Adamawa State College of Health Technology, Michika admission requirements for Community Health, as last reported, are four O’level passes including English, Mathematics and two sciences for the certificate courses, the college’s own form (₦6,500 in 2024/2025) and its entrance exam. Reports from 2024 list a two-year Junior Community Health Extension Worker (JCHEW) certificate and a six-month abridged Community Health Extension Worker (CHEW) course. I could not confirm approval by the Community Health Practitioners Registration Board of Nigeria (CHPRBN).
2027/2028 update: Adamawa State College of Health Technology, Michika admission requirements and its entrance exam process usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the position on this page is what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. The most recent details available are from the 2024/2025 form reported in 2024. If the college publishes a newer notice, we will update this page.
Please read this before you rely on anything below. Everything I could find about the college’s admissions comes from blog reprints written in 2024, not from an official notice. I found no college website, no 2025/2026 or 2026/2027 advert, and no record from the professional councils that approve health courses. The college is also not on the Nursing and Midwifery Council’s December 2025 list of approved schools. So this page tells you what was reported, labels it, and lists what you must confirm with the college before paying.

Is Community Health (CHEW and JCHEW) at Michika approved?
Community health extension workers are registered by CHPRBN, which also approves the schools that train them. I found no CHPRBN record naming the Michika college. The programmes appear in both 2024 blog lists, but I could not confirm current approval.
- Ask for the approval letter: the council letter or certificate naming the college and the programme, with its date.
- Check the council yourself: CHPRBN accredits community health training schools; ask the board whether the Michika college is approved for JCHEW and CHEW.
- Ask about NBTE: National Diploma programmes are normally accredited by NBTE as well as the professional council.
- Ask about indexing and licensing: students on approved programmes are usually indexed by the council early in the course; ask when that happens and how much it costs.
I am not saying the programme is unapproved. I am saying I could not confirm its approval, and with health courses that matters more than anything else on this page.
Community Health (CHEW and JCHEW) admission requirements (reported)
The only published requirements are from a 2024 blog reprint of the college’s advert. They are general to the college, not specific to Community Health (CHEW and JCHEW):
- Diploma, ND and HND courses: five credits in basic science subjects in WAEC, NECO or GCE, at not more than two sittings.
- Certificate courses: four passes including English, Mathematics and two sciences (Biology, Chemistry or Health Science), with Grade II and NABTEB results also mentioned.
- Experience entry: the blog says some certificate holders with one year of experience may enter at 200 level.
What I would present (my advice)
| Your O’level position | My read for Community Health (CHEW and JCHEW) |
|---|---|
| Fewer than four passes | Short of the reported certificate rule |
| Four passes without English or Mathematics | Risky; both are named in the reported rule |
| Four passes including English, Mathematics, Biology and another science | Meets the reported certificate rule |
| Five credits including English, Mathematics, Biology and Chemistry | Strong. This is what I would aim for. |
Notice that the reported certificate rule asks for passes, not credits. Credits still make you more competitive and help if you later want an ND or a degree, so aim for them. The abridged CHEW course is usually for people who already hold JCHEW and have work experience; ask the college exactly who qualifies.
Do you need JAMB for Community Health (CHEW and JCHEW) at Michika?
No source mentions JAMB for this college, and I could not confirm whether JAMB lists it. Many state colleges of health technology have admitted through their own forms and entrance exams, but JAMB now expects National Diploma admissions to pass through CAPS, and the Federal Government said in May 2026 that admissions outside CAPS are illegal. My advice:
- For an ND: ask the college whether you must choose it on JAMB. If yes, register for the UTME and score at least 100, JAMB’s 2026/2027 minimum for polytechnics and monotechnics.
- For a certificate course: JAMB does not normally handle certificate admissions, but ask the college what it requires.
- Keep a UTME option open: if you can, register for the 2027 UTME with English, Biology, Chemistry and Physics. It keeps other colleges and universities open to you.
Entrance exam and screening
The college has not published the exam format, date or pass mark in any source I reached. Colleges of health technology usually set an objective test in English, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and general knowledge, then an interview. Prepare for that pattern, but treat it as my guidance.
Worked example (illustrative)
Saratu has one NECO sitting with passes in English (D7), Mathematics (C6), Biology (C5), Health Science (C4) and Civic Education (C6). She wants JCHEW.
- O’level check: passes in English, Mathematics and two sciences (Biology and Health Science) meet the reported certificate rule.
- Approval check: she asks the college for its CHPRBN approval before paying.
- Course check: she confirms JCHEW (two years) is the right entry, since the abridged CHEW course is a shorter top-up.
- Exam preparation: English, Mathematics, Biology and general knowledge.
How to apply for Community Health (CHEW and JCHEW) at Michika, step by step
- Confirm the course is running and approved: visit or call the college in Michika and ask for the current notice and the CHPRBN approval letter.
- Ask whether JAMB is required: if it is, register for the UTME and make the college your choice. Get your JAMB profile code by sending NIN, a space and your NIN to 55019 or 66019.
- Generate the payment invoice only from the college’s portal: the 2024 blog named ascoht.admissions.cloud and Remita. Confirm the address with the college before you pay, because I could not open it.
- Fill the form and upload documents: O’level result, birth certificate, certificate of origin and passport photographs are the usual set.
- Print your form and exam slip: take them to the exam with your payment receipt.
- Sit the entrance exam and interview.
- Check the admission list and, if JAMB applies, accept on CAPS: our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status.
- Pay acceptance and register: only through the channel on your admission letter.
Warning
Before you pay for any Michika form, get the professional council approval for your programme in writing. A health certificate from an unapproved programme may not lead to a licence or a government job.
Studying Community Health (CHEW and JCHEW)
Community health workers staff primary health care centres: immunisation, antenatal and child health, health education, first aid and simple treatment under standing orders. JCHEW is the entry certificate; CHEW is the higher level.
What you study
- Primary health care: the structure of PHC and the role of the community health worker.
- Maternal and child health: antenatal care, immunisation and child growth monitoring.
- Disease control: malaria, diarrhoea, tuberculosis and other common conditions.
- Health education and nutrition: community talks, home visits and nutrition advice.
- Field practice: postings to health centres and communities.
Careers and licensing
- Primary health care centres: under local government and state PHC agencies.
- Programmes: immunisation, maternal health and outbreak response projects.
- NGOs: community health and outreach work.
- Licensing: practice needs CHPRBN registration, which needs an approved school.
Approved alternatives to consider
- Adamawa State College of Nursing Sciences Community Nursing and Midwifery (NMCN-approved)
- Adamawa State College of Nursing Sciences ND Nursing
- MAU Yola Nursing Science (degree)
See all the courses reported for the college in our College of Health Technology Michika admission guide.
Mistakes Community Health (CHEW and JCHEW) applicants make
- Not checking CHPRBN approval: without it you may not be registered as a community health worker.
- Trusting a blog date: the last sale dates I found are from 2024. Get the current dates from the college.
- Confusing Michika colleges: Tikos and Kings College and Royal Intellect College, both in Michika, are private colleges that Adamawa State ordered to remain closed in October 2025. They are not this state college.
- Paying an agent for “admission”: pay only the college, through its own invoice.
