UNIUYO Insurance Cut-Off Mark 2027/2028 and Admission Requirements

UNIUYO’s cut-off mark for Insurance is 150 (first choice only). Insurance had spare places in UNIUYO’s 2023/2024 supplementary round. See my safe target of 175, the JAMB subjects, screening and CAPS steps.

The UNIUYO Insurance cut-off mark is 150 in the UTME, the same figure the University of Uyo set for every course in its official 2026/2027 Post-UTME and Direct Entry screening notice. Only candidates who chose UNIUYO as their first choice could apply. UNIUYO does not publish a separate cut-off for Insurance, and the score of the last person admitted is not released, so 150 gets you into screening and no further. My safe target score for Insurance at UNIUYO is 175.

2027/2028 update: UNIUYO cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.

Insurance is the least crowded course in UNIUYO’s Faculty of Management Sciences, and I can show you why: it was the only Management Sciences course UNIUYO still had places in during its 2023/2024 supplementary admission. The department is called Insurance and Risk Management on UNIUYO’s faculty page, while the degree and the JAMB listing say Insurance. Here are the official figures, my safe target, the brochure rules, screening, a worked example and the CAPS steps.

2025/2026150Minimum UTME to apply for screening, first choiceReported by a blog reprint (15 August 2025); original not seen
2023/2024 supplementary140Minimum to move into a course that still had places; Insurance was on the listOfficial UNIUYO supplementary notice (September 2023)

UNIUYO’s screening minimum has been 150 in the last two sessions. In September 2023 the university ran a supplementary exercise for candidates with 140 or more who had missed their first course, and Insurance was on the list of programmes with limited vacancies. Banking and Finance, Accounting, Marketing and Business Management were not. That is the clearest sign I have that Insurance is easier to enter than its sister courses.

Safe target score for Insurance at UNIUYO (my advice)

UNIUYO has not published a departmental figure for Insurance, so the bands below are my own judgement as an admissions adviser. They are not a UNIUYO rule, and you should treat them as planning numbers.

Your UTME scoreMy read for UNIUYO Insurance
Below 150Not eligible for UNIUYO screening
150 to 154Eligible. In a year like 2023/2024 this course still had spare places after the main round
155 to 174Reasonable chance if your O’level grades are clean
175 to 194Good chance. This is the range I would aim for
195 and aboveStrong

For the 2027 UTME I would aim for 175 or more. The supplementary evidence is from 2023/2024 and demand can change, so I would not go into screening at 150 and assume a place. A score in the 170s with credits in English, Mathematics and Economics is a reasonable plan.

UTME subject combination and O’level for UNIUYO Insurance

RequirementInsurance at UNIUYO
UTME subjectsUse of English, Mathematics, Economics, plus one other subject (the second JAMB entry says another social science subject)
O’levelFive credits including English Language, Mathematics and Economics, plus two of Accounting, Business Methods, Commerce, Government, Geography and Statistics (first entry) or two other relevant subjects (second entry)
UNIUYO remarkNone in either entry
SittingsNot stated for UNIUYO; one sitting is safer
Direct EntryTwo A-level passes from Economics, Accounts, Business Management, Government, Geography or Statistics; the second entry says two A-levels including Economics

JAMB’s brochure is the rulebook for subject combinations, and Myschool reprints it. I read the entry for this course on 3 November 2026. Use of English is compulsory for every UTME candidate, so the subjects listed are the other three. Myschool’s UNIUYO list links Insurance to two JAMB entries, one under Administration and one under Social and Management Sciences. Their wording differs slightly, so I have given both in the table.

Both entries agree on the core: Mathematics and Economics in the UTME, and credits in English, Mathematics and Economics at O’level. If you take Government or Geography as your fourth UTME subject, you satisfy both versions. Check the line shown on your JAMB profile when you register.

Direct Entry into Insurance

For DE, one JAMB entry asks for two A-level passes from Economics, Accounts, Business Management, Government, Geography or Statistics; the other asks for two A-levels including Economics. Taking Economics among your A-levels meets both. Neither entry has a UNIUYO remark, and UNIUYO has not said whether it accepts ND or HND for Insurance, though it does for Banking and Finance.

DE candidates used the same UNIUYO portal in 2026/2027, with UNIUYO as first choice on JAMB DE.

How UNIUYO screening works for Insurance applicants

Every UTME and Direct Entry applicant goes through the same UNIUYO screening exercise, whatever the course. This is what the 2026/2027 round looked like.

Admission deadlineJAMB set 31 October 2026 for public universities; that date has now passedJAMB via NAN, 11 May 2026

Because UNIUYO is a public (federal) university, JAMB’s 31 October 2026 deadline for public universities applied to it, and that date has now passed. Supplementary or late admission lists can still show up on JAMB CAPS after the main window, so a 2026 candidate should keep checking CAPS rather than assume the year is over.

Worked example for an Insurance candidate

UNIUYO has not published an aggregate formula or a Post-UTME score scale, so I can’t show you an official calculation. What you can measure is how far your UTME score sits above the 150 minimum and how close it is to a safe target. The names below are made up.

  1. Candidate: Mfon scored 172 with C4 in English, C5 in Mathematics, B3 in Economics, C6 in Commerce and C5 in Geography from two sittings.
  2. Eligibility: 172 minus 150 = 22. Mfon clears UNIUYO’s minimum by 22 marks and can apply.
  3. Against my safe target: 175 minus 172 = 3. Mfon is 3 marks short of my safe target.
  4. O’level check: all five credits fit the line, though two sittings means she should confirm UNIUYO accepts that for Insurance.
  5. My advice: she is close to my target and should keep Insurance as her course. If she misses out, UNIUYO’s supplementary list is the next place to look.

