form fee is not on that page. Amadeus also runs scholarships tied to its founder: the Vice-Chancellor told The Sun in November 2025 about the Dr Godwin Nwabunka Foundation scholarship (tuition, services and accommodation for students from low-income homes), a Grooming Centre scholarship for children of the microfinance group’s clients and staff, and a Grooming Endowment Trust scholarship open to Nigerian undergraduates. Ask the admissions office whether these are open for the 2027/2028 intake and what the deadline is.

At N3.5 million tuition plus the other charges, the first year can pass N4 million before books and upkeep. Over six years that is a large commitment, which is another reason to look hard at the MDCN position below before you accept.

How to apply for Medicine at Amadeus, step by step

  1. Create your JAMB profile: send your NIN to 55019 or 66019 from your own line to get a profile code, then register for the UTME at an accredited centre.
  2. Choose Amadeus and Medicine and Surgery: pick Amadeus University, Amizi, and “Medicine and Surgery” with English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology. If Amadeus is not offered under that course when you register, choose another university and plan to use change of institution later, as Amadeus’s 2025/2026 candidates did.
  3. Meet the score: check your result and plan with our guide on what to do with your JAMB score.
  4. Upload your O’level to CAPS: at a JAMB-accredited centre, as soon as your WAEC, NECO or GCE result is out. Amadeus cannot propose you for admission without it.
  5. Apply on the Amadeus portal: register at admissions.amadeus.edu.ng, fill the form and upload your documents. The fee for the form is not published; confirm it on the portal.
  6. Attend any interview or assessment: if the admissions office invites you, take your original O’level results, UTME result slip and birth certificate or age declaration.
  7. Accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, go to Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS. JAMB gives four weeks to accept. Our JAMB CAPS guide shows each screen.
  8. Pay acceptance and school fees: only to Amadeus’s official account, and only after CAPS shows your admission.

Warning

MDCN, not NUC, decides whether a medical school’s graduates can be inducted and registered as doctors. Amadeus is not on MDCN’s list of accredited medical schools, and its teaching hospital is still a plan. Before you pay, ask the admissions office in writing for MDCN’s approval letter and admission quota for Amadeus.

About Amadeus University and its Medicine programme

Amadeus University is a private university at Amizi, Ikwuano Local Government Area, Abia State. NUC handed over its licence in June 2023 (ThisDay, 17 June 2023), lectures began in September 2024, and Senate President Godswill Akpabio declared it open at its first matriculation on 8 February 2025. Amadeus says NUC granted it a full operational licence on 23 September 2026. The founder is Dr Godwin Nwabunka, chairman of the Grooming Centre board, and the Vice-Chancellor is Prof. Samuel Nzotta. MBBS sits in the planned College of Medicine. The Vice-Chancellor told The Sun in November 2025 that NUC had approved Medicine and Surgery, Pharmacy and Law, that MBBS admissions had started, and that the university’s medical centre would grow into a full teaching hospital at the right time.

What you study

Amadeus has not published its MBBS course outline. Nigerian MBBS degrees follow NUC’s curriculum and MDCN’s training standards, so expect:

  • A pre-clinical first year of Physics, Chemistry, Biology and general studies
  • Basic medical sciences: Anatomy, Physiology and Biochemistry, ending in the second MBBS examination
  • Pathology, Pharmacology, Microbiology and Haematology
  • Clinical postings in Medicine, Surgery, Paediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Community Medicine and Psychiatry
  • Final MBBS examinations, then a one-year housemanship and NYSC

Accreditation and licensing

MDCN’s list of medical schools it has accredited, on mdcn.gov.ng, names 57 schools; Amadeus is not one of them. The Abia entries are ABSU (fully accredited, quota 150), Gregory University (fully accredited, quota 120) and Rhema University (partially accredited, quota 100). The list is undated, so a recent approval may be missing, but I found no other report of MDCN approval or an MDCN quota for Amadeus. NUC’s “Accreditation Results 1990 to 2025” has no Amadeus entry either, which is normal for a course that began in 2025.

A medical school also needs a teaching hospital for clinical training. Amadeus has said it plans one; it has not announced a partner hospital. Without MDCN accreditation by the time students reach the clinical years, graduates cannot be inducted. Ask for MDCN’s approval letter and quota before you accept.

Careers

After induction and registration with MDCN, doctors do housemanship and NYSC, then work in hospitals, primary care, public health and research, or go on to residency in a specialty such as surgery, paediatrics or internal medicine.

Other Abia medical schools: Abia State University, Gregory University, Rhema University and Nigerian British University. Revise with our JAMB Biology syllabus and JAMB Chemistry syllabus.

Amadeus Medicine and Surgery cut-off mark: FAQs

What is the Amadeus University cut-off mark for Medicine for 2027/2028?

Plan with 200, the figure the Vice-Chancellor gave when MBBS admission opened in 2025/2026. Amadeus has not published a new figure; I would aim for 230 or more.

Can I choose Amadeus for Medicine and Surgery on my JAMB form?

Amadeus was missing under Medicine and Surgery on the JAMB-style list I checked. Look for it on JAMB’s e-brochure when you register; if it is not there, choose another school and use change of institution later.

Is Amadeus University Medicine accredited by MDCN?

Not on MDCN’s published list. NUC approved the course to start, but MDCN accreditation is what lets graduates be registered as doctors, so ask Amadeus for its MDCN approval before paying.

How much is the school fee for Medicine at Amadeus University?

Tuition is N3,500,000 per session on Amadeus’s fees page, plus a N200,000 acceptance fee and other charges such as insurance, library and ICT, and hostel.
