Clifford University History and Diplomatic Studies Cut-Off Mark 2027/2028 and Admission Requirements

Clifford University’s History and Diplomatic Studies cut-off is the 150 it states for all courses. See the safe target score, UTME subjects, the Geography point in JAMB’s O’level rule, Direct Entry and JUPEB, screening, fees and CAPS steps.

The Clifford University History and Diplomatic Studies cut-off mark is 150 in the UTME. Clifford University, Owerrinta states 150 as its general cut-off on its 2026/2027 admission notice, matching JAMB’s national minimum for universities, and it has not published a separate figure for this B.A. So 150 is the official floor: reach it, choose Clifford, hold credits in English and History or Government among five subjects, and you can apply.

2027/2028 update: Clifford University cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.

This course pairs Nigerian and world history with diplomacy and foreign policy, and it sits in Clifford’s Faculty of Humanities. Below are the official figures, a safe target score (labelled as my advice), the UTME subjects, an O’level point where JAMB and Clifford differ, Direct Entry and JUPEB routes, screening, the 2026/2027 fees, the CAPS steps and the careers it leads to.

This page is about Clifford University, the private Seventh-day Adventist university at Ihie, near Owerrinta, in Abia State. Its admission notice for 2026/2027 says plainly that the JAMB cut-off is 150 and that candidates come in through UTME, Direct Entry or transfer. It gives no separate figure for History and Diplomatic Studies, so 150 is the number every UTME applicant for this course has to reach.

One admissions blog wrote in October 2025 that Clifford invites candidates with 130 and above who did not pick it as first choice. That post appeared before the 2026 UTME, cites no university notice, and sits below the 150 that Clifford itself now states. Do not plan around 130. News Central also published the full list of cut-offs that institutions declared at JAMB’s 2026 policy meeting, and Clifford is not on it, so there is no separate policy-meeting figure to quote.

Safe target score for History and Diplomatic Studies at Clifford (my advice)

History-based degrees rarely fill up fast at private universities, and Clifford’s applicant pool is small compared with Abia State University or UNN. These bands are my reading as an admissions adviser. Clifford has not published them.

Your UTME scoreMy read for Clifford History and Diplomatic Studies
Below 150Not eligible for any Clifford degree course
150 to 159Eligible; a complete O’level and an early application matter most
160 to 184Good chance
185 and aboveStrong

For the 2027 UTME, I would aim for 160 or more. If you are torn between this course and International Relations or Political Science at Clifford, a score in that range keeps all three open.

UTME subject combination and O’level for Clifford History and Diplomatic Studies

RequirementWhat appliesSource
UTME subjects (JAMB)Use of English, History or Government, and any two other Arts or Social Science subjectsJAMB brochure (Myschool reprint)
UTME subjects (Clifford)English Language, History or Government, with options listed as Economics, CRS, Music, Theatre Arts, Geography, Igbo and FrenchClifford requirements page
JAMB’s general O’level ruleFive credits to include English Language, Geography and Government or HistoryJAMB brochure
Clifford’s O’level ruleCredits in at least five subjects including English Language and History or GovernmentClifford requirements page
MathematicsNot named for this course by JAMB or CliffordBoth pages
SittingsNot more than twoClifford requirements page

Clifford’s UTME text for this course is hard to read: it repeats itself and lists a long string of options. The safe reading that satisfies both pages is Use of English, Government or History, plus two from Economics, CRS and Geography. If you take History in school, put it in; if not, Government covers the core subject.

JAMB’s general O’level rule for History and Diplomatic Studies names Geography alongside English and History or Government. Clifford’s own page does not mention Geography, and the JAMB page carries no Clifford remark either way. To be safe, hold a Geography credit. Clifford also does not ask for Mathematics here, unlike its English and CRS degrees, but a Mathematics credit costs you nothing and keeps other courses open, so I would still get one.

Direct Entry into History and Diplomatic Studies at Clifford

Direct Entry candidates join at 200 level. For History and Diplomatic Studies, Clifford’s requirements page accepts the five O’level credits plus one of these:

  • GCE A-level with at least two subjects including History or Government
  • NCE with merit passes in at least two subjects including History or Government
  • OND at upper credit or HND in a relevant discipline
  • A Clifford or other recognised Diploma in History with a merit pass
  • JUPEB, from Clifford or any JUPEB-affiliated institution

JAMB’s general rule is two A-level passes or an NCE at upper credit in History or Government and a related subject. Clifford’s Direct Entry page places these candidates at 200 level and requires a screening test for everyone except JUPEB candidates, so a JUPEB result lets you skip that test.

Clifford Post-UTME screening for History and Diplomatic Studies

Clifford has not published a screening date, fee or test format for History and Diplomatic Studies in any source I could reach. What its own pages do confirm is this: the undergraduate requirements page tells applicants to come in “via Post UTME or Direct Entry”, and the Direct Entry page says every Direct Entry candidate sits a university screening test, with JUPEB candidates the only exception. Online application runs through the portal at soap.clifforduni.edu.ng.

A blog post from October 2025 said the form was free and that candidates would write an aptitude test on a date to be announced. Neither point is on Clifford’s website, so ask the admissions office before you pay anyone for a form.

