AKSCOE Economics Education Cut-Off Mark 2027/2028: Requirements

Akwa Ibom State College of Education has not published a cut-off mark for NCE Economics Education, and applicants with four O’level credits no longer sit the UTME. See the seven Economics pairings, O’level rules, JAMB fees and how to apply for 2027/2028.

AKSCOE has no published cut off mark for Economics Education for 2027/2028, and an NCE applicant with at least four O’level credits no longer needs a UTME score. JAMB’s list for Akwa Ibom State College of Education pairs Economics with English, French, Mathematics, Political Science and Social Studies, and with Computer Education and Computer Science. You still register with JAMB and receive your offer on CAPS, and your Economics and Mathematics grades will do most of the work.

2027/2028 update: AKSCOE admission requirements and JAMB’s entry rules for NCE usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the position on this page is what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. It is based on the 2026/2027 national NCE rules from JAMB and the Ministry of Education, because AKSCOE has not published its own notice. If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.

Akwa Ibom State College of Education (AKSCOE), Afaha Nsit, is a state-owned college set up on 10 January 1991, the first tertiary institution created by the Akwa Ibom State Government. NCCE lists it among the colleges of education as a state college in Akwa Ibom, marked open. The college has not published a 2026/2027 admission notice that I could find, and no notice of any year gives a cut-off for a single course, so what follows rests on JAMB’s rules, JAMB’s course list for the college, the college’s 2022/2023 screening notice and its own website. My advice is labelled as advice.

Undated120 (NCE)One admissions site says AKSCOE asks NCE applicants for 120 and degree applicants for 180; the text is recycled from an older yearUnverified

The 120 figure keeps appearing on admissions sites, but the page that carries it reuses old text, and the college’s own 2022/2023 notice used 100. With NCE applicants now exempt from the UTME, neither number decides a 2027/2028 NCE application. Your O’level does.

Do you need JAMB or UTME for Economics Education at AKSCOE?

You need JAMB. You do not need a UTME score if you hold at least four O’level credit passes. These are the official steps behind that answer:

  • 11 May 2026: at JAMB’s policy meeting, the Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, said NCE candidates with a minimum of four credit passes would no longer sit the UTME. They still register with JAMB, and CAPS verifies their results before any admission letter is issued. Admissions done outside CAPS were declared illegal.
  • June 2026: JAMB’s NCE registration guide set the fees and said there would be no 100 level or 200 level degree admission into any college of education from 2026/2027, affiliated degrees included.
  • 23 July 2026: JAMB opened NCE registration without UTME at Institutional Professional Registration Centres (IPRCs) in colleges of education and at JAMB centres.
  • Start date: Nairametrics reported on 11 May 2026 that the exemption would start with the 2027 admission cycle, while JAMB’s June guide shows it already working in 2026. Either way, a 2027/2028 NCE applicant registers with JAMB and does not need the UTME.

What JAMB charges for NCE registration

What you payAmount (2026/2027)Who pays it
O’level verification code, one sitting₦1,500Every NCE applicant, bought from the exam body
O’level verification code, two sittings₦2,000Applicants combining two results
JAMB NCE application₦3,500New NCE applicants who did not register for the UTME
Centre or IPRC charge₦700Every NCE applicant
Moving a 2026 UTME registration to NCE₦700 onlyUTME candidates whose first choice was a college of education

These are JAMB’s 2026/2027 amounts. Check them at the centre before you pay, because the 2027/2028 guide may change them.

Safe target for Economics Education at AKSCOE (my advice)

This is my own reading as an admissions adviser. AKSCOE has not published how it ranks applicants. Without a UTME score, a college can only compare people on their O’level results, so your grades in Economics, Mathematics and English Language now do the work a UTME score used to do.

Your O’level positionMy read for Economics Education at AKSCOE
Fewer than four creditsNot eligible for the no-UTME route; resit first
Four credits including English, no credit in EconomicsWeak; Economics is the course
Five credits including English Language, Mathematics, Economics and your partner subjectMeets the usual standard for every Economics pairing
Five or more credits at one sitting, with a B grade in Economics and in MathematicsStrong. This is what I would aim for.

If you also plan to write the 2027 UTME to keep a university option open, aim for 150 or more, the 2026 university minimum. That score is for the university option only; it does not change your NCE application.

