UNIUYO Cut-Off Mark for Psychology 2027/2028 and Requirements

UNIUYO asks for at least 150 in the UTME for Psychology, with UNIUYO first choice, and its brochure remark requires Biology. Here is a safe target score and the full process.

The UNIUYO cut off mark for Psychology for 2027 planning starts at 150 in the UTME. That is the only minimum the University of Uyo published for its 2026/2027 Post-UTME and Direct Entry screening, and it applied to every course, Psychology included, for candidates who chose UNIUYO as their first choice. UNIUYO did not publish a separate departmental cut-off for Psychology.

2027/2028 update: UNIUYO cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.

Psychology at UNIUYO has a rule that many guides miss: UNIUYO is one of four universities the JAMB brochure names as requiring Biology. Below are the official figures, my safe target, the Biology rule in full, the screening steps and what the course covers.

Psychology was not among the courses with vacancies in UNIUYO’s 2023/2024 supplementary admission. It filled from first-choice candidates.

Some blogs print a list of UNIUYO departmental cut-offs with a number for each course. None of those lists points to a UNIUYO document, so I don’t use them here and I wouldn’t plan around them.

Why 150 is not the score that gets you admitted

Psychology has become one of the more popular social science courses in Nigeria, and many health-course candidates list it as a fallback. UNIUYO does not publish the closing score, but with no supplementary vacancies in 2023/2024, expect it well above 150.

JAMB set 31 October 2026 as the 2026/2027 deadline for public universities to finish admissions; that date has now passed, and UNIUYO is a federal university. Late or supplementary offers can still show up on JAMB CAPS after a main list, so 2026 candidates should keep checking CAPS. For everyone else, the planning is for the 2027 UTME and the 2027/2028 session.

Safe target score for Psychology at UNIUYO (my advice)

This is my judgement as an admissions adviser, built on the 150 minimum, how Psychology usually compares with other UNIUYO courses, and what supplementary notices have shown. It is not a UNIUYO rule.

Your UTME scoreMy read for UNIUYO Psychology
Below 150Not eligible. UNIUYO only screened candidates with 150 or more.
150 to 179Eligible to apply, but the main merit list is unlikely. Watch for a supplementary exercise.
180 to 209Possible, mainly with strong O’level grades and if demand is normal that year.
210 to 229Competitive. This is my safe target score.
230 and aboveStrong. You should be in a good position if your O’level and subjects are right.

For the 2027 UTME I would aim for at least 210, with credits in English, Biology and Mathematics.

UTME subject combination and O’level for UNIUYO Psychology

RequirementPsychology at UNIUYO
UTME subjectsUse of English, Biology and two arts or social science subjects. The general rule is any three arts or social science subjects, but the brochure says UNIUYO, Renaissance, OAU and EKSU require Biology
O’level (UNIUYO remark)A credit in Biology or Health Science and at least a pass (P7) in Mathematics, with other credits from Economics, History, Government and other social science or science subjects
O’level (general rule)Five credits in Government or History, English Language and three other subjects, with a pass in Mathematics
Exams acceptedWAEC, NECO, NABTEB or GCE
Direct Entry (UNIUYO remark)Any two A level passes, or RN, plus five credits including Health Science or Biology and at least a pass in Mathematics

The Biology rule is in UNIUYO’s remark in Myschool’s reprint of the JAMB brochure. An arts candidate with English, Government, Literature and CRS meets JAMB’s general rule but not UNIUYO’s, and risks being screened out. Register Biology with two social science subjects, such as Economics and Government.

At O’level, UNIUYO asks for a credit in Biology (or Health Science). The remark accepts a pass in Mathematics, but a credit is safer, since UNIUYO’s other adverts ask for English and Mathematics credits.

Direct Entry into Psychology

UNIUYO’s DE remark accepts any two A level passes, or a Registered Nurse (RN) qualification, with five O’level credits including Health Science or Biology and at least a pass in Mathematics. That makes Psychology one of the few UNIUYO social science courses open to nurses through Direct Entry.

How UNIUYO screening works

UNIUYO runs one Post-UTME/Direct Entry screening exercise for all courses. Here is what the 2026/2027 exercise looked like.

DetailUNIUYO 2026/2027
Who could applyCandidates who chose UNIUYO as 1st choice in the 2026 UTME and scored at least 150, and DE candidates who chose UNIUYO 1st

Fee₦2,000 through a Remita RRR (amount from reprints; the official page shows only the Remita method)
DocumentsUploaded as PDF on the portal
End resultA printed 2026/2027 Screening Exercise Slip
Test formatNot published in the notice, which says only “screening exercise”
Aggregate formulaNot published
Closing dateFriday 7 August 2026 according to abstechconnect; not on the official page

Because UNIUYO has not said whether the regular screening includes a written test, prepare as if there is one. Revise your four UTME subjects and keep your O’level result, UTME result slip and any other document the portal asks for ready as clear PDFs. The guidelines page on eportals.uniuyo.edu.ng is the place to check once the 2027/2028 form opens.

Worked example for a Psychology candidate

UNIUYO has no published aggregate formula, so the useful calculation is the gap between your UTME score, the 150 minimum and the safe target. The figures below are illustrations, not UNIUYO results.

Take Idara, who scored 224 with B2 in English, C4 in Mathematics, B3 in Biology, B3 in Economics and B2 in Government.

  1. Eligibility: 224 minus 150 = 74. Idara clears UNIUYO’s minimum by 74 marks.
  2. Against my safe target: 224 minus 210 = 14. Idara is 14 marks above the score I treat as competitive.
  3. O’level check: a credit in Biology and in Mathematics, plus three social science credits.
  4. What I would advise: keep Psychology as first choice and double-check that Biology is on her UTME list.

