The Maduka University Mass Communication cut-off mark is 150 in the UTME. That is the single minimum Maduka University, Ekwegbe, set for all its undergraduate courses for 2026/2027, and it matches JAMB’s national minimum for universities. Maduka has not published a separate, higher departmental cut-off for Mass Communication.
2027/2028 update: Maduka University cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.
Mass Communication is one of the seven Maduka programmes that earned full NUC accreditation in the October to December 2025 exercise, valid until 2030, according to the university’s July 2026 press release. Below are the official figures, a safe target score (my advice), the UTME subjects and O’level rules from JAMB’s brochure, how Maduka screens applicants, fees, and what the degree leads to.
Maduka University Mass Communication cut-off mark 2027 at a glance
| Item | Position | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Maduka minimum UTME score (all courses) | 150 | Maduka 2026/2027 notice (Myschool reprint, 15 May 2026) |
| JAMB minimum for universities | 150 | Official (JAMB, 11 May 2026) |
| Mass Communication departmental cut-off | Not published | No figure in any source |
| JAMB course name | Mass Communication | Third-party copy of Maduka’s JAMB list |
| UTME subjects | Use of English + any three Arts or Social Science subjects | JAMB brochure (Myschool reprint) |
| Post-UTME test | None described | Online application only, per reports |
| NUC accreditation | Full, valid until 2030 | Maduka press release (29 July 2026) |
| 2026/2027 fee | ₦800,000 (tuition and accommodation) | Reported (The Vent Republic) |
Is Mass Communication on Maduka’s JAMB list?
I checked the course against two lists. A third-party copy of Maduka’s JAMB course list on universitycourses.ng (last updated 1 March 2026) shows 18 courses, and it includes Mass Communication. Myschool’s reprint of the JAMB list for Maduka would not open for me, so confirm the course under Maduka on your JAMB e-Facility profile before you register. Maduka’s own fee list for 2026/2027 shows it as B.Sc. Mass Communication under Business and Social Sciences, and Teezab’s July 2026 course list places it in the College of Management and Social Sciences. The unit name differs between reports, but the course name is the same everywhere: Mass Communication.
Maduka Mass Communication cut-off history
| Session | Figure | What it is | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2026/2027 | 150 | Maduka University minimum UTME score for all undergraduate courses | Maduka admission notice, reprinted by Myschool (15 May 2026) |
| 2026/2027 | 150 | JAMB national minimum for universities | Official (JAMB policy meeting, 11 May 2026) |
| 2025/2026 | 150 | Maduka minimum UTME score | Reported by AndroidPols (16 November 2025) |
| 2024/2025 to 2026/2027 | Not published | Separate departmental cut-off for Mass Communication | No figure in any notice or report I found |
Maduka has kept a flat 150 for every course since its second admission cycle. That fits a young private university that is still building numbers. It also means the cut-off itself tells you little about competition. Mass Communication is one of the most chosen arts and social science courses in Enugu, and the department admits from whoever applies with 150 or more.
Safe target score for Mass Communication at Maduka (my advice)
This is my judgement as an admissions adviser, not a Maduka rule. Private universities with a single 150 minimum rarely publish who got in, but candidates who score well clear of the minimum are the ones who get early offers and keep the option of a public university.
| Your UTME score | My read for Maduka Mass Communication |
|---|---|
| Below 150 | Not eligible for any Maduka degree course this year; consider IJMB or rewriting the UTME |
| 150 to 169 | Eligible; your O’level grades and an early application matter most |
| 170 to 199 | A comfortable position for a private university course with a 150 floor |
| 200 and above | Strong; you could also compete at state universities in Enugu |
For the 2027 UTME I would aim for at least 180, with credits in English Language, Literature in English and Mathematics. That score also keeps UNN Mass Communication in view if you want to compare offers.
