There is no published COE Hong Christian Religious Studies cut off mark for 2027/2028, and for 2026/2027 you did not need a UTME score at all. Adamawa State College of Education, Hong admits into NCE Christian Religious Studies (CRS) in five pairings, and in May 2026 the Federal Government exempted NCE candidates with at least four O’level credit passes from the UTME. You still register with JAMB, and your admission still has to pass through JAMB CAPS. For CRS, your credits in English and Christian Religious Studies are the results that matter most.
2027/2028 update: COE Hong admission requirements and the JAMB entry rules for NCE usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the position on this page is what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. It comes from the latest official position (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 rules change anything, we will update this page.
Adamawa State College of Education, Hong (COE Hong, sometimes written ADSCOEH) has not published a cut-off mark, a departmental minimum or a screening score for Christian Religious Studies in any notice I could find. I found no official college website or admission portal, and no 2025/2026 or 2026/2027 admission advert from it. So this page sticks to what is official: the national rules from JAMB and the Federal Ministry of Education, the course list JAMB carries for the college, and the registration steps JAMB set out for NCE in 2026. Where I give advice, such as a safe O’level target, I label it as mine.
JAMB’s course list for COE Hong carries CRS as five pairings: CRS/English, CRS/French, CRS/Hausa, CRS/History and CRS/Social Studies. I found no notice suspending any of them, but I also found no 2026/2027 advert that names the combinations admitting this year, so confirm your exact pairing with the college before you pay for anything.

COE Hong Christian Religious Studies cut off mark: cut-off history
| Session | Figure | What it is | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2026/2027 | No UTME needed | NCE candidates with at least four credit passes exempted from UTME; JAMB registration and CAPS still required | Official federal policy (11 May 2026) |
| 2026/2027 | Not published | COE Hong’s own minimum for Christian Religious Studies | No COE Hong figure found |
| 2025/2026 | 100 | JAMB national minimum UTME score for colleges of education | Official (Nairametrics report of the July 2025 policy meeting) |
| 2025/2026 | Not published | COE Hong’s own minimum for Christian Religious Studies | No COE Hong figure found |
If a blog quotes a single “COE Hong cut-off mark” for every course, ask where it came from. The only official figure, 100, was JAMB’s national floor for all colleges of education in 2025/2026. I found no COE Hong document that sets a separate figure for Christian Religious Studies. For 2026/2027 that floor stopped mattering for NCE candidates who use the no-UTME route, because there is no UTME score to compare.
Do you need JAMB or UTME for Christian Religious Studies at COE Hong?
You need JAMB. You no longer need the UTME, as long as you have at least four O’level credit passes. Three official statements set this out in 2026:
- 11 May 2026: at JAMB’s 2026 policy meeting, the Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, said NCE candidates with a minimum of four credit passes will no longer sit the UTME. They must still register with JAMB, and their results are verified through CAPS before admission letters are issued.
- June 2026: JAMB published its NCE registration guide. It also says no 100 level or 200 level degree admission into any college of education is allowed from 2026/2027, including affiliated degree programmes. Everyone entering a college of education now enters through NCE.
- 23 July 2026: JAMB announced that NCE registration without UTME had opened at Institutional Professional Registration Centres (IPRCs) in colleges of education and at JAMB Professional Registration Centres nationwide.
One report muddied the timing. Nairametrics wrote on 11 May 2026 that the exemption would start from the 2027 admission cycle, while JAMB’s own June 2026 guide and the July 2026 registration opening show it already applied to the 2026/2027 intake. For a 2027/2028 candidate the two readings land in the same place: no UTME for NCE, provided you have the four credits and you register with JAMB.
What the JAMB NCE registration costs
| Item | Amount | Who pays it |
|---|---|---|
| O’level verification code, one sitting | ₦1,500 | Every NCE applicant (paid to the exam body) |
| O’level verification code, two sittings | ₦2,000 | Applicants combining two results |
| JAMB NCE application fee | ₦3,500 | New NCE applicants who did not register for the UTME |
| CBT or IPRC registration charge | ₦700 | Every NCE applicant |
| Conversion of a UTME application to NCE | ₦700 only | UTME candidates whose first choice is a college of education |
These are the 2026/2027 amounts in JAMB’s guide. The 2027/2028 guide may change them, so confirm the figure at the centre before you pay.