UTME subject combination and O’level requirements for Economics Education at AKSCOE

RequirementEconomics Education at AKSCOE
UTMENot needed for NCE applicants with at least four credit passes (2026 policy)
UTME subjects (only if you register for the UTME)Use of English, Economics, Mathematics and one other Social Science subject such as Government or Geography. This is JAMB’s usual pattern; confirm on the JAMB e-brochure.
O’level (the college’s own rule)No 2026/2027 notice found. Admissions sites quoting older notices say five credits including English Language and Mathematics, at no more than two sittings (WAEC, NECO or NABTEB)
O’level I would bringFive credits including English Language, Mathematics, Economics and your partner subject
Results JAMB acceptsWAEC, NECO, NABTEB and NBAIS, checked with a verification code from the exam body
Awaiting resultsA college cannot propose you on CAPS until your result is uploaded
Direct Entry or degree entryNone into any college of education from 2026/2027 (JAMB). NCE year one is the only way in

JAMB’s exemption line is four credits, while the older AKSCOE requirement reported online is five, including English and Mathematics. Until the college publishes its 2026/2027 rule, apply with five credits that include English Language, Mathematics and both subjects of your pairing, so that neither rule can be used against you.

The Economics pairings on JAMB’s AKSCOE list

AKSCOE has seven Economics pairings, including two computing ones. Computer Education/Economics and Computer Science/Economics are listed separately, so pick the exact name the college is admitting into.

PairingCredits I would have besides English
Economics/EnglishEconomics and Literature in English
Economics/FrenchEconomics, plus French if you took it
Economics/MathematicsEconomics and Mathematics (a strong grade)
Economics/Political ScienceEconomics and Government
Economics/Social StudiesEconomics and Civic Education or Government
Computer Education/EconomicsEconomics, Mathematics and Computer Studies if you have it
Computer Science/EconomicsEconomics, Mathematics and Physics or Computer Studies

The two computing pairs are a good fit if you want to teach in schools that need someone for both Economics and Computer Studies. Economics/Mathematics is the strongest pair for senior secondary teaching.

How AKSCOE screening and admission work for Economics Education

AKSCOE has not published a 2026/2027 screening notice that I could find, and its website’s news section had no admission notice when I checked. For 2022/2023 the college ran a screening exercise that opened on 23 August 2022 for NCE and degree applicants. An admissions site lists the documents it says AKSCOE screening asks for: passport photographs, O’level results, files, the JAMB result slip and an LGA certificate. That list is not on a college notice I could read, so treat it as a guide and confirm the portal, fee and documents at the college before paying anybody.

JAMB’s part is fixed. The college’s admission officer proposes candidates on CAPS, the Provost recommends them, and JAMB checks each candidate’s O’level against the exam body’s record with the verification code. Only then does an offer appear on CAPS. If you also registered for the UTME and a college recommends you for NCE, JAMB suspends your UTME process.

Worked example for an Economics Education applicant (illustrative)

AKSCOE has not published an aggregate formula or ranking method. The people below are made up; the example only shows how to test a result against the credit rules and JAMB’s steps.

Akaninyene has one WAEC sitting: English Language C6, Mathematics B3, Economics B2, Government C5, Commerce C4, Computer Studies C6, Biology D7. He wants Computer Education/Economics.

  1. Credit count: English, Mathematics, Economics, Government, Commerce and Computer Studies are credits, six in all.
  2. English and Mathematics check: both credits, covering the older AKSCOE rule.
  3. Pairing check: Economics B2, Mathematics B3 and Computer Studies C6 support Computer Education/Economics.
  4. Process: one-sitting verification code (₦1,500), NCE registration with AKSCOE first (₦3,500 plus ₦700), then CAPS.

Compare Imaobong, who has Economics C4, English C5, Government C6 and CRS C6 but E8 in Mathematics. She meets JAMB’s four-credit line, but misses the English and Mathematics rule reported for AKSCOE and every Mathematics-linked pair. A Mathematics resit is the fix.

Your chances of admission into Economics Education at AKSCOE

AKSCOE does not publish intake numbers. Economics pairings are popular because they lead to both teaching and business jobs. A Mathematics credit separates strong applicants from the rest.

  • Put AKSCOE first: JAMB routes each NCE registration to the first-choice college. If AKSCOE was not your first choice, change it on JAMB before the college starts proposing candidates.
  • Pick a pairing the college runs: a combination the college has not listed cannot be offered to you.
  • Get the verification code right: CAPS compares it with the exam body’s record, and a mismatch stalls the process.
  • Check CAPS every week: JAMB set 31 December 2026 as the deadline for 2026/2027 college of education admissions, and an offer is not yours until you accept it.

How to apply for Economics Education at AKSCOE, step by step

  1. Get your JAMB profile code: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN.
  2. Buy your verification code: from WAEC, NECO, NABTEB or NBAIS, for one or two sittings. Copy your exam numbers and grades exactly as printed.
  3. Register for NCE at an IPRC or JAMB centre: log in with your profile code, choose NCE registration, pay ₦3,500 plus ₦700, and pick Akwa Ibom State College of Education, Afaha Nsit as first choice with the Economics Education pairing you want (for example Economics/English).
  4. Enter your O’level: type in your results and the verification code at the centre. CAPS will check these exact results, so upload them before the college starts proposing candidates.
  5. Already registered for the UTME? If a college of education was your first choice, JAMB moves your record to NCE and you pay ₦700 only. If your first choice was another school, change it to AKSCOE through JAMB.
  6. Complete the college’s own form if it asks for one: admissions sites name a screening portal and a bank account for AKSCOE, but I could not confirm either on a college document. Get the official link and fee from akscoe.edu.ng or the admissions office at Afaha Nsit, and use the same names and results as on your JAMB profile.
  7. Accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, open Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS, accept and print your JAMB admission letter. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status.
  8. Pay acceptance and register: AKSCOE has not published its acceptance or school fees online. Get the amounts in writing and pay only through the channel the college names.

