Akwa Ibom Poly Mechatronics Engineering Technology Cut-Off Mark 2027/2028

The Akwa Ibom Poly Mechatronics Engineering Technology cut off mark is 100, the JAMB polytechnic minimum that the school also used for 2026/2027, and no departmental figure is published. This guide adds a safe target score of 140, the subjects, O’level rules, screening and CAPS steps.

The Akwa Ibom Poly Mechatronics Engineering Technology cut off mark is 100 in the UTME. That comes from the 2026/2027 ND cut-off of Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic, Ikot Osurua: “100 and above” in the 2026 UTME, the same as JAMB’s national minimum for polytechnics. No figure has been published for Mechatronics Engineering Technology on its own.

2027/2028 update: Akwa Ibom Poly cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.

Mechatronics Engineering Technology is an established course at Akwa Ibom Poly. JAMB lists it for the school, the 2026/2027 ND admission notice includes it, and you can choose it on your UTME profile.

The drop from 120 (the 2024/2025 figure blogs reported) to “100 and above” in the 2026/2027 notice put the school in line with JAMB’s national minimum. For Mechatronics Engineering Technology on its own there has never been a published figure; anyone quoting one is guessing.

Safe target score for Mechatronics Engineering Technology at Akwa Ibom Poly (my advice)

Treat this table as an adviser’s judgement for Mechatronics Engineering Technology applicants. It is not a rule set by Akwa Ibom Poly, and the school publishes no merit lists with scores.

Your UTME scoreMy read for ND Mechatronics Engineering Technology at Akwa Ibom Poly
Below 100Not eligible for any ND course this session
100 to 119Eligible, but borderline
120 to 139Fair to good chance
140 to 159Good chance; 140 is the score I would aim for
160 and aboveStrong

For Mechatronics Engineering Technology I would go into the 2027 UTME aiming for 140 or more, with clean credits in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry and the other O’level subjects below. The minimum only gets you screened. When the department has more applicants than places, the extra margin is what protects you.

Catchment and state of origin

Akwa Ibom indigenes may wonder whether they get priority for Mechatronics Engineering Technology. The school is owned by the Akwa Ibom State Government, and state polytechnics often favour indigenes in some way, but Akwa Ibom Poly has not published any catchment list or quota for 2026/2027. It admits candidates from other states as well, so unless the notice mentions one, I would not count on or worry about a state-of-origin effect.

Akwa Ibom Poly Mechatronics Engineering Technology subject combination and O’level requirements

RequirementND Mechatronics Engineering Technology
UTME subjectsUse of English, Mathematics, Chemistry and Physics or Technical Drawing
O’levelCredits in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry plus any two from Biology/Agricultural Science, Technical Drawing, Basic Electronics/Basic Electricity, Auto Mechanics, Metal Work, Further Mathematics, English Language, Geography and Economics/Commerce
English LanguageThe brochure says at least a credit in English Language is required
Brochure remark for Akwa Ibom PolyNone found
Exams acceptedWAEC, NECO or NABTEB (named in the school notice)
SittingsNot stated in the reprint; most polytechnics accept two sittings

For Mechatronics Engineering Technology, I would register English, Mathematics, Chemistry and Physics. Our JAMB Chemistry syllabus will help you plan your revision.

Think of the five credits as Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry first, then whatever helps Mechatronics Engineering Technology most in the remaining slots. Upload the same result to CAPS that you take to screening; both JAMB and the school need the same grades in front of them.

Direct Entry and the HND route

First-year ND places, including ND Mechatronics Engineering Technology, are filled through the UTME and CAPS only, with no Direct Entry. The HND goes as a direct application to the polytechnic, outside CAPS, after the ND and the one-year industrial attachment. Our guide to Akwa Ibom Poly HND admission requirements walks through it.

How Akwa Ibom Poly screening works

June 2026 brought the 2026/2027 ND cut-off and screening fee from Akwa Ibom Poly; September brought screening for ND and HND applicants. I worked from Myschool’s reprints of both notices because the school website would not open for me.

Screening fee₦2,000Official
Screening datesWednesday 9 to Friday 11 September 2026, from 9:00 a.m. each dayOfficial; these dates have passed

2024/2025 (for comparison)A blog reported 120 and above, a ₦2,000 form and a 30 August 2024 closing dateUnofficial

The 2026 notice described a document check at department level, with no written or computer test mentioned. In that kind of exercise, what separates Mechatronics Engineering Technology candidates is mostly the UTME score and the quality of the O’level result, especially in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. That is my reading of how such screening usually works; the school has not published its ranking method.

Worked example for an ND Mechatronics Engineering Technology applicant

Take Nsisong, who scored 144 in English, Mathematics, Chemistry and Physics, with credits in English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Basic Electricity from one sitting.

  1. Eligibility: 144 minus 100 = 44. Nsisong is above the school minimum.
  2. Against my safe target: 144 minus 140 = 4. That is inside the range I would aim for.
  3. O’level check: the core subjects for Mechatronics Engineering Technology are among the five credits, and all five come from one sitting.
  4. CAPS check: the same O’level result must be uploaded to JAMB CAPS, or no offer can be approved.

Suppose another Mechatronics Engineering Technology applicant scored 110 and has the same O’level grades. With documents equally good, the higher UTME score is usually ahead, so Nsisong at 144 would sit above them. This is illustrative only; the school has not published how it ranks applicants after screening.

