The UNIUYO Sociology and Anthropology cut off mark for 2027 planning starts at 150 in the UTME. That is the only minimum the University of Uyo published for its 2026/2027 Post-UTME and Direct Entry screening, and it applied to every course, Sociology and Anthropology included, for candidates who chose UNIUYO as their first choice. UNIUYO did not publish a separate departmental cut-off for Sociology and Anthropology.
2027/2028 update: UNIUYO cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.
Sociology and Anthropology is in UNIUYO’s Faculty of Social Sciences. Its last NUC score, 93.58%, is the highest I found for any UNIUYO programme. Below are the official figures, my safe target, the subjects, the screening steps and what the course covers.

| My safe target score | 190 and above | Consultant advice, not a UNIUYO rule |

UNIUYO Sociology and Anthropology cut-off history
| Session | Figure | What it is | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2026/2027 | 150 | Minimum UTME score to register for Post-UTME screening, UNIUYO as 1st choice | Official UNIUYO notice |
| 2025/2026 | 150 | Minimum UTME score for screening, 1st choice | Reported (abstechconnect reprint, 15 Aug 2025); original not seen |
| 2025/2026 supplementary | 150 and above | For screening registrants not admitted into their first-choice course | Reported (Myschool, 18 Oct 2025) |
| 2023/2024 supplementary | 140 and above | For screening registrants not admitted into their first-choice course | Official UNIUYO notice signed by the Registrar |
Sociology was not among the courses with vacancies in UNIUYO’s 2023/2024 supplementary admission. It filled from first-choice candidates that year.
Some blogs print a list of UNIUYO departmental cut-offs with a number for each course. None of those lists points to a UNIUYO document, so I don’t use them here and I wouldn’t plan around them.
Why 150 is not the score that gets you admitted
UNIUYO does not publish the Sociology closing score. The course draws many arts and social science candidates, and it often receives candidates who missed Psychology or Political Science. With no supplementary vacancies in 2023/2024, expect a merit score above 150, though usually lower than Psychology or Economics.
JAMB set 31 October 2026 as the 2026/2027 deadline for public universities to finish admissions; that date has now passed, and UNIUYO is a federal university. Late or supplementary offers can still show up on JAMB CAPS after a main list, so 2026 candidates should keep checking CAPS. For everyone else, the planning is for the 2027 UTME and the 2027/2028 session.
Safe target score for Sociology and Anthropology at UNIUYO (my advice)
This is my judgement as an admissions adviser, built on the 150 minimum, how Sociology and Anthropology usually compares with other UNIUYO courses, and what supplementary notices have shown. It is not a UNIUYO rule.
| Your UTME score | My read for UNIUYO Sociology and Anthropology |
|---|---|
| Below 150 | Not eligible. UNIUYO only screened candidates with 150 or more. |
| 150 to 159 | Eligible to apply, but the main merit list is unlikely. Watch for a supplementary exercise. |
| 160 to 189 | Possible, mainly with strong O’level grades and if demand is normal that year. |
| 190 to 209 | Competitive. This is my safe target score. |
| 210 and above | Strong. You should be in a good position if your O’level and subjects are right. |
For the 2027 UTME I would aim for at least 190, with credits in English, Government and Mathematics.
UTME subject combination and O’level for UNIUYO Sociology and Anthropology
| Requirement | Sociology and Anthropology at UNIUYO |
|---|---|
| UTME subjects | Use of English and three social science or arts subjects (JAMB brochure, general rule) |
| O’level | Five credits in Government or History, English Language and three other subjects, with a pass in Mathematics |
| UNIUYO remark | None on the Sociology brochure page |
| Exams accepted | WAEC, NECO, NABTEB or GCE |
| Direct Entry | Two A level passes including Government or History |
The UTME rule is wide. Government, Economics and CRS or Literature in English is a safe set, and Government with Economics keeps Political Science and Economics open as alternatives.
The brochure asks only for a pass in Mathematics, with no UNIUYO-specific remark. UNIUYO’s Basic Studies advert asks for credits in English and Mathematics, so I would have a Mathematics credit to be safe.
Direct Entry into Sociology and Anthropology
Direct Entry needs two A level passes including Government or History. Choose UNIUYO first on your DE form, since the 1st-choice rule applied to DE in 2026/2027.
How UNIUYO screening works
UNIUYO runs one Post-UTME/Direct Entry screening exercise for all courses. Here is what the 2026/2027 exercise looked like.
| Detail | UNIUYO 2026/2027 |
|---|---|
| Who could apply | Candidates who chose UNIUYO as 1st choice in the 2026 UTME and scored at least 150, and DE candidates who chose UNIUYO 1st |
| Portal | admissions.uniuyo.edu.ng |
| Fee | ₦2,000 through a Remita RRR (amount from reprints; the official page shows only the Remita method) |
| Documents | Uploaded as PDF on the portal |
| End result | A printed 2026/2027 Screening Exercise Slip |
| Test format | Not published in the notice, which says only “screening exercise” |
| Aggregate formula | Not published |
| Closing date | Friday 7 August 2026 according to abstechconnect; not on the official page |
Because UNIUYO has not said whether the regular screening includes a written test, prepare as if there is one. Revise your four UTME subjects and keep your O’level result, UTME result slip and any other document the portal asks for ready as clear PDFs. The guidelines page on eportals.uniuyo.edu.ng is the place to check once the 2027/2028 form opens.
Worked example for a Sociology and Anthropology candidate
UNIUYO has no published aggregate formula, so the useful calculation is the gap between your UTME score, the 150 minimum and the safe target. The figures below are illustrations, not UNIUYO results.
Take Imaobong, who scored 198 with B3 in English, C5 in Mathematics, B2 in Government, C4 in Economics and B3 in CRS.
- Eligibility: 198 minus 150 = 48. Imaobong clears UNIUYO’s minimum by 48 marks.
- Against my safe target: 198 minus 190 = 8. Imaobong is 8 marks above the score I treat as competitive.
- O’level check: credits in English, Government and three others, including Mathematics.
- What I would advise: choose Sociology and Anthropology as first preference and register for screening early.
Aniekan scored 165. 165 minus 150 = 15, so he can register for screening. He is 25 marks short of my target. With good O’level grades he still has a chance, and a CAPS offer into a related course would be worth weighing.
How to apply for Sociology and Anthropology at UNIUYO, step by step
- Get your JAMB profile code: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN.
- Register for the UTME: choose Sociology and Anthropology with English, Government, Economics and CRS (or Literature in English), and make UNIUYO your first choice.
- Upload your O’level to CAPS: do it at a JAMB-accredited centre as soon as your results are out. UNIUYO cannot offer you admission on CAPS without it.
- Create your screening account: go to admissions.uniuyo.edu.ng when the Post-UTME notice is out, create an account and verify your email.
- Pay the fee: generate a Remita RRR on the portal and pay (₦2,000 in 2026/2027, per reprints).
- Complete the form and print your slip: fill the application form, upload your documents in PDF and print the Screening Exercise Slip.
- Accept on CAPS: when an offer appears, log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, open Check Admission Status and accept. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status.
- Pay acceptance and clear: UNIUYO has not published its acceptance fee in the official pages I reached, so confirm the amount on the UNIUYO portal before you pay anything.
Warning
UNIUYO’s 2026/2027 screening notice was open only to candidates who chose UNIUYO as first choice. If UNIUYO is your second choice, do a JAMB change of institution before the screening form opens, or you may not be able to register at all. Pay only through the Remita RRR generated on the UNIUYO portal.
If you need to fix your choice of school or course, read our guides to JAMB change of institution and JAMB change of course.
Other ways into Sociology and Anthropology at UNIUYO
UNIUYO’s May 2026 advert, signed by the Registrar, Mrs. Blossom E. Okorie, describes two one-year programmes that feed into degree courses. The Pre-Degree programme is only for science, agriculture and education courses, so Basic Studies is the one that applies here.
- Basic Studies: open to all faculties. You need five credits including English and Mathematics plus three relevant subjects, at not more than two sittings. Admission is usually through a CBT screening test, and no JAMB score is required. Successful students can move into 200 level through JAMB Direct Entry if they meet the course rules. The form cost ₦15,500 (the advert prints it as “N15,5000”).
For 2026/2027, Basic Studies registration closed on 30 September 2026 and the screening test was set for 27 October to 7 November 2026. Expect similar timing in 2027, but wait for the new advert.
Studying Sociology and Anthropology at UNIUYO