Warning

Any admission done outside JAMB CAPS is illegal, the Federal Government said in May 2026. If someone offers you an AKSCOE place that does not show on CAPS, or asks for money to “process” one, do not pay.

Registered for another school? Read JAMB change of institution. For dates, see when JAMB 2027 registration starts; you still register even if you will not write the exam.

Studying NCE Economics Education at AKSCOE

Economics Education trains you to teach Economics in secondary schools and Social Studies or your partner subject at junior level. The college has not published a course outline online, so this is what NCE Economics normally covers under the NCCE minimum standards.

What you study

  • Principles of micro and macroeconomics
  • The Nigerian economy: agriculture, oil, trade and public finance
  • Money, banking and international trade
  • Basic statistics for economics
  • Methods of teaching Economics, education courses and teaching practice

Duration, approval and the degree question

The NCE is normally a three-year programme. At its matriculation on 11 November 2020, the college said an NCCE and NUC visit had given it full institutional accreditation and full accreditation in 23 academic programmes, with some others partial; it did not name them on the page I read. Ask the college for the current status of your course before you pay acceptance.

AKSCOE has run degree programmes in affiliation with the University of Uyo; its 2020 matriculation admitted 1,032 NCE and 450 degree students. JAMB’s June 2026 guide ended new 100 level and 200 level degree admissions into colleges of education, affiliated degrees included, so from 2026/2027 the college admits for the NCE. Plan your degree at a university after the NCE.

Careers

  • Teaching: Economics and your partner subject in secondary schools
  • Related work: cooperatives, microfinance and small business support roles
  • Teacher registration: register with TRCN after your NCE.

For a degree after your NCE, see our University of Uyo Economics Education cut-off mark.

Mistakes that cost Economics Education applicants an AKSCOE place

  • No Mathematics credit: it rules out Economics/Mathematics and both computing pairs.
  • Mixing up Computer Education/Economics and Computer Science/Economics: they are separate entries.
  • Waiting for a UTME score: NCE applicants with four credits do not need one.
  • Following an old screening advert: several admissions sites recycle AKSCOE text from earlier years; check the date and source.
  • Accepting on CAPS and stopping there: acceptance fee payment and registration at the college are separate steps.

AKSCOE cut off mark for Economics Education: frequently asked questions

Do I need JAMB to study Economics Education at AKSCOE? Yes. You register with JAMB and your offer must appear on CAPS, but under the 2026 rules you do not sit the UTME if you have at least four O’level credit passes.

What is the cut off mark for Economics Education in Akwa Ibom State College of Education? AKSCOE has not published one. Its 2022/2023 notice used 100 for NCE screening, JAMB’s national minimum was 100 in 2025/2026, and from 2026/2027 NCE applicants with four credits were exempted from the UTME.

Is Mathematics compulsory for Economics Education at AKSCOE? The older AKSCOE requirement reported online names English and Mathematics for all applicants, and Economics uses Mathematics heavily. I would treat it as compulsory.

Which Economics combinations does AKSCOE offer? JAMB’s list has Economics with English, French, Mathematics, Political Science and Social Studies, plus Computer Education/Economics and Computer Science/Economics.

The college’s listing comes from the NCCE list of colleges of education (entry 13, state, Akwa Ibom, marked open). Its founding date, schools, University of Uyo affiliation and the 2020 matriculation figures and accreditation statement are from the college website akscoe.edu.ng, with background from Wikipedia. The 2022/2023 NCE mark of 100 and the screening start date are from Myschool News (24 August 2022). The undated 120 figure and the document list are from o3schools and are unverified. The UTME exemption, the CAPS rule and the warning on admissions outside CAPS are from the News Agency of Nigeria and TheNigeriaLawyer (both 11 May 2026); the 31 December 2026 deadline is from NAN the same day; the 2027 start date is from Nairametrics. Fees, IPRC registration, CAPS proposal, the Awaiting Results rule and the end of degree admissions into colleges of education are from JAMB’s 2026 NCE and ND registration guide, and the opening of registration is from Nairametrics (23 July 2026). The 2025/2026 minimum of 100 is from Nairametrics (8 July 2025). UTME subjects are JAMB’s usual combination and the pairing credits are my advice. Checked on 3 November 2026. This page will be updated when the college or JAMB publishes the 2027/2028 position.