Nsikak scored 182. 182 minus 150 = 32, so he can register for screening. He is 28 marks below my target. With good O’level grades he has a chance; Sociology and Anthropology would be a reasonable CAPS alternative.

How to apply for Psychology at UNIUYO, step by step

  1. Get your JAMB profile code: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN.
  2. Register for the UTME: choose Psychology with English, Biology, Economics and Government, and make UNIUYO your first choice.
  3. Upload your O’level to CAPS: do it at a JAMB-accredited centre as soon as your results are out. UNIUYO cannot offer you admission on CAPS without it.
  4. Create your screening account: go to admissions.uniuyo.edu.ng when the Post-UTME notice is out, create an account and verify your email.
  5. Pay the fee: generate a Remita RRR on the portal and pay (₦2,000 in 2026/2027, per reprints).
  6. Complete the form and print your slip: fill the application form, upload your documents in PDF and print the Screening Exercise Slip.
  7. Accept on CAPS: when an offer appears, log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, open Check Admission Status and accept. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status.
  8. Pay acceptance and clear: UNIUYO has not published its acceptance fee in the official pages I reached, so confirm the amount on the UNIUYO portal before you pay anything.

Warning

UNIUYO’s 2026/2027 screening notice was open only to candidates who chose UNIUYO as first choice. If UNIUYO is your second choice, do a JAMB change of institution before the screening form opens, or you may not be able to register at all. Pay only through the Remita RRR generated on the UNIUYO portal.

If you need to fix your choice of school or course, read our guides to JAMB change of institution and JAMB change of course.

Other ways into Psychology at UNIUYO

UNIUYO’s May 2026 advert, signed by the Registrar, Mrs. Blossom E. Okorie, describes two one-year programmes that feed into degree courses. The Pre-Degree programme is only for science, agriculture and education courses, so Basic Studies is the one that applies here.

  • Basic Studies: open to all faculties. You need five credits including English and Mathematics plus three relevant subjects, at not more than two sittings. Admission is usually through a CBT screening test, and no JAMB score is required. Successful students can move into 200 level through JAMB Direct Entry if they meet the course rules. The form cost ₦15,500 (the advert prints it as “N15,5000”).

For 2026/2027, Basic Studies registration closed on 30 September 2026 and the screening test was set for 27 October to 7 November 2026. Expect similar timing in 2027, but wait for the new advert.

Studying Psychology at UNIUYO

Psychology is in the Faculty of Social Sciences. A B.Sc. in Psychology normally takes four years in Nigeria; UNIUYO did not confirm the duration in the pages I reached.

Accreditation

I could not find an NUC accreditation report for UNIUYO Psychology, so its status is not confirmed here. Sociology and Economics in the same faculty had full accreditation after December 2024 visits. Ask the department for the Psychology result before you pay acceptance.

What you study

  • Introductory, developmental and social psychology
  • Biological psychology and the nervous system
  • Abnormal psychology and introduction to clinical psychology
  • Cognitive psychology, learning and motivation
  • Statistics, research methods and psychological testing
  • Industrial and organisational psychology, and a final-year project

Careers after Psychology

Psychology graduates work in human resources, counselling and welfare roles, schools, NGOs, market and social research, and community health programmes. Clinical psychology and other specialist practice need postgraduate training after the first degree.

For UTME Biology revision, use our JAMB Biology syllabus.

Mistakes that cost Psychology applicants a UNIUYO place

  • No Biology in the UTME: UNIUYO’s remark requires it.
  • No Biology or Health Science credit at O’level: UNIUYO asks for one of them.
  • Treating 150 as an admission score: it is only the minimum to register for screening.
  • Making UNIUYO your second choice: the 2026/2027 notice screened 1st-choice candidates only.
  • No O’level on CAPS: an offer cannot be completed without it.
  • Ignoring the supplementary exercise: UNIUYO has run one in past sessions for candidates who missed their first-choice course.

If you are writing the UTME again, see when JAMB 2027 registration starts and how to check your JAMB result and use the score.

Can a nurse get Direct Entry into Psychology at UNIUYO? Yes. UNIUYO’s DE remark accepts an RN qualification with five O’level credits including Health Science or Biology.

Is Psychology a science or social science course at UNIUYO? It is in the Faculty of Social Sciences, but UNIUYO’s Biology requirement means you need some science background.

Sources and updates

The 150 minimum, the 1st-choice rule, the Remita payment and the portal steps come from UNIUYO’s 2026/2027 Post-UTME/Direct Entry screening notice on uniuyo.edu.ng (the page carries a reused 2023/2024 web address). Myschool’s reprint of 5 June 2026 also gives 150 and the ₦2,000 fee. The 2023/2024 figure of 140 is from UNIUYO’s 2023/2024 supplementary admission notice, signed by the Registrar, Mrs. Blossom E. Okorie; the 2025/2026 figures are reported by abstechconnect (15 August 2025) and Myschool (18 October 2025). The Basic Studies and Pre-Degree details are from UNIUYO’s 2026/2027 Basic Studies and Pre-Degree advert (May 2026). The national minimum of 150 and the 31 October 2026 deadline for public universities come from the News Agency of Nigeria (11 May 2026). The subject rules and UNIUYO’s UTME, O’level and DE remarks are from Myschool’s reprint of the JAMB brochure for Psychology. The Sociology and Economics results are from NUC’s accreditation reports (December 2024). The safe target score is my own advice. Checked on 3 November 2026; this page will be updated if UNIUYO publishes a departmental cut-off or a 2027/2028 notice.