Mistakes that cost Sociology and Anthropology applicants a UNIUYO place
- No Government or History credit: the O’level rule asks for one of them.
- A weak Mathematics grade: a pass meets the brochure rule, but a credit is safer at UNIUYO.
- Treating 150 as an admission score: it is only the minimum to register for screening.
- Making UNIUYO your second choice: the 2026/2027 notice screened 1st-choice candidates only.
- No O’level on CAPS: an offer cannot be completed without it.
- Ignoring the supplementary exercise: UNIUYO has run one in past sessions for candidates who missed their first-choice course.

UNIUYO Sociology and Anthropology cut off mark: frequently asked questions
Is 170 enough for Sociology in UNIUYO? It clears the 150 minimum but is below my 190 target. With strong O’level grades it is possible.

Is UNIUYO Sociology accredited? Yes. NUC gave University of Uyo Sociology full accreditation (93.58%) after a December 2024 visit.
Do I need Mathematics for Sociology at UNIUYO? The brochure asks for at least a pass. I would have a credit, as UNIUYO’s other adverts ask for English and Mathematics credits.
Sources and updates
The 150 minimum, the 1st-choice rule, the Remita payment and the portal steps come from UNIUYO’s 2026/2027 Post-UTME/Direct Entry screening notice on uniuyo.edu.ng (the page carries a reused 2023/2024 web address). Myschool’s reprint of 5 June 2026 also gives 150 and the ₦2,000 fee. The 2023/2024 figure of 140 is from UNIUYO’s 2023/2024 supplementary admission notice, signed by the Registrar, Mrs. Blossom E. Okorie; the 2025/2026 figures are reported by abstechconnect (15 August 2025) and Myschool (18 October 2025). The Basic Studies and Pre-Degree details are from UNIUYO’s 2026/2027 Basic Studies and Pre-Degree advert (May 2026). The national minimum of 150 and the 31 October 2026 deadline for public universities come from the News Agency of Nigeria (11 May 2026).