Worked example (illustrative only)

Clifford publishes no aggregate formula. The example below compares scores with the 150 floor and my target, and, in case a test is set, it uses the 50:50 method common at Nigerian universities (UTME divided by 8, plus half of the screening percentage). This is my illustration only.

  1. Uzoma: UTME 166, credits in English, Government, Geography, Economics and CRK in one sitting. He is 16 above the floor and 6 above my target.
  2. If there is a test: Uzoma scores 62%. 166 divided by 8 is 20.75; half of 62 is 31. His illustrative aggregate is 51.75.
  3. Nneka: UTME 152 (19) and 76% at screening (38). Her aggregate is 57, ahead of Uzoma despite 14 fewer UTME marks.
  4. Tochi: UTME 183, but no credit in History or Government. Both JAMB and Clifford require one of them, so his score cannot help until he fixes it.

Make sure Government or History is a credit, add Geography if you can, and prepare for a general paper on English, current affairs and Nigerian history.

Clifford University History and Diplomatic Studies school fees and acceptance fee

Clifford posts its approved fees by programme on its website. The page is headed “Approved school fees for 2026/2027 academic session”. The programme figures are labelled only “amount”, so treat them as the yearly charge for the course and ask the bursary what they cover, especially hostel and feeding.

ItemAmount (2026/2027)Who pays
Acceptance feeN150,000New students, once
Matriculation feeN50,000100 level only
History and Diplomatic Studies programme amountN819,000Each session
Christian Religious Studies (same faculty)N715,000For comparison

In 2026/2027 terms, a 100-level History and Diplomatic Studies student paying acceptance, matriculation and the programme amount needs N1,019,000 before hostel, feeding, books and personal costs. JUPEB tuition at Clifford was N942,500 for the same session, if you are weighing that route.

Clifford lets you pay the programme amount in full, or 60% for the first semester and 40% for the second. The bank account is printed on the fees page. Copy it from that page yourself rather than from a message someone forwards to you.

How to apply for History and Diplomatic Studies at Clifford, step by step

  1. Get your JAMB profile code: text NIN, a space, then your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone number linked to your NIN.
  2. Register for the UTME: choose History and Diplomatic Studies with Use of English, Government or History, and two other Arts or Social Science subjects, and pick Clifford University. If Clifford was not your choice, do a JAMB change of institution before admission closes.
  3. Upload your O’level to CAPS: at a JAMB office or accredited CBT centre, with your WAEC, NECO or NABTEB details. Clifford cannot offer you admission on CAPS without it.
  4. Apply on Clifford’s portal: go to soap.clifforduni.edu.ng (the “Apply Now” button on clifforduni.edu.ng leads there), create your account, choose History and Diplomatic Studies, fill the form and keep your printout.
  5. Confirm screening: call the admissions lines on Clifford’s homepage (08036970755 or 07034871571) and ask when and how History and Diplomatic Studies candidates will be screened.
  6. Accept on CAPS: on efacility.jamb.gov.ng, choose Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS. In 2026 JAMB gave candidates four weeks to accept an offer. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status.
  7. Pay acceptance and fees, then clear: the 2026/2027 acceptance fee was N150,000 and the matriculation fee N50,000. Pay through the official account, then bring your original documents for clearance.

Warning

Clifford University has publicly warned that people pose as its staff. Pay only into the account on Clifford’s official fees page, ignore anyone selling a guaranteed place, and remember that a real offer always shows on JAMB CAPS.

Studying History and Diplomatic Studies at Clifford University

Clifford University is a private Seventh-day Adventist university at Ihie, near Owerrinta in Abia State. History and Diplomatic Studies is a four-year B.A. (Hons.) in the Faculty of Humanities, or three years through Direct Entry at 200 level.

Is Clifford History and Diplomatic Studies accredited?

NUC’s accreditation report shows Full accreditation, with a score of 89.91%, for a Clifford programme it names History and International Studies, after a panel visit from 24 to 26 November 2024, and the Commission approved the panel’s recommendation. That is not the same name as History and Diplomatic Studies, the name this page uses from JAMB’s brochure, and NUC’s report does not say whether the two names refer to the same degree. Confirm the current programme name with Clifford’s admissions office, including the name that will appear on your certificate, before you pay fees. The programme was not among the eight Clifford announced as fully accredited in March 2023; this result came later and is from NUC’s own report.

What you study

  • Nigerian history: pre-colonial states, colonial rule, nationalism and post-independence Nigeria.
  • African and world history: Africa and the wider world, Europe, the Americas and Asia.
  • Diplomacy: diplomatic history, Nigerian foreign policy, international organisations and the law of nations.
  • Economic and social history: trade, labour and social change.
  • Method: historiography, research methods and a final-year project.

Graduates work in the civil service, international organisations and NGOs, journalism, teaching, archives and museums, and in policy research. A career in Nigeria’s foreign service runs through its own recruitment exams. Some graduates go on to law or a master’s in international relations.

Mistakes History and Diplomatic Studies applicants make

  • Treating 150 as admission: it is only the minimum to be considered.
  • No History or Government credit: both JAMB and Clifford require one.
  • Skipping Geography: JAMB’s general O’level rule names it.
  • Using three sittings: Clifford allows not more than two.
  • Leaving O’level off CAPS: without it, Clifford cannot send an offer.