Safe target for Christian Religious Studies at COE Hong (my advice)
This is my judgement as an admissions adviser. COE Hong has not published any ranking rule.
With no UTME score in the NCE route, the college can only compare applicants on their O’level results. Your grades in English and in Christian Religious Studies and your partner subject carry the weight a UTME score used to carry. This is how I would read your chances:
| Your O’level position | My read for COE Hong Christian Religious Studies |
|---|---|
| Fewer than four credits | Not eligible for the no-UTME route; resit WAEC, NECO or NABTEB first |
| Four credits, but no credit in CRS | Weak; you lack the subject the course is built on |
| Five credits including English, CRS and your partner subject, one or two sittings | Meets the usual college of education standard |
| Five or more credits with B grades in CRS and the partner subject, one sitting | Strong. This is what I would aim for. |
If you are also writing the 2027 UTME to keep a university option open, aim for at least 150, the 2026 national minimum for universities. That score is for the university route only. Under the 2026 rules your COE Hong NCE admission does not depend on it.
UTME subject combination and O’level requirements for Christian Religious Studies at COE Hong
| Requirement | Christian Religious Studies at COE Hong |
|---|---|
| UTME | Not required for NCE candidates with at least four credits (2026/2027 rule) |
| UTME subjects (only if you register for UTME) | Use of English, Christian Religious Studies and two other arts or social science subjects, such as Literature in English, Government, History or Hausa (JAMB’s usual combination; confirm on the JAMB e-brochure) |
| O’level (COE Hong’s own rule) | Not published by the college in any source reached |
| O’level (usual college of education rule) | Five credits at no more than two sittings, including English Language, Christian Religious Studies and the subject you pair with it; many colleges also want at least a pass in Mathematics (general NCCE practice; not confirmed on a COE Hong notice) |
| O’level (2026 federal exemption) | At least four credit passes to be exempted from UTME (subjects not specified) |
| Exams accepted by JAMB | WAEC, NECO, NABTEB and NBAIS results, verified with a code from the exam body |
| Awaiting results | JAMB will not let a college propose a candidate marked Awaiting Results until the result is uploaded |
| Direct Entry | No 100 or 200 level entry into any college of education from 2026/2027 (JAMB). NCE is the only entry |
Look at the gap between the two O’level rows. The federal exemption speaks of four credits, while colleges of education have usually asked for five. Until COE Hong publishes its own requirement, I would apply with five credits including English and Christian Religious Studies, so neither rule can be used against you.
CRS combinations JAMB lists for COE Hong
Every CRS place at COE Hong is paired with a second subject, so that subject decides part of your O’level check. Pick the pairing your results already support:
- CRS/English: needs a strong English credit; the usual choice if you want to teach English as well.
- CRS/French: you will need a French credit or a good French background; few schools in the area teach it, so check yours.
- CRS/Hausa: suits candidates with an O’level credit in Hausa; widely useful in northern primary and junior secondary schools.
- CRS/History: a natural fit if you took History or Government at O’level.
- CRS/Social Studies: the widest teaching market, because Social Studies is taught in every junior secondary school.
How COE Hong screening and admission works for Christian Religious Studies
COE Hong has not published a screening test, a screening fee or screening dates for 2025/2026 or 2026/2027 in any source I reached. A blog that covers the college’s admission list gives only general advice to check the portal and CAPS, and I could not find an official college portal address to give you. Treat any form price you see on a blog or a WhatsApp flyer as unconfirmed until the college itself publishes it.
What is official is JAMB’s part. Under its 2026 NCE guide, the college’s Admission Officer proposes candidates on CAPS, the Provost recommends them, and JAMB checks each candidate’s O’level through the verification code against the exam body’s own records before the offer shows on CAPS. A candidate recommended for NCE has any UTME process suspended.
