AKSCOE Admission Requirements 2027/2028: NCE Courses and Cut-Off

Akwa Ibom State College of Education admits NCE students through JAMB CAPS, and applicants with four O’level credits no longer sit the UTME. See all 51 NCE course names, the cut-off history, the end of UniUyo degree intake and how to apply for 2027/2028.

AKSCOE admission requirements for 2027/2028 come down to your O’level and JAMB registration. Akwa Ibom State College of Education, Afaha Nsit, admits NCE students through JAMB CAPS, and under the 2026 rules an NCE applicant with at least four O’level credits does not need a UTME score. The college has not published a 2026/2027 notice or any cut-off for a single course, but JAMB’s list for AKSCOE has 51 NCE course names, and older college notices asked for five credits including English and Mathematics.

2027/2028 update: AKSCOE admission requirements and JAMB’s entry rules for NCE usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the position on this page is what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. It is based on the 2026/2027 national NCE rules from JAMB and the Ministry of Education, because AKSCOE has not published its own notice. If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.

This page draws on the college’s website, NCCE’s list, JAMB’s course list for AKSCOE and the college’s 2022/2023 screening notice. Figures that come only from admissions sites are marked unverified. Degree admission through the University of Uyo affiliation has ended for new students under JAMB’s 2026 rules, which I explain below.

About Akwa Ibom State College of Education

AKSCOE was established on 10 January 1991, the first tertiary institution set up by the Akwa Ibom State Government. It is at Afaha Nsit and is owned by the state. NCCE lists it as entry 13 among the colleges of education (spelt “Afahansit”), marked open. The college’s website describes five schools: Languages, Vocational and Technical Education, Science, Arts and Social Science, and Primary Education.

At its matriculation on 11 November 2020, its 29th for NCE and second for degree students, the college admitted 1,482 students: 1,032 NCE and 450 degree. It said an NCCE and NUC visit had given it full institutional accreditation and full accreditation in 23 academic programmes, with some others partial.

NCE courses offered at AKSCOE

JAMB’s list for AKSCOE has 51 course names. I have grouped them by subject area below; the grouping is mine, not the college’s. “DM” means double major.

Entries to check before you choose them

  • “Islamic Studies/Arabic (English)” is unusual for this college and may be a leftover in JAMB’s catalogue. Confirm the college is admitting into it.
  • “Teacher Education Science” has no clear meaning on the list; ask the School of Science what it is.
  • The college has a School of Primary Education, but no Primary Education Studies course appears on JAMB’s list.

Undated120 (NCE)One admissions site says AKSCOE asks NCE applicants for 120 and degree applicants for 180; the text is recycled from an older yearUnverified

The 120 figure keeps appearing on admissions sites, but the page that carries it reuses old text, and the college’s own 2022/2023 notice used 100. With NCE applicants now exempt from the UTME, neither number decides a 2027/2028 NCE application. Your O’level does. These are the official steps that removed the UTME for NCE applicants:

  • 11 May 2026: at JAMB’s policy meeting, the Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, said NCE candidates with a minimum of four credit passes would no longer sit the UTME. They still register with JAMB, and CAPS verifies their results before any admission letter is issued. Admissions done outside CAPS were declared illegal.
  • June 2026: JAMB’s NCE registration guide set the fees and said there would be no 100 level or 200 level degree admission into any college of education from 2026/2027, affiliated degrees included.
  • 23 July 2026: JAMB opened NCE registration without UTME at Institutional Professional Registration Centres (IPRCs) in colleges of education and at JAMB centres.
  • Start date: Nairametrics reported on 11 May 2026 that the exemption would start with the 2027 admission cycle, while JAMB’s June guide shows it already working in 2026. Either way, a 2027/2028 NCE applicant registers with JAMB and does not need the UTME.

O’level requirements and JAMB NCE fees

JAMB’s exemption line is four credits, while the older AKSCOE requirement reported online is five, including English and Mathematics. Until the college publishes its 2026/2027 rule, apply with five credits that include English Language, Mathematics and both subjects of your pairing, so that neither rule can be used against you.

