Spiritan University Chemistry Cut-Off Mark 2027/2028 and Admission Requirements

Spiritan University, Nneochi asks Chemistry candidates for at least the national cut-off of 150. See the UTME combination, the five O’level credits, Direct Entry, screening, CAPS steps and accreditation status.

The Spiritan University Chemistry cut off mark 2027 candidates should plan with is 150 in the UTME. Spiritan University, Nneochi (SUN) does not publish a separate figure for Chemistry; its admissions page asks for at least the national cut-off, and JAMB’s minimum for universities is 150 for 2026/2027. SUN’s own figure for 2024/2025 was 140.

2027/2028 update: SUN cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.

Chemistry is one of the quieter science courses at SUN, so the score is rarely the problem. The O’level line is where candidates fall short, because JAMB wants credits in all five of English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology. Below are the official figures, a safe target score (my advice), the subject rules, Direct Entry, screening, the CAPS steps, accreditation and careers.

Spiritan University, Nneochi (SUN) is a private Catholic university owned by the Congregation of the Holy Spirit (the Spiritans). Its campus is on the Ajali-Ihube-Lomara Road at Nneato-Isuochi in Umunneochi Local Government Area of Abia State, and it was licensed on 6 December 2017. Its admissions page now carries the headline “2026/2027 Admission in Progress”.

SUN’s figure has followed the national floor, 140 in 2024/2025 and then the national 150. The admissions page still mentions the 2025/2026 UTME in one line under its 2026/2027 headline, which looks like carried-over wording; the 2026/2027 minimum is 150. SUN is absent from News Central’s list of institution cut-offs declared at JAMB’s 2026 policy meeting.

Safe target score for Chemistry at SUN (my advice)

These bands are my judgement, not SUN policy. Pure Chemistry has fewer applicants than Biochemistry or Microbiology at most private universities, and SUN has published no applicant numbers.

Your UTME scoreMy read for SUN Chemistry
Below 150Not eligible for any SUN degree course this cycle
150 to 159Eligible; your five science credits matter most
160 to 179Good chance
180 and aboveStrong

For the 2027 UTME I would aim for 160 or more, with the full set of five credits.

Register Use of English, Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics. That set suits the physical and analytical side of the course and also fits SUN’s Physics programme. Chemistry, Physics and Biology is allowed too, and keeps Biochemistry open as a fallback; if you lean that way, revise with the JAMB Chemistry syllabus and JAMB Biology syllabus.

The O’level list is fixed at five: English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology, all at credit. Candidates who sat WAEC in a technical or commercial class often lack Biology. SUN accepts not more than two sittings, so you can add the missing credit in a second sitting.

Direct Entry into Chemistry at SUN

JAMB’s brochure accepts two A-level passes in Chemistry and one of Physics, Mathematics or Biology, or an ND or NCE with good grades plus the relevant O’level subjects. An ND in Science Laboratory Technology (Chemistry option) or Chemical Engineering Technology is the usual diploma route at other universities. SUN’s admissions page does not mention Direct Entry, so get the admissions office’s answer in writing first.

How Spiritan University admits Chemistry candidates

SUN’s admissions page tells candidates to make Spiritan University their choice on the JAMB form, and it adds that candidates who did not do so can still apply. You apply either through the online form linked from that page or with a paper form. The page lists 13 places where paper forms are available, including the campus, several Catholic parishes, and Spiritan institutions in Enugu, Anambra, Imo, Rivers, Abuja, Lagos, Edo and Delta.

The page does not describe a post-UTME test, a screening date or a form price, and none of the SUN pages I checked on 29 October 2026 gives an aggregate formula. A 2022 blog said SUN screened candidates after the UTME. So treat a short test or an interview as possible, and call the admissions lines before you travel.

If SUN was not on your JAMB registration, your offer still has to come through CAPS, so you will need a JAMB change of institution to Spiritan University before admission closes. For the 2026/2027 cycle, JAMB set 30 November 2026 as the admission deadline for private universities such as SUN.

Documents to have ready

SUN’s 2021/2022 notice, reprinted by Myschool, asked screening candidates for these. Bring them unless the current notice says otherwise:

  • Your original JAMB result slip with your photograph
  • Proof of your JAMB subject combination for Chemistry
  • Your O’level result (WAEC, NECO or NABTEB), with the scratch card or online printout if you have it
  • Your printout of the change of institution, if SUN was not your original choice

Worked example (illustrative only)

SUN publishes no aggregate formula. The example checks each candidate against the rules and my target; the 50:50 method used for the test case (UTME divided by 8, plus half the test percentage) is my illustration.