Worked example for a Christian Religious Studies applicant (illustrative)
COE Hong has not published an aggregate formula, so there is nothing to multiply. What you can do is test your result against both O’level rules and JAMB’s process. This example is illustrative.
Esther has one WAEC sitting: English C5, Christian Religious Studies B3, Government C4, Literature in English C6, Mathematics D7, Hausa B2 and Biology E8. She wants CRS/Hausa.
- Credit count: English, CRS, Government, Literature and Hausa are credits. Five credits clears the four-credit federal rule.
- Five-credit check: English is in, but Mathematics is only a pass. That is fine for most arts NCE courses, but ask the college whether it needs a Mathematics credit.
- Subject check: B3 in CRS and B2 in Hausa cover both sides of her pairing.
- Process: a one-sitting WAEC verification code (₦1,500), IPRC registration with COE Hong as first choice (₦3,500 plus ₦700), then CAPS.
Yohanna registered for the UTME with COE Hong as his first choice for CRS/History and scored 118. Under JAMB’s 2026 NCE guide, a UTME candidate whose first choice is a college of education is migrated to NCE. He updates his profile with his O’level verification code and pays ₦700. His 118 does not decide his admission; his credits in English, CRS and History do.
Your chances of admission into Christian Religious Studies at COE Hong
COE Hong does not publish applicant numbers for CRS. In my judgement, a candidate with credits in English and CRS, a credit in the partner subject and two other credits is well placed. CRS applicants who miss out usually registered late, chose a pairing without the matching O’level credit, or listed another institution first.
- Make COE Hong your first choice. JAMB sends each NCE registration to the first-choice college.
- Get the verification code right. CAPS compares it with the exam body’s record, and a mismatch stops the process.
- Do not register as Awaiting Results unless you must. You cannot be proposed until the result is uploaded.
- Keep checking CAPS. The offer appears there, and it is not valid until you accept it.
How to apply for Christian Religious Studies at COE Hong, step by step
- Get your JAMB profile code: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN.
- Buy your O’level verification code: from WAEC, NECO, NABTEB or NBAIS. JAMB lists ₦1,500 for one sitting and ₦2,000 for two. Note your exam year, exam number and subjects.
- Register for NCE at a JAMB centre or IPRC: log in to your e-Facility profile with the profile code, select NCE registration, pay ₦3,500 plus the ₦700 centre charge, and choose College of Education, Hong as your first choice with the CRS combination you want. Your biometrics are captured and you get a registration slip.
- Upload your O’level: enter your results and the verification code at the centre. These are the results CAPS will check.
- Already registered for the UTME? If a college of education was your first choice, JAMB migrates your application. You update your profile with the verification code and pay ₦700 only.
- Complete COE Hong’s own form if the college asks for one: the college has not published a 2026/2027 portal or form price in any source I reached. Confirm at the admissions office in Hong before paying anyone.
- Accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, open Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS. Accept the offer and print your JAMB admission letter. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status.
- Pay the acceptance fee and register: COE Hong has not published its acceptance or school fees in any official source I reached. Pay only through the channel the college gives on its admission letter or notice board.
JAMB set 31 December 2026 as the 2026/2027 admission deadline for colleges of education, and that window runs until 31 December 2026. A 2027/2028 deadline will come with the 2027 policy meeting.
Warning
The Federal Government has said that any admission done outside JAMB CAPS is illegal and will not be recognised. If someone offers you a place that does not show on CAPS, or asks for money to “process” one, walk away.
Studying NCE Christian Religious Studies at COE Hong
COE Hong is a state-owned college of education at Hong in Adamawa State. It began as the Advanced Teachers College, Hong, and its first session started in January 1983 (Wikipedia gives two different founding years, so I leave the exact year out). Wikipedia names its schools as Education, Humanities, Languages, and Pure and Applied Sciences. The college has not said which school runs CRS; it fits the Humanities school on that list, but that is my grouping, not the college’s. The NCE normally takes three years full time; the college has not stated the duration on any page I reached.