UTME subject combination and O’level for Maduka Mass Communication
| Requirement | Mass Communication |
|---|---|
| UTME subjects | Use of English plus any three Arts or Social Science subjects |
| O’level (JAMB general rule) | Five credits including English Language and four other Arts or Social Science subjects |
| O’level (Maduka, as reported) | Five credits including English Language and Mathematics |
| Direct Entry (JAMB general rule) | Two A Level passes in Arts or Social Science subjects |
| Maduka remark in the brochure | None found |
JAMB’s general line for Mass Communication is broad: any three Arts or Social Science subjects. Several universities add Literature in English as compulsory in their own remarks, but Maduka has no remark on the Mass Communication page of the brochure. A sensible combination is Use of English, Literature in English, Government and Economics or CRS. It satisfies JAMB’s rule and also covers the stricter remarks other schools use, which helps if you later change institution.
Mathematics is the subject to watch at O’level. JAMB’s general rule for Mass Communication does not name it, but the reports of Maduka’s admission requirements say five credits including English and Mathematics. Treat a Mathematics credit as required.
Direct Entry
Maduka accepts Direct Entry and inter-university transfer candidates, according to its 2026/2027 notice. JAMB’s general DE rule for Mass Communication is two A Level passes in Arts or Social Science subjects. Teezab’s summary of Maduka’s requirements lists ND, HND, IJMB, JUPEB and A Level as accepted types of qualification, alongside the O’level conditions. Maduka has not published course-specific DE grades, so ask the admissions office what grade of ND in Mass Communication it accepts before you buy a DE form.
How Maduka screens Mass Communication applicants
Maduka has not published a Post-UTME test, an aggregate formula or screening dates for Mass Communication, and none of the reports of its 2025/2026 and 2026/2027 admissions describes a written test. What the reports describe is an online application: you create a profile on the admissions portal, enter your UTME and O’level details, choose a programme, pay the ₦5,000 form fee and print your slip. The university then makes its decision and sends the offer through JAMB CAPS.
That means the things that decide your chances are the ones on your file: your UTME score, your O’level grades in the right subjects, and a clean CAPS profile with Maduka as your institution. If the university invites you for an interview or a test, the invitation will come from Maduka itself through the portal or its admission email.
Worked example
Maduka has not published an aggregate formula, so this example measures distance from the 150 minimum and from my safe target. It is an illustration, not a Maduka calculation.
- Chidinma scored 192: 192 minus 150 = 42 marks above the minimum, and 12 above my 180 target. With credits in English, Literature, Mathematics, Government and Economics in one sitting, she is a strong applicant.
- Emeka scored 158: 158 minus 150 = 8. He is eligible, so he should apply early, make sure his O’level is on CAPS, and not leave the form until the last weeks of the cycle.
- Ifeoma scored 146: 146 is 4 short of 150. No private university can admit her for a 2026/2027 degree course with that score. Her options are IJMB, which Maduka runs, or a stronger UTME in 2027.
Maduka Mass Communication school fees
| Item | Amount | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Tuition and accommodation, Mass Communication, 2026/2027 | ₦800,000 a session | The Vent Republic (14 May 2026) |
| Mass Communication, 2025/2026 (for comparison) | ₦650,000 | AndroidPols (16 November 2025) |
| Application form | ₦5,000 | The Vent Republic; AbsTechConnect (24 May 2026) |
| Acceptance fee | ₦50,000, non-refundable | The Vent Republic; AndroidPols |
| Feeding | Pay as you eat, not in the fee | The Vent Republic; AndroidPols |
| Payment plan | One payment, or 60% then 40% | The Vent Republic |
The Myschool reprint of the notice says the listed fees cover tuition and accommodation for a full session with no hidden charges. Fees rose from ₦650,000 to ₦800,000 between 2025/2026 and 2026/2027 for Business and Social Sciences courses. None of these figures came from a page I could open on Maduka’s own website, so confirm the current amount on the portal before paying.