  1. Somto: UTME 162 in English, Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics, with credits in all five required subjects across two sittings. He is eligible and above my target.
  2. Precious: UTME 175 in English, Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics, but no Biology on her WAEC result. She needs a Biology credit in a second sitting before SUN can admit her into Chemistry.
  3. Ebuka: UTME 150. If a test is set and he scores 62%, his illustrative aggregate is 150 divided by 8 (18.75) plus 31, which is 49.75.

Precious has the best score of the three, and she is the only one SUN cannot admit this cycle. Check your result sheet against the brochure line before you register.

How to apply for Chemistry at Spiritan University, step by step

  1. Get your JAMB profile code: text NIN, a space, then your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone number linked to your NIN.
  2. Register for the UTME: choose Spiritan University and “Chemistry”, with Use of English, Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics. If you already registered elsewhere, do a JAMB change of institution to SUN.
  3. Upload your O’level to CAPS: go to a JAMB office or accredited CBT centre with your WAEC, NECO or NABTEB details. SUN cannot offer you admission until your result is on CAPS.
  4. Apply to SUN: fill the online form linked on the SUN admissions page, or collect a paper form on campus or at one of the listed parishes and Spiritan institutions.
  5. Confirm screening: call the admissions lines on the SUN website (for example 0703 986 5805 or 0803 667 3144) and ask whether Chemistry candidates write a test or attend an interview, and when.
  6. Accept on CAPS: log in to efacility.jamb.gov.ng, choose Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS. In 2026 JAMB gave candidates four weeks to accept an offer. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status.
  7. Pay acceptance and clear: SUN has not published its current acceptance fee. A 2022 blog put it at N20,000, non-refundable, but treat that as old. Pay only through channels the university gives you in writing, then bring your originals for clearance.

Warning

JAMB treats any admission that does not pass through CAPS as illegal. Ignore anyone who offers a guaranteed place at SUN for a fee, pay nothing until you see the offer on your CAPS page, and get payment details only from the university’s official website or admissions office.

Studying Chemistry at Spiritan University

Chemistry studies what matter is made of and how substances react, from the atoms in a drug molecule to the processes in a refinery. SUN offers it as a B.Sc. in the Faculty of Natural and Applied Sciences. A B.Sc. normally takes four years, or three through Direct Entry; SUN’s pages do not state a separate duration.

Is Chemistry at SUN accredited?

Chemistry is not confirmed as accredited. It was not one of the ten programmes the NUC visited at SUN from 19 to 29 January 2022 (Accounting, Banking and Finance, Business Administration, Economics, Political Science, English, Biochemistry, Computer Science, Microbiology and Physics), and I found no later NUC report that names SUN and Chemistry.

That is common for a young university: the NUC usually visits a programme when its first set of students is near final year, so a later course can run for some years before its first visit. It still matters for your certificate and for NYSC mobilisation. Before you accept an offer, ask the department when the NUC last visited and what result it gave, and ask to see the letter.

What you will study

SUN has not published its Chemistry outline. Nigerian B.Sc. Chemistry programmes usually include:

  • Physical chemistry: thermodynamics, kinetics and quantum chemistry
  • Organic chemistry and natural products
  • Inorganic and coordination chemistry
  • Analytical and instrumental chemistry
  • Industrial and environmental chemistry, laboratory practice and a final-year project

Careers

Chemistry graduates work in quality control and production in oil and gas, paints, plastics, cosmetics, food and pharmaceutical companies, in water treatment, in environmental monitoring and in teaching (after a postgraduate diploma in education). Practising chemists in Nigeria register with the Institute of Chartered Chemists of Nigeria (ICCON); ask the department how its graduates go about registration.

Mistakes Chemistry applicants make

  • Missing a Biology credit: JAMB’s O’level line for Chemistry names it.
  • Registering only one of Physics, Biology and Mathematics alongside Chemistry: you need two of them.
  • Using three sittings: SUN accepts not more than two.
  • Assuming the course is accredited because SUN advertises it: ask for the NUC letter.
  • Skipping the change of institution after buying a SUN form.