AreaCredits I would bring (advice)
LanguagesEnglish Language, Mathematics, Literature in English and your partner subject
Arts and Social ScienceEnglish Language, Mathematics and both subjects of your pairing
Sciences and computingMathematics, English and the two sciences in your pairing
Vocational and TechnicalMathematics, English and subjects linked to the course (for example Commerce for Business Education, Agricultural Science for Agriculture, Technical Drawing for Technical Education)
Early childhood, adult and physical educationEnglish, Mathematics and three others; Biology helps for Physical and Health Education

How to apply to AKSCOE, step by step

  1. Get your JAMB profile code: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN.
  2. Buy your O’level verification code: from WAEC, NECO, NABTEB or NBAIS, for one or two sittings.
  3. Register for NCE at an IPRC or JAMB centre: pay ₦3,500 plus ₦700 and choose Akwa Ibom State College of Education as first choice, with the exact course name from JAMB’s list.
  4. Upload your O’level: enter your results and verification code so they reach CAPS. Awaiting Results candidates cannot be proposed until their results are uploaded.
  5. UTME candidates: if your first choice was a college of education, JAMB moves you to NCE for ₦700.
  6. Complete the college’s screening if it runs one: admissions sites name a screening portal and a bank account for AKSCOE, but I could not confirm either on a college document. Get the official link and fee from akscoe.edu.ng or the admissions office at Afaha Nsit, and use the same names and results as on your JAMB profile.
  7. Accept on CAPS: on efacility.jamb.gov.ng, open Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS, accept and print your admission letter. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status.
  8. Pay acceptance and register at the college: the amounts are not published online, so get them in writing.

Warning

Any admission done outside JAMB CAPS is illegal, the Federal Government said in May 2026. Be careful with adverts that ask you to pay screening money into an account named only on a blog; get payment details from the college itself.

AKSCOE degree programmes and the University of Uyo

AKSCOE has run degree programmes in affiliation with the University of Uyo; its 2020 matriculation admitted 1,032 NCE and 450 degree students. JAMB’s June 2026 guide ended new 100 level and 200 level degree admissions into colleges of education, affiliated degrees included, so from 2026/2027 the college admits for the NCE. Plan your degree at a university after the NCE. Admissions sites still list AKSCOE B.Ed and B.Sc (Ed) courses and a degree cut-off of 180; those pages reuse old text and do not reflect JAMB’s 2026 rule. For the 2022/2023 exercise, the college asked degree applicants for the university cut-off mark and Direct Entry applicants for a CGPA of 2.50.

If you want a degree in education, the most direct route is a university such as the University of Uyo itself. See our University of Uyo English Education guide and University of Uyo Mathematics Education guide.

Your chances and my advice

AKSCOE does not publish intake numbers, but its 2020 matriculation shows it takes over a thousand NCE students in a year. That is a large intake, and it means most well-prepared candidates have a real chance.

  • Bring five credits: English, Mathematics and both subjects of your pairing, at one sitting if you can.
  • Use the exact course name: JAMB’s list has close pairs such as English/Ibibio and Ibibio/English; pick the one you mean.
  • Register early: JAMB set 31 December 2026 as the 2026/2027 deadline for colleges of education.
  • Keep a university option if you want one: if you also sit the 2027 UTME, 150 was the 2026 university minimum. See how to check your JAMB result.

AKSCOE admission requirements: frequently asked questions

What is the cut off mark for AKSCOE? The college has not published one for 2026/2027. Its 2022/2023 NCE screening used 100, and from 2026/2027 NCE applicants with four credits do not need the UTME at all.

Does AKSCOE still offer degree programmes? Not for new students. JAMB’s June 2026 guide ended 100 level and 200 level degree admissions into colleges of education, including affiliated degrees such as AKSCOE’s with the University of Uyo.

Can I use awaiting result for AKSCOE admission? You can register, but JAMB says a college cannot propose you on CAPS until your result is uploaded.

Is Akwa Ibom State College of Education accredited? NCCE lists it as a state college of education in Akwa Ibom, marked open, and the college reported full institutional accreditation in 2020. Ask about your own course’s status.