What you study
- CRS content: Old and New Testament studies, the life and teachings of Jesus, the early church, church history in Africa and Nigeria, Christian ethics and comparative religion.
- Your second teaching subject: studied alongside CRS for three years.
- Education courses: educational psychology, curriculum studies and methods of teaching CRS in primary and junior secondary schools.
- General studies: Use of English, computer literacy and other compulsory courses.
- Teaching practice: supervised teaching in a school, usually in the final year.
Accreditation
NCE programmes are regulated by the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE). NCCE’s list of accredited colleges lists the college as open, under the name “College of Education, Hong (Adamawa State College of Education)”. I did not confirm the NCCE status of the Christian Religious Studies programme itself, so I am not claiming it. Ask the college for the current programme status before you accept an offer.
Careers and further study
- Teaching: CRS in primary and junior secondary schools; the NCE is Nigeria’s minimum teaching qualification.
- Registration: with the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN).
- Other work: church education and youth ministry, mission school administration and faith-based NGOs.
- Degree later: NCE holders can go on to a B.Ed or B.A (Ed) at a university. Wikipedia says COE Hong has run B.Ed programmes in affiliation with Ahmadu Bello University and Taraba State University, but JAMB stopped new affiliated degree admissions into colleges of education from 2026/2027, so plan to take the degree at a university.

Mistakes that cost Christian Religious Studies applicants a COE Hong place
- Applying with no O’level credit in CRS: church involvement helps your interest, but the college will look for the credit.
- Choosing a pairing without the matching credit: CRS/French without French, or CRS/Hausa without Hausa, is a common reason for a weak application.
- Waiting for a UTME score: under the 2026 rules NCE candidates with four credits do not need one, and waiting can mean missing the admission window.
- Paying for a form from an unverified link: COE Hong has not published a portal in any source I reached. Confirm with the college first.
- Accepting on CAPS and doing nothing else: the acceptance fee and registration at the college are separate steps.
COE Hong Christian Religious Studies cut off mark: frequently asked questions
Does COE Hong offer Christian Religious Studies? Yes. JAMB’s list for the college carries five CRS pairings: with English, French, Hausa, History and Social Studies. Confirm the pairing you want is admitting this session.
What is the cut-off mark for CRS in COE Hong? COE Hong has not published one. NCE candidates with at least four O’level credits were exempted from the UTME for 2026/2027; the 2025/2026 national minimum for colleges of education was 100.
Can I study CRS at COE Hong without a credit in Mathematics? No COE Hong rule I found demands it, and many colleges accept a pass in Mathematics for arts NCE courses. Ask the college before you register, because some do ask for the credit.
I wrote UTME with COE Hong as first choice. Do I register again for NCE? No. JAMB’s 2026 guide says UTME candidates with a college of education as first choice are migrated to NCE; you update your profile with the O’level verification code and pay ₦700.
Sources and updates
The UTME exemption for NCE candidates with four credit passes, the JAMB registration and CAPS requirement, the 31 December 2026 deadline for colleges of education and the warning that admissions outside CAPS are illegal come from the News Agency of Nigeria report of 11 May 2026 on JAMB’s 2026 policy meeting, also reported by TheNigeriaLawyer the same day. The fees, verification code, IPRC registration, CAPS proposal and recommendation, Awaiting Results rule, UTME conversion and the end of degree admissions into colleges of education come from JAMB’s 2026 NCE and ND registration guide. The opening of NCE registration without UTME is from Nairametrics (23 July 2026). The 2025/2026 national minimum of 100 for colleges of education is from Nairametrics, 8 July 2025. The CRS combinations at COE Hong come from Myschool’s reprint of JAMB’s course list for the college, and the college’s status from NCCE’s list of accredited colleges (both checked on 3 November 2026). The college’s history and school names are from Wikipedia. UTME subjects are JAMB’s usual combination and the five-credit rule is general college of education practice; neither was confirmed on a COE Hong notice. COE Hong’s own cut-off, screening details and fees were not published in any source reached. Checked on 3 November 2026; this page will be updated when COE Hong or JAMB publishes the 2027/2028 position.