Your chances of getting Mechatronics Engineering Technology at Akwa Ibom Poly

  • Mechatronics is newer and less well known than Electrical or Mechanical, so competition is often lighter.
  • You still need strong Mathematics and Physics, because the course mixes three engineering fields.
  • If CAPS offers you Electrical/Electronic or Mechanical Engineering instead, both share the same core.
  • Blogs reported Akwa Ibom Poly releasing ND lists in batches in 2025/2026, so a missing name in the first list was not a rejection.
  • Offers can come late in the year: JAMB asked polytechnics to finish 2026/2027 admissions by 31 December 2026.

How to apply for Mechatronics Engineering Technology at Akwa Ibom Poly, step by step

  1. Get a profile code: on the phone line linked to your NIN, send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019.
  2. Register the right combination: choose Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic, Ikot Osurua and Mechatronics Engineering Technology exactly as JAMB names it, with the subject combination above.
  3. Get your O’level onto CAPS: a JAMB accredited centre does the upload. JAMB cannot approve an offer while CAPS shows no O’level result.
  4. Sort out your choices before screening: a JAMB change of institution is the answer if Akwa Ibom Poly was not your choice, and JAMB change of course explains how to move into Mechatronics Engineering Technology from another course.
  5. Apply online: after the notice comes out, follow the application link on akwaibompoly.edu.ng, pay the screening fee (₦2,000 in 2026), fill the form and print your slip.
  6. Report to the Mechatronics Engineering Technology department: candidates reported to their departments from 9:00 a.m. in 2026, documents in hand. Take your UTME result slip, your screening slip and the WAEC or NECO statement of result, and check that it shows your Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry credits.
  7. Accept your admission: when Akwa Ibom Poly offers you Mechatronics Engineering Technology, log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, go to Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS, and accept the offer. When a status is unclear, our JAMB CAPS guide covers each one.
  8. Acceptance fee and clearance: I could not find the Akwa Ibom Poly acceptance fee in any source I reached. Use only an invoice generated on the school portal for payment, then complete clearance with your printed JAMB admission letter.

Warning

Akwa Ibom Poly admits through JAMB CAPS. If you are offered a “special list” slot or a change of course in exchange for money, walk away. Look for the offer on your CAPS page, and pay the school only through a portal invoice in your name.

If the UTME is still ahead of you, you should read when JAMB 2027 registration starts. For the results stage, see how to check your JAMB result.

Studying Mechatronics Engineering Technology at Akwa Ibom Poly

ND Mechatronics Engineering Technology sits in the School of Engineering at Ikot Osurua, off the Aba road near Ikot Ekpene, Akwa Ibom State. Mechatronics combines mechanical, electrical and computer engineering to build and maintain automated machines, robots and control systems.

What you study

These are the usual topics in the NBTE ND curriculum for Mechatronics Engineering Technology. The department has not published its own course list online.

  • Engineering mathematics and engineering drawing
  • Mechanics, machines and workshop practice
  • Electrical circuits and electronics
  • Sensors, actuators and control systems
  • Programmable logic controllers and microcontrollers
  • Computing and general studies

Duration and accreditation

Expect two years full time for ND Mechatronics Engineering Technology, short SIWES placement included, in the standard NBTE structure. HND applicants then do a one-year industrial attachment and usually need at least a Lower Credit ND. This is the national pattern; Akwa Ibom Poly has not published a course-specific timetable.

Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic appears in the NBTE directory as a state polytechnic, established in 1991. For ND Mechatronics Engineering Technology specifically, I could not confirm the NBTE status. Ask the department or look at the NBTE’s list of approved programmes before paying any fees.

Careers after the ND

  • Automation and instrumentation technician in factories and oil and gas plants
  • Maintenance technician for automated production lines
  • Robotics and control systems assistant
  • Technician in telecoms and electronics firms
  • HND Mechatronics or a related engineering HND, then COREN registration as a technologist (check current rules)

Mistakes that cost Mechatronics Engineering Technology applicants

  • Choosing it without liking both machines and electronics: you study both.
  • No Chemistry credit: it is required at O’level.
  • Forgetting the English credit: the brochure asks for it.
  • O’level missing on CAPS: JAMB cannot approve an offer without it.
  • Missing the departmental screening: in 2026 it ran for three days only, 9 to 11 September.

Sources and updates

Myschool reprinted the school’s 2026/2027 notice on 27 June 2026; that is the source for the cut-off of “100 and above” and the ₦2,000 fee for screening. A Myschool report dated 25 August 2026 gave the screening dates, 9 to 11 September 2026. The 120 reported for 2024/2025 comes only from an allschool blog post, so it is unofficial. The campus location and the founding year were taken from Wikipedia and the NBTE directory. The JAMB course list is the Myschool list of Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic courses. On the national side, I went to the News Agency of Nigeria report on JAMB’s 2026 policy meeting, published 11 May 2026: that report gives the 100 minimum for polytechnics and the 31 December 2026 deadline for admissions. For the year before, the figure of 100 is from Nairametrics (8 July 2025), and AllAfrica and Blueprint reported the same. The subject and O’level rules come from JAMB’s polytechnic brochure in Myschool’s reprint (ND Mechatronics Engineering Technology brochure page). Two things here are my own advice: the worked example and the safe target scores. Last checked 3 November 2026. When Akwa Ibom Poly publishes its 2027/2028 notice, this page will be updated.