Etim scored 158 with strong grades. 158 minus 150 = 8, so he is eligible but well short of 175. On the 2023/2024 pattern he might still be admitted, but I would tell him to treat it as a chance, not a plan.

Admission odds and advice for UNIUYO Insurance

Insurance is the realistic choice in UNIUYO’s Management Sciences faculty for a candidate scoring in the 160s and 170s. The 2023/2024 supplementary list shows the department had room after the main round, and that tends to repeat when a course has less public demand.

Do not treat Insurance as a lesser degree. Graduates go into underwriting, claims, broking and risk roles in insurers, banks and oil companies, and Nigeria’s insurance sector is regulated by NAICOM, which has pushed firms to recapitalise in recent years. If you like numbers and business, it is a sensible field.

If you scored above 200 and really want finance, apply for Banking and Finance and keep Insurance in mind if UNIUYO offers it on CAPS as an alternative.

There is one more route worth knowing. UNIUYO’s 2026/2027 Basic Studies programme ran for one year, needed no JAMB score, cost ₦15,500 to apply, and used a CBT screening test. Candidates who passed could enter 200 level through JAMB Direct Entry if they met the course rules. The 2026/2027 registration closed on 30 September 2026, but the advert is the clearest picture of how the next round will work. Read it at uniuyo.edu.ng.

How to apply for Insurance at UNIUYO, step by step

  1. Get your JAMB profile code: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN.
  2. Register the UTME correctly: choose Insurance with English, Mathematics, Economics and one other subject, and put UNIUYO as your first choice. UNIUYO’s screening notice was limited to first-choice candidates. If you got this wrong, do a JAMB change of institution before screening opens.
  3. Upload your O’level to CAPS: do it at a JAMB office or accredited centre so the results show on CAPS. Admission cannot be offered without them.
  4. Register for screening: go to admissions.uniuyo.edu.ng, create and verify an account, generate a Remita RRR and pay ₦2,000.
  5. Complete the form: fill in your details, upload the documents as PDF files, and print your Screening Exercise Slip.
  6. Watch CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, choose Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS. If UNIUYO offers you a place, accept it there. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status.
  7. Pay acceptance and clear: UNIUYO has not published its acceptance fee in any official source I reached. Pay only on the UNIUYO portal and keep every receipt for clearance.

Studying Insurance at UNIUYO

UNIUYO’s Faculty of Management Sciences page lists the department as Insurance and Risk Management and the degree as a Bachelor of Science in Insurance (it also groups it as “Banking and Finance/Insurance” in one place). Four years is the usual length for UTME entrants; UNIUYO has not stated it in the sources I read.

Accreditation

None of the NUC accreditation reports I opened for UNIUYO was for Insurance, and the NUC’s master results PDF could not be read as far as UNIUYO. Its NUC status is not confirmed here, so ask the department before accepting. Professional bodies such as the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria do not accredit university degrees on their own under NUC rules.

What you study

  • First year: economics, business mathematics, introduction to insurance, accounting and general studies.
  • Middle years: principles and practice of insurance, life and non-life insurance, insurance law, risk management, statistics for insurance.
  • Later years: underwriting, claims management, reinsurance, actuarial basics, marine and aviation insurance, research project.
  • Practical work: industrial attachment with an insurer or broker is common.

  • Risk management roles in banks, oil and gas and manufacturing firms
  • Pension and investment firms
  • Professional study with the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria after graduation

If you want to switch to Insurance after registering another course, our JAMB change of course guide shows how.

Mistakes that cost Insurance applicants a UNIUYO place

  • Skipping Economics: both JAMB entries need it in the UTME and at O’level.
  • Ignoring the supplementary list: Insurance has appeared on it before, so watch the UNIUYO portal after the main list.
  • Putting UNIUYO second: the 2026/2027 screening notice only admitted first-choice candidates to the exercise.
  • Reading 150 as an admission score: it is the minimum to apply. Merit decides who gets in.
  • Leaving O’level off CAPS: an offer can’t be made until your results are there.
  • Paying agents for “slots”: genuine UNIUYO offers appear on JAMB CAPS, and payments go through the portal’s Remita RRR.

If you are planning for the 2027 UTME, read when JAMB 2027 registration starts, and after the exam use our guide on how to check your JAMB result.

UNIUYO Insurance cut-off mark: frequently asked questions

Is 160 enough for Insurance in UNIUYO? 160 clears the 150 minimum, and Insurance had spare places in UNIUYO’s 2023/2024 supplementary round, so it is possible. I would still aim for 175 to be comfortable.

What is the UTME subject combination for Insurance at UNIUYO? Use of English, Mathematics, Economics and one other subject. Government or Geography fits both versions of the JAMB entry.

Does UNIUYO offer Insurance in its supplementary admission? It did in 2023/2024, when Insurance was the only Management Sciences course on the supplementary list. UNIUYO decides the list each year.

Is Insurance the same department as Banking and Finance at UNIUYO? UNIUYO’s faculty page lists Insurance and Risk Management as its own department, though one line groups the degrees as Banking and Finance/Insurance. They are separate courses on JAMB’s list.

The department name is from UNIUYO’s Faculty of Management Sciences page. I found no NUC report for this programme. The safe target score and the worked example are my advice. Checked on 3 November 2026; this page will be updated if UNIUYO publishes a departmental cut-off for Insurance or a 2027/2028 notice.