How to apply for Mass Communication at Maduka University
- Get your JAMB profile code: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN, then register at an accredited CBT centre.
- Register the right course: choose Mass Communication with Use of English and three Arts or Social Science subjects (Literature, Government and Economics is a safe set), and make Maduka University your institution. If you chose another school, do a JAMB change of institution before you apply on Maduka’s portal.
- Upload your O’level to CAPS: at a JAMB office or accredited centre, have your WAEC, NECO or NABTEB result uploaded so the university can see it. If you are using two sittings, upload both.
- Apply on Maduka’s portal: the university’s July 2026 press release gives the admissions portal as admissions.madukauniversity.edu.ng. Create a profile, enter your UTME and O’level details, choose the course, pay ₦5,000 and print the slip.
- Watch CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, open Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS. Accept the offer there. An admission that does not appear on CAPS is not a valid admission.
- Pay acceptance and register: the reported acceptance fee is ₦50,000 and it is not refunded. Pay only through the portal or accounts the university gives you in writing, then print your JAMB admission letter for clearance.
JAMB set 30 November 2026 as the 2026/2027 admission deadline for private universities, according to the News Agency of Nigeria report of the 11 May 2026 policy meeting. Public universities had until 31 October 2026. If you are still waiting on a 2026/2027 Maduka offer, check CAPS before the end of November; our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status.
Warning
Maduka’s process runs through its portal and JAMB CAPS. Do not pay anyone who offers a Mass Communication “slot”, an admission list or help with the form outside the portal, and check that any account you pay into is one the university gave you in writing.
Studying Mass Communication at Maduka University
Maduka University is a private university at Ekwegbe, on the Enugu to Nsukka road in Igbo-Etiti Local Government Area of Enugu State. Its founder is Dr Samuel Maduka Onyishi, who also founded the Peace Mass Transit bus company. The university got its NUC licence in 2023 and started its first session in November 2023 with 611 students, according to Nairametrics and TheCable. It also runs IJMB, reported at ₦800,000 for two semesters in 2026/2027.
Mass Communication is a B.Sc. degree in the business and social sciences unit. Nigerian Mass Communication degrees normally run for four years for UTME entrants; Maduka has not published its own duration, so take four years as the usual length.
Accreditation
Maduka’s press release of 29 July 2026 says the NUC assessed seven programmes between October and December 2025 and gave all seven full accreditation, with scores between 84.8% and 97.0%, valid until 2030. Mass Communication is on that list, together with Accounting, Computer Science, Cyber Security, Software Engineering, Economics and International Relations. The release does not give each programme’s score. I could not find NUC’s own report page for the programme, and NUC’s published results PDF could not be read past the C names, so the press release is the source here.
What you study
- Early years: introduction to mass communication, writing for the media, history of the Nigerian press, communication theory and general studies courses.
- Middle years: news reporting and editing, broadcasting, public relations, advertising, photojournalism and media law and ethics.
- Final year: research methods, a project, and options that point you toward print, broadcast, digital media, PR or advertising.
- Industrial attachment: most programmes place students with a newspaper, broadcast station or agency for a period of practical work.
The NUC has also introduced separate communication degrees such as Journalism and Media Studies, Public Relations and Advertising, but Maduka lists and was accredited for Mass Communication as a single degree.
Careers
Graduates go into reporting and editing, broadcast production and presenting, public relations and corporate communication, advertising, digital content and social media management, and media research. Many also take communication roles in banks, NGOs and government agencies.

Mistakes that cost Mass Communication applicants
- No Mathematics credit: JAMB’s general rule does not need it, but Maduka’s reported requirement does.
- A science-heavy UTME combination: Physics, Chemistry and Biology do not meet the Arts or Social Science rule.
- O’level not on CAPS: the university cannot recommend you without it.
- Accepting on CAPS and stopping there: you still pay acceptance and complete clearance with the university.
- Waiting too long: the 2026/2027 private-university deadline was 30 November 2026.
